Gas leaks from top of gas tank, can cause fire, and throttle switch causes engine to loose power, i have had it cleaned and it works, but now i have second cobalt, and it does the same thing with throttle switch causing car to run under 20 miles per hour. the power reduction can cause engine to overheat and the leaky gas tank can catch fire. someone should look into this issue asap. *tr
I have a 2006 chevy cobalt. i have had issues with every part that has been issued a recall so far and then some. the latest issue is that my car is leaking gasoline under the driver side door. i see that there was a recall issued for this in 2009, but only for vehicles in certain states, in which i do not reside. i have also had issues with my ignition for several years, so it is good news that a recall has come up for it. before the recall was issued for the power steering pump, i had no power steering for six months prior. i think that it is repulsive that gm can manufacture this car and just issue recall after recall with no consequence. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v419000 (fuel system, gasoline). the contact smelled a strong fuel odor near the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic where it was diagnosed that the o-ring gasket was cracked and leaking. the vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 62,000.
Heavy gas odor and gas leak/spot under car on passenger side at fuel pump area on 2006 cobalt. poor gas milage and sluggish performance. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. the contact smelled a strong fuel odor outside of the vehicle. an independent mechanic stated that the return port was cracked and discovered that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
My car was part of the gm recall for the incorrect ignition switches. it was returned to me on july 23rd, fixed or so i was told with a new ignition to fix the issue. however within a week of having the car back, it was doing the same as before the recall fix was done. slipping into accessibility mode and not giving me any option to hit the gas, only pull off if i was able, turn the car off, then back on and go. this happened a couple of times when i was going upwards of 40 mph. the last few times this has happened was pulling from my street into a busy street with traffic going upwards of 55 mph. i had to pull off as quickly as i could onto the shoulder and turn off the car, back on again and go meanwhile hoping to not be hit. i contacted gm again and was told that my recalled part was fixed and this had to be another issue. however, it's the exact issue that happened before my car was fixed. i'm 7 months pregnant and often drive with my 16 month old son in this car with me. i do not feel safe driving it and cannot just go purchase a new car. i feel like this needs to be looked into further to find out if there are more issues after the initial recall fix. *tr
I have been smelling gas inside and outside of my vehicle. i was told it maybe a gas leak, but no gas residue was found on the ground then i was told my gas cap may need to be replace. so i went to autozone and had it checked out and was told my gas cap, transmission and battery was good. you can walk pass my car anytime of the day without it been cranked up and smell gas. i done did some research and seen their was a past recall similar to this but was told it was fixed in the past. (i guess way before i purchased this vehicle) but now im also seeing im not the only one with the issue, what can be done about it and since so many people are having the same problem why not do a recall on it? i done put so much money into this car and only had it 16 months, this is ridiculous, frustrating and definitely not safe. pretty sure not good for me and my kids health and this is my only transportation as well. *tr
I have had two of these models in our shop and both being 2006 models. the fuel lines are rusting out at the support clamp near the frame on the drivers side. this location is about 4 inches from the exhaust. fuel sprays on to exhaust and vaporizes. this allows fumes to enter the interior of vehicle. fumes are dangerous and causing driver to become weak and drowsy. the potential for accident is higher then that of a politician actually doing their job.... please investigate this.

We can smell gas coming from the car. we can't even put our vehicle in our garage because it smells up the whole house like gasoline. my husband took it apart and said that there is a leak in the fuel pump. i went on line and notice that there was a recall for this but only in certain states. why is that? what do we do now? we are afraid to drive it because we are afraid that it will catch fire. please advise. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. while driving various speeds, fuel fumes were emitted into the vehicle. the failure occurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was unknown.
My vehicle smells of gasoline and has been leaking like crazy. i am getting less than 17 miles per gallon and losing a ton of gas due to the fuel pump recall. i believe that it should be under recall in every state and not just a few. if it is recalled on any 2006 chevy cobalt i believe it should be recalled on all of them no matter what the state. i live in michigan and therefore its stated there is no recall for it here. i am very disappointed in this and in gm for selling a car with as many recalls as the cobalt has and only choosing very few states for the recall to be granted. i used to be a huge gm fan but, now after having as many issues as i have had with this car and living in michigan not being able to have it fixed under recall, i no longer feel the same, in fact i am strongly thinking of going foreign. thanks gm for letting down yet another customer. please get back to me when you want to take care of your customers everywhere and not just in certain states. this is your fault that the car is so faulty and i think you should stand up and own up to it and fix the chevy cobalt's no matter what state they are in. how does it even matter what state a person is in anyways a default part is a default part, isn't it? *tr
I have been noticing the smell of gas from my car for about 2 months. about a week ago i saw a puddle of gas on the garage floor. i took it into the shop to have it inspected and was told the fuel line is leaking due to a part the manufacturer placed on the vehicle that is defective and rusted. upon doing further research i have found that many owners have experienced this problem and the manufacturer has issued a recall but only in certain states, none of which are mine. i feel this recall should be for all vehicles. it should not matter what state, as it is obvious this defect is affecting vehicles in all states. the consumer should not be responsible for the cost of this repair as it is due to the faulty manufacturing. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. the contact received otification of nhtsa campaign id number: 09v419000 (fuel system and gasoline) and took the vehicle to the dealer. the dealer stated that the modular reservoir assembly would be replaced however, the parts were not available to perform the repair. the contact received a second recall notice yet the parts were still not available. the manufacturer was notified. the contact had not experienced a failure.
Consistent with many, many other owners, my 2006 cobalt has the dreaded gas leak smell, yet chevrolet refuses to include my state in the recall. this is unacceptable and dangerous to allow so many cars with gas leaks to not be recalled. i do not exactly live in a cold weather state (mo). it is absurd that if i lived 200 miles to the south my car would be at least partially affected by a recall for this very issue. gm is pinching pennies and refusing to fix a problem which exists nationwide. *tr
My car has been mildly having problems when you would stop at a light or pull into a parking spot it acts like it wants to cutoff. i got the letter on the recall and it definitely gave me anxiety driving the car especially since i have to travel 180 miles quite often for my kids. i had the recall fixed and yet still had the minor problem. i say minor only because it did not cause anything bad to happen at that time. also noticed that my car was not acting right with the two keys they gave me sometimes it would start and sometimes it locked up. but not every time. about two months after that i went to lunch and my key got locked in the ignition and the car would not start. figuring i trust be the battery i went bought a new battery but the car still wouldn't start. i had it towed to gm dealership and they told me it coded for the ignition switch and the fuse box. but then called me back and said it was the fuse box and the body control module and the fuel pressure censor. i tried to trade it in and the value of a car i bought just a year and a half ago for 11,999 is now only worth 3000.00 even to the maker of the car i would be stuck paying on a car that is unsafe still and makes it to where i cannot get a new car because of the amount i still owe on the vehicle. *tr

