Occasionally, when the vehicle is in motion on a city street or hyway, the vsc trac sensor lights turning on and off and hearing grinding noise when it auto-engage and disengage and the vehicle loses power and slows down.
When cornering on a mountain road at a safe speed; the vsc traction control kicked in; this caused a grinding sound and the traction control light on the dash. caused vehicle to slow down; i pulled over to side of road checked wheels/tires undercarriage nothing found; proceeded to destination did not repeat. checked online; others have had similar issues.
On 11-08-16 during a pennsylvania state inspection for my 2005 toyota sequoia i was informed it would not pass because of frame rot. the dealer stated it went into service the end of january 2005. how could this be for an 11yr youcng toyota? the frame has rusted in several areas, the rust hole was rusted through from the inside. this vehicle was my choice for my wife and kids due to the reputation and longevity of toyota's vehicles. this is a major issue that needs to be resolved, as it is a major safety concern that could potentially be fatal if unchecked. what should me my future actions to this matter?- also , when in stop and go traffic, every light on the dash will go on, vsc, trac, abs, losing braking power and acceleration. no accident to date because of it's infrequence, but also a major concern!
When making a right hand turn at moderate speed the anti skid light comes on and the car looses power through the turn ... usually in neighborhood situations, but i have experienced it on interstate on ramps requiring a left turn followed by a gradual right banking turn.
Vsc vsc traction control lights comes on as well as the check engine light. the vehicle accelerates poorly. this makes for a very dangerous situation because the vehicle can slow dramatically at highway speeds. lights go off for a little while when the battery is disconnected but all lights and acceleration problems return shortly. owners have spent thousands of dollars replacing parts without a long term fix. spouse will no longer drive the vehicle because of this dangerous problem. totoya needs to fix this widespread problem.
My vehicle's traction control light was coming on periodically, and when that would happen the engine would cut out, & i would not be able to accelerate. i took it in to get it repaired. after the repairs i was driving at about 20 mph, and as i was breaking to turn a corner the abs, vbs, brake and traction control lights came on. my breaks made a grinding noise, the car began to shake, there were no breaks or steering control, and the engine cut out. this was very dangerous as i had no control and was on a city street in front of a park with children, and i had my son with me. luckily i wasn't going very fast as the speed limit is 25 mph, and i was approaching the park and my street to turn on to. i was able to get stopped by hitting a curb but couldn't get control of the vehicle otherwise.
Mileage is 76,500 and driving on city street and my vsc trac, vsc off and break light comes on with a grinding noise. i pulled the car on the side and turn off the car. ever since the vsc trac, vsc off and break light are always on. i went online and i see a lot of sequoia owners have the same problem. is there a recall on this??
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 toyota sequoia. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vsc trac warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 141,008.
I experienced a problem with engine warning and vsc trac off lights going on. the check engine light also came on. my family and i were on a trip and our sequoia all of a sudden lost power. it slowed down dramatically even though the engine was fine. it was a very dangerous situation because we were on an interstate where the speed is 70 mph. i also experienced all the brakes making a massive grinding noise while going slow into a restaurant. (the brakes have less than 3000 miles on them.) the parking brake light also comes on periodically.
I have vsc trac, vsc off, and check engine. if you give it a lot of fuel, it just sounds like it wants to go, but it doesn't translate into power in the rear end. i use my code reader and it showed codes p1441 and p1444. says i may have: a) faulty vacuum switching valve (vsv) for air injection control circuit, b)faulty air switching valve number 2, or c)faulty vsv for air injection system. this is the second time this happened to my sequoia, and this seems to be a recurring issues for toyota sequoia owners and in fact it is a recurring issues for other models as well. this cost me approximately $2200 last time and now 2 years later it is back for another $2200 to repair. it's all the over the internet about this vsc trac, vsc off, and check engine, it needs to be recalled!
