Gas smell omitting from under the body into the car . car is stationary the majority of the time , unless on my way to work . usually taking city streets to work . car is parked at home in the garage.
We have a 2006 chevy cobalt with 81000 miles. this vehicle belonged to my father who in turn saved it for my son. the problem that i'm having is that we saved this vehicle so that it would be a good starter car for my son but we have since found out that it is unsafe. we took the car to a local auto repair shop for some work to be done on the car for the front struts to find out that it has a gas leak. unknown as to how long the leak have been going on. once finding that information out we took the vehicle to the chevrolet dealer to see about a recall on the car. turns out that there is a recall #090226 for the leak but for the fuel pump but not for the fuel line. i was told by the chevy service department tech that it is unknown how the problem may have occured other than being outside or what type of landing the vehicle was parked on. i've had 3 different vehicles & never had a fuel line leakage problem let alone having any type of problem with my vehicle by being outside or being parked on the street. now if the fuel line & fuel pump work hand in hand why woundn't the fuel line be apart of this recall. as a customer, i do believe that if they had to replace the fuel pump then they would replace the fuel line in order for the parts to work properly. this is a major concern for me because customers would be riding around with a major hazard & wouldn't even know it until they were in an accident that may result in being fatal. there is no reason why this company would recall only 1 part of the issue & not the entire issue. just another way of dismissing the safety issues with their vehicles that this company has incurred over the years.
Leaking fuel.. extremely strong fuel smell. happens whether in motion or while driving
A fuel smell was coming from the back of the car, when parked. i took it to the mechanic and he found safety bulletin #09226b. the mechanic called the chevy dealer before removing the fuel tank to confirm the product safety bulletin. they said there was no manufacturer replacement, because i live in illinois. i am the original owner of the car with 97,048 miles, but the recall only applies in warm states (texas, arizona, california, and nevada)the fuel tank was removed and he found a small leak on the fitting at top of the fuel pump module. the fuel pump was replaced and retested for leaks. i paid for the fuel pump and the work. i will never buy a gm car again!
My car falls under the 09v419 recall. i began smelling strong fuel smell outside the 2006 cobalt. i brought it into chev dealer to check for fuel pump module recall. they informed me the fuel pump recall was not the issue, instead the fuel lines are rusted out and leaking...tech comments "found both the pressure and return lines are very rusty and leaking fuel". vehicle has approx 121,000 miles. cost to repair will be $755.00. it would appear the fuel lines are faulty/poor construction or the rust-proofing is poor. this problem is very prevalent in this model. presents a safety hazard, especially when dealer does not plan to replace the fuel pump module despite my vin # being within the range of the cars affected and safety recall report specifies that the estimated percentage with defect if 100%. manufacturer should stand behind the product and fix all suspected vehicles.
Some time ago i received a recall notice for the fuel lines. i contacted dealership and they refused to repair. currently i have an active fuel leak around fuel tank when driving. somebody told me about this website, so i am writing here to see if somebody can enforce recall for my car. i don't remember now when i was rejected, so i will put /1/1/2016 for the date. thanks.

When the car was in park, we noticed a strong smell of gas. when we looked under the car it was leaking from what appeared to be the gas tank. i took it an independent mechanic who told me that it was leaking from the fuel pump. the repair is going to cost me around $600. the mechanic was nice enough to remind me about certain recalls on this particular make and model from chevy. when i look at the recalls, the particular problem is listed, but for some reason, chevy made it real convenient to say that only certain chevy cobalts 2006 were going to be fixed. as i entered the vin number to check it, mine states that there are no recalls for my car. my car fits all the criteria, why is it that mine does not qualify for the recall? i would like to know, if my car did not "qualify" for the recall, then what 2006 chevy cobalts qualified for the gas leak repair? it seems as though, we the consumers, have to pay for a problem chevy created by using cheap parts. very upset. we are not purchasing another chevy car again.

