Noticed a strong smell of gasoline eminating from the rear passenger side exterior of the car last week. after not using the car for a couple of days - the problem reoccured this morning. i did a quick search online and found alot of complaints relating to fuel leaks / fuel pump / fuel module problems associated with the 2007 equinox. i called my local chevrolet dealer and was told that there is no recall at this time and all repairs are the responsibility of the owner. *tr

I smell a strong gas smell...there is a puddle of gas undertank in driveway...i had it looked at,and it's the hose at the top of the fuel pump...it's cracked...can't afford to fix it....about 1200.00...it's the only vehicle i have...called gm but no help....it's not a recall, and not going to be one....so what do i do? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that she could smell gasoline from the exterior of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. the mechanics advised the contact that the plastic supply port on the fuel pump was fractured. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump) but she was advised by the dealer and the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included in the recall and offered no further assistance. the failure and current mileage was 90,000.

I have had my equinox since 2008; it is a 2007 model. i have had continual repairs on the electrical rear lights and the belt tensioner, but this next repair is by far the worst. when the car was in park position the odor of gasoline was strong around the perimeter of the car. when driving, the smell of gas circulated into the air conditioning system penetrating the inside of the car. the smell was strongest on the outer side by the gas tank. i took the car to get a diagnostic test and found a leak above the gas tank. further inspection revealed the fuel pump was leaking gasoline, about six inches from the muffler. this defect could have resulted in serious injury or fatalities as i regularly carry children in the back seat. this car is only 5 years old and it seems to require too many repairs for the few years/miles it has traveled. as a thoughtful vehicle owner, i take precautions to preserve the life of my vehicle through regular maintenance and covered storage from natural elements. certainly these kinds of defects are not an expected occurrence in this kind of vehicle. disappointed equinox owner :( *tr

Strong gas smell from the tank area at appx 58000 mi. my mechanic could not locate the leak, said i would have to take it to the dealer. the dealer said it was not covered on a recall for several states. am i mistaken, or didn't all these 07 equinox's come from the same assembly plant ?????? online research shows many complaint's with this same problem. at present my problem still exists (seems to be getting worse, smelling stronger) cannot afford the repair. if in the future i am able to purchase a new vehicle, i will certainly do so with a different car company. (maybe if i moved to------------------ *tr

It is a recall on 2007 chevy equinox for the fuel tank leaking. i called the gm dealership and they act like they have no idea what i am talking about. *tr

My 07 chevy equinox is leaking from the gas tank on the rear passenger side of the car. a very strong odor is coming into the car i called the local chevrolet dealer and they told me that this was a on going problem with this year equinox but it hasn't been re called . i looked up this problem and there's a ton of cars with the same problem this is so dangerous to have. i have counted over 200 other complaints for the same problem, on the same model year on various other automotive help sites. i feel this is a very serious defect putting human life's in jeopardy. this is very dangerous and can result in the vehicle catching on fire if someone flicks a cigarette or there is a rear end or passenger side collision. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that a gasoline odor emitted inside the vehicle. the fuel tank and the fuel pump were leaking. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who stated that the fuel tank module and fuel pump module was cracked. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure who stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle and would not assist the contact with any of the repair cost. the failure mileage was 49,150 and the current mileage was 49,500.

Notice a strong gas smell near filler door; noticed slight wetness on gas tank underneath car and the smell of gas is overwhelming. the closeness of the gas tank and the exhaust pipe cause concern for a fire. *tr

After returning home from a 2 hour road trip i noticed a heavy gasoline odor in my garage. the next morning when i went to start my vehicle it had trouble starting and the heavy gasoline odor persisted. i could also smell gasoline inside the cab of the vehicle while driving. i took the vehicle to a mechanic and he determined that the fuel pump/fuel sending unit had a crack on the top of the housing. when the vehicle is running it would spray fuel out of the pump housing. very dangerous because the exhaust runs very close to the fuel tank and fuel sending unit. the entire fuel pump and sending unit had to be replaced at a cost of $880. *tr

