We have classified the 108 complaints from 2011 Chevrolet Equinox about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Engine has always made a rattling noise which now i believe loose/worn timing chain. last week the equinox was stalling at stop signs. it will start right back up then die again. once it's takes off it runs fine. we took it to the dealer, they said there were 2 codes. 1 read engine misfire other read intake cam valve actuator (something). the dealer cleared the codes (charged me for clearing codes) and then said there was nothing wrong with car and sent me on my way. couple days later it dies 3 times in a row at stop. the check engine light comes on and stays on for one day. next day check engine light goes off and vehicle runs fine. later that day it dies at stop. i call dealer to get another appointment and they say without check engine light on or it dying for them there isn't much they can do. do a quick google search of equinox timing issue and this is a very common issue. of course now it is 3 months out of the 5year powertrain warranty. i have read where there is an extended warranty for this issue. i have a feeling i'm going to be forced to take it to another dealership after they do nothing for it and charge me to clear any codes.
While driving on the freeway it would shut off during low speeds. issue happened 20+ time during one 15 minute drive. i would need to put the car in neutral to start it again, but once i slowed down it would shut off. this also happened when stopped at a light, once i pressed on the accelerator to begin moving, the vehicle would stall out, powering off and requiring me to place in neutral to start again.
After coming to a stop at a light, car completely died. nothing would work. had to be towed back to dealer. was sent to a certified gm service center and the timing chain had broke and caused chaos in my engine. they replaced the chain as well as the head and other numerous parts. they also found that my manifold was cracked and had to be replaced. out quite a bit of money. now just a few months later, driving down the road and my engine is clicking and ticking and sounds like its going to fall out. i check the oil when i get stopped and my car has no oil in it. no warning lights had come on and my oil level monitoring system still said 38%. it had just reached 3000 miles since my last oil change. not a happy customer. tired of dropping money in this vehicle. also now when i get in my air conditioner make a loud noise until i turn it off and back on.
Takata recall i purchased my car in may 2016. i informed the dealer of the issue right away. it still has not been fixed properly. the dealer had a 30 warranty to fix anything wrong. my car doesn't get enough power. it jerks forward around 30mph. does drive past 55mph and most recently doesn't reverse, despite returning it to the dealership 5 times within the past 2 months. the error codes read p0700 and p0776. yesterday the car stopped going in reverse. it can only drive forward.
Takata recall - less than 70000 miles and transmission is slipping and having difficulty changing gears when driving, jerking during changin of gears, worse when a/c is on. can not use cruise control at all. current onstar reports and dealership report from june shows that there were no issues
Purchased my 2011 chevy equinox in march 2014 at 36,000 miles. at this moment i have 63,000 miles. past couple months or so i have had many issues with my vehicle. there was a ticking for a period of time after parking and shutting off the vehicle, a rough/loud running of the engine, inconsistent times of knocking type sound, and a hesistant during accelerating and so rough. when we inquired about these things from the dealer we purchased from we were told that everything was 'normal' and that's what a chevy sounds like. today i was driving up a 30 mph road and could not accelerate over 20 mph going straight up the road. there was a hesistation then it stopped in the middle of the road. i turned the ignition off.waited a few seconds and it started back up. i drove fast home and turned onto my street and it started to slow down and not accelerate. it was still running but didnt go anywhere. i turned it off again for a few minutes. it started up i drove it into my driveway. the engine light came on and it shutoff. this appears to be a consistent problem in this type of vehicle from what i have now found and something that should not happen with only 63,000 miles on it. i do not drive long distance. work, school and home. i am extremely frustrated with the entire situation. i have always bought chevy and this is the first major issue. they need a recall on this. can someone help. i do not have a warranty anymore. im a single mom of 2 and can not afford this. the crazy thing is. i received a notice in the mail about this issue a few months back. i chuckled and said not my car and threw it away now look at me.
Timing chain failure.
Oil consumption, rough idle, bad ticking engine sounds like a diesel truck, stalled.
Sudden internal failure of transmission with around 48,000 miles on vehicle. vehicle was in motion, started making high-pitched humming noise, wouldn't accelerate, and then stopped moving/driving but stayed turned on.
