Power steering goes out while driving making it hard to stop or steer
While driving today door locks unlock and lock again randomly. it was scary. i was driving in town. also traction control light and engine light came on. began running rough and lunging. i am afraid to drive my own car.
For the past three days driving to and from work my chevy cobalt has been putting me in danger. when i start to break, sometimes the symbol with a lock and key, and air bag lights will turn on and the car steering wheel would lock and the brakes would come up resulting in the car being turned off while i am on drive. this is dangerous because i cannot turn the wheel and the brake is also locked. i get out of my car in the middle of traffic to push it by myself then jump in it and try to start it. this method works sometimes but is dangerous to not only myself but more importantly others. i do not know what is the main cause for this issue however i did some research and did not see any recall on this problem. i need help fingering it out before i hurt myself or others in the middle of the road driving unable to steer or break
My door lock keep lockimg and unlocking randomly on its own.. dose it worse driving down the road.

Car stopped 01/2019, repaired ($400) 2/11/2019: still not working: check engine light on, power steering light on, key gets stuck in ignition, alternator replaced, battery replaced, codes: iso 9141, lwp2000, link error. i need this car for work and chevy dealer says my vin not attached to recall notices. please attach recalls to this vin

Takata recall the car will randomly lose power steering. the power steering message will display on the dash and the steering wheel will lock up. you will then hear a clicking sound as if the transmission is going bad. the car will jerk forward really hard and as you bring the car to a stop, the car will shake and you will hear all kinds of rattling. the gauges on the dash will all jump up & down! and you have no idea of the speed you're going. the check engine light will come on as well as the car with the lock light. sometimes the steering wheel will unlock itself but you will also have all of the other symptoms. as i stated earlier it happens randomly so i have to constantly pull over to avoid an accident! if you attempt to keep driving it there's a chance the car will completely shut off and you will lose control of the gas pedal and brake pedal. i contacted general motors and they stated the car had already been fixed and i got it after the warranty so it's all in my hands. why does the customer have to literally pay for the mistakes of the company i've literally read thousands of reviews of people having these same issues. it's an extremely dangerous car!! and we need to be compensated. this happens when the car is stationary, in motion, on the street, and on the highway.

2006 chevrolet cobalt. consumer writes in regards to power steering, electrical and ignition switch issues. *ld *js
Takata recall on 3/30/18 i was involved in a wreck. i was traveling on a busy city street when the light turned red. i stopped and the person in front of me was driving a large suv. when the light turned green and traffic began to move i started driving. out of nowhere with no warning, the driver just stopped and my car ran into the back of the vehicle. we both stayed in our vehicles i called 911. officers arrived and emergency services. even though hardly any damage was done to the suv, my car sustained a lot of damage to the hood and bumper of my car. the airbags didn't deploy. i thought my car was totaled by looking at it. i was able to have most of my car repaired out of pocket because i had liability only at the time. the passenger in front of me after giving information to the responders was able to drive away, i was not. i've also had another accident where the airbags didn't deploy in 2014. i am concerned that i might be in another accident that could be life-threatening and the airbags won't work. i contacted gm about my concerns regarding the airbags and nothing was done to have my airbags checked. i was able to have the switch changed when there was a recall for that. i hope by sharing my experience with you something can be done to have my airbags checked and give me a sense of security when driving my vehicle.
I had the ignition switch changed 3 years ago and it is now messed up. my car won't start and i need a new ignition switch
Takata recall. i have a 2006 chevy cobalt 2.2. the traction control light is on and the power steering is on the dash. when driving it has a hard shift to it and power steering at all. it all start with the traction control light come on. i cant not get it off.
Takata recall: i recently purchased a vehicle from someone (private owner) and as the tags will soon expire so i decide to get what needs maintenance done to turn that check engine light off. i got a free estimate from o' reilly's and told me to go to chevy and get the maintenance done to my safety recalls. next morning i drive over to chevy's dealership where i was denied any recall being done by an employee named sean popplewell. i told him to print me out a paper of what had been done, needing to be done and also took it up with the manager. the service manager confirms i cannot be denied for a maintenance but sees that the only maintenance open online is a service update and that there is nothing they can do salvaged or not. as i recently purchased the vehicle i am being denied my right to a safety recall, not only being denied while driving my 1 and a half year old son, in a vehicle who's check engine light is on due to the safety recalls that i am being denied to. i am within my right to 10 years after the recall is distributed to get the recall done within that time, they are not allowing me too. the car is 100% driveable but i need to get this taken care of so i am not denied in my smog test. i was also not the original owner and the law states that i am not held accountable for a previous owners lack of responsibility, i was not aware, i've never had received proper notification i should not be denied service. it's sad to know they have denied me these rights in front of myself and my 1 and a half year old who is in the car 24.7.
Failure to communicate with tcm/ecm/pcm. this problem has caused several occurances where driving the vehicle has been hazardous. because of either the wiring or the tcm itself, i, the consumer, have nearly been in 2 accidents. at first i was told that it was the power steering assist module. replaced that and problem still occurred. when the problem occurs, the gauges jump up and down and completely stop working (speedometer and tachometer), transmission shifts extremely hard when accelerating, power steering illuminates in the data information box which in turn causes loss of power steering (replaced power steering assist motor, issue still happens, 1 occurance of loosing power steering and being able to stop before going off the side a mountain when trying to maneuver a right hand turn), check engine light illuminates, when shifting from park to reverse, reverse to neutral, neutral to drive, the transmission engages very hard and results in an audible "clunk". 1 occurance of vehicle switching gears into neutral from drive, while driving (shift lever still in drive position),passlock light also illuminates in dash. vehicle consistenly acts as it is going to stall (headlights and dash lights dim). checked alternator and battery, both in optimal working condition. presenting diagnostic code include p0700 and u0100. vehicle maintanence has been performed at 3,000 mile intervals but has been pulled off the road due to the 2 occurances of near accidents. vehicle has been experiencing issues for several months prior to removing it from opperation. i know for a fact, this cobalt is not the only one having this issue.
Power steering contributed to a single vehicle wreck that call cause driver to slide into a ditch. also electrical problems cause the wipers not to work in misty rainy conditions. hood latch will not come up with out using extra force.
My ignition ion switch is very loose some times can't start car. my locks unlock and lock by them self..this happens while driving and while sitting still.
Signal showing airbag needs servicing goes on and off while driving. headlights, low beam (both of them) just stopped working. new bulbs and new fuses are not the problem. now, i can't even keep my high beams in "on" position. only if i hold the switch. i've had this car for under 3 months. driver's side door lock sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. i have to unlock the door manually (sometimes). i find that odd. my largest problem is obviously headlights. i have 2 children and can't drive at night, even in an emergency.
Engine started jerking.malfuntion engine block light came on the dashboard.car was in motion on a city street going on a straight line.after dealer inspection diag-needs code p0300-#1 misfires-needs ignition coil and module.