Fuel pump leaking, strong smell of gas, took vehicle to dealership, fuel pump replaced. after the fact a recall was made from gm about fuel pumps on my exact vehicle. i didn't qualify due to recall is vin specific. there may be more vehicles out there like mine that fit within recall guidelines with the exception of the vin not included on their recall list. gm may need to expand their recall to include more vin's. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. while parked, the contact smelled fuel inside and outside of the vehicle. there was no fuel visible on the ground. the vehicle was taken an authorized dealer, who stated that the fuel pump module would need to be replaced. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 14,985.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while having maintenance done at the dealer, the contact was notified that the fuel pump modulator was cracked and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and they confirmed the vin failed to qualify for repairs under nhtsa campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump). the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 75,000.

Detected smell of gasoline while parked among many other cars. did not think much of it until at home detected smell of gasoline inside and out of the vehicle. look around and saw gas dripping from the rear passenger side of car. check under the car and it seemed like gas leaking from the top of the gas tank. took vehicle to dealer and agreed on repair. dealer had previously said cost would be approximately 500 dollars. when vehicle was at the garage i was told over 900 dollars to repair. i agreed, hoping there would eventually be a recall, since i had read of many complains on line. i was able to get the labor charged refunded to me. a few months later i received a safety recall notice. the letter specifically says "your 2007 model year chevrolet equinox, vin xxxxxxxxxxxxx is involved in safety recall 12190. etc. when to dealer, and the service guy say "your vehicle does not show any open recalls and that only certain one have that fuel pump module recall. i told him "look at the letter" but i got nowhere. true i had the vehicle repaired, but the letter mentions a refund. plus, did i get the right replacement part or some other generic part? so why does my letter say your....is involved in safety recall..yet the dealer's system says "no" to this recall. by the way i did buy it in california and it's register also at california. *tr

I have barely 60,000 miles, never wrecked or compromised. i bought it with 8,000 miles in 2008. i began to smell raw fuel inside and outside of my vehicle a few weeks ago and thinking that it may go away, but didn't. i have had debilitating headaches from it and my husband rode with me one day and said that this was not normal. i took it to a local mechanic to diagnose that it was a definite leak in the tank area, but without taking the tank down completely, he could not diagnose the exact spot. come to find out, it is the fuel pump that is being replaced. i am now going to be out $900.00 (including labor-which was $353). i loved this vehicle, but now with the health scaret to myself and my young son, my thoughts of buying another chevrolet product is being compromised. i am 2 payments away from paying it off. this is not a normal problem and should be considered as a defect in the manufacturing. please assist promptly. In the process of having a flat tire repaired on the right rear of the vehicle the mechanic discovered a fuel leak. i called the dealer and took the car to be looked at and repaired. i was told there was a special bulletin concerning the fuel leaks. i provided the vin and the service manager checked and said this vehicle was not included. i stated this is a major safety issue but gm does not want to correct the issue. i had the vehicle repaired at $1100 for the safety of my family. i will seek compensation from gm myself. gm would not help the dealer because of the mileage. it should not matter about the mileage for this fuel leak because of the proximity of the leak right next to the exhaust system. gm needs to recall the equinox and reimburse those who have had expensive repairs. this will cost gm more in the future over lawsuits when someone is severely injured or killed because of the vehicle exploding!!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. while parked, the contact noticed a strong fuel odor in the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the contact was unaware of the repairs that were needed. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump) and contacted the dealer however, the dealer was unable to verify if the vehicle was included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact was driving 35 mph when the smell of fuel emitted inside of the vehicle. the engine stabilizer warning light illuminated after the failure. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 88,532 and the current mileage was 88,562.

