Windshield wipers stopped working during downpour when driving down highway. motor still work but wipers not moving.
I was driving on the road at about 55mph and my windshield wipers completely stopped working. they got stuck in the middle of the windshield and the motor made sounds as if it was working but the windshield wipers did not move. it was raining and we had to pull over because it was very dangerous.
Most recently was driving in heavy rain and the windshield wipers just stopped working in the upright position, and visibility was extremely impaired. had my granddaughter with me, they had to roll down windows to help me get safely off the road. this vehicle has had problems with the fuel system in 2015, air conditioner quit working in 2014, failed oil consumption test in 2016. i bough a new car because in didn't want mechanical problems and this vehicle has had nothing but problem after problem. it is a lemon.
My wipers stopped working while driving on the freeway in the pouring rain. they will not work now. i was forced to drive 60 miles without them, in the rain. it is not the fuse, i checked.
While driving the vehicle on the road @ 55 mph in the pouring rain with the window wipers working, the driver's wiper moved past the windshield and became wedged against the driver's window. while driving i opened the driver's window and pushed the wiper back on to the windshield. the wipers were stationary on the windshield and no longer operated. i drove 10 miles in the pouring rain without any wipers. when i arrived home, i could move the wipers by hand. i could hear a scraping metal sound.
May 22nd 2019 it was reading a lot, as i was driving, my driver side wiper went up and started there, as the passenger side continued working. when this happened, i heard the snapping of the bar. thank god for rainx. i ended up adjusting the wiper blade to make a "euro" wiper, then just replaced the wiper transmission all together.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. while driving 40 mph, the front windshield wipers failed. the contact had to drive home slowly in the inclement weather. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 1000,000. the vin was unavailable.
I was on my way back 1 hour into a 5 hour trip from washington dc to new york. it was pouring rain and the traffic was moving approximately 55 mph. i had 3 kids in the car with me. suddenly, with no warning, my windshield wipers flipped off of the drivers side and stopped and would not go back on. i could see nothing. it was terrifying. my kids and i are lucky to be alive today. fortunately there were short breaks in the rain so i was able to pull off the highway and park in a safe place, had the vehicle towed and was informed that the wiper transmission was defective and needed to be replaced. there are so many reports on car gurus about this issue. same year, same make model, as well as other years.
I was driving down the road traveling at 65mph in the rain when my windshield wipers stopped working. the motor was working, stating that it was heard. the wiper transmission on the other hand had stopped. the plastic bushings were loose and snapped off. this will be the 3rd time replacing them in the last two months. going to change the whole system now.
The windshield wiper transmission failed while driving in heavy rain. a plastic bushing broke and caused the failure. after researching problem, i found this to be a common problem in several model years of the chevrolet equniox.
Windshield wipers stopped working while driving. check engine light comes on while driving and oil runs out well before recommend oil change and no low oil warning lights come on. car burns a lot of oil and makes a loud noise from engine but told that this is normal for this brand.

First equinox owned - gm replaced engine at no cost to me. thought it was safe to purchase another equinox. own a 2011 chevrolet equinox fwd 2.4 liter engine. excessive oil consumption; stalling while at stoplights, etc.; engine light comes on frequently; multiple wheel hub assemblies replaced; wiper transmission replaced; clattering noise within engine that cannot be fixed per mechanic; stablitrak and abs lights on; limp mode several times. have spent many hundreds of dollars to fix. going to gm for complete engine replacement. 126,600 miles at present. purchased 9/8/2016 with 80,437 miles.
Windshield wiper motor link breaks whenever i use my wipers and then i need to replace. has happened multiple times. excessive oil consumption. oil is empty after no more then 2000 miles. need to add 4 quarts to refill. no leaks.
While driving in a heavy rain storm my vehicles windshield wipers completely lost function. luckily i was close enough to my home to take a couple back roads and drive very slowly with almost no visibility due to loss of wiper function. this occurred on a city street with high standing water and was being operated at about 25mph. my vehicle year is currently under investigation for recall by the nhtsa for the ball joint assembly rusting and breaking. in the mean time i am currently trying to figure out how to conservatively repair the vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. while the contact was driving in inclement weather, the windshield wiper motor fractured. the contact was able to replace the windshield wiper motor. the contact also stated that at 80,000 miles, the timing chain fractured and caused major damage to the engine. the vehicle was repaired by bill fox chevrolet (located at 725 s rochester rd, rochester hills, mi 48307, (248) 266-0563). the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 92,000.

I was driving down i75 when it started raining then pouring,i turned on my wipers and they worked fine for a couple minutes. then stopped working ,i could still hear the moter working ,but no movement from he wiperblades.ttraffic was heavy and i could not see ,i turned on my flashers and luckily was able to get to the side of the road then i waited till the rain stopped to drive home
Driving on the city street in the rain. windshield wipers stopped working bushing came apart. no recall on part hole windshield wiper transmission needs to be replaced.