I get constant warning lights for brake, vsc and trac. this is a very common problem with the sequoia. it shuts down those safety features.
Check engine light on. vsc trac light on. vsc trac off light on. mechanic checked codes and replaced #6 coil as well as replacing spark plugs. drove it home and all lights came on again. vehicle in motion when lights appeared city street, highway , gravel lights on.
The vsc trac, vsc off, brake, and abs lights all come on all at once. this has happened numerous times since i first bought the used suv in may 2013. it worries me as i am on the freeway not knowing what will happen. not sure how this will affect my vehicle in the long run. it normally comes on when i drive the vehicle for more than one hour at a crawling speed. for example, there have been times the freeway hits a rush hour moment and everyone will start rolling/crawling with their vehicles. as this happens, the lights will come on at least two times in a 30 minutes to one hour time frame.
A couple of days ago, when i was driving on the highway, my sequoia suddenly stopped accelerating. trac light and vsc light and check engine light came on. my speed would not go above 40mph and would not even brake. i was in the left lane and the cars behind me were going pretty fast and almost hit me. i am lucky there was no car in the right lane, so i pulled to that lane just in time. it was a scary moment for me because my kids were with me also. i always thought of toyota of having safety in their cars, but when i came home to research what might be happening to the car, i found out many people are having the same exact problem and thus it is a manufacturers problem. i am suprised toyota is not doing anything about this. do they not care of the safety of the consumers? the milage on my sequoia is only 39,000 and i do not drive it too often, and also have maintained it very well. we spend so much money on this car and this vehicle really was not worth it if it came with so many factory defaults. please follow-up on this issue to have it resolved.
Oyota sequoia 2005 engine light on ,vsc off light and trac vsc light on. these complaints are about this problems http://www.automotiveforums.com/t544406-sequoia_vsc_trac_problem.html,http://www.carcomplaints.com/toyota/sequoia/2003/electrical/vsc_trac_lights_are_on.shtml,here are tons of other complaints on this problem and it is not limited to our year model. if all of the complaints were compiled in one area and presented to the ntsb, i'm sure that toyota would be forced to deal with this issue and correct it. its a big issue estimated cost for that around $ 2000 to $ 5000 i don`t know if u investigate or no .i am not going to get this issue repair until i will hear from you .please take it seriously
My 2005 sequoia has the vsc off and vsc trac lights on and it causes a hesitation in acceleration - which is a significant crash hazard. i notified toyota about this and asked if they would fix it because they recalled other years of sequoias for the same problem. toyota will not fix it and said that the 2005 has different parts than the years that they recalled. that is silly because the problem is there even if the parts are different. the hatchback latch has also broke and the hatchback will not open. i looked online and saw that this is another well known problem with 2005 sequoias that toyota refuses to fix despite the dangers if there were a crash and somebody needed to exit from the hatch area.
When turning corners in motion, the traction control light illuminates causing a loss of braking and acceleration. there is now way to control the vehicles acceleration/deceleration until the light goes off. typically last about 3-5 seconds. this happens frequently every time the vehicle is driven.
While driving at 35 mph, the check engine light, vsc off light, vsc trac light, and the emergency brake light all came on at once, and the vehicle stopped accelerating, and i experienced a dramatic decrease in vehicle power. i drove the vehicle home noticing a drastic change in acceleration as the sequoia would not accelerate normally; it would accelerate at a significantly reduced rate, topping out at 35mph on the flats, 30 mph on an incline, i was able to reach 70mph going down hill on a highway. since that day, during start up, the engine makes a high-pitch vacuum noise, which drops off and normal engine sound returns. all dashboard lights are normal, until 10-15 seconds after start, when the vsc off/vsc trac/brake lights all illuminate, and remain on until the engine is turned off and the poor acceleration and decrease power are now the norm. this is a very dangerous safety issue should this happen to someone accelerating out of an intersection, or needing more power on a highway.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 toyota sequoia. the contact stated that the brake warning light illuminated. in addition, the vsc track off and the check engine warning lights illuminated. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 103,000.
