Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the heat in her vehicle does not work. during routine maintenance, a mechanic stated that the bland door in the heater duct needs to be replaced and would cost $1000. there are no related recalls or existing vehicle warranties. the failure mileage 54,000.

Actuator door (air temp blend door) not allowing hot air in. this means no heat or defrost with cold months coming. apparently a defective part that gm will not acknowledge as such. gm needs to recall this car for repair!!! *tr

2006 chevy equinox. no events led up to failure i went to turn on my defrost one morning before gong to work and the heat did not work. the cost to correct the problem is b/w $1,000 and $1,500. problem has not been corrected yet as i do not have the funds at this time to fix car. will try to replace part myself. the blower works but it only puts out cold air. researched online and it seems alot of equinox owners have the same problem and says gm has redesigned part (temperature blend door actuator). gm had to realize a problem with the part design that caused it to fail, so why has no recall been issued. this is a major safety issue if you are unable to defrost your windows. poor visibility can and will result in an accident. gm needs to step up and correct the issue for their current owners. i am sure that many owners of this vehicle have children and if we have to transport them we will be placing them in a unsafe situation due to the inability to defrost windows in the winter, provide heat for them and even in the rain when the windows fog up how are you to clear the windows w/o the heating system working properly. i implore you to please investigate this problem and you will see many owners are having the same problem with their equinox and it is a safety concern! thank you! 2006 chevy equinox owner. *tr

Friday, october 23, 2009, our heat went out in our 2006 chevrolet equinox. it has approx 61,000 miles on it. this car has been taken care of and is in great shape otherwise. this should be a recall item as the car is fairly new and i have never had other vehicles with this problem. we own another chevrolet product and have no issues with it, this seems to be an engineering failure. a car heater should last more than 3 years. *tr

The door that separates the heater and the ac has snapped off leaving only ac on. unable to use the defroster. took it in to have it repaired at a cost of $811.00. replaced the door. i have the old door in my possession. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox. the heating system for the air conditioner was inoperative. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, and a technician concluded that the linkage fractured from the temperature actuator. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was provided. the failure and current mileages were 112,000. updated 12/7/09 *cn the consumer was unable to defrost the windows. also the drivers side window was stuck in the down position. updated 12/08/09.*jb

I have a 2006 equinox. the heat just completely gave out, only blowing cold air. i took it to have it repaired and not only did my entire dash have to be removed, but it was 7+ hours of labor and $1000+ of repair. it turned out to be that the actuator was defected, and the blend door was poorly constructed. while one end was properly intact, the other looked as if it had been chewed off. chevy suggested to the mechanic that he look for suspicious objects that may have caused the damage. nothing out of the ordinary was found. it seemed to be a complete defect of the manufacturer. after beginning my research, i am noticing that my vehicle is not the only one. it's amazing how gm's excuse is that, "cars mess up" but i am finding that several equinox are having the same issues. there should be a recall. *tr

I own a 2006 chevy equinox with 63000 miles on it. the blend door on the heater coil assembly broke causing my heater to stop blowing warm air. i had to have it repaired and total cost was $1079.60 as there is no service panel to access this area and the entire dashboard had to be removed in order for it to be repaired. i was told the exact same part, that apparently is defective, has not been redesigned and they had to put this same part in with no guarantee it will not break again. the broken door is about the size of a business envelope and is a piece of plastic lined with foam stripping. now i am terrified to even use the heater asi live in ohio and cannot drive my car in the winter without heat to clear the windshield. as i am past my warranty, i understand that gm is doing nothing to assist equinox owners with this problem. *tr

