Problems with 2005 Toyota Sequoia ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

On average, the 2005 Toyota Sequoia starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL and its various aspects after 99 561 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL problems on 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Vsc off light keeps appearing on and off. antilock braking is disable when the light comes on. *tr

Slip indicator light illuminates and vehicle looses all power for 4-5 sec then resumes normally unless on snow. if on snow vehicle it repeatedly looses power and produces a noise as if it is shorting-out. very dangerous especially when going up hill on gravel road. each bump at low speed (3-4 mph) causes slip indicator light to illuminate and complete loss of power. this happens regardless of traction control being turned off. *tr

My 2005 toyota sequoia had the vsc light come on. we took it to the dealer who said that it was a code for the secondary air injection valve sticking open, but he also told us that they have replaced the valves before and it ended up being the pump. when pulling into traffic the vehicle went into "limp"mode which was very close to causing an accident with my wife and three children in the car. after reading about so many other people with the same problem, it would seem that toyota should be willing to fix this issue before someone is injured or killed in an accident. i now have a car that is not safe to drive. *tr

My 2005 toyota sequoia has been having intermittent brake lights coming on and off for months. usually when i would turn the car off the lights would go off - only to return again for no apparent reason. i have brought the car in many times only to hear that the lights have to stay on for good to analyze and or fix it.....a toyota dealership in savannah made this comment on my last full service appt and made the same reply yesterday. yesterday while braking on a clear day at a slow rate of speed at a routine light the brakes made a terrible grinding noise with an almost wreck caused by the this failure and all the brake, abs and vcs lights coming on. today i replaced the skid control computer at a dealership...for a price of one thousand dollars! 2 dealerships said this is step one in the problem and that "hopefully" it will not happen again. as the mother of a small child, i am at all happy with this answer as i know this is a real safety issue!!!!! had i been on the highway my child and i might not have made it as all control was lost. i think a recall is needed!!!!!!!!! i have read of many reports of 2005's with the same problem. please contact me. thanks. *tr

Stability control lights, abs lights, and brake lights come on intermittently. abs does not work while lights are on. *tt

The brake light constantly goes on and off. trac off, vsc trac and check engine lights all come on. a loud rattling noise coming from the front end of vehicle and vibration. engine will not accelerate randomly while driving and the trac control light goes on at the same time. this is a huge safety issue especially when you are turning in an intersection. i almost got hit. this needs to be corrected before someone gets hurt or killed. the dealer wants me to pay over $2000 to repair. i am a single mother of 2 that just lost her job. this is the same issue that came about in the 2003 toyota sequoia recall. we need this fixed!! *kb

2005 toyota sequoia sr5. my vsc trac light, abs, brake, lights come on periodically for no reason. i have read many others have the same problem. *tr

Vsc (vehicle skid control), trac (traction control), brake lights came on. this is a 2005 model year toyota sequoia with approximately 41,000 miles on the odometer. vehicle has never been in an accident and has been garaged since new. dealer says computer needs replaced, approximately $1,000 to replace. vsc/trac/brake light problems are well documented in 1st generation sequoias (2001-2007 model years). read about problems on www.tundrasolutions.com. *tr

At around 51,000 miles the abs and vsc light came on. lights went out 2 days later. it would come on intermittently about every other month for about 2 days then go out. took it to my mechanic and he found no codes stored. now it has 100,00 miles and the light stays on. took it to a toyota dealer and was told the skid control ecu needs replaced. was told it was a common problem for my year sequoia. i was told then that when the lights are on, the functions do not work. i feel this has been a safety issue that toyota has been aware of but has done nothing to correct. *tr

2005 2wd toyota sequoia limited has the following warning lights on while the engine is running: vsc, trac-off, abs, engine light. the vehicle will stall if you try to accelerate, and it will not go over 50 mph, as if having no power. my sequoia is a real safety problem on the road. until toyota stand behind their products, they are just a pathetic car company with bogus quality image. *tr

My 2005 toyota sequoia has had issues for the past several years in accelerating. the vehicle does not get engaged and it almost stops moving for a second until the vehicle stability control kicks in. today the light went off again vsc trac and the problems continue. *tr

Vsc trac/vsc off/brake lights all come on at the same time. vehicle loses power, which is very dangerous. this is on my 2005 sequoia. *tr