The car stopped shifting gears and stopped moving going down the street. upon stopping the car in a safe location, the car would not go in reverse. had i been in busy traffic or merging onto an expressway, this could have been very serious.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle began to decelerate independently. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the 35r clutch wave plate had failed causing the transmission to fail and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 121,000. updated 05/03/16*lj *js
I was driving to get my 3 small kids from after school and my 2011 chevy equinox started losing power. could not go over 35 mph.check engine light turned on, then the stabilitrak light followed by reduce engine and it had vibration. the car was in motion. i got to the stop sign and it vibrated. i pulled over and was scared to cut it off. then after about 2 mins i was able to pull of slowly by the car stalled. and i still couldn't go over 35mph. slowly made it to my kids school and i could here clunky noises. i cut off, after 5 mins i was able to crank, the only light that was on was the check engine light and its stil on. i was able to drive regular but still had a little vibration. i do not have warranty and im a single mother of 3 small kids from age 18months - 9years old. i dont know what to do. i cant afford any repairs. i just got this vehicle january 30, 2015
In jan 5 2016 my 2011 chevy equinox mileage 56747 would just stall without warning and i had no control of steering. driving on the hwy it just killed and started but didn't want to accelerate again then stalled again couldn't steer. got it to ray chevrolet it was my camshaft position actuator solenoid valve in sept.2016 mileage 80584 i had it towed again and it was the camshaft position actuator solenoid valves and it burnt my electronic control unit aka computer which cost me $800.00. skipping forward but not without problems there are many. aug. 2019, i am having to change camshaft position actuator solenoid valves again do to stalling on the road while i'm driving not being able to steer for the third time. it's so dangerous to drive this car without warning it will kill on you for a number of reasons. then i went change my oil like clock work and was told i have a valve cover gasket leak to go with the solenoid problem. it's so dangerous to drive due to the fact it will stall at anytime. in aug. 2019 my pressure sensor for my right tire went out. now i can't get it to reset and mechanic tried and said sensor needs to be changed really. i can't tell if i have a low tire it just shows blank line on all tires. now my actuator bend door broke on defrost and it's hot in louisiana. almost impossible to get to. this car needs a recall really bad. there is never a time where the car just ran good with no trouble. things that broke on this car are listed below. air control iac value, actuator bend door, valve cover gasket, computer, pressure sensor, cv joints, intake & exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoid <>three times
Chevrolet equinox 2011 uses excessive amounts of oil. i have to add oil between oil changes. i keep extra oil on hand always. the car makes rattling noise at start up and just doesn't sound good when running. it runs sluggishly. i wasn't aware of the problem. i only had to add oil between changes to my previous car when it was leaking on the ground. i went to have oil changed and there was none on the dipstick. i had no idea. when i add oil the rattling seems to go away for a while. i can't afford to buy another car or replace the motor if the oil consumption causes the need for that.
This is a fwd model with 2.4l engine. the transmission 3-5-r plate failed at 67,000 miles and the transmission was ruined. when it failed it caused acceleration and speed problems while the vehicle was on a major highway but there was no check engine light initially. the car limped a few miles home stalling out completely once a block from home, it would not go into reverse and had to be towed to the dealer for diagnosis and repairs. i was the original owner of the vehicle it was purchased 06/11/2011. the vehicle also had oil consumption issues and rough idle at this time. the vehicle had its cam shaft actuators replaced in august 2011 after the engine made very loud noises with about 2000 miles on the car. i traded the car in 3 days after the dealership replaced the transmission because i did not trust the car.
Transmission shifting issues causing car to jerk and not accelerate. has been an on going issues for the last 13 month brought in to be looked at multiple time. dealer is stating that's how the transmission were made.
I purchased my 2011 chevy equinox in march 2014 at 40,000 miles. in that time i have only added 16,000. in the last 6 months or so i have had many issues with my vehicle. there was a ticking for a period of time after parking and shutting off the vehicle, a rough/loud running of the engine, inconsistent times of a 'whirring' type sound, and a bucking of the vehicle during accelerating and decelerating so rough that i thought i had been hit from behind a few times. when we inquired about these things from the dealer we purchased from we were told that everything was 'normal' and that's what a chevy sounds like. in august the compressor for the air conditioner went and we thought perhaps that was causing most of the issues and spent quite a lot of money to fix that. it did seem to run a little better for a few weeks. today i was driving down a 30 mph road and could not accelerate over 20 mph going straight down the road. there was a grinding noise coming from the engine and the check engine light came on. i went to the closest garage as i would not have been able to drive the vehicle to the other end of the next town from where i was. i barely made it to the garage. they hooked it up to a scan and determined that the transmission would need to be replaced. now i am finding out that i am out of warranty by less than one month. this appears to be a consistent problem in this type of vehicle from what i have now found and something that should not happen with only 56,000 miles on it. i do not drive long distances or even on a daily basis, as the fact that i have only added 16,000 miles in the last 19 months can attest. i am extremely frustrated with the entire situation, especially since i had told the dealership months ago that there was an issue that they didn't bother to look into and conveniently can no longer find record of. neither the dealer or chevy were helpful.