Strong smell of gasoline is noticed after vehicle is started and ran. checking beneath fuel tank, it is visible that gasoline is leaking from pump/connections area on top of tank. also has the leak in vicinity of exhaust creating a potential fire hazard, not to mention health hazard from breathing fuel vapors. the exhaust will need to be removed to facilitate removal of fuel tank in order to correct or replace leaking pump. the vehicle is still in operable condition and a person would assume that external leakage would result in a safety recall to repair manufacturing defect. normally you do not have a leakage of the pump before a complete failure of said pump. i personally think the manufacturer should recall and pay for repairs. and if a person has already made the repair that the repair fees be reimbursed. vehicle does not in my opinion have enough age or miles to be having this problem. *tr

On approximately july 9, 2012 we smelled gas fumes from our 2007 chevrolet equinox. it happened one or two more times after that. on july 19 we noticed the smell was very strong and we became concerned. i called the dealer where we take the car, mike anderson chevrolet in chicago, and told them we were bringing the car in due to a gas smell and a possibly dangerous problem with the car. after they checked the car, they told me they had to drop the fuel tank to see where the leak was. they did that and found that the leak was in the lines that ran from the fuel pump. they estimated the cost of repair at approximately $1300. i told them to go ahead with the repair. i then contacted chevrolet to see if there was anything they could do since we had such low mileage on the car. after approximately 4 days, chevrolet agreed to pay 15% of the cost of repair. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevroley equinox. the contact stated that the vehicle had a strong smell of fuel. the contact was able to trace the smell to the fuel tank and found that there was a crack on the fuel pump module. the contact spoke to the manufacturer about nhtsa recall campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system: gasoline delivery: fuel pump), but the manufacturer did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 98,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that there was a strong smell of gasoline inside the vehicle. the contact purchased a new fuel pump from an independent mechanic and replaced it independently. several months later, he was alerted to the recall for nhtsa campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump) and called the manufacturer but they offered no assistance, as he did not reside in one of the states listed in the recall. the failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 57,000.

Apparently, there are a large number of complaints about 2006-2007 chevrolet equinox having a strong fuel smell around the vehicle. in most cases, the fuel leakage is coming from the fuel pump assembly, an o-ring or gasket connecting to the tank itself is usually the cause of the leakage, causing fuel to pool on the top of the tank. leaking fuel is a safety hazard and could cause fire and explosion if ignited, fuel vapors are unhealthy to inhale and fuel vapors are generally not good for the environment. the repair is expensive in labor as it involves dropping the fuel tank. chevrolet needs to issue a manufacturer recall for this problem and reimburse those who have already paid for he repair. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while traveling 35 to 45 mph fuel fumes were emitted inside of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who confirmed that the fuel pump was cracked and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of failure and they confirmed the vin failed to qualify for repairs under nhtsa campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 70,842. updated 11/13/12 *cn updated 11/28/2012 *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that fuel fumes were emitted into the vehicle. the contact was informed about recall nhtsa campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who stated that the vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 105,000.

I started smelling gas fumes on the 14th of june 2012. they got worse until i took the chevy to a dealer in kingman az. they found that their was a gas leak at the top of the gas tank. to correct this problem you have to remove the whole rear end to correct. the car is an awl which makes it more difficult to remove. the dealer suggested that we do not drive the car as of the fuel danger. because of this we were forced to buy a new car which we really did not want to do. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that whenever he was inside of the vehicle, he could smell gasoline fuel. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic where they stated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline). the failure mileage was 140,000.

The fuel module is leaking gas down the passenger side of the gas tank (four inches from the exhaust pipe). chevrolet has this same problem on the cobalt and it was recalled. the equinox has not yet been recalled for this problem. this is a potential thermal event. *tr

Several months back i started noticing a strong gas smell coming from the right side rear near the exhaust of my vehicle. i have been told that the tank has to be dropped (a very expensive service) to determine the issue with fuel and that there is a visible leak when the car is parked and running. i have noticed that there are numerous complaints about this same problem from other 2007 chevy equinox owners. this is obviously a manufacture defect that needs to addressed by a proper recall. this defect is very dangerous and could be fatal if not fixed. *tr

While driving my equinox, i smelled gas and thought i had wasted gas when i went to the gas station. after smelling gas for weeks, my husband checked the truck and found it had gas leaking from it. i took the truck to the dealership and they found that it was leaking from the fuel assembly and stated that this was a common ongoing problem with this vehicle. after calling gm they refuse to correct this problem and states that if your warranty has expired there is nothing they can do. after checking online i found that there are tons of complaints from fellow equinox owners about this defect and i feel that chevy should be made to offer a recall and be forced to fix this problem before someone gets killed. *tr

