Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2012 Chevrolet Cruze

After stopping at a stop sign, i attempted to proceed thru the intersection when the car starting missing and then stopped and would not start. car was towed to progressive chevrolet and they replaced the fuel pump control module. this is what they thought was the problem and it was not. i will open separate complaints for each incident with the car. *tr

8/6/13-the trunk release switch does not work. diagnosis was faulty trunk release switch, the technician replaced it. hvac blower motor is noisy and rattles can be heard inside and outside of the car. also had intermittent delay when turning hvac on. technician replaced the blower motor. could not find reason for delay. 1/22/14 - hvac burning smell when running heat. technician replaced hvac case with new design grease on it. filled coolant. 7/24/14- same thing happened to trunk release was replaced again. outside temperature sensor did not work, it was replaced. the vent in car for blow tab broke off, it was replaced. *tr

I am having problems with the electrical inside my car cutting in and out, all electrical turns off. service checks come across dashboard for power steering, stability check control, and traction control. the power steering has stopped working at times as well. i am not sure but if you are turning it appears that the turn signals stop working from inside the vehicle. headlights are dimmer than normal when it cuts in and out, it flickers with the shortages. i have taken it to the dealership three times now. the first time they tightened a ground wire, the second time they couldn't find a problem, third time they replaced the engine control module, and now i'm taking it back a fourth time to have the body control module replaced. this problem continues to get worse. *tr

The trunk release switch that is located on the trunk of the vehicle does not work. the only way to open the trunk is by using the keyless entry remote. though this does not pose a direct threat to safety it is extremely inconvenient due to the need for the key just to open an unlocked vehicles trunk. i purchased the vehicle only being one year old with 50,000 miles (so the warranty is out) and the dealership says that they can't do anything unless i pay full price. *tr

While driving on ortega highway which is a two lane highway and is a connector road from inland empire to orange county with narrow lanes running thru cleveland national forest, i was driving with the flow of traffic and the car suddenly shut off, steering wheel locked, various computer panel lights started flashing and the car became uncontrollable to the point where it almost went over cliff. this was the most horrific experience and lucky to be alive. i have contacted gm directly and will contact the media in the event i receive no resolution. the car is a safety hazard at this point and not drivable. sadly i just purchased the car in march of this year. i refuse to be stuck with this car that i completely lost trust to drive with myself let alone with my children. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph over a pothole, the vehicle stalled and hit a curb. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximately failure mileage was unavailable.

While driving my new chevy cruze i have noticed that once in a while i will go to accelerate and the car will not go. i'll get to about 20mph and it's like the car doesn't know i'm pushing the pedal to accelerate. i can tell that is getting gas and that it's not the transmission because it doesn't make a sound. it just stops at about 20mph and doesn't go any further until i put the pedal down further, doesn't go, then a little more then it suddenly accelerates and jerks because i have the pedal down so far. i've seen other complaints on the website and i believe it is due to a faulty tsp sensor. my dealer cannot find the issue because they can not make it reoccur and the check engine light does not go on. the last incident that happened while i was merging on to i-55 south and as i was merging my car would not accelerate with a line of cars behind me and a line of cars on my left. very scary. when i asked my dealer what happens when i get into an accident because of this i was just told i hope that doesn't happen and when it happens again to bring it back. *tr

2012 chevrolet cruze. consumer stated the vehicle would power off, and ignition would not turn or keys could not be removed. *ss the consumer stated the vehicle would spontaneously shut down while driving for no apparent reason. when the vehicle shut down, she was unable to turn the ignition or remove the key. nothing in the vehicle worked, when the vehicle shut down. after 20 minutes, she was finally able to start the vehicle. after driving 100 feet, the vehicle would shut off again. the dealer examined the vehicle, but was unable to diagnose the problem. the consumer continued to experience the same problem. the consumer decided to sell the vehicle. *jb *tr

Strong odor of coolant entering the interior of car when heater is used. becomes stronger if window is open while driving . odor is not present when at standstill. open opening hood with engine off odor can be sensed near the water pump area. dealer replaced water pump a week ago to remedy the problem. the vehicle has 28 k on it. *tr