Within the first two weeks, after purchasing the vehicle, the "brake" light, "vsc trac" light, and "trac off" light came on and there was a terrible grinding sound when attempting to stop. it was very hard to stop but luckily i was in a parking lot when it happened the first time. the "brake" light has continued to come on multiple times per week since may of 2015 and the other two lights still come on occasionally. in fact, on my 800 foot drive back from picking up my lunch today, the "brake" light was on. each time the other 2 come on, it causes the breaks to grind and it is very hard to stop. there was just over 120,000 miles on the vehicle at purchase. i have read numerous forums online stating issues with this model, 2004, and 2003 models for the same issue but toyota has refused to do a recall and expects customers to pay for something is obviously an issue throughout these particular models. i think something needs to be done about this issue. i believe it is a safety concern toyota needs to be responsible for!!!
When slowing to a stop, my sequoia periodically grinds when braking and the vsc sensor, abs sensor and trac sensor light turn on and stay on. *tr
Vsc vsc traction control lights came on as well as the check engine light. the vehicle was accelerating poorly. the dealer replaced the air injection control drivers and then all of the warning lights were off. the following day all of the warning lights were back on again and the vehicle was accelerating poorly again. i returned the vehicle to the dealer and i was told that another repair was needed now. the air pump set needs to be replaced for $1,700.00. thousands of sequoia owners have reported this problem but toyota has not issued a recall.
As i started driving the car my vsc off vsc trac and brake light when on when i tried to brake it made a terrible sound as i continued to press on the brake it made a hssssssing sound like air was coming out i got home and googled the problem i guess im not the only one toyota is aware of problem but will not fix 2003 was fix but the rest aren't i did call toyota and filed a complaint and the told me they couldn't do anything about it was up to me and my responsibility if its an ongoing problem and very dangerous toyota should recall i know have it with an experience mechanic and will hopefully get results soon. *tr
When accelerating from low speed or stops the sequoia activates the vsc and the traction control system and refuses to accelerate. happens consistently but not consistently enough to know when to expect it. the traction control/skid control light activates for around 5 seconds and then vehicle returns to normal operation. it can be nerveracking. from all my investigation it seems identical to the problems that led to the 2003 sequoia recall. i do believe that this is a significant safety issue. again from my research this is a very common problem among many model years of sequoias. *tr
Vsc trac, vsc off, brake, abs lights... all on, all at once. this has happened several times now. it comes on for a couple of days and then resets itself no codes found. this time it came on again and limited the speed to about 35mph while my wife was driving on a major highway. she was able to get it back home safely thank goodness. i have been reading about similar cases for this model and do not know what to do.please help. we have just had it serviced about a month ago for timing belt replacement etc. this is my wife's primary vehicle and i can't afford to put any more money in this. is there a recall for this with so many cases of the same issue i have read about? *tr
While driving my vehicle on the highway to work, my brake warning light on the dash came on. i pulled over cut the truck off then back on, the light was gone. the next day driving home from work, it was pouring down rain and the brake warning light came on again, along with the trac and vsc warning lights. i was only driving about 25 mph since i was in the city and not on the highway yet. i pulled over cut the truck off and then back on, the lights were out, but within another mile they were back on. i avoided the highway since my brakes were having problems and it was pouring rain. the next day they were off so i drove back to work but when i was on the way home they all came back on, this time it was the afternoon and not raining so i took it to the toyota dealership. they ran the codes and said my codes were c1247 stroke sensor and c136 master press sensor - they said this was part of a skid control ecm that controlled my antilock braking system! very scary to think my brakes were not functioning properly. i was told it could be fixed for $1042.82 and may also need to replace the master cylinder at $715.85. when i looked up the problem online i found that this was very common failure with 2003-05 models and that toyota had already recalled the 2003 problem. my service tech said that he was not aware this was a common problem, although there is a service bulletin out for it. i was very scared to drive, but the tech said that my brakes still worked but that the anti lock braking system will not stop "on a dime" but will skid or slide. when i asked to speak to the service manager (all were on vacation) i spoke with the lead tech on shift, who told me alot of what i read online was junk and there was no recall on my 2005 sequoia but he gave me a number to toyota complaint department:1-800-331-4331. i have not driven my vehicle since taking it home that day. *tr