Everytime we drive our cobalt we have a hard time starting it. after a few days with it being hard to start we then started smelling a strong gas odor on the outside and inside of the car. i found there was a recall for the fuel pump, but for some reason it is only in certain states and of course my state (michigan) is not included.

Takata recall. my car has a very bad smell of gas inside and outside. it just be fixed. i have read many things about this. it's called a silent recall. i need it fixed or i will go find me a lawyer.
The fuel lines are leaking where the lines connect to the fuel pump. it is causing a significant amount of gas to saturate the top of the tank and run down the rear of the tank.

I started to notice a strong smell of gas about 2 weeks ago. i thought nothing of it and assumed i had spilled gas on the side of my vehicle when i went to the gas station. but then i started to notice that the smell would not go away. i checked the ground for leaks and found nothing. i checked my fuel injectors and still no leaks. then i stumbled on nhtsa - where there were complaints of fuel smell outside the car. i then found out there were recalls in certain states - but not mine. why???
Strong gas smell. there are recalls on fuel pump and parts in other states but not in. this should be on all cobalts that have this problem. indiana lives are important too! this is very dangerous and expensive to fix. i have seen many complaints due to this issue online. why don't you step up and fix you mistakes gm?

Strong gasoline fumes; now i'm told it is a cracked piece on the fuel pump assembly just as described in gm recall no. 090226. $750 to replace; and it is apparently yet another known problem with this vehicle.
Strong smell of gas emitting from rear of car. notice more and gets stronger after attempting to start the car. fuel is leaking and gas mileage dropped from around 28-29 to less than 10mpg. i have called local dealer(2) and both are refusing to remedy even though this is not a new complaint or defect but one in chevrolet's design and they have admitted such yet refuse to fix.
I noticed the smell of gas, and my car hesitating to start. i took it to a local shop to get looked at and they told me that the fuel pump was cracked and leaking.

Fuel started leaking from top of fuel tank only when running. i understand there was recall on other models registered in florida and nevada why not new jersey?
I noticed a very bad fuel leak from under my vehicle back in the beginning of may 2015. i kept my vehicle parked until i could get the problem fixed. the middle of may i jacked up my vehicle to see where the leak was, i noticed it was coming from two of my fuel lines that run the length of my vehicle, the leak was in the same spot on both lines, in a bent part of the lines held up by a clip. i took my vehicle to a mechanic shop on july 23 to get a price and to get it fixed. i didn't have as much as it cost to get fixed. but the owner of the shop didn't want me to drive off in my vehicle, he said the it was way to dangerous and could catch fire. the reason for my complaint, i called the gm dealership to get a price on the fuel lines. the guy i spoke with told me this wasn't a new problem, he said several people has been there with the same problem. i asked to check for any recalls, he said there wasn't yet. like there was going to be. he told me not to drive my vehicle because it was extremely dangerous until it was fixed.

Fuel pump is leaking fuel looking up recall on my 2006 chevy cobalt and found they accept recalls for the fuel pump modular leaking fuel but not accepted in my state of ks my vin number falls inbetween the numbers are being recalled the smell of fuel is overwhelming and i cannot afford to fix this issue. *tr
i have been having an issue with a strong fuel smell and witnessed a large puddle of gas leaking under the car. looking under the car i found corroded fuel lines on a plastic chassis bracket. since the lines come from the pump running forward under the passenger side, this is a real fire hazard. the fuel lines are only a few inches from the exhaust pipe. upon ignition this could ignite a fire. several online complaints have been made to recall forums mentioning the same issue with the cobalt model.in the passed their has been a recall, but only for the fuel pump, not including the fuel lines. also, many including myself have went to the chevrolet deal to get this problem solved. the problem is that they refuse to fix any unless i pay $600 or more for the fuel lines.the fuel lines are not even included into any warranty, yet the fuel pump is. since there has been a major issue with this life threatening issue, the materials are obviously problematic and need to be recalled or revised. *tr
I have a gas leak under the car wherevtha gas tank is. i have had this leak for awhile. wanted to know when the recall will hit georgia so i can have it fixed. it smells like gas at all times. almost to the point of making you sick. they have a recall for this in other states. want to know when it will hit georgia.