I purchased the vehicle on 8/26/11 at greenway chevrolet in orlando, florida at 87k mileage. i smell gas coming from the rear right wheel area and took the vehicle to david maus in sanford, florida on 5/1/12 told them to check vehicle for the smell and to get an oil change and tire rotation. at that time the vehicle mileage is 99883. they said that they didn't see anything wrong to make the gas smell. so i continued to drive the vehicle when the scent got stronger and stronger then i witness gas visible leaking so i took the vehicle back to david maus in sanford for repair. they then confirmed the fuel pump leak.so i had to replace it. i also contact general motors for the first time to advised of the fuel pump malfunction, and they advised that there is nothing they can do and its considered wear and tear and not a manufacturer defect. now there is a recall on certain chevrolet equinox fuel pump so i contact general motors for the second time and they advised that my vehicle/vin was not included on the recall. i also open a claim with the bbb (better business bureau) which contact gm once more and they call me and advised that i would not qualify for any reimbursement, not even under the power train warranty. i feel that the recall on the fuel pump leak should include my vin# [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Very strong fuel odor/fumes. leaking underneath. *tr

I started smell fuel and around 10/04/2012 i notice it was leaking fuel around the fuel tank. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. while parked, the contact noticed a fuel leak from under the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the technician stated that the fuel pump module would have to be replaced. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump) that could have been related to the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 93,000.

Gas leaking from fuel lines. fuel line and fuel pump come together so i had to replace the complete fuel pump at the cost of $961.58 some of the 2007 chevy equinox are under recall for fuel line leakage, but not this one according to gm. . i was wondering why. *tr

I just took my equinox to the chevy dealer today 7-10-2012 to have a gas leak repaired. i had been smelling raw fuel since feb. of this year. recently smell had worsened,so at work while enjoying my lunch in my vehicle, while putting my cigarette out, i smelled gas worse than ever. got flashlight and looked under truck to see a gas leak, which i thought to be coming from filler tube. anyway got call from dealer while writing this, he says he needs to drop the tank, leak is on top,oh yeah warranty won't cover. nice! 934$ later i just arrived home and repairman from chevy calls, says he's not sure he tightened gas tank straps. lol you've got to be kidding me,so i go back strap is fine and leak is stopped. its turns out to be the same problem 90% of us have had- fuel pump failure. my question at this point is if chevy does have to issue a recall, what about those of use who already had to get the repair? do we get notified? more importantly do we get reimbursed. *tr

Anytime we start the equinox up, all you smell is raw gasoline smell. it fills up the cabin, and gives me bad headaches. we had looked for obvious leaks but didn't see any at first. we weren't losing much if any gas mileage, until the last 2 tanks when it's gotten worse. my coworkers know when i get to work without seeing me because the fuel odor is so bad, they can smell me upon arrival. i have been having headaches frequently, and sometimes even feel nauseated. last monday was the first time, my husband was driving behind me in our other vehicle and he told me to pull over at the next gas station, because i was actually leaking fuel this time. i was scared to death, here i still had about 20-25 miles to drive before getting home, and yet i am like a traveling explosion waiting to happen. i researched monday night and found that there are tons of others in our same boat. this is a danger to us, and everyone else on the road when it gets ready to blow. gm needs to back up their products and do a mandatory recall before people get killed from their negligence. we like most of the people who have filed complaints have been quoted well over $1000-1800 to fix this problem. like most others, we are struggling for money, and now have one less vehicle we can drive, but still owe on it, so we're stuck. this is not right, what is it going to take, someone dying before gm will recall this??? *tr

Cracked fuel pump. gas leaking. extreme fire hazard. there was no single incident. it's my understanding there was a recall for these fuel pumps. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the vehicle emitted a strong fuel odor and leaked fuel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic whom inspected the vehicle and diagnose that the fuel pump cracked due to defective material. as a result, the fuel pump assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number:12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump). the approximate failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 98,000.