Boltwell ever since we had gotten this chevy cobalt we are having probes bad it is bad.yes we got a warranty. so we take it back so they can fix it so they had it for a week. well they called us to come get it well we did and they told us they couldn't fix it because they wouldn't make no profit off of it they did and. so they had a white truck out there with more miles. so we ask for it and they said they couldn't do it. and now the warranty went up yesterday so now we are stuck and it cost. us to 50 dollars a day to drive it costthirty miles .and use it to take my grandma back and forth to the clinic and it makes her very sick please help us get what we are paying for or what we wanted in the first place and that is a small truck we don't care it can be the same mileage and every thing and this place is a in bowie and it's lipscombs and i prefer not going back there if i can keep from it i recorded them telling us that and everything and i had all ready got the car and every thing you can tell what they checked to because it is still hanging from the car please contact me my grandma is 82 yrs old she has to make it to her appointments please. *tr

There is a recall for the fuel system leaking on 2006 cobalts as well as other year cobalts and ion's. the recall is limited to certain states and certain vin's. my 2006 cobalt was bought in kentucky but is having the same issue as described by the recall. upon researching the issue i have found other complaints outside the affected area with the same issue. *tr
I had noticed a very strong gas odor in my vehicle for awhile when i took it in to get an oil change i inquired about it. while working on the car they noticed a leak coming from the gas tank and made me aware of it and suggested i get it fixed as soon as possible. once i was able to i looked up the information and found that there was indeed a recall on these vehicles for this particular reason and many consumers were upset about it. i called gmc and they informed me that i was eligible for a special coverage adjustment to replace my fuel pump and i should make an appointment with the dealership. i went to the dealership to make an appointment and they informed me that although it was within the ten year limit it was over 120,000 miles and they would not replace it under the special coverage adjustment. obviously this car is eight years old and the chances of any vehicle that old being under 120,000 miles is absurd! and i was told in a very rude manner that if my car blew up because of this it was not their problem. i have only owned this car for a year and a half and was not made aware that this was a recall or special issue upon purchase even though it has apparently been recorded since 2009. it is completely and utterly ridiculous that they are not more pro-active in the rectification of this issue as it is endangering lives! *tr

For the past few days my wife and i have smelled gas after the car was shut off. today we now have fuel leaking from the fuel tank area of the car. we looked the problem up and see that a recall for the problem. we call gm and were informed that our car is not on the recall list. our car is the same year and model as the recall but we live in the wrong state. *tr
This is the second time i have faced spending hundreds of dollars to replace a part with a known problem. the first time was nhsta complain #10419243 filed on 08/12/2011. at the time, i issued a complaint after having to replace the fuel pump on my 2006 chevy cobalt because of a crack in the port on top of the pump that is situated on top of the fuel tank. on 3/11/2012 the replacement pump also failed in the exact same spot. at the time, i was driving down the highway when the engine stalled. i later learned there was fuel leaking all over the road under my car. after being towed to an independent repair shop, i was told that the same part had failed again. though the mechanic tried to find the part itself, he soon learned it is not sold separately and the only way to fix the problem is to replace the entire pump.this time is was over $600 to replace it and together with the $85.00 tow bill, i have now spent over $1100 on a known defect that would be covered under recall if i lived in one of the states where a recall for this part is in effect. more than 100 complaints have been filed between these two personal incidents. when is someone going to do something about it???!!!!! does someone have to die in a fire before this problem is addressed? *tr