Our 2006 chevy cobalt vin was took in for repair in nov 2013, we were told we needed a starter but never why, it was because there was a gas leak,we found out in aug 2014 when it caught on fire. again oct 2014 the auto did the same thing we were told the rest of the recall parts were in and to bring it in, all the time we were driving a unsafe car nd was never told. we took the car in nov 2014 with only the battery light on a new battery (less than 48 hrs old and the 3rd one in a year). when got the car back the engine light was on, the power steering light was on and the t/c lights were on the speed odometer nor gas hand works, nor a/c and heat, but they replaced the fuse when we took it back. the car will not change gears and is really loud. they has us to bring it back and did not again do a diagnostic test just say in his opinion the auto needs a new power steering monitor (power steering after recall replacement went out, drives sluggish like it is going to stop in traffic like it did before the recalls but worse. it is as loud as a 5th wheeler truck, therefore it is hard to heard emergency vehicles. none of these safety matter or issues were occurring before the recall parts were put on. the car would stop but would start up and drive however it had none of the problems. the auto we are told if we drive less than 15 mph will be uncontrollable. we cannot control the speed now therefore it now drives at the sluggish gear. we are seniors and are afraid of the car. we did not know the danger of recall because the cards only stated the name of the part. the car as i previously stated would drive but in no way has these problems. the starter put on last year is am example of the safety issues that are hidden from us they replaced the starter we paid for it and never told us it was cause by a recall gas leak until it happen again in aug 2013. i submitted a complaint this time and the last time and they are not interested in ...
I live in buffalo, ny so this is more of a problem than not. during the cold months went he temperature goes below 20 degrees the car fails to start. i have replaced the fuel pump, spark plugs, intake, mass air flow sensor, and battery. i will be trying the crankshaft position sensor next. the car will crank strong, and continue to crank for several minutes. it will then stop, and begin to crank again when the key is again turned. however the car never turns over. the only thing i can imagine is that something is communicating with the ecm or ecu, not to start. this only occurs when it is very cold out as i purchased the car in late september, therefore i have to experience with the vehicle in warm temperatures. *tr
I have a serious leak in my fuel tank. the location of this leak is on the passenger side near the rear tire. the fumes are so strong it can be smelled over 50ft away from the vehicle. i have literally had gas leak onto a friends hand when they leaned down to check for a leak. i myself am a 24 year old female, my passengers on a daily basis include a 24 year old male, and two children one of which is my four year old son and a five year old girl! this is extremely dangerous and members of our families as well as friends are extremely concerned for our safety! i am extremely concerned for our safety as well! you have a previous recall for the year make and model of my vehicle but only limited to a few specific states! this is a serious problem, i have read reports of many others having the same issues as me with this car. something needs to be done and it needs to happen before something horrific happens to someone who is either in or near these vehicles! *tr
I have the smell of gasoline coming from the car and find that it is coming from the area of the gas tank. after further investigation i find that certain cobalt models have been recalled for this matter. where the seal around the fuel pump cracks and leaks. however i am told that for some reason my cobalt model is not in recall for this situation. why not. if some of these vehicles have been recalled for this problem then obviously the problem should be corrected with this vehicle as well. i would like to know how i go about getting this problem resolved with this lemon of a car. *tr
Hi there about two three weeks ago i started smelling fuel every time i got out of my car. my husband checked and it looks there is a hole in the gas tank that or the tube that allows the gas to flow is cracked. i saw that there was a recall for this but only in vehicles that are in nevada, arizona and texas.i am not driving the car currently due to safety reasons. every time gas is put in the car you can hear it leaking out the bottom. i am not sure what to do to fix this. can some one help me?? thank you. The vehicle started to emit an odor of fuel when parked, not running. a few days later a visible puddle of fuel was under the body of the car. this has been recurring every day since the first occurrence. now a visible leak from above the fuel tank can be seen dripping fuel at an accelerated rate. *tr