A three occasions i have sat a stop light with the car idling, with a rough sounding idle, the car sounding like it was going to stall. on the third occasion, it actually did stall with me needing to restart (which luckily it did) as traffic was bearing down from behind on an early morning commute. i took the car to get serviced within the next two days, with the mechanic telling me that car was dangerously low on oil. i was shocked and surprised to hear this, as i am diligent about getting my oil changed on time. the oil was changed only 3 months prior and the mechanic said it was 3 quarts low on oil!! after hearing this, i've researched and found that this has been a major issue for people with similar year model equinoxes. scary as i felt helpless sitting stalled in heavy morning traffic. lucky i wasn't hit! *tr
I was driving my 2011 chevrolet equinox and the message "engine power is reduced" displayed. the car slowed down to about 30 mph. then the message "service stabilitrack" displayed. i was able to pull into a parking lot and shut the vehicle down. i waited a minute and restarted and drove the vehicle 20 minutes and the problem re-occurred. it was sat afternoon, so the dealer was closed. i nursed the vehicle the rest of the weekend and took it to the dealer monday morning. the dealer says it is a bad throttle body before they even looked at the car, which tells me this is a common problem. the vehicle is unsafe to drive without the repair, so i had them do the service for $603 doing some research and speaking with some mechanic friends, this is a known problem that occurs between 50,000 - 60,000 miles and i feel should be covered under the powertrain warranty. if this had occurred at interstate highway speeds, it could have led to an accident. *tr
When you are driving the 2011 chevrolet equinox ltz and the vehicle goes into "engine power is reduced" mode the vehicle comes to a complete stop within 10 feet. you are unable to turn the steering wheel or continue to move forward in any way with the phrase service stabilitrack appearing right after. you can be driving slowly at 20-25 miles per hour or faster at 35-40 miles per hour and this is able to happen at any moment. total control of the vehicle is lost and the engine is unusable. chevrolet informed us that this is caused by a bad sensor in the throttle body. the sensor is unable to be replaced without replacing the entire throttle body. the vehicle is unusable without replacing the throttle body and the throttle body is not covered after the emissions warranty of 24,000 miles. from years 2006-2009 the throttle body was covered under the powertrain warranty at 100,000 miles. after researching the internet and speaking with local mechanics, it has been noted that multiple equinox drivers have had this issue and it always occurs between 50,000-60,000 miles. frankly the vehicle is unsafe and chevrolet does not care. something should be done to either include this faulty part in a 100,000 mile power train warranty (as the engine will not operate without it) or a recall should be established. in the event that an equinox is traveling at higher speeds (such as on a highway) the situation could potentially cause a fatal injury. video of this occurring will be provided upon request. *tr
I was driving and all of a sudden , the check engine light came on and "reduced engine power" message appeared. you are at highway speed and suddenly you can only go 30 miles an hour no matter how much accelerator is depressed. after pulling over at the first available safe area, turning off the car and restarting seemed to reset the car so it was able to proceed. this continued to happen until i attempted to clean the throttle body. the throttle body wasn't operating correctly. cleaning it did stop the "reduced engine power" message. this car also burns oil, no leaks, but you need a quart or two of dexos oil a month. gm seems to think this is normal. also the car stalls as you reduce speed, like coming to a traffic light. it works fine for awhile, but on certain days, it stalls every time you slow down. the check engine light points to a gas pedal switch.