Can smell fuel vapor odor from rear of vehicle. had inspected for leak and found line cracked on top of fuel pump module. this is a fire/safety hazard and this low mileage vehicle should be covered under the safety recall 09v419000 but is not because the car is registered in a "northern" state. *tr
My 2006 chevy cobalt ss supercharged started malfunctioning in feb 2013 driving the hwy the car would jolt as if it was running out of gas same thing occurred on april 2013. the big problem happened sept 2013, driving 75 on the fwy my cobalt started to jolt and loose power and the speed started slowing down all the way to 30mpg i was barley able to make my way through traffic to get to the side of the road, once pulled over my cobalt didn't want to start and when it did it would only go about 100 feet and slow down then turn off. since then my cobalt has not been able to function properly. at low rpm's it dies off. since that day my boost gauge doesn't work. my mpg's have dramatically fell about 10, ill fill up half the tank and the next thing you know it drops to empty. also while driving when i hit pot holes the car turns off. it has a hard time starting up. i've read through the forums and other people have had this problem. is there a recall for this yet and if not who not?! wouldn't you think cars failing on the fwy is a major red flag? *tr
Smell of fuel went to get it checked and it is leaking gas from the top of the fuel tank. *tr
Since i bought this car in may of 2011 i have had nothing but problems. in march of 2012 my fuel pump went out while i was driving due to a recall from several years earlier, which i don't understand why it wasn't replaced before i bought the car especially if i bought if from a dealership. in january of 2013 my gear shift assembly went out luckily after i was done driving and in the process of parking which resulted in my keys getting locked in the ignition. a month later my switch board stopped working in my steering wheel which turns off my signals when i turn and my keys still occasionally get locked in my ignition. my o2 sensor just went out, shortly after i got the car i learned one of my valve covers is leaking oil, and i just replaced my ignition coil pack! i am afraid to drive this car any longer especially with the new recall about the ignition. this car is a hazard to anyone driving it. i should not have this many issues when i have only owned the car for three years. i believe gm should recall the whole car. i tried taking my car to the dealership in february to inquire about the recall and they sent me away and said to wait to receive something in the mail to see if my car qualifies. seriously??? i'm not sure what actions i should take to ensure my safety. i don't have the money to fix this car that has everything under the hood failing all at once! every day i drive this car i am putting myself in danger. any information back would be greatly appreciated. thank you. *tr
I noticed a slight fuel smell from the car which lasted several months. it increased to a strong fuel smell and hard cold starts along with rough idling. it finally led to leaking fuel. i removed the fuel tank and while inspecting it, the fuel line fitting broke off of the fuel pump. there is a current recall for the exact problem, but not in the state i bought or registered my car in. this should apply to all affected vehicles. *tr

A strong gasoline odor prompted me to take the car to my personal mechanic. leaking fuel module caused odor, entire fuel pump replaced. i investigated why a non-moving part might fail and discovered a recall, limited to southern states. i called gm customer service and was stonewalled by [xxx], ext 42872, who was otherwise courteous. a leaking fuel delivery system is a safety hazard, and i believe gm should: recall all models and reimburse owners for repairs made for this defect. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Gas smell coming from inside and outside of the vehicle, took my 2006 chevy cobalt to the dealership after gm said to do so, the fuel pump module has a crack in it due to manufactured parts being made of plastic. no help covering the cost although there are recalls in several warm weather states but not in indiana we had a very hot summer which caused parts to expand and crack. i think gm should cover the cost of repairs, but the only offered me a 10% discount! i really hope my vehicle doesn't catch on fire! i am so disappointed in gm, i am not going to give up on this i will keep complaining until some one helps me cover the cost! *tr

Noticed a very strong fuel odor while driving, idling and parked. i took my vehicle to my mechanic to look into the issue. after looking everything over, he notice the pressure hose off the fuel pump was cracked, and that the entire fuel pump would need to be replaced. i then took it to the local dealership and was told they can not fix the issue because of the mileage. i noticed this is a major issue with many 2006 chevy cobalts and gm need to start fixing their issues. *tr

I took my 2006 chevy ss cobalt into the dealership because there was a strong gas smell coming from the car. i was told there was a recall on this model of car for the fuel system, gasoline: delivery : fuel pump but only if i lived in arizona or nevada. i also looked up a few different forums online for this problem and there were many others that did not live in the states listed that had this same problem. there seems to be a problem in other regions on the recall that aren't being addressed that could cause some serious issues. *tr

Strong fuel smell while driving and when vehicle not running. fuel leak from gas tank area. gm recall will not cover because they say it was a "goodwill" recall and put mileage limitations. gm wants me to pay dealership for an "official" diagnosis and they "might" help me. sounds like a gimmick to get more money for the dealership. they know i am over the mileage limitations so why pay the extra money for an official diagnosis? rip off, they know this is a problem. when someone blows up maybe they will repair then?? *tr