While driving my traction control light came on then my power steering flashed on as well. my car jersey like it was gonna cut off. i cuthink it off and it started back up. from what i have read this seems to be an ongoing problem with cobalts.
Ignition lock - car gets stuck in the ignition and won't release. locks on door move up and down on their own and eventually run battery down gear shift tries to shift on its own and clicks frequently

Just bought 2006 chevy cobalt ss i know there was a recall for the power steering going out i called the dealership about the recalls i gave them the vin and over the phone they said there is still 3 recalls for the car i went there today and they said there was only one they fixed it but it wasn't the power steering he said it was already fixed but there been times the power steering goes out on its own and i'm curious if they are still responsible for fixing that recal. another thing was the airbags which i believe was another recall for the car the airbag lights is on and once again they refused to cover it.

This has happen to me 5 times all at different times. one time i was stationary in a parking lot. the others have been driving down city streets, turning corners and on the highway. i will be driving down the road or just start my car and the gauges just go nuts. my security light will come on my fuel gauge, rpm gauge. and mph gauge will just go to zero. the rpm gauge bounces up to 900-1000 then back to zero. the words on the dash will read low fuel (even if i actually have a full tank) and then it'll cut my power steering and i won't be able to turn at all or barely. i also have a video of it doing it while i was stationary. this is dangerous and has made me almost crash multiple times. and once i actually hit a curb in a parking lot when it decided to happen.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle lost power and all the doors unlocked. the contact stated that the power steering indicator illuminated. the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and was later taken to an independent mechanic who referred the contact to a local dealer. the contact made the manufacturer aware of the failure and was referred to a local dealer. the failure recurred, but was not diagnosed. the failure mileage was 32,500. the vin was not provided.
My vehicle has been turning off while i have been driving. this abrupt "turning off" started occurring even before the ignition switch was changed by gm but now it is becoming more frequent. prior to the ignition switch being change, each time the car would turn off the airbag sensor would flash repeatedly. after the ignition switch was changed i notified the dealer that the airbag sensor remained lit, and they just told me that it was a faulty sensor and that it had nothing to do with what was fixed on the ignition. the dealer also told me that if i chose to have it fixed, it would be an out of pocket expense. i never took the car back to the dealer to have that repair. this month i was in a car accident on the interstate and the airbags did not deploy. although th accident did occur because of the car turning off on me, i am concerned that the airbags did not deploy that day and that my car continues to turn off on me. it doesn't matter what speed the vehicle is going either, the vehicle turns itself off. it's has happened in normal traffic after attempting to cross and intersection, on the highway and even while making a turn. i really feel this could cause a major car accident if not repaired soon. i have taken my car to the shop to have it diagnosed but they cannot find what is wrong with the car. one mechanic said it was an electrical problem. another mechanic said it could be the transmission. i keep getting conflicting diagnoses.
Had ignition switch replaced for recall about a yr ago. while driving on interstate car showed power steering in info line. then odometer , speed, info numbers all stopped working. pulled in gas station, car won't start, key won't come out of ignition. after a few mins, car started back up and now anti-theft light is on. managed to drive tha car 100 mi. back home but noise like lawnmower coming from front and felt like transmission stuck or slipping. was terrified that car was gonna blow up or just stop and get hit by semi. the car has also just stopped a couple of times after having the ignition switch replaced. i had no problems with this until it was replaced. i did have the fuel leak happen and the electrical lights stop working and dim or get brighter with braking. this car is so dangerous to the drivers as well as public, it should not be in the road and consumers should not have to spend money they can't afford to fix a manufacturers screw-up.
