Ever since owning the cruze, we've had nothing but engine issues. first the turbo went out a month after purchasing the car. two thermostats and a complete oil flush. the engine blew at 104,023 miles. the car was flashing engine light and stabiltract light. the car since owning has made a very loud ticking noise. the car also had a hard time maintaining speed. acceleration and deceleration. this happened any time the vehicle speed was over 30mph.
No warning turbo failure that cases vehicle to lose power suddenly i was on freeway when engine light came on and a engine power reduced warning came on went to auto zone and they said it was a p0299 have seen a lot of info on the internet net saying that the turbo has gone out this is bad when your at freeway speeds
Upon leaving a store the car began to slow down as the front passenger side wheel began to wobble. i pulled into a parking lot, stopped then reversed slowly then pulled forward slowly when a patron exiting the store said stop. once i exited my car i noticed the passenger front wheel seemed dislocated from the vehicle. then transmission fluid begin to leak from the under the car of the dislocated wheel. in the pictures the car is parked straight but front passenger side wheel is turned outward.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet cruze. the contact stated that the vehicle would not drive while in the reverse position and the vehicle jerked and vibrated when switching gears. the vehicle was towed to quincy chevrolet (2039 west jefferson st, quincy, fl), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 9-5538517686. the failure mileage was 22,000.
The turbo charger is known for going out. this can cause loss of power- even on highways. my turbo lost power on the highway, causing my speed to drop down to 50 mph. i am in a lot of chevy cruze forums and this is the main complaint. your speed can be normal and then all of a sudden just drop down to barely anything. this could cause someone to rear-end you.
My vehicle for the last year has been having some engine issues where it will lock up on me i can't get my key out of the ignition and all the lights will start going off saying it needs service and then it will stop and go back to the regular odometer. i've kept up with my oil changes i've kept up with any service that needs to be done on my vehicle but today my engine completely shut down when i started to run my air conditioning. usually i can get under the hood and wiggle some wires and then things will go back to the way that it was but lately my car has been shutting off on me while i'm driving and i had a service appointment for next week to go and see a professional to get under the hood to see what was going on i figured it was probably just another oil change it is about that time, but i was on my way to a friend's wedding and i had to stop and when i stop my car did not cut back on i pop the hood and wiggled some wires like i usually do but there was no activity whatsoever underneath the hood. i started thinking to myself maybe i should put some oil in it but i don't want to ruin my engine and i started thinking maybe i need some antifreeze but again and i'm not a mechanic so i don't want to assume and then do something to make things a lot worse but today my engine completely shut down on me and i had to wait in the heat for over an hour to get a jump.
I was checking a lot of the stats online for the 2014 chevy cruze and there were already reports out safety reports that there were some issues with the vehicles ignition and power steering and there were numbers and codes and i'm a bit upset because they sold me this vehicle knowing that there was some things that were wrong with the vehicle and that could have been my safety at risk while i'm driving on the road and the engine just shuts down the way it's been doing.
Problem no.1, my cruze has lost power, the heater puts out cold air, the radiator is losing fluid, the engine has started to over heat, and there is wet spot under the exhaust pipe when i idle the engine! that means my car has ether a blowen head gasket or cracked head! the car has less then 85,000 miles and if the head is cracked, i think i know why because gm decked the block the short-way center out to the ends! witch can leave a valley in the center of the block! they made the same mistake with the grand am quad-4! the head all cracked between cylinders 2 and 3 because the block wasn't decked square! i have to take it to the dealer on sat 12/29/18 wish someone would check the block, i know the dealer will try to blame my and to make me pay for some or all of it, even though it is sill under warranty! problem no.2, i purchased a new chevy cruze eco with a manual transmission 4 years ago, i got it because i wanted a high mpg car and i have been driving standard transmission since i started driving and i knew i could better mileage then rated (65.5 mpg my best score!), but the shifter has to much slop in it, i had a cutlass with a hurst shifter that was 16 inches tall and used that had less slop! i have complained to dealer about it since the day i got car! three times i have put the transmission in both first and third gear at the same time! i can't tell you how many time i have missed the shift while still holding all the way in position! if i am in a hurry i can't find the gear at all! problem no.3, the hydraulic throw-out bearing is slushy and slow. because the master-cylinder and feed-line is to small! i am a fast shifter, and i can out shift the clutch! that is bad because the pressure plate doesn't close fast enough it causes excess ware and burning of the clutch!