I "tried" to turn on the heater to help defog my windshield during a rain storm, only to discover the heater was blowing cold air. because of the cold air, my windshield fogged up even more! this created a viability issue, and nearly resulted in a traffic accident as i attempted to exit the i-17 today (10/12/2009) i was informed by the repair shop i took my vehicle to (2006 chevrolet equinox) that the hvac air temperature blend door assembly failed. i have been informed by my repair shop and 2 chevrolet dealerships that gm has redesigned this assembly to correct the issue, and have issued a service bulletin, however they have yet to issue a recall. my repair shop is currently replacing the air temperature blend door assembly. i was quoted that this is a 9.5 hour procedure because they have to disable the dash to gain access to the assembly. if my vehicle was not under warranty, this would be a roughly a $1,200 - $1,500 repair. *tr

The air blend door on my 2006 chevrolet equinox is broken and will not blow warm air from the heater. i can not defrost my windows. this car is only 3 years old and i have found tons of people with the same problem. *tr

My 2006 chevy equinox heater has stopped working. it only blows cold air. this is a safety problem because without a heater to defrost the windshield visibility is completely obstructed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox. the actuator for the heat blows out cold air. the dealer stated it will cost $1,300 to replace the actuator for the heater. since there were no recalls or warranty on the vehicle he was ineligible for a free remedy. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired at the dealer. the failure mileage was 34,000. the vehicle identification number was unavailable.

The heater has gone out. the problem lies in the heater blend door and many others have the same problem. the problem is that the car can no longer properly defrost which is exactly what i need to do here i idaho. *tr

Car stopped blowing hot air, dealer wanted upwards of $1500 to fix. i traded the car as it was too expensive a repair based on the worth and age of the vehicle. *tr

I have chevy equinox 2006 and it have 63 thousand miles on it and my heater stop working and i went to the website and come to find out that some people are having the same problem with the blend door and i took it to the shop and they advise me that is what is wrong with my truck and i do not have $1200 hundreds dollars to fix it and it is getting cold where i live in maryland .there is a problem with these trucks and it should be a (recall) on them i will be calling the gmc customer service . *tr

2006 chevy equinox blows cold air. blend door/actuator problem which cost over 1,000 to fix (entire dash needs to come off to replace $78 item). chevy customer service says not aware of any problems, even though 120 people have responded over the last month at the following web site, alone: http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/chevrolet-equinox/tnmhvcte76u9hgth4 we all feel this is a definite safety issue, since people all over us and canada are soon to be transporting babies and small children in these vehicles through the winter cold. hope this is enough to raise a concern somewhere. *tr gerry higgins

Blend door on 2006 chevy equinox broke and now i have no heat and can not see out my window due to my defrosters not being able to work. *tr

2006 equinox only blowing out extremely cold air for the defroster and the heater. *tr

Heater will only blow cold air on my 2006 equinox. this is a safety issue since i cannot defrost my windshield. i understand that this is a problem with many chevy owner. please chevy be responsible for you products. *tr

2006 chevy equinox heater blend door shaft broken and no heat is coming out. dealer wants $1100 to fix it, cannot afford it. i agree, gm should recall, safety hazard when you cannot see out of the windows. *tr

Heater blowing only cold air. unsafe for my 4 year old and 6 month baby to be in the cold weather without heat. also unsafe because the front windshield cannot be effectively defrosted in cold weather and leads to poor visibility. took to dealership and the temperature blend door actuator is broken. replaced the temperature blend door. my warranty has expired so i paid $1070.00 out of my pocket to have this repaired. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox. the windows did not defrost since only cold air circulated throughout the vehicle which caused his visibility to be impaired. a mechanic concluded that the air temperature door was broken. the failure mileage was 32,600 and the current mileage was 32,700.