I was turning left on a green light at the corner of argyle and oakleaf suntrust bank when the car slipped into neutral and i was stuck in oneway opposite traffic until i turned off the engine and restarted it and then was a ble to go into drive, i was almost in a serious accident with several cars. then i was traveling north on hwy 295 and i had it in cruise control and i could not get it to quit until i turned off the engine. the power train was slipping after i had taken it to the chevy dealer and they said it was fixed but less than a year later it started doing the same thing as before, slipping, making loud scratching noises.rubbing noises and it smelled funny like it was burning but there was no fire. *tr
Transmission bangs when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear at slow speed. *tr
while driving the 2011 equinox will jerk or jump as if being hit from behind while attempting to accelerate between 2nd and 3rd gear. the check engine light will not turn off. the stability track light comes on and off periodically while in motion. when the car is being turned off it shakes as if the motor is going to fall out. i have to turn off the ac before turning the ignition switch to off position to decrease some of the shaking, yet it does not prevent it. furthermore while driving at approx.. 30-35mphs, the car jumps to 5th gear without allowing to accelerate any faster in the mist of traffic.the 2011 chevrolet equinox shakes and makes a wining noise while idling. it does so to the point where the hood is shaking. the car only has 54000 miles on it. also i have to constantly adjust the seatbelt while driving because it cuts into my neck which is very uncomfortable and a huge distraction. this car will now go forward in drive but it will not reverse. *tr
Initially the issue started with rough idling of the car, engine ticking, and engine stalling. after indicating this to the dealership, they informed me that the ecm needed to be reprogrammed because the oil life indicator was not properly calibrated causing the system to think that there was more life on the oil than there actually was. the engine balance chain eventually broke while on the interstate (55 mph), due to improper oil lubrication. the fuel pump, water pump, and a few other items had to be replaced due to the damage caused when the chain broke. i notified the dealership once again after engine ticking/ rough idling re-occured and they indicated to me that the engine ticking during startup was normal. the engine ticking progressed to becoming a constant noise. i noticed that when i took the oil in for an oil change, approximately 2000 miles in, that the oil dipstick would come up completely dry. this indicated the vehicle was experiencing an excessive amount of oil consumption. i took the vehicle to the dealership who indicated that pistons had to be replaced and the exhaust manifold was cracked. this indicated that the engine was observing some excessive amount of heat most likely due to the oil consumption issue. during these issues, no service engine light ever came on. the car had to be taken back to the dealership after the service engine light came on which indicated that the cam shaft actuator solenoids and catalytic converter needed to be replaced. the catalytic converter most likely failed due oil seeping into the exhaust which coated the ceramic substrate & the excessive heat experienced by the engine (as indicated by the cracked manifold) damaged the ceramic substrate. oil consumption leads to excessive heat from the engine which can be a fire hazard. engine stalling due to oil consumption leads to crash safety issues.
My wife purchased a 2011 chevy equinox with a window sticker stating a four cylinder engine. it had 1800 miles on the vehicle when purchased. we took the vehicle in to have the oil changed and found it has a six cylinder engine. how is this possible and who should i speak with at gm. i'm very concerned because of the terrible gas mileage and a six cyl engine was not shown on the paper work? *tr
1.while driving in nashville for work the first occurrence started with check engine light. moments later check traction control warning popped up and immediately after a reduced engine power notification and vehicle lost power. went from 55 to 30 mph in seconds. i have no clue how this did not cause a wreck in the heavy traffic. i took the vehicle to the dealership i purchased it from ([xxx] in clarksville, tn) and they told me it was a loose timing chain and that they fixed it. 2.4,000 miles later while working all the same messages popped up and the car completely stalled and would not restart on a busy bypass. vehicle would not restart and i paid to have it towed. this time the dealership said they had to replace the entire timing chain assembly and a housing due to it being destroyed. it was covered by warranty again and they serviced it for free. 3.vehicle ran great for 3600 miles and again the same message sequence occurred. the car fortunately continued to run and i drove it straight to the dealership. i insisted it was a safety hazard and that i wanted to trade it in immediately. 2 hours later they offered me $7,000 under blue book because of engine problems. this was very funny of course since it is chevrolet and the dealerships fault for selling such a lemon. i told them it was under warranty. to fix it again for free and i would pick it up. dealership called next day. said everything was fine. it was out of oil and that caused safeties to kick in and that created the problem. i ask how this is possible you changed my oil 3600 miles ago. 4.last week (again 3800 miles later) the car produced all of the same messages and stalled on the same busy bypass. this time i had my (xxx)year old and (xxx) year old in the car. the speed limit is 55 so of course traffic regularly runs 60 mph. i was stranded with my children on 20 degree weather with no heat. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *trparts of this document have been redacted to protect
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. while driving 65 mph, a loud banging noise was heard under the hood of the vehicle when the gears were shifted. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission, catalytic converter, and engine chain failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. the failure mileage was 72,000.