Since march 30, 2015, i have been experiencing issues with and i have video evidence while in failure mode, of what i believe to be failures of the body computer(s) in this vehicle. the dashboard displays have been going on and off under a wide variety of driving situations, and while sitting at idle. they fault when the vehicle is simply driving down the highway. during these faults, the center information display for the hvac and entertainment will frequently turn off. this kills the radio. it at times kills the hvac systems and the turn signals (at least the noise for the turn signal indicators). at times, the center display above the steering column will go black and then display a message about the stabilitrak having failed and requiring it to be checked. then it returns to normal mode. this is less frequent an occurrence. while driving on the highway under cruise control, the vehicle experienced one incident of unintended acceleration while the displays were in fault modes. this occurred on april 1, 2015 i believe. the driver's feet were on the floorboards. not touching any pedals at all. the incident was stopped by the driver firmly pressing down on the brake pedal. when sufficient video evidence is accumulated on these failures the vehicle will be taken into the dealership. lacking actual demonstrative evidence of the failures, the dealership will not be able to know what to repair or replace. the car has a history of dash display issues. the owner, a retired librarian/researcher from general motors advanced engineering staff and the r&d center, has worked on unintended acceleration legal cases for the company, and has supported litigation defense work on such issues while at the company. he is still gathering evidence but feels the need to document this incident as soon as possible for nhtsa should an accident occur to him due to this. is a very high risk

This car would suddenly and without warning surge/lunge forward creating a safety hazard to all including other drivers. i have had it back to the dealer twice and they have confirmed and duplicated my observations and concerns however,at first they thought it was electronic and then decided to rebuild the transmission after they found metal fragments within this sealed component. this is a brand new car so why would they not replace the car, give back my money or at the very least replace the transmission rather than repair it? the car has now been in the shop for 18 of the 40 something days that i have owned it and its still there today. i am not convinced that the transmission is the real problem and i'm skeptical that gm truly knows what the issue is. i would be interested to know if other cruze owners are also experiencing this safety issue? i am also disappointed that gm doesn't simply return the few dollars i have invested and let this car fly off into the sunset. i have been a consistant gm buyer for many many years and this particular situation has left a bad taste in my mouth to say the least. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. the contact stated that the navigational system provided failed and would provide erroneous directions. in addition, the contact was concerned about the push-to-start button feature because the vehicle could be started within five minutes of being parked without the key being used. in addition, the contact stated that the push-to-start feature could not recognize the key while it was in the trunk of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failures. the dealer advised the contact that the navigational system chip needed to be updated. the manufacturer was also contacted and advised that the push-to-start feature was operating as designed and that the vehicle could not read the key while it was in the trunk because the vehicle was not equipped with the onstar system that was able to perform that function. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 400 and the current mileage was 10,500.

The day i purchased the vehicle, the radio intermittently discontinued working. the following morning after driving the care for approximately 20 miles and then stopping to visit my father, the car would not start. the car was towed back to the dealer and they noticed a burnt smell and no voltage to bcm, the repair order indicates they replaced ubec and operated system was all ok at that time. *tr

The vehicles lights started flashing (radio, warning lights on dash) and then the turn signal would not work. dealer found no problems. similar problems happened over next month and then car would not start/respond to remote. brought car to dealer while lights blinking and service department saw problem. car would not start while at the lot and service department pushed it into garage. checked vehicle for week and found no problem and then it happened again. kept car again. after car returned, car would not respond when shut off and attempted to get out of car (locked in). the car was in park and turned off and the occupant could not get out of the car. restarted car and then locks worked. dealer found no problems. since then had an incident when car was parked and turned off and it took two tries for occupant to get out of car. concerned about safety if occupant is locked inside car. *tr

I recently had a diagnostic done on my 2012 chevy cruze eco 1.4 liter. the code read as p069e, fuel pump control module. i have had issue with the instrument panel not showing accurate fuel levels. sometimes if the fuel goes below half a tank it reads empty for a few days or a week, even if i fill up the tank it still reads empty. this can be dangerous, especially on long trips and i have a long commute in and out of different cities. i have had this issue since i have had the car at 1100 miles when i got it. i currently have about 108000 miles. i used to think it was the fuel pump, but recently learned it could be a few things like the fuel line pressure sensor, fuel pump mra, wiring, circuit issues, or the fuel pump control module. and the fuel pump control module seems to be the main issue or so i have heard. it would be great if this could be resolved, it is not good driving around with a defective fuel system.