The blend door broke in the hvac case. there was nothing that caused this, though my mechanic said this is caused by the heat being run through at too high a temperature. *tr

2006 equinox with 32,000 miles. no heat. dealer said control was bad, replaced that then said the blend door was also bad. had to replace that also. these are very expensive repairs for a 3 yr old car, just out of warranty by a couple of months. *tr

The heater core was replaced on my 2006 chevy equinox in april of 2009 at 29,000 miles. it now needs replaced again in october 2012 at 57,500 miles. the first time it was under warranty and was no cost to me. but now it needs replaced, again at $1100+ (dealer estimate). after a weeklong battle with gm, they offered me a 50% cost share. this should not be happening at 29,000 and again at 57,500!! it has got to be some sort of design flaw. it is obviously a known defect (due to all of the complaints), but they refuse to recall!! *tr

The heater in my 2006 chevy equinox does not work. it only blows cold air and the repairs are in upwards of $1200. without heat, the windows can fog up very quickly leaving me unable to see while driving, thus causing a huge safety hazard for me and others on the road. it is winter and temperatures in my area reach as low as 20 degrees, with children, this is also a safety issue. it is necessary to keep them safe and warm. it seems from others responses that this is an astronomical issue with many chevy equinox owners and we are all outraged at the lack of concern from gm to recall this issue. nothing is more important than safety with all companies, gm should not turn the other cheek to this hazard. it is better to be safe than sorry and from the people having issues, it seems a recall is past due. *tr

I have a 2006 chevrolet equinox. the heat has worked fine up until march 14. the dealer took it and said it was the heat door actuator. the shaft had broken and they replaced it. *tr

Vehicle no longer blows hot air when heat is on therefore the defroster will not blow hot air as well. this is a safety hazard! if windows are fogged or iced during inclement weather you can not see and could cause an accident resulting in fatalities. i found over 500 complaints about the same problem on the internet. problem seems to be with a plastic temperature door valve (temperature blend door) that is broken. according to other customer complaints and the service dept manager at our local gm dealer, the cost to replace the faulty part is around $1300 for $50-$80 metal part. furthermore, by replacing the plastic part previously used to a metal part in the newer vehicles clearly suggest gm knew there was a problem with the crappy plastic part previously installed. this is a safety hazard and gm need to step to the plate and recall this item before someone is killed. my wife already damaged the car and took out a mailbox due to reduce visibility. *tr

2006 chevy equinox. heater started blowing cold air. took it to a mechanic and it was the air temperature blend door. many others have had this same issue. *tr

I have a 2006 chevrolet equinox that has a defective blend door that broke at the shaft connected to the hvac actuator. this causes the heater to blow only cold air and the defrost will not work because warm air is blocked by the defective part. i have a one year old son and this proved very dangerous for us because of both lack of heat and inability to properly defrost the drivers windshield. when the temperature drops in cold frosting situations it is hazardous for me to drive. the part can be fixed but the cost will be $1,000.00+ to replace the part. *tr

Tl - the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox . the contact stated the defroster on his vehicle was defective. he mentioned that when he tried to put it on, it would not blow hot air and it impaired his visibility. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed a faulty temperature actuator blendor nob and had to be replace. the manufacturer was contacted who did not offered any assistance. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage 40,000 and current mileage was 58,000. pm

I have a 2006 chevrolet equinox that has a broken "heater blender door". approximately 1 year ago my heater just stopped working without any warning. i took it to a mechanic and they wanted $1,000+ to fix it. they said the whole dash assembly has to be removed to get to the hvac box under the dash to access the part (heater blender door). this winter i have not been able to defrost my windshield because there is no heat to defrost it. when it rains the windows fog up and i cannot see. i was told by the mechanic to use the air conditioner to defrost the windshield but it doesn't work it just makes it worse. also using the ac doesn't work when it's 32 degrees outside. i believe this is a big safety issue because the windshield cannot be defrosted which causes poor visibility and may cause an accident. this vehicle should be recalled and repaired asap. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 15 mph without warning the vehicle heater failed and began blowing cold air. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer; however, the contact stated that the failure was related to the heather valve door and the heater valve door. the dashboard will need to be removed at an approximate cost of $1,500. the failure and current mileages were 59,000.

