Power steering constantly goes while driving. there will be a ding and it will just cut out... why doesn't this have an recall on it????? its seriously dangerous. took it to dealer it will cost over 500 to fix. i can barely driving it a block without the power steering going out. it starts 4 mins after driving car... please help and fix!!! this is dangerous.

While driving down the road we had a handful of times where the lights would flicker. we were told we had to replace the headlight/blinker switch as it was faulty due to this vehicle having the "lights- auto on/off" switch located on this. we did, it didn't fix it. we were told loose headlight bulbs. replaced, still happens. only now, we have zero dim lights but only headlights if we turn on highbeams (brights). still, we get the flickering headlights, this doesn't effect the blinker lights, yellow running lights or seem to effect the brake lights. part of the auto lights deal is when it's dark, it will dim the dash lights so they aren't intrusive to your driving, but if it's broad daylight, they will brighten so your able to see them. i'll start the vehicle, and the dash will be completely dim, so dim you can barely see it. after driving a good length of time (at least 30 minutes!) they'll flash between bright and dim, daylight or dark this happens. this also happens when the headlights go completely out. they claim all fuses are fine and wording harness is fine but, obviously it's not. i have been reading some forums in the chevyhhr.net and i am not the only person with this issue. this has caused someone to nearly hit me head on as i was trying to move off the road due to my headlights going out, and they were attempting to pass a vehicle, and had to move to my lane to do so! i have children, and after school activities end when the sun is going down/it's dark out so to travel home, the sun is off the horizon and it's pitch black out. this also seems to cause my battery to drain, and need a jump daily. i was told my battery needed replaced, did that still no fix, told it was my alternator, still isn't fixed. than i was told i must be leaving internal lights on when exiting the car. something is not right with this vehicle and it is very unsafe!

My 2006 chevrolet hhr's display kept flashing "check charge sys" and "battery saver on." a mechanic said to replace the battery. i did before embarking on a 200-mile weekend trip. about 30 miles into the trip, both displays returned. but the hhr performed normally. about 170 miles into my trip, i stopped to eat. my hhr would not crank. a teen offered a jump. car started, but the gear lock kept it in park. with modest pressure, i was able to shift. about 3 miles later on a divided highway, i experienced difficult steering, door locks went up and down, then silence. everything shut down. luckily, traffic was light and from the right lane, i was able to steer my hhr off the highway. had this been at night, in heavy traffic, rain or at a higher speed, i believe my life or others would have been in danger. my car was towed, and this mechanic replaced the alternator. chevrolet's display should have warned "alternator failure." and my gear lock was so flimsy, it failed in preventing me from driving. now, i have a gear shift with no protection from accidental shifting, and my key is stuck in the ignition. i do not wish to be a statistic. please feel free to contact me if further details are needed.

Driving at 70 mph on freeway and suddenly "engine power reduced" warning comes on display and i can't accelerate. the engine cut off. on the freeway. this is not safe (obviously) and i don't see myself buying another chevy again. i have a family and this problem could kill us all. *tr

My car was involved in the ignition recall...took it in had it all fixed. now that same switch has gone faulty again. the car will not turn over. acts just like the starter is going out, it slow to start and gets worse and worse till it will no longer start. i have had the battery replaced and starter(due to that seemed to be the issue. after digging deeper into the diagnostic code i have discovered that switch keeps coming up as an issue.

Turn ignition switch off while car out of gear causing it to roll freely.

I was driving to my family's home on christmas, when my car suddenly began to smell like burnt rubber inside of the car. it was raining on that day. suddenly the cars ac, or h vac did not work anymore. upon googling things of what it could be, i found out that the resistor and blower motor had been burnt do to be allowing water to enter the blower motor panel from the outside of the car. upon looking at my blower motor and resistor i found evident burn marks on them. gm should investigate how rainwater can enter the cars blower motor causing a burning smell in a inhalation of fumes of burning plastic. not to mention my ability not to see out of the window due to the defrost not working. this is a safety concern!!

When local dealer put in the recall ignition switch the blinker switch works off + on and electrical system acting weird plus the switch is not working as it should example you can take key out of ignition switch as the is on + driving! also gm customers services said the installation was a one time deal! i saw that this was a lifetime item to be fixed? so bottom iine car switch didn't have that problems before they installed the recalled switch. so what options do i have since it's their faulty part causing numerous electrical problems didn't have beforehand!

Power steering stopped working multiple times while my 16 yr old was driving. *tr

To whom it may concern, the key got stuck in the ignition in april (with no other problems) drained the battery and was picked up and taken to smicklas chevrolet dealership in okc, and remained there on the lot until we picked up on 8/8/14 was told we needed a new battery they could do for around $200 but it was not payday yet and we asked for a jump when we got there. i feel with it sitting there so long maybe they should have try to charge the battery at the very least. we got a few miles down the expressway and had to pull over so we didn't get in a wreck or cause one due to a ton of smoke coming out the vents and a terrible electrical smell like it was on fire! turned off the a/c and pulled over to check under the hood to make sure there wasn't a fire, not one we could see but it sure smelled like it!! called ray at smicklas right there on the side of the road, only to be told it sounded like the blower motor on the air conditioner and that happens sometimes when cars sit for that long. feeling helpless, we finally get home to check things out and find the passenger floor board full of water, unable to set the time on the radio and some buttons won't work or the cd player and the new remote start will not work. we get it to our mechanic that replaces the battery and told us that the old one was very hot!! and that the blower motor was not the problem, it didn't even have power to it, it was an electrical problem to do with the ignition switch that there was a recall on....i laughed and told him we just had that done! he said that they may have wired something wrong, or the switch was bad. and to the end the day, when stopping for dinner on the way home the key stuck in the new ignition switch and i had to shift from park and drive a couple times to get the key out. what do i need to do to get this resolved??? thank you for your time, *tr

We were on vacation and i was traveling on a road at the posted speed of 30 mph. i was going around a bend and immediately my power steering light came on, there was a chime, it became very difficult to manage the bend i was going around and i hit a light pole damaging my front bumper. at that same time, my mhp and rmp needles began bouncing back and forth and the car was "jerking". i turned the car off. it was still drivable, but within a few seconds the power steering light came back on, the needles bounced and car jerked. i called gm to see if there was a recall on the power steering. they informed me that there were several gm power steering recalls on several years of hhr, cobalt and saturns. they all have very similar power steering mechanisms. however, my year, 2006, was not on that recall. i have researched and found thousands of people with 2006 hhr's complaining of the same issues but not understanding why that year is not included in the recall.