We were on vacation in florida. a sudden torrential rain came. i turned my wipers on high and after a few seconds they just stopped working. i could not see so i had to quickly put on my wipers and slowly pull to the side in the midst of heavy traffic leaving the park
Wipers failed in rainstorm. was travelling on rt 81 at approximately 65 mph near binghampton, ny..
Wiper module transmission assembly failed during rain storm. i was driving on a 70 mile an hour highway at the time. driver's wiper blade went off the windshield to the left and would not move after that.
Front windshield wipers stopped working. motor does run.
My wipers stopped working today, while i was driving to work, i pulled on the side of the road. i almost died because they was no shoulder lane at the time. my friend came and guided me on base at a local shop. i talked to chevy they did not care stating the recall was not for this year. i thought that was stupid because it was the same part. chevy had recalls for the same issue, same make, model of the next year and beyond.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the wiper blade motor and linkage became detached. the vehicle was taken to jim taylor chevrolet (139 grimshaw st, rayville, la 71269), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer. no further assistance was provided. the approximate failure mileage was 200,012.
During heavy rain storm while on the highway traveling @ 65 mph the windshield wipers both stopped working. the arm that links the motor to the wiper transmission had completely disconnected. very dangerous as it happened at highway speed during rush hour. general motors calls the part that failed wiper transmission. when i spoke with the chevrolet parts dept employee he stated its a very common failure and its the exact part that is recalled on 2013 equinox.
Wiper blade motor stopped working in a heavy downpour. i was on a road i know so was able to pull off safely. if i didn't know this road i am positive i would have had an accident. the manifold was changed in 2013. today is march 22, 2018. last week i had the manifold changed again. cracked again. there were fumes coming into the passenger area. the car is in the repair garage again because the fumes are even worse. the car has always had a loud ticking sound. it uses a lot of oil. i complained to the dealer before the warranty ran out. they did an oil consumption test and said the oil use was within normal range. how can this be normal range when i put a couple quarts of oil every 200 miles. this car is junk.
10-10-2017 - while driving home during a heavy rainstorm, wipers going full speed, wipers stopped with one wiper going off the left side of the windshield, other wiper stopped in my driving view. once i was able to get parked, i laid the wiper blades down, tried the get them to work but only heard the motor run, wipers not moving. had them checked out by a mechanic and was told that i needed a new wiper transmission. this one had a worn out part that would continue to pop out of socket if used. i've read of other complaints of this happening. gm needs to make this a recall. it's very dangerous when it happens. gm wiper motor and transmission is roughly $150.00 at the dealership plus their labor cost. this should not wear out so soon on a 2011 model.
The windshield piper came loose and slammed against my window
Chevy place where i take it in quincy florida said they check it quote ? right! ) but had to got and paid at a mechanical shop that care for the safety of there customer to check for me and the said this not right part for this suv 2011 that why it keep making they noises and damaging the side of my back window case not the right arm for the back window arm putting a motor hit hard strain. let i said chevy in quincy florida said they fit but it still do it
Driving in a bad rainstorm the wipers suddenly stopped was ness. to pull off to the side of the road to wait out the storm.had to replace the wiper asm. because the transmission arm popped off of the motor.bad design gm. this should be recalled!
While driving on a busy main thoroughfare during a rainstorm my windshiled wipers suddenly stopped working. i quickly cut on my hazards and pulled off to the side of the road. my daughter and i could hear a motor hum when i turned the wipers on but they never moved. we were stranded to an hour until the storm passed and i could see to drive again. this could have been a fatal accident had i not been able to pull over so quickly.
Our daughter was driving home between memphis, tn and nashville, tn, during a thunderstorm. her wipers at full blast, went to the left and stopped! all she could do is pull over and wait until, the storm passed. as parents, last thing you want to hear is your 25 year daughter is sitting on the side of i40 at night unable to travel and we live 8 hours away! the next morning she checked the wipers, nope, na-da. said she can hear the motor humming, but nothing is working. everyone near her wants 350.00 + to replace it.... that's a lot of money for a graduate student! seems to be a reoccurring problem gm, you need to do the right thing!
The wipers suddenly stopped working while driving under a torrential downpour and couldn't see a thing. there is currently a recall for this exact issue but only in canada. https://gm.oemdtc.com/6968/25300-03-safety-recall-front-wiper-transmission-corrosion-failure-canada-only-2010-2017-chevrolet-equinox-gmc-terrain
Driving on highway with wipers on. wipers suddenly whipped to the left and stopped. wiper motor runs but wipers do not operate. almost caused accident.
Tonight, while driving down the interstate during a torrential downpour, my windshield wipers stopped completely during operation as i was passing by a semi. i could not see and had to pull over almost immediately. this issue had occurred in the past, but they started working again once the weather cleared up. there is a recall on this same issue with the 2013 equinox. why not the 2011 model?