Nothing special done, blend door just broke, therefore we have no heater or defroster. cannot drive car when it is cold and defroster is needed outside. was told by a gm dealership $1200 just for labor. i think this should be recalled. there are probably thousands of these complaints online i have read. *tr

This vehicle blows out cold air when the heat is on. it does not defrost and take close to 30 minutes to come to a tolerable heat temperature. i spent 500.00 trying to repair this issue and it still does not work. *tr

My blend door also broke from deep inside the dash causing the heat setting to blow only cold air and i am unable to defog windshield. since purchase the vehicle has had difficulty starting. sometimes it starts up on the first try and other times i have to pump the gas in order to get vehicle to start. both of these problems are consistent with other vehicle owner complaints. *tr

I had to pay $700 to have a door in my heater replaced because my warranty had ran out this problem is happening a lot and now they are placing metal doors in the heater instead of plastic so why hasn't this been recalled? i think i should be refunded my money since they figured out it is a malfunction of theirs. my seat belt also got stuck where my child's car seat sits so i had to get a new one put in. my interior lights also have a short in them. *tw

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the heating system malfunctioned causing the front windshield to fog and impair her vision. the dealer was notified, but offered no assistance. the manufacturer was aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the current mileage was approximately 57,000. the failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

Hot air does not come through vents, and therefore vehicles windshield is not able to defrost when it is cold. this cause low visibility, which can thereby cause an accident. *tr

The car was parked from tuesday 8/19 until 8/23 due to tropical storm fay. on 8/24, the floorboards were soaking wet from under the dashboard to under the back seat; push on the carpet and water would just well up. the parking lot was not flooded, the windows rolled up; the seats were dry, as was all of the inside panels; so i'm not sure where the water came from. i've called chevy, they are sending me to a dealership for repairs and cleaning, as the vehicle is still under warranty. this is the first time this has occurred, i brought it with me from nevada when i moved. it has been driven through heavy rains, although never a tropical storm, and i hadn't noticed any leaking before. it did damage several items that were on the floor, and it is very musty in the car now. *tr

Went through the car wash and when the top was being cleaned, water started pouring in through the overhead front reading lights and the passenger side floorboards. thought sunroof got left open but it was fully closed. have not yet taken to the dealership but will this weekend. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox. when water made contact with the transmission the vehicle lost power. the contact was unable to accelerate to the normal speed. the dealer confirmed that whenever water entered the transmissions protection shield it caused the vehicles speed to decrease. the dealer will replace the transmission shield. the estimated repair cost was $570.00. the contact is also unable to defrost the windshield since the heater motor failed to operate normally. a complaint regarding the failure was filed with the manufacturer. the manufacturer stated the warranty expired; therefore, they will not assist with the repairs. the failure and the current mileages were 66,537.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox. the heating and cooling system only circulates cold air. the vehicle has not been taken to the dealer for inspection. the failure mileage was 55000. the current mileage was 63989.

The heater in my equinox went out at about 45,000-50,000 miles. i was unable to defrost my window and driving conditions were dangerous not only to me but also to other drivers. i was able to get the part fixed after about 1 year of driving with no heat. it cost me $1,035 and of course happened not too long after my warranty had expired. *tr

Chevrolet 2006 equinox - no heat/defrost - broken blend door windows fogging. *tr

My car continues to overheat. i had the radiator flushed and new fluids put in a new thermostat put in but it continued to over heat. when i took it in to have it look at (van dorn auto), i was told that the cooling fans are not working. the mechanical shop (van dorn auto) called the dealer and was told by the chevy dealer that they were having problems with the fans because of the sizing and that they will have to order a different size to send to van dorn auto to be replaced in my vehicle. when i called for a recall they told me there was no recall. how can that be if the original parts have to be resized to fix the problem. 2nd issue the windows operated like they are off track when it rains. this has been since i purchased the car new in 2006. every time i go to the dealer, they try to get me to replace the part but they wont offer any discounts. this is a problem with the manufacture and i don't feel i should have to pay for it to be fixed. *kb

No heat, can't defrost windshield to drive and see safely.