Problem with 2005 toyota sequoia electronic stability control. while driving the vehicle on the highway the check engine light, vsc trac light, and vsc off light came on. vehicle instantly lost power and torque converter would not lock up. vehicle lost speed in traffic very quickly and had extreme difficulty going up an incline. since the first instance it has happened about six times. disconnecting battery clears issue temporarily. many others with vehicle have had same issue and toyota has a tsb on the issue but will not recall or cover several $k cost. problem still arises after vsc computer replacement for some people. prior years had recalls for same issue, but they ignore the 2005 model year. issue could be life threatening on public roads with sudden loss of all power and stability control. *js
Vsc and abs lights are going on after horrible shuttering sound from front of vehicle. my wife has experienced this four times on a major highway and we are concerned about safety. i had recently experienced this last weekend. there is a sudden loss of control of the vehicle being aware of the emergency brake is the only way to stop this vehicle.toyota has many complaints about this and they need to recall this problem before someone gets rear ended on a highway. *tr
We noticed that our frame had severe rust last winter. (2/14) we always did the regular recommended maintenance. we purchased this new in '05. i'm sure others haven't reported this as they haven't looked for this problem not expecting it from such an expensive vehicle that you would expect to be very reliable. we did put in a claim to toyota last february and we were told that it wasn't a problem that they had many complaints on. i know there were recalls in the past with toyota vehicles that had the tubular frames. this also has a tubular frame. we also have the same problem with vsc and tracking that many others on this site have complained about. *tr
Trac off, vsc trac , abs and parking brake lights all came on and stayed on while driving. vehicle has been doing this intermittently for about a month now on a regular basis. has done it over the past couple years but maybe once every several months. resets after vehicle is turned off. looked up issue on internet and was surprised to find all the posts about this issue and the lack of toyota to recall whatever is causing this issue. *tr
The vsc, the vsc trac and the brake lights all went on. my brakes started to pulse without me doing it. when you turn the car off it re-sets and then will do it again at a later time. *js
I was told the vehicle control and stability system was off. and is a common issue with this year make and model. vsc and trac off light keeps coming on. also secondarily valve stuck closed. p1445 & p1442 codes. also another known issue for this vehicle year make and model. toyota is aware but won't fix after certain miles. *tr
Vehicle vsc trac lights, brake lights and wsc dash board indicators comes on while driving. this problem is constant and more persistent each time the vehicle is driven. *ln
While applying the brakes there is a grinding noise coming from the front of the vehicle with a shudder and the vsc, trac off and brake lights come on and stay on. this has happened several times recently. also the brake light will come on at random times. everything resets when the ignition is turned off. when the vehicle shudders it does not seem to be slowing down. i have checked the toyota web site and they do not show any recalls. also i have checked on-line and there are several people that seem to be having the same problem. this is a very unsafe problem and i feel that toyota needs to fix this with a recall. they are aware of the problem and it is very expensive fix. *tr
While driving straight down the street, i heard a grinding sound and all of the vsc trac warning lights came on. after stopping and restarting the car, the car behaved normal again. this is the second occurrence. i'm presuming that the grinding noise might be the brakes pulsating. it is not safe for the brakes to automatically apply themselves during safe driving conditions. *tr
Loss of abs system, vsc & traction control on interstate at high rate of speed barely avoided collisions. unsafe. vsc/abs/e brake light all on. *tr