I just want to start off by saying we purchased this car brand new from kocourek chevrolet in wausau, wi. dec 2012 or jan 2013 bumper fell off within 3 months of purchase while driving. yes, fell off. the dealership where we purchased the car hesitantly replaced it as the clips were broke off. dec 2012 trunk button does not work properly - has been replaced multiple times (by kocourek). and not it has recently once it opens, it will not close despite being slammed shut 8 to 10 times. oct 2012 had an antifreeze leak from day one - dealership tells us they can't find anything even when pointed out. i go though a gallon of dexos antifreeze every 2 weeks. but as the dealership says, that's fine and normal.... um... not to me!!!! jan 2018 - the car stalls out constantly - reduced engine power, while driving on the highway, in the city or even just parked in the driveway. i have been very nearly rear ended multiple times because of this. we have yet to find the source of this. jan 2018 codes for throttle position sensor issues even though it has been replaced multiple times. still can't find the source of this. dec 2018 after being started, the car will shut itself off or die off. still cant find the source. aug 2018 recently, the car has dash warnings that state "ac off due to high engine temp" even when it is 30 degrees out. the temp gauge will also drop to cold. we have also changed the thermostat multiple times as well. this car is beyond a lemon. we have had issues with this car from day 1. and what is more ridiculous is that the dealership will not stand behind it. i have service records documenting the complaints of the issues and the dealership "not finding anything wrong" or "unable to duplicate issues". we have given up with chevy and also with kocourek chevrolet in wausau. these issues have been ongoing since we purchased the car september 2012.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated and stalled while driving various speeds. while driving on an incline, the contact had to keep the clutch pedal depressed in first and second gear to prevent the vehicle from stalling. the accelerator pedal also had to remain depressed to maintain acceleration. the vehicle also stalled when the gear was in reverse. the vehicle was taken to the dealer more than once, but the failure could not be duplicated. in addition, the air conditioning and heat were inoperable. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 100.

I've went through 7 turbos, i bought the car brand new. im now having electrical issues with it.

Tire monitor system gives warning that it needs service, have been to dealership twice in the past two days for same problem and now must go again because warning light is back on to service tire monitor system. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet cruze. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate and stalled without warning. in addition, the electrical system failed on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis but they were unable to duplicate the problem. the vehicle was not repaired and the problem persisted. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 3,800. *tr

I was driving home and out of nowhere my 2012 chevy cruze dings and says "engine overheating a/c turned off," i was very surprised but kept driving and literally one minute later the car dings again. there is a different message that says "idle engine overheating," at this point i am very worried and i pull over and call the chevy dealership that i bought the car from and explain what has occurred. i was advised to bring the car into the service department. so, i start the car up and begin the drive over to the dealership that is about 15 minutes away because of traffic. not three minutes into the drive i get the same message "idle engine overheating," i'm very nervous but keep going and about two minutes later i get a new message "shut engine off engine overheating." i call the dealership and they tell me that i am close enough that i should just continue and drive to the dealership. i get about 200 yards from the entrance of the dealership and my engine starts smoking. i have had this car for less than seven months and i basically only use it to drive to work and school. i take very good care of my vehicles, i get the oil changed every 4,000-5,000 miles, in fact i got an oil change less than a week ago. *tr

Cruze has a coolant smell both inside and outside of the car. apparently this is an extremely common issue with the cruze vehicles. gm has yet to fix the issue with these vehicles. *tr