I noticed the vsc trac lights stayed on. the vehicle appears to drive fine for a while, then loses power. dealer could not find any codes and reset it. how it does it all the time mostly about the 2 or 3 day after unhooking the battery. after doing my own research online i discovered that many sequoia owners have experienced the same issue, but toyota has refused to do a recall. this issue with vsc trac is a huge safety concern. through my research i discovered that the vehicle could lose power at any time, and many owners state they hear a grinding noise as the vehicle pulls to the right or left. they recalled the 2003, what about us, a friend had a new computer epu put in at $3000 and did it again in 6 months...toyota knows about this and other problems...we need a recall or have it fixed. *tr

Brake light indicator intermittently came on over several months (jan - may 2011) and at various speeds. sometimes at startup, other times at hwy speed. since fluid was full and clean, did not take car in right away. mentioned to dealer at 60k mi. svc to diagnose. toyota dealer diagnosed the source of the problem was a malfunctioning "electronic skid computer." cost $122 to diagnose and $1120 to replace. i understand this computer controls the stability control and abs systems, so it is a potential safety hazard. *tr

2005 toyota sequoia, engine stops intermittently, "electronic stability control" light come on, engine dies, not on a slippery road. very hazardous if engine dies while driving. *kb

When driving our 2005 toyota sequoia sr5 limited, sometimes while going straight but usually after a turn, the vehicle stability control light (little skidding car icon) flashes on the dashboard and all power is lost - you cannot accelerate. in addition, a severe grinding sound is heard, some of the time, when slowing to turn (not using brake pressure). this stalling has occurred since the vehicle was new. the dealer said it was a defective throttle body and replaced it. this did not solve the problem. any subsequent time i asked them to check it out, they said they could not find anything wrong. now it is happening several times a day. this past weekend, alone, we experienced this problem at least 5 times while driving. i, previously, contacted toyota corp. and their response was that they will put my information into their files, but have no reports of any such incidents. however, looking on the internet, the 2003 sequoia was recalled for this same problem. we are concerned that we are going to have a collision, due to a power loss: as when this happens, there is no way to get out of traffic or avoid other vehicles. it is a serious issue that i think toyota is aware of but does not want to address. looking at several toyota forums on the internet, this is an issue with this vehicle for most owners. it appears that this is an issue that toyota needs to address. *tr

Started car and hear a loud whining noise but no lights came on. within 2 days the whining noise was not heard when starting car but trac off, vsc light, and check engine light were all on. took the truck to mechanic and he changed the battery and flushed the brake fluid. lights were off for about 2 more starts of the truck and all lights were back on. took it back to the mechanic the next day and he kept the truck for 2 days, called toyota and they told him to replace the air injection driver. this was done 12 nov 10 and by 13 nov 10 all lights are back on again and the truck is having issues picking up speed. *tr

This has been going on since april 2010, its now november 2010 with no resolution. my 2005 toyota sequoia trac off, vsc trac, check engine lights and abs lights keep coming on. brought into the dealer three times while the lights were on so the dealer could put it on the computer. no codes show up. i am told that it's not covered even though we have the toyota certified bumper to bumper warranty. they recalled the 2003 for the same problem. they need to do the same for the 05. repair cost for this is $2200.00. *tr

Vsc trac---vsc--check engine light--and then problems with acceleration!! *tr

While driving my 2005 toyota sequoia the brake light and vsc trac lights come on for no reason. i took my car to the dealership to get it repaired and they tightened the emergency brake. 5 minutes down the road it came back on, so i took the car back and they said it needed a new brake computer system, so we replaced it, that evening the lights came on again and now they are saying i need a new power brake booster. i don't think they know what is going on, one of the guys admitted he knew this was a problem but b/c not enough people have complained their has not been a recall. so the car is still not fixed and we worry about our families safety. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*tr

Brake warning light comes on periodicaly. vsc light shows on and off. all three lights come on and off. traction control is activated without warning. i am reluctant to take in to the shop, since many of the compaints have spent much $$ and no results. this is very similar to the issue the 2003 models were having, which toyota recalled the problem. this needs to be addressed on all models and all years that are affected. this vehicle is used by my wife and three kids. it is stressful knowing that this vehicle could potentially harm my family. *tr