Driving on the highway and took an exit. slowed down and turned the steering wheel. the vsa and trac lights came on, the car lost power for several seconds, pushing the gas pedal didn't do anything for several seconds and eventually, heard a loud noise as if the engine was re-engaging and then some grinding noise and the car was back to "normal" driving condition. since the first incident, has happened several times over again. very dangerous considering there were cars behind me and could have ran into me. similar experience pulling into a parking lot. made a left turn and the car just stopped. people were honking behind me and the car would not move. had to turn the ignition off and then back on to make it work again. *tr
Vsc, trac, abs and brake lights would all come on a once. they would usually reset after on the next start. it has progressed over the past year to the lights staying on most of the time and only occasionally resetting to off. i have no abs or stability control due to this malfunction. even with the lights on, there were no codes on system when i went to the dealer. they recommend replacing the skid control ecu which is very expensive. this seems to be a very common problem. *tr
I started my car and drove off, and i noticed the vsc trac lights stayed on. the vehicle appears to drive fine, but the vsc trac lights stayed on. upon doing my own research online i discovered that many sequoia owners have experienced the same issue, but toyota has refused to do a recall. this issue with vsc trac is a huge safety concern. through my research i discovered that the vehicle could lose power at any time, and many owners state they hear a grinding noise as the vehicle pulls to the right or left. *tr
Check engine light, vsc trac and break light constantly. *js
My 2005 toyota sequoia's electronic stability control began to lose power causing my car to only go around 20mph. this is very dangerous when driving on an interstate at speeds of 65mph and then the warning lights come on and my car just slows down to about 20 mph in the middle of traffic. the toyota motor corporation needs to address this issue and have a recall on their 2005 toyota sequoia vehicles. they did do a recall on the toyota sequoias for the 2008 - 2010 models with this same problem. i have read that many other owners of 2005 toyota sequoias have had the same problem. i had to have my car towed to the toyota dealership and they said that it would cost around 3,200 to fix. i feel that the toyota motor corporation needs to do a recall and fix this faulty system on their toyota sequoias. totally frustrated and plan on telling everyone i see driving a sequoia about the problem i have had and tell them they need to consider getting rid of their vehicle. *tr
The skid control computer on my 2005 toyota sequoia malfunctioned causing low power/low acceleration. the engine has 65,000 miles. because this part failed, several engine parts malfunctioned. the engine nearly blew up as a result. toyota recalled 2003-04 models for this same problem, but has only issued a tsb for the 2005 model. the service department at the dealership explained that my engine would not have nearly exploded had the skid computer not been faulty. i filed a complaint with toyota, and they explained that this part is not considered to be a problem in the 2005 model, and will not assist in repairing it. the estimated repair for this is $4000. *tr
When backing out of garage and applying brakes, the abs motor was heard and then the brake light came on. then the vsc trac, vsc off and abs lights came on. the brake pedal felt mushy so a visit to dealer was made. the concern was addressed with service, and they came back with : "test drove car and inspected brakes. found dtc's c1223, c1244, c1247, c1310. provided estimate for updated skid control ecu @ $905 + tax". as the customer, i declined to schedule. then during a past winter storm, backing out of driveway again, the same thing occurred. very concerned that this braking system is defected in any wet/snowy/ice weather. i have had to divert to driving my 1998 honda accord in snow instead of the sequoia. i am very concerned driving this sequoia with my kids in car and braking at anytime. i feel an updated software/logic in ecu or an updated skid control ecu is valid enough to say they have a known issue that is 'safety' related, and toyota should buck up covering this as warranty. i have contacted toyota motor sales, usa, inc. and my case is filed at their headquarter office under my name and file #[xxx]. they stated their is no customer compliance issued recall/bulletin or warranty available to cover my concern due to its age and mileage. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Slowing down to turn the vsc trac< trac off < check engine<brake lights come on. this has happened three times and i temporarily lose control of braking and excelleration. this is dangerous and nearly caused me to enter traffic in an intersection. *tr