Transmission failed to shift into any gear when stopping after a long drive. so far two instances where the car failled to move after stopping at a light and at a stop sign after driving more than 50 miles. dealer can find no problem with car.
Upon leaving the home driveway, as the car began to accelerate, the "check engine" light came on, and the information station flashed the warning "stabilitrac / power reduced". the car was still drive-able, but would not accelerate past the first transmission gear. after getting the vehicle back home, i restarted it, and the same warning was displayed in the information station. the vehicle also began to idle very roughly and emit thick black smoke. all indications from internet sources point to a bad throttle body, which was later confirmed by the car dealership. according to the massive amount of complaints about this part, it has a very high failure rate in this vehicle. however, chevy refuses to cover this part as part of their power-train warranty. the "power reduced" condition caused by this part failure is a very dangerous thing to have happen to you if you are turning in a busy intersection or on an interstate highway, and if something is not done, there will be injuries or fatalities because of it. *tr
This vehicle has never gotten anywhere near the advertised epa estimated gas mileage. i have over 20000 miles on it now and have only averaged around 23 mpg on the highway in eco mode. this really should be considered false advertising. i bought the vehicle mainly because of the estimated 30 mpg. really disappointed in gm at this point. *tr
Engine loss of power, with service engine light illumination and service traction control message. drove vehicle home in "limp mode" before taking to servicing dealership, the following tuesday. dealer performed balance chain repair under manufacturer special warranty letter. afterwards, dealer advised of engine code p2135 and stated vehicle required a "throttle body" replacement, at a full parts & labor cost of $583.00. dealer stated that this repair is no longer covered under gm's powertrain warranty. multiple online posts indicate that this same loss of engine power issue has occurred with vehicles traveling at freeway speeds, which will be mush more dangerous. *tr
Cruising along at 65 mph on highway when service stabilitrak light along with reduce engine power came up on the dash. i lost engine power and went from 65 mph to 15 mph. i was able to pull onto an exit ramp. i quickly pulled over & parked the car. shut the car off & waited about 1 min & turned the car back on. the stabilitrak & the reduce engine power cleared off my dash but the check engine light stayed on. then was able to merge back into traffic & pick up the 65 mph speed. i was worried that it would happen again when i had to cross oncoming traffic. when i got in my car later, the service engine light had even turned off, but on the way home it happened again. took it to the shop and was told it was a throttle body/solenoid issue & that it needs replaced. they told me it isn't covered under the pt warranty. as others have also said, i'm seeing a number of people with this same issue & wondering why this isn't a recall? it's very unsafe especially cause you don't know when its going to happen. if your doing 65-70 mph on a highway & there are cars close to you & the vehicle decides to do this, you and your family are going to get killed. *tr
Sensors for the throttle control went out causing reduced engine power in sub zero weather at a stop. this made for hazardous driving in rush hour traffic as it was difficult to get the car above 15 mi per hr especially up any slight incline when the normal speed limit was 45 and every one is annoyed they are being slowed down. *tr
Engine loss of power, with service engine light illumination and reduced engine power message while driving on interstate highway when under 5 deg. f at night.. onstar advised to stop driving the vehicle due to engine damage concern and potential fire. drove vehicle in "limp mode" direct to servicing dealership, dealer advised of engine code p2135 and stated vehicle required a "throttle body" replacement (same as onstar), at a full parts & labor cost of almost 500.00 dollars. dealer stated that this repair is no longer covered under gm's powertrain warranty (yet is a p-code and is obviously powertrain related as it is the throttle body) or the emissions warranty. not only is the failure mode dangerous, so is the vehicle response to the condition (reduced power). not having the issue covered by warranty of some type makes it even worse. *tr