Transmission died on my wiper blades causing bad visibility and was unable to drive it due to it snowing out. i then had to bring it to a dealer ship depaula chevorlet with no wipers and pay $350 to have them replace the transmission. there is a recall on the 2013 why not mine a 2011 awd chevy equinox lt? this happened i want to say at the end of february beginning of march during a blizzard in upstate ny while driving to pick up my daughter.
Driving while it was raining windshield wipers were going all of a sudden they went way past where they normally stop and couldn't see the road tried turning them off and on nothing happened had to hang my head out the window to find a place to pull over to safety because it was at night time and couldn't see if anything was coming or if i was going to run off in a ditch and had my little girl in the back seat to make matters worse but once i got out looked at them was able to move them by hand back into position but still wouldn't work you could hear the motor moving inside but wipers wouldn't at all im thank ful when this happened i wasn't on the interstate and was only going like 40 mph with it raining but wipes never gave a sign previously anything was wrong they have always worked fine there was no reason for this vehicle to do this im a chevy person and have stood my it but this is very dangerous especially with it pouring down rain. *tr
I was driving to work and the front windshield wipers shut off while they were on. i had to slow down because of this because it was raining when it happened.
While driving 50+ mph on a busy local highway, the wiper transmission stopped working and the wiper blades stopped in an upward position completely blocking visibility! this was confirmed by a mechanic and this part will need to be replaced.
I was driving in a rainstorm and the wipers quit. the repair was $499. i live in fear that it will happen again on a busier highway. i'n not sure of the exact date.
Wiper transmission failure - i was driving home on the expressway during heavy snow and the wipers stopped working. wipers stopped in the upward position blocking my view along with the snow. was difficult to see my way to a safe place to stop. i took the car in to have the wipers checked today and was advised the wiper transmission failed.
Driving on the pennsylvania turnpike 6:45am to work. 2-16-16 heavy rain 50 mi per hour in the passing lane the windshield wipers broke. flopped over i could not see a thing in front of me i put the window down and grabbed the wiper tip manually worked it put on my flashers had to pull get over on the passenger lane then onto a pull over mile marker 307. i could not believe i was not involved in an accident. had the wipers went in the other direction i would not be writing you at this time. this was so dangerous and needs to be addressed as there are many models that will start seeing this happen if it is a usage defect? it is at our chevy dealers service at this moment being repaired i am not sure yet what broke to cause this.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 65 mph with the windshield wipers engaged at the highest level, the windshield wipers failed. the contact was unable to see in front of her and had to roll the driver side window down to see the road. the contact exited the highway and drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ball popped out of socket on the windshield mechanism. the mechanic popped the ball back into the socket. the windshield wipers worked as designed; however, the contact did not use the wipers at the highest level. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 76,000. ...updated 02/19/16 *bf updated 03/03/16.*jb
After only 5 years of use, i believe that the blender door has stuck in the closed position and the front and driver-passenger side windows have fogged up to the point that driver cannot continue driving. this is a very serious situation that needs to be addressed as soon as possible to prevent a serious accident. vehicle was moving while on a city street.
Front window defroster does not defrost or defog front windshield.windshield fogs if there is any moisture
3 weeks after purchasing this vehicle from a used car lot, the wipers stopped operating while in use. the motor was working properly, however my mechanic found that the wiper transmission had failed. he stated that in his opinion, this is a common issue due to the fact that the local chevrolet dealership had several of this part in stock. this repair was not covered under the 90-day warranty provided by the dealership where i purchased the vehicle. i believe i should be reimbursed by the manufacturer for this repair, which totaled $367.35 (receipt available upon request) and an investigation should be conducted on these wiper transmissions as this is a serious safety hazard. in researching this issue online, i have found that others have complained of the same issue on the 2011 chevrolet equinox.
I was driving home from work in a very bad rain storm on route 9 in newington ct going southbound (please check the weather for that day around 5:10pm). this is a highway where cars were traveling probably between 50 ? 60 miles per hour during rush hour traffic, when the windshield wipers just stopped working. i was driving blind down a major highway in poor weather conditions. i was lucky enough to barely find the breakdown lane while falling off the road periodically as i could not see where the roadside was. i slowly worked my way on to the exit 29 ramp so i could sit until help arrived. the dealer replaced the motor. over the course of four months, the heating mechanism that controlled the direction of the heater, and throttle body were replaced. the first incident with the heating was discovered during a cold winter morning as the consumer was driving and the defroster was not providing any heat to clear the window. the second incident occurred while driving to work as well.
Heater was not changing modes, there was no actuator movement, therefore no defroster during winter. this left me with poor visibility. *tr
While driving on interstate, windshield started to fog switched heat control to defog windshield and it did not switch, as visibility was reduced i was nearly involved in an accident.the defrost system still does not work. there was a recall for this same problem on 2010 models. contacted dealer and estimate was at least $400.00 to replace a $21.00 part vehicle warranty is expired. this is another gm safety issue and there should be a recall. *tr