Trac off, vsc trac and brake light on. all three lights come and go at will. i had simlar problem during warranty. for last 2 years it has come and gone. but this time it is more on than off for last 10 days. *tr

Car stalls when put in drive and will not drive safely. there is a loud clunk when backing up. car does not have power getting up hills. toyota mechanic says there is a bad computer that has been recalled in 2004 models. i *tr

Vsc/abs skid control ecu failure, the problems we have observed since this has occurred and after 3 times of taking the car into the dealership we have been told the ecu is failing? 1. the car actually froze up 2. instrument panel lights remained illuminated. 3. the brakes failed on one occasion and quickly came back, but made metal grinding noise. 4. at various times the abs kicked in even though the brakes were not applied 5. suv did not properly respond to brake or steering 6. the car occasionally thinks that we are skidding out of control and begins pulsating the brakes 7. while backing out of the driveway the brakes engaged. if you google toyota sequoia and ecu or vsc or abs you will not many people have complained about this issue. in all instances stopping and restarting the car has reset the lights and the issue went away. *tr

Frequently the stabilization control in my 2005 toyota sequoia activates while turning corners. this virtually shuts the vehicle down for a moment before allowing me to accelerate again. this happens most often when completing turns with a drainage gutter but has also occurred when the road was flat. i have come close to be hit due to this but have avoided a crash thus far. i believe this to be very similar to what is being explained in the 2003 recall but i believed it to be isolated until now. *tr

2005 toyota sequoia trac off, vsc trac, and check engine lights all came on suddenly on vehicle with 62k miles. understand this is common problem and that toyota has recognized this as a common problem with these vehicles but will not correct. cost to correct is $1,500 - $2,700. *tr

The vsc / skid controller is not operating properly. my daughter took the 2005 sequoia sr5 to the dealer. a diagnostic test indicated that the skid control logic circuit was bad. the dealer offered to replace the computer for $2700.00 i declined the repair because of the price for the repair. i bought this truck last year (2008) and this is the first problem that i have encountered. this is a safety item that toyota should correct before some one gets seriously hurt. *tr

On my 2005 toyota sequoia, on my dash board the vsc off, vsc trac light came on. when these lights come on there is a computer failure and you could los econtrol. there is a 'service bulletin' dating back to 2003 that toyota is aware of computer failure concerning this issue from what i found out on the websites. *tr

My mother owns a 2005 toyota sequoia. i'm not sure how this works but it is only four years old and the brake light comes on then the skid control comes one. when she took it to the toyota dealer they told her that their was a service bulletin for this and that it was a well known issue with the 2003-2005 models. if im not mistaken congress passed a law stating that all vehicles starting with a certain year has to come with stability control. toyota knows this is a problem and an expensive problem. they want a little over three grand to fix it. i would understand if this was a random event but this is a safety issue and it is a problem well known to toyota. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 toyota sequoia. while driving approximately 65 mph, the contact heard a loud rattling noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. there was also severe vibration. there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the failures occurred intermittently. the dealer stated that the skid control esu failed. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure and current mileages were 44,000.

2005 toyota sequoia vac trac disengaged lost control / accelerator/brakes/ took auto to repair dealer could not find problem. *tr

I have a 2005 toyota sequoia with 56,000 miles on it. over the past month the dash board brake warning light has started coming on. i took the truck to the dealer last week, sterling mccall toyota in houston, texas. the dealer diagnostics revealed a error code on the computer of c1247 stroke sensor failure. after a day the light came back on. the dealers response was that a $2,300 ecu was required to correct the problem. if you look online there are hundreds and thousands of similar complain on this vehicle. something has to be done! *tr