Stabilitrak vendor keeps coming on. when i'm driving and make a turn, my car seems as if it's gliding. my breaks skip, especially when hitting a bump and they act as if they don't want to stop. my car cuts on and off in traffic, i've almost died several times while turnning. completely shuts off, steering wheel locks up and all. my car is now wrecked due to these defects. it was raining, i was turning, car got to gliding and sliding, breaks went out and my car lost control! i almost flipped! i just bought the car! pictures in my phone
60,000 miles the transmission lines started leaking,at 61,000 miles a head gasket went out.it was in my driveway when i noticed everything.
Vehicle was taken into gm dealer (larkin-cobb) chevrolet because it was leaking coolant. had to add coolant to reservoir at least once a week. dealer found a small valve dripping on the engine and replaced it. the vehicle was under remaining powertrain warranty at the time of complaint/issue. the vehicle continued to leak after said repair and was brought back to dealer 2 more times and dye test was done and they said they could not find the problem. on the third time the vehicle was taken back again with the same issue..loss of coolant. the dealer and gm warranty now want to charge me for cylinder head removal and head gasket replacement. i contended that the car was under warranty at the time of initial repair and the issue was not resolved and should still be fixed under powertrain warranty. gm warranty rep said no...the "date" had expired. now i have no choice but to pay for repairs that should have been covered under powertrain warranty..and gm wont "own" up to its warranty. cant just take the vehicle back because it was setting off "high temperature" code when at idle and also moving. after researching..these chevrolet cruzes have a very bad history of cooling problems...including water pump, turbo seals, and blown head gaskets. gm should honor thier warrantys and fix the engine and cooling problems with this car.in my opinion, any cooling problem should be fixed because it is badly engineered.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet cruze. while driving 75 mph, the vehicle downshifted while stalling. the vehicle completely shut off and the "reducing power" and "diesel shutting off" warning indicators illuminated. the contact restarted the vehicle, but the failure recurred. the contact placed the vehicle in neutral while it was downshifting. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 97,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet cruze. while driving 35 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to o'conner auto park (199 riverside dr, augusta, me 04330. 207-622-3191) and repaired per an unknown nhtsa campaign number. the contact stated that the recall repair failed to remedy the failure as the check engine warning indicator remained illuminated. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 63,931. *tt consumer received a recall for catalytic converter failure. check engine light came back on soon after. emissions is under warranty for 150,000 miles or until 2029 which come first. updated *jb
While driving on the freeway, the engine started revving extremely high regardless of the gear i was in. we safely got our selves off the freeway and in to regular street traffic. after coasting off the ramp into traffic, i was able to put it in 1st and drive about. 3 miles. we stopped for a stop light in the center lane on a slight incline. and then the clutch had completely failed. when i tried to move i first, the car revved but rolled backward. no previous warning signs. the issue isn't the clutch failure, but the low milage of the clutch failure, 67000. we were told it's due to wear and tear, but that's concerning to experience this issue at a relatively low mileage.
Unfortunately, this is the 3rd time that my 2014 chevy cruze has this issue. my engine light stays on while the stabilock service flashes on the dashboard; car jerks while either idle and/or stopped; a loud squeaking noise from under the hood (all these issues always start at the same time!!). i have taken my car to chevy dealerships and they have (supposedly) replaced the same part - sham cover (according to my invoices). i totally don't get why this is a not a recall issue. it is very frustrating to take my car in for the same issue, and of course, now that the warranty has expired, i'm sure it will be even more costly.... which i really think it will be the same thing! (of course, i'm not a mechanic, but if i'm taking my car in for the same reason and they diagnose it and repair that same part; i'm beginning to wonder.... why even charge me for a diagnostic test when your chances are it's the same issue!!) is this a part that only last a maximum of so many miles? i purchased the car in 3/2015; and the 1st time i received service for this issue was 6/29/2015, and then again 2/24/2017. i'm so confused!!! :( come on gm ~ help us out please!!