Extreme gasoline smell from right rear of vehicle. took vehicle to dealership and the replacement of the fuel pump module cost $998.47. we received a recall notice #12190 , submitted a claim and was denied due to the leak was on the discharge line instead of the vent line.the whole part is faulty and can cause a fire or serious injury. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while parked, a strong odor of gasoline fuel was noticeable outside of the vehicle. in addition, a small amount of fuel was visible on the ground. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number:12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the contact's vin was not included in the recall campaign. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis and the fuel tank module was replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 62,634. updated 02/26/13*lj

The vehicle has been smelling like gas after driving. the smell is in the car after driving, parking for a few and getting back in the car. i have yet to go get it checked but have only had it for 2years. i see that there are now over 200 of the same complains and i am not willing to put in $1700 into a practically new car. a recall is in order!! *tr

The gas tank/fuel pump began emitting a fuel odor in the summer of 2011. i thought that it was from recently filling the tank. it was a hot texas summer when this began to happen. the smell would come and go without reason. it did happen more often in the summer. this past winter, when having routine oil change and inspection, it was found that the fuel pump had a crack in it and that is where the gas odor was originating. it was under recall, but chevrolet keeps saying that our vin number had not come up. the mechanic replaced the fuel pump at nearly $900.00. chevrolet keeps denying our claim. it appears that it has denied many, many claims. we have received the original recall letter but they have not recalled my specific vehicle. i would think that something that they were aware of as far back as 2010 should be replaced and reimbursed within less than 6 months after you personally have it repaired. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while driving, the vehicle emitted a strong fuel odor. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the fuel failure. the dealer inspected the vehicle but was unable to locate the fuel failure. in addition, the sun-roof seal was defective and causing water to penetrate the interior of the vehicle. as a result, the interior light would not provide proper illumination. the dealer advised that the sun-roof could not be repaired and the interior lighting failure could have been caused by a faulty alternator. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 69,000 and current mileage was 78,000.

I have owned this vehicle since 2009 and have had multiple issues, recurring frequently. the 2 main concerns are stuck key in ignition and stabilitrack and electrical malfunctions. there is a definite issue with the ignition in these vehicles, not only does my key get stuck, it has also been knocked out when hitting a bump. i own a cobalt too that has been recalled and my equinox has the same issues with ignition this is dangerous and frustrating!! in addition, my stabilitrack has been serviced twice since i have owned. the electrical system goes crazy and lights up with airbag service, stabilitrack service and abs brake warnings. i just spent 600 on brakes and rotors and it still lights up. the car has been checked and none of these warnings are accurate. these lights come on and off randomly and have for years. the fuel gauge will rotate backwards. the oil indicator that tracks oil life resets itself at random. i am angry! these issues need addressed. are we not taken seriously because no one died? there are multiple complaints of the same nature as mine and yet no recall? sad that action is taken only after someone is killed! gm needs to do right by people who spend their hard earned money to purchase these vehicles. i have always been pro chevy but not anymore. their customer service and quality sucks. *js

i have noticed that finally there is a recall . i am saddened to see that unfortunately this recall is not included in florida. i just never knew that a big company would not care for the safety of the drivers and passengers! i do not have the money to fix it, and i am scared that something bad will happen while i am driving it in with children. i don't understand why my car is not being recalled. i feel it is unfair to only recall certain states when there are others like me in florida with this serious problem. this problem is very serious, it leaks gasoline!!!.peoples lives are at risk! will gm care when someone dies here in florida!. when i heard about the recall i was so happy, then called gm, only to be told i am not in the state for the recall, which is so unfair!!!!!!. i was also told if i felt it was serious, and scared that i should get it fixed and that they would reimburse me if the recall eventually affects my vehicle. i just felt the same cold shoulder i received when i complained to gm about my passenger airbag! . if something happens because of this it would be pretty sad that they could have helped people like me and my family. i feel like i need to let you know this is so serious. i don't want to have to hire a lawyer, call the news, just for gm to do what is the right thing to do for other states, like florida! i pray nothing bad happens and that it should not be only a few states, it should be the all vehicles with the problem for the recall, and florida is a very warm state. please thank you for listening and i do hope that all the other people like myself get this problem resolved from gm, for the safety of us and all other drivers in case of a serious accident! they should not wait for us in florida before its to late.