While driving, the brake warning light, vsc off light, and vsc trac light all came on. pulled over and shut engine off. restarted the car and lights were initially off but came right back on as soon as i started driving. had advance auto parts hook computer to it, and it isn't throwing a code at all. *tr
Vsc, trac off, and emergency brake lights all stayed on after car was started. for the next week or so they would go off then come back on and then stayed on continually. i took it to my dealership on june 16, 2012 and they said the skid control computer needed replaced and they had to order the part. on june 19, 2012 they replaced this part at a charge of $1013.56. on june 22, 2012 all these lights have again come on. i was told at the time of the initial diagnosis there had been a bulletin issued about this issue. i ask why it wasn't recalled if it was a known safety issue and they just said it was a bulletin not a recall. *tt
The brake light constantly goes on and off. trac off, vsc trac and check engine lights all come on. a loud rattling noise coming from the front end of vehicle and vibration when starting up the vehicle. engine will not accelerate randomly while driving and the trac control light goes on at the same time. i first experienced this while going up a mountain and needed to turn around because my vehicle started to decelerate even with the gas completely floored. i noticed that there are a lot of complaints for the same issue. is toyota waiting for a death to happen before they do something. this is a family vehicle and i'm transporting my 2 and 5 year old. something needs to be done about this before something tragic happens!! *tr
3 incidents in the last 90days, each one while the vehicle was in motion between 15-40mph with 5 passengers and in traffic. on each occasion, the brakes suddenly engaged, causing a loud bang/thunk sound followed by a severe shake in the vehicle. speed & control was drastically reduced to the point of being uncontrollable. within seconds, the vsc trac, vsc off, brake and maintenance lamps illuminated. vehicle was very difficult to drive, as if the brakes were fully engaged. after pulling over, we shutdown the vehicle and let it sit a short period of time, on restarting, all lamps were on, the vehicle was drive-able however, the brakes we still being applied but slightly allowing the vehicle to move but on release of the accelerator, the vehicle slowed rapidly. after dropping off vehicle to a local non-dealer service center on each of the first 2 incidents, the codes were no-longer active and the shop indicated that nothing could be done unless the codes were active again. research indicates the 2003-04 had skid control computer recall, reflashing/reprogramming the computer but only a tsb was issued on the 2005 model year. after the third incident, the most severe, we went to a toyota dealer. they confirmed the recall & the tsb. in discussions with the service advisor's and technicians, they both reported that they have had numerous 2005 models with the same issue. the dealer informed us that the skid control computer will need to be replaced at a total cost of $1100. however, numerous posts on online blogs & forums indicate the problem persists even after the skid control computer was replaced. we are lucky that this event did not result is an accident as we were in traffic and vehicles behind us would not expect our vehicle to suddenly brake causing them crash into us at full speed. this is a severe known safety issue and toyota should issue a recall. *tr
Vsc trac, vsc off and abs lights all come on at once. i took the vehicle to my mechanic and he couldn't pull the code as it was off by the time i got there. brakes had good pad left. the light came on 3 times today and went off just as unexpectedly. *tr
I have a newly purchased, one owner, preowned sequoia, the vehicle has been serviced every 5000 miles and all recommended maintenance has been completed at the same dealer each time. i have recently taken it for inspection and the dealer failed it because the vsc skid control ecu needs to be replaced because of error codes. this is a $2300 dollar repair. after looking online this is an very common issue. so much so that toyota issued a tsb and changed the part out for a new one on future models. i feel like toyota is very aware of this defect which is a brake related concern which to me is a severe safety issue. i would like toyota to own up to this and pay for the costly repair. i read on a forum that everyone experiencing this issue should complain to nhtsa in hope of forcing toyota's hand. i am canadian that exported this vehicle and i have been told that i need to deal with us toyota. *kb