Alarm sounds every time door is opened. it doesn't stop until key is put in ignition and turned. it doesn't matter whether it is opened with the fob or the key. locks also randomly lock and unlock. this has been going on for about a year now. why isn't there a recall on this? this apparently is a problem in this make of car.
While driving the car at speed it continued to accelerate after taking foot off gas. the doors also started to lock and unlock and every light possible on the dash came on. speedometer read zero even thought still moving.

My car will not communicate with nj dot computers for inspection and it will shut down the power steering at times and the transmission bucks and the gauges act up also the car rough idles and wants to stall and has .the dealer refuses to fix under their special circumstances not a recall but they said that chevy cobalt have a issue with communicating with the dot computers for inspection and same problem every time i go for state inspection last time it took 6 times for them to get it right .now apparently it wasn't it just was temp. the dealer tried to tell me they didn't work on it and knew nothing about the problem .finally agreed they did and there's a reprogramming fix their supposed to do but want at least an hour of labor to check it .after checking online there are tons of cobalt with the same problem

After recall on ignition switch my car still stalls and the power locks go up and while driving and it sometimes will not come out of park
I had ignition switch recall work performed on my car. following that, or perhaps due to increased mileage, i began having power problems with my cobalt. on 10/19/15 my car was parked, wouldn't start and check engine light was on. then it started but didn't have enough power to move/run. i had to have it towed - mileage was 131,982 at the time. battery was good. the shop said it had po300 codes - random misfires. they found cylinders 2 and 3 were not contributing power due to a bad ignition module. so the ignition module was replaced. i also had worn spark plugs replaced, as the shop recommended i do so. the car still had misfire codes and would hesitate when re-accelerating after stops, so i paid for a new fuel filter at the repair shop's recommendation. the hesitation continued but i couldn't afford further diagnostics/repairs. within a couple of weeks of repair my car lost complete power while i was driving in traffic. luckily, other drivers had time/space to react, but it could have caused a deadly accident. due to finances, my brother checked the car for me and cleaned the throttle body - the only issue he could detect. it has run a bit better since then, but still exhibits hesitation after stops. i worry it may lose complete power again but i cant afford incurring further expense with trial and error repairs. especially after reading online other cobalt owners are having the same experience, and have been unable to get resolution despite multiple expensive trips to mechanics. i feel chevrolet needs to investigate the electrical/power loss issues with cobalts and cover needed repairs under a recall so cobalt owners can drive with peace of mind. i'm submitting this complaint now because of a recent nbc news program where a young woman died when her cobalt lost power in traffic, and this also occurred following the ignition switch recall work being done.
The ignition switch was supposedly changed, still having trouble starting the car. difficult to steer, sensors aren't working. stationary when trying to start the vehicle, sensor lights comes on when driving, city highway.
Car while it's running gets a security light and engine light on and all gauges read zero besides the rpms jumping to a thousand. an display saying low fuel and power steering and when try to change display it reads ---------- and it did the same thing while driving down the road so i pulled over and turned it off and back on and only the security light stayed on. very dangerous as the car will not move when it's happening it's like it's disabled.
Drove home from work and about 3 hours later i got into my car to leave, cranked my car and i had a message on my digital reading "power steering" and i could not turn my steering wheel at all!! i looked on youtube and see there are a lot of people having this issue with their cobalt's, but yet there hasn't been a recall on this issue and was told to contact you guys. why hasn't there been a recall?? i'm afraid to drive my car!!