Was driving about an hr check engine light came on reduced engine power came across screen could not get the car to drive even with gas pedal pushed all the way to the floor ran test code came up throttle body had to disconnect and reconnect battery to make of work again. cleaned throttle body found that the exhaust manifold broke in half and melted one 02 censor. never had problem again til 12/27/14 again the reduced power and check engine light came on once again it was the throttle body. *tr
Received notice from chevrolet 2.4l engine may contain 2 parts subject to premature failure due to wear. failure of either part has potential to render vehicle inoperable and cause major engine damage. chevrolet's proposed fix is for owner to drive vehicle to failure and then deliver it to a dealer and they will repair at no charge. owners should not be subjected to the personal safety risk of being stranded on the side of the road late at night or on some deserted highway. chevrolet's proposed solution is totally unacceptable; the defective parts should be replaced before someone is hurt while waiting for help. *tr
While driving at 50 mph, the check stabilization system light came on. next, the engine cut power without warning. i had the car towed to the dealership and i was told the car needs a new throttle body. however, the part is back ordered and nobody can tell me when it will be available. apparently there is a national shortage. i was just fortunate that another car was not behind me when the engine cut power. i have called gm about this issue. my concern is that this will happen again even if i replace the throttle body. *tr
On 18 dec 2012 the car lunged forward while exiting a parking lot. ten minutes later the car lost all power on a busy highway. i could not steer the car to the shoulder of the road. . . . the car was dead. police arrived to warn me of being in a very dangerous spot. i was towed by aaa to the dealership where the car was purchased. service at the dealership = oil/filter change. odometer - 9778. the old problem recurred today 22 feb 2013. odometer 10329 sluggishness, slow response to acceleration, died twice in reverse, and general undependable. i'm afraid to drive the car. it is a hazard on the road. please help. *tr
This has occurred multiple times ant infrequent and unexpected intervals. it has been presented to dealerships multiple times without resolution. when trying to accelerate from a stop at an intersection, the motor will lag and/or drop in rpm similar to a manual transmission car. the lag creates a 1-2 second delay in the transmission propelling the vehicle forward or doing so at a speed that is constantly increasing. this occurs without regard to the amount that the accelerator peddle is depressed. this delay creates a significant delay that poses a safety hazard and has nearly resulted in multiple intersection collisions. *tr
Loss of power for a few seconds after accelerating, letting off of gas and re-accelerating. lag in engine/transmission response leads to potential accidents! has occurred multiple times. 4 cylinder. *tr
2011 chevy equinox. consumer writes in regards to automatic transmission failure. *smd the consumer stated on two occasion, the automatic transmission failed to re-engage while making a slow rolling turn from a center turning lane into a driveway. in both situation, the engine continued to operate normally, but the transmission did not engage leaving the vehicle stalled in the path of oncoming traffic. in each situation, the vehicle need to be placed in park, shut of and then re-started in order for the vehicle to move out of the traffic lane. the first incident happened in september 2012 and the second occurrence happened on february 6, 2013. the dealer examined and tested the vehicle and found no problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox lt. the contact stated that while driving 55 mph with the vehicle speed control activated, the gear disengaged itself and would not shift into another gear. this caused the engine to rev. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who ran a diagnostic test and could not diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to file a complaint and contact nhtsa. they offered no further assistance. the failure mileage was 37,000.