I have a 2005 toyota sequoia with 36,000 miles on it. over the past month the dash board brake warning light has started coming on. i took the truck to the dealer last week, arlington toyota in jacksonville florida. the dealer diagnostics revealed a error code on the computer of c1247 stroke sensor failure. after a $100 adjustment of the brake light switch, with in a day the light came back on. the dealer's response was that a $2,300 ecu was required to correct the problem. i am amazed that a vehicle with 36, 00 miles and less that 4 years old could require a part that expensive. doing a little research on the internet it is clear that this is a systemic problem toyota trucks. an internet search will return pages of 'hits' covering several model years of toyota trucks from hundreds of victimized owners. most of those posts detail owners being taken for thousands of dollars by toyota service departments as their technicians struggle to correct the problem by replacing multiple very expensive parts. in my mind, this is clearly something the government needs to get involved in, as quickly as possible. i do not know if there is a safety issue here. to me a sensor detecting an issue with a vehicles breaking system is not something that should be ignored and the manufacturer should be required to correct this clearly systemic problem with one of their products. richard harp *tr

2005 sequoia - this is now my 2nd formal complaint. vehicle has skid control, check engine, brake, ect lights on and multiple times lost braking control in traffic. i took to the dealer 3 times and finally they replaced the ecu ($1000) and assured me that this was the problem. guess what? problem is back after just a couple months. now it is said that the brake booster needs replacing($1000). toyota has recalled this problem on other years but not the 2005. the time is now! this is a very dangerous vehicle for my family with 3 young children, plus it is costing us alot of time and money! toyota.....please try and keep your reputation and help your loyal customers. *tr

Our brake indicator light on dash comes on intermittently since mid 2008. we've taken to the local toyota dealer 3x to diagnose. on the third visit, the service rep said the skid control computer needs to be replaced. he said when light is on, the antilock brakes will not work, nor the stability control. the estimate to replace is $2425 installed for a new skid control computer. we know of at least two of our friends that are having the identical problem. this is obviously a faulty computer and a safety issue and needs to be recalled asap. *tr

Check engine and vsc off / vsc trac lights keep coming on. have been reset but keep coming on after a few days to a week. now maint req. light is coming on as well. also experiencing excessive idle speed which causes brakes to feel like they do not fully work. *tr

I have a 2005 toyota sequoia limited 2wd. at random times the vsc dealership, vsc off, abs, and parking brake lights all come on at once. they will stay on until i stop the vehicle and turn the ignition off. when i restart the truck they will function normally. there are many theories of why this happens, but my dealership says nothing is wrong. i am worried about a costly repair when i am out of warranty or a potential safety issue. i have had the truck at the dealership multiple times and they say they can't find anything wrong. *tr

The vsc computer on my 2005 toyota sequoia failed and when i looked for help in the auto club i found out that this appear to be a common problem with sequoias. *tr

The vac trac & vsc off buttons on my dash are always on. this has caused the vehicle to grind when backing, drop into 4wd unexpectedly, lock wheels on one side only into 4wd and various other issues. i am lucky that i do in-town driving most of the time and have not experienced this while driving at a high rate of speed. i have had my vehicle scanned for codes & looked over by my mechanic which has not led to any faults or corrections needed. i am afraid to drive my car.

Vsc computer failure and engine will not accelerate. *tr

Vsc, track, and brake lamp stay on. toyota has not repaired problem. was first brought to them in warranty when they said they had to replace the computer but didn't have the part. they have since replaced the computer but the problem persist. now they say it is a master cylinder sensor (2 of them) but still have not repaired. when first brought to them, i was told this was a common problem. have since noticed that the internet is filled with this same problem. this affects traction and is an obvious safety problem and should be recalled. this problem has continued from 2005 to present. *tr

The vsc off, vsc trac and the brake lights comes on intermittently and sometimes even make weird noises. took it to the dealer way back when the car was only a few months old for a couple of times but of course, they couldn't find anything wrong with it. so now that the car is much older and the light is on almost constantly and i found this site so i want to put in a complain hoping toyota would listen and take care of their customers.

The brake light constantly goes on and off. i notice the light permanently stays on after leaving the freeway when the engine slows down (not even stepping on the brakes yet). then, the light doesn't disappear until after the engine is powered off. we brought the vehicle in when in warranty and stated the problem. the first 3 years, all they did was inspect the brake system but nothing was done. we were verbally given an example what they did for a previous customer (changed all the sensors and the system board) but still no fix. at the last service check, another service rep said, don't worry about it because we checked the brakes and they're okay and this is a common problem. these last two weeks (off and on) at the intersection waiting for the red light to turn green, i notice the brake lights are on and suddenly the engine is trying to accelerate and then it stops. *tr