Vehicle hesitates when merging onto highway traffic. this began happening after i owned the car for more than 3 years without similar incidents. its dangerous because just when you need power to merge, the power dips instead which is potentially likely to end in being rear-ended. vehicle was taken to the chevy dealership where it was purchased. they kept it four days and stated they could find nothing wrong because they found no codes. they state it might be due to "turbo lag" which is normal. it is not normal as i have owned the car almost 4 years before this began happening.
Car was stolen left front end was damage. paid 2500 for repair. pick up car 07/27/2018. the was in the shop 03/2018. they the car back to me no air bags. no front for cover on the sterring wheel. they want to pay another 279.00 for air bags. now their a sound coming from under the car. i just don't have extra money insurance did pay off because i was not driving the car. the car do drive the same it keep cutting off. the speed is 20 to 40 it wontt go any higher and the engine is not shutting off. the is trying to zoom fast on its on. iam really scare.
While trying to merge into traffic my vehicle engine speeds up to 7000 rpm but the car only gets up to about 28 mph. i have almost been rear ended because of this. also i tried to pass other cars at first the car seemed as it had the power to pass but as i got at the side of the car i was passing with pedal on floor the transmission seemed to lose power and dog down. almost causing me a head on collision . on the highway my car doesn't seem to have the power to pass cars unless going down hill. the cars engine speeds up but the transmission do not speed up so it just burns more gas. that i can not afford on disability.on june 8 2018 i took the car back to weimer chevrolet in moorefield, wv, they told me everything was fine gave me a copy of the vehicle inspection they done. other cruze owners said they have the same problem i told them to call gm themselves to let them know of this problem. i spoke to a miguel at gm at customer service, he told me that a manager would be in touch with me .on june 26 2018, a gm manager called my cell phone and asked for my address , and a brief explanation of the cars issues e-mail address and the dealer info. i then on june 28 i got a email from a courtney at gm stating that they have been unable to contact me. even though they have my home / cell numbers. and that if this matter is resolved do nothing but if not to call them, i tried to and got no answer so also sent a reply to their e-mail, stating that this matter has not been resolved and how dangerous these cars are. once again no response from gm as of july 17. i feel as though gm does not care about my families or my safety in this matter with their lack of response . i 'm not sure how many others have reported to gm with their issues but i know mine is falling through the cracks. so if you can please help with ...
After the vehicle started with clutch fully depressed, i put the car into 1st gear it lunged forward about an inch and now it will not engage in any gear. car only has 53,000 miles on it. i can let the clutch out completely while in gear and let off the break and there seems to be almost a grinding while depressing the clutch, then i have the clutch fully let out and the car goes nowhere.
Engine oil cooler failure. housing is leaking on outside of the engine block that part is bolted to. not sure when leak started and if the vehicle was moving or stationary. this part was covered on 2011 and 2012 model but written out of warranty for 2013 and later models. dealership keep inventory on this part due to frequent replacement needs. chevrolet knew the part has problems instead of repairing the issue with the part they have removed it from powertrain warranty even though it is part of the powertrain. this repair cost over one thousand dollars on vehicles that are still under powertrain warranty. the water pump has special coverage adjustment ( https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs/download/doc/ucm507379/sb-10057265-3557.pdf). i believe the issue with the oil cooler is very similar to the water pump issue. going through chevrolet cruze talk forum and reading issue after issue online further shows mine is not an isolated incident.
The turbo/ super charger underboost has malfunctioned and is causing a significant repair cost.
Takara recall my 14 chevy cruze turbo when out, there is a recall on some of the 14 chevy cruze but the cut off date was in march and my car was manufactured in june. car has totaled loss of power and starting to smell oil burning
While driving trying to accelerate cars hesitates than drives normally dealer claims car is fine was check by their mechanic before being sold. when driving on freeway to change lanes car hesitates when trying to accelerate. feels like power is delayed.