Vehicle has had inordinate transmission noise since around 10k mileage. while vehicle was idling, went into incredibly rough idle, vehicle shaking with warning message about stabilitrack error and vehicle shut down. while this initially happened while idling, it also happened numerous times at speeds from 20-50 mph as reported by spouse. after multiple trips to the dealer for unacceptable engine noise, engine shutting off and cel illumination (separate issue that has also never been remedied), an issue with the timing chain and fuel pump was alluded to and that a "fix" for this would be available in late spring of 2013. fuel pump and timing chain replaced at no charge that summer, but similar symptoms continued. loud, rough idle, intermittent vehicle shutdowns. eventually took to another dealer who stated it was a throttle body issue and that this somehow was not covered by powertrain warranty even though this "used" to be part of the transmission, it somehow no longer is on newer models. after a $500+ repair, issue hasn't recurred in last 3 months (so far), but cel still illuminates during wet conditions (which both dealers cannot seem to fix). i feel this vehicle has been a lemon since about 10k miles and continues to be so. we only own chevy's but between this vehicle and our apparently dangerous '05 cobalt, we can no longer afford to put our trust in chevy and will need to seek out other vehicle manufacturers. it is apparent chevy only cares about the money we can funnel to them for buying american. that will stop with the next vehicle purchase this summer when we turn in the cobalt (for probably next to nothing due to its new safety reputation). i mention this info as we really want to put our faith, trust and money into an american car corportation like chevy and have been overly patient with them. no longer...others need to know about these issues. *tr
I started my car which sounded like a jet engine, like it was going to go airborne. i accelerated and going only 5 mph the rpm raced to 4,000. i took my foot off of the gas and the car jerked. i accelerated again going only 5 mph and again the rpm raced to 4,000. the car jerked again and i felt like i had been hit from behind. i had just left my driveway so pulled back in and called my dealer. the car was towed in but the problem could not be duplicated nor was there a code. i have the car back but expect this is going to happen again. *tr
I put the car in drive and the engine sounded like an airplane taking off. i pulled out on the street, accelerated and noticed the needle go up to 4 rpm's at approximately 10 miles an hour. i took my foot off the accelerator and the car jolted and felt like i had been hit from behind. i accelerated again and the same thing happened, again feeling like i was hit from behind. the car is presently at my dealership but they cannot duplicate the problem. today they are going to drive it for a good distance on the expressway. i had read one complaint on the equinox forum where someone was driving on the interstate with cruise control on and something very similar happened to them with the rpm sticking at 4 rpm's. i told my dealership about this and ask if maybe they are related problems. *tr
Good evening, 6 years ago i had a chevy cobalt and experienced that situation. my vehicle powered itself off and the steering wheel locked up and i went straight for a wall inside a parking garage. later that year i received a recall for the vehicle. now i have a 2011 chevy equinox and the same thing happened. the only difference was i was on a four lane highway and my vehicle powered off and the steering wheel locked. thank god no one was behind me and i didn't get knocked off the street or even worse killed. i took the car into the dealership only to find out they couldn't find anything wrong and my concern was something unheard. i expressed to them my concern of that happening on a crowded highway or an expressway. when i took my car into the dealership they said that they couldn't find anything wrong with it. i dropped my vehicle off there and left it for a day. when i called the dealership the following day before getting off they told me my car was ready i went to pick it up and they had me waiting for 30 minutes. when i inquired about what was taking so long the service manager replied that the mechanic was back there making love to my car. i couldn't find any humor in the situation because this is a very serious issue.before i was nonchalantly brushed off and told if it happens again to bring it into the dealership. i couldn't get gm corporate office to understand how serious this issue. it wasn't till now that i realized that others are also experiencing this issue with gm and it is unfortunate that lives have been lost. thank you for all you all do. please email me back if you can. *tr

At 4000 miles the radiator failed and the car overheated. replaced radiator. at the same time there was and still is a clunking at low speeds and when up-shifting. the clunk has been so dramatic that i thought on several occasions that i was hit from the rear. it actually makes me sick to my stomach driving the car and makes people in the back sicker. additionally some where above 30 miles an hour the car has several times hesitated as if running out of gas. the gas peddle does not respond properly, hesitating before catching on. now at 11,000 and three return visits to the dealer they say that this is how all equinox cars have this drive performance and it is "normal" . this was not an issue when we first got the car and had i been told that some equinox drive like this, i would not have bought the car knowing this. i know from searching the internet that this was a problem in 2009 and still is and was sold a car that they knew could be faulty without a current software fix. i will not drive this car again, especially knowing now that they can stall at 30 miles and hour. *tr
I purchased a new chevy equinox on may 13, 2011 from maritime motors in fairfield, ct it has been a nightmare from the beginning drivetrain/timing issues, bucking on acceleration and deceleration and pulsing at traffic lights and stop signs. the equinox still occasionally clatters upon starting (after the recall was apparently fixed in summer 2011), and the vehicle also pulses at stop signs and traffic lights to the point it feels like it is going to stall and i have to remove my foot from the brake to stop the pulsing. i have had nothing from maritime motors (or general motors) in terms of support on this issue. i do not feel safe in the vehicle - i have five witnesses/passengers who have experienced my concerns. in addition, i have two friends with the same make and model (purchased from maritime motors) and are experiencing identical issues. the state of connecticut department of consumer protection has resolved four recent complaints with gm for the exact same issues. *tr