Transmission failed (3rd gear not working) on april 7,2017. car had 70,384 miles at time of failure. car has a transferable 5yr/100,000 powertrain warranty. because the initial failure was diagnosed by my local licensed repair facility, gm will not honor powertrain warranty until it was verified by a authorized chevrolet dealership. that verification was performed today, may 30, 2017... vehicle currently has 74,000+/- miles. when i spoke by phone with gm customer service on april 24,2017, gm assigned a chase file and said that upon verification of the failure by an authorized chevrolet dealer, they (gm) would work with me to determine a level of monetary participation for the repair. i called gm today, upon word from the chevy dealer that they did indeed verify the failure of the transmissions 3rd gear. now, gm informs me that they will not honor the warranty and all costs must be covered by the vehicle owner. this is not right. i am attaching a file of the receipt from the initial evaluation performed at my local repair shop.
I have have to have a pcv value cover/intake manifold replaced in my car 3 times. my car is covered under warranty but that warranty will expire. i will have to have is replaced again at some and it seems that no one is asking why this part has to be replaced so frequently in a car that is less than 5 year old. there is a code that appears but it is months after the car starts to surge when you turn it on and feel like it is going to cut out when idling. i live in the city and cannot hesitate to drive when the light turns as it may cause an accident.
On 7/28/16 this manual transmission car would not go into reverse. a local chevy dealership replaced the shift cable to solve the problem. on 9/28/16, the car again would not go into reverse. the shift cable was replaced again. a few days later, no reverse. when checked out again, reverse worked! now this past week, it wouldn't shift into 3rd, 4th, or 5th gears while driving. while in 3rd, 4th or 5th gear, the tach rpm was jumping all over the dial.the car could only be driven in 2nd gear doing 15mph on a 50mph road. it subsequently stalled out. a day later it did not shift into any gear.car back at dealership. phone call reference # 1068173.
The car turns off while i am driving, no matter where i have had it turn off on the expressway and street while in drive and at times it the rpm idles while im at the stop like and parked. i have contacted chevy but they didn't want to honor the powertrain warranty and i was not to told not to come back to ron craft chevy. so i took it to miller auto body and repair, here in houston, they recommend that i replace the engine cover i did out of my own pocket even though its was supposed to be honored at the chevy dealership under powertrain. i still continue to drive the car but it still losses power and turns off while im driving. last night the battery died, i replaced it with a new today but the car still shuts down and stops while i'm driving. i don't know what to do and why this is happening and why chevy isn't honoring the powertrain warranty on the faulty engine components, the stability track stays and the check engine lights stays on and a traction lights stays on. i have done regular maintenance on this car every since i bought it, every maintenance inspections were all done by chevy, i just don't under stand why they play dumb when honoring my powertrain warranty. *tr
The vehicle's def sensor went bad, resulting in the vehicle entering "limp mode" after 100 miles. as this vehicle is diesel, it is used to commute long distances (100 miles each way.) this caused the vehicle to not be capable of driving a safe speed on the highway. this vehicle is less than 2 years old, no sensors should be going bad after two years. the "fix" provided by the manufacturer is to replace the whole def tank with a new updated tank (including sensor) and an accompanying module. as i drive relatively long distances, my warranty is up, resulting in this "fix" to come out of my pocket. after reviewing many online forums, it appears that this is a common issue.

My car loses acceleration when driving. it almost stops in the middle of the street. i am trying to go but when i put my foot on the gas it doesn't go. i hear something underneath when i try to put my put on the gas.
Transmission downshifting harshly from 4-3 then 3-2. throws you forward and i feel like i have whiplash from it. took it to chevy dealer twice and they said its fine. it is not fine.

I bought a 2014 chevy cruze last year. 2 days ago the 'service stabilitrak' light came on and the car started hesitating and jerking. we took it in the next day for service and they told us that there may be a recall pending, but because the light had gone back off they wouldn't do anything about it. i am afraid of this happening again while in traffic, and im not sure what to do next. they need to do a recall asap on this system before someone is injured. we feel very unsafe with this issue possibly happening again, but the dealer will not do anything unless it does happen again.

On april 21 2015, right rear brake was squealing took to dealership and they cleaned and adjusted rear brakes. car had 21804 miles at the time. on may 10, 2016 took car back to the dealership had 559990 miles the car started to over heat. the water pump was leaking and they replaced the pump. back to the dealership on may 31, 2016 57300 miles check engine light was on and car had a miss. it had a leading valve cover and intake manifold.
Looses power when sitting at light, doesn't quite shut off, constant belt squealing, engine light coming on, taken back to dealership on 3/21/15 because the engine light came back on, belt still squealing, engine still hesitating and losing power. dealership replaced knock sensor and drive belt tensioner. taken back on april 3, squealing still, making a loud sound when you turn the car off, still having hesitation problems. dealership replaced water pump and harmonic balancer. taken back again, still hesitating, dying down in power still, making sound when you shut the engine off still. taken back again, replaced seal in engine that was being sucked into intake. still having problems with hesitation, power dying down and no pick up or acceleration.
I currently own a 2014 chevrolet cruze ls that i have owned for a year with 59,000 miles. in this vehicle i have been experiencing power loss while accelerating on interstate, transmission disengages and reengages and jerks very hard while trying to accelerate. it will not accelerate more than 45 mph on interstate. it will then operate normally after about 5-10 miles after transmission disengages and reengages. also has no power or acceleration while a/c is on.
Can't remove key when car is in park. two different times now. also car with 900 miles on it failed to start and key was stuck this time also. tow truck driver called, he also could not remove key. checked car for anything left on, found nothing. jumped car, it started, he moved the shifter lever roughly several times, key came out. told us not to turn car off and take it to dealership. driver thought battery was bad also. took car in. they kept car three days. were told twice by service man battery had a bad cell. when called to pick up car, service told us we must have left something on. that nothing was wrong. and we must not have shifter in park. left dealership, no battery replaced, no real answer to why key didn't come out. did not even put car on a charger to get battery back to 100%. *tr

I found a white metallic gunk on driveway. i went to investigate for leakage, after dealer had one week ahead appointment available. i found rust on the welds of the muffler, rust on the hanger rods for the muffler, rust on nuts and bolts throughout the under carriage, rust on metal parts of the drive shaft, rust on the back tire trims, rust on the engine block, rust on the suspension, rust on the shocks, and the list goes on, on the many more parts of the under carriage. not just rust but corrosive rusting, that just didn't start over the last three weeks. dealer had to fail to put car up on rack upon receiving from chevrolet, and failed before handing it. this type of rusting happens only after maybe three years or more at least according to people i've shown the photos to, who know cars. dealership has a gm expert coming in to expect the car. feel very unsafe driving this car. *tr
2014 chevrolet cruze. consumer writes in regards to front axle right half shaft fracture recall replacement parts issue. *smd the consumer received the recall notice in may 2014. however, the axle wasn't replaced until august 2014. the consumer stated the dealer shouldn't have allowed her to continue to drive the vehicle. on october 16, 2014 another dealer found the right front axle outer cv boo leaking, throwing grease on the right front brake. causing the brake to become contaminated and difficult to grab. the right front axle shaft assembly and front brake pads were replaced. *jb
After purchasing the 2014 cruze on july 29, 2014, i drove it to my residence which was for 6 miles and parked in my driveway. i placed the shift level in the park position and set the emergency brake. my grand daughter, age 16, asked if she could test drive the car. after entering the vehicle, she released the emergency brake and attempted to start it. the car would not start and unknown to her while attempting to start, the vehicle slowly went backwards into the street. the shift lever in the vehicle was stuck in park and would not move and it would not start. i called on star and asked them to run a test on the car to see what was wrong with it. the lady came back with no known problems from their test. i asked and she called a tow truck to return the vehicle to the dealer. the cruze was repaired the next day. the problem was identified with a defective shift cable. the casing around the shift cable at the transmission cracked causing cable not to release leaving transmission in free mode. i was upset and angry with the dealership and gm because the vehicle broke down in the first 6 miles. i then checked for recalls on the vehicle and found gm recall number 14048 and nhtsa recall 14v092, which identified my defect exactly, but did not include my vin in the recall order. i called gm and expressed my concerns they assigned a case number and a very nice lady called and asked what would make me happy. my main concern was the safety of my family and other people who have bought the cruze with a defective shift lever cable. once a part is identified as defective it should no longer be used and it should be replaced on all manufactured vehicles. i was offered a replacement vehicle by the dealership and gm but i declined the offer. *tr
