Toyota's 2019 rav4 limited hybrid boasts of having a 14.5 gallon fuel capacity. when i fill my tank, i can fill it to 10 gallons maximum. the service advisor, aaron england, insists that this is normal. he stated that no cars can be filled to capacity. i am not wanting to fill to capacity. toyota is not acknowledging this is inaccurate and says my car either has 3-4 gallons, but the sensor can not detect it or i have a tank smaller than claimed. they will not investigate. when fueling my vehicle, it stops fueling when a little more than an 1/8 of a tank shows remains until full. online, there is much evidence from other owners that this is an issue and toyota is refusing to offer help.
There is a problem with the gas tank on my rav4. it is a 14 gallon gas tank and i'm only able to ever fit 9-9.5 gallons of gas in it. i have spilled gas out of the vehicle trying to fully fill the vehicle and it still will not show as full on the gas gauge. i'm supposed to have over 500+ miles in range and now when i fill it the range only updates to 380 miles or so. between spilling gas at the pump and not knowing the actual range before i run out of gas, this is a problem.
When filling up the gas tank, it maxes out at 9-10gal when the tank is supposedly a 14+ gallon tank. i will wait until 20 miles to empty and then fill up and it still only fills up partially.
2019 rav4 hybrid will not fill completely when the low fuel warning system activates. the 14. 5 gallon tank will only take 9.5 to 9.7 gallons leaving about 5 gallons in the tank. i am not certain if i can drive further using the 5 gallons or would be left sitting and "run out of fuel." other 2019 rav4 hybrid owners are reporting a similar problem. so far toyota has made no attempt to correct the problem. this has happened since the first attempt to fill the tank. the rav4 currently has about 8500 miles. there needs to be a recall.
Since i purchased this car in late august i have not been able to get more than 8 gallons of fuel into the 14.5 gallon tank. due to this issue the car has also only been showing it's getting around 25 mpg when it was advertised between 35-40. i have also been having computer issues and key fob issues with the car. toyota corporate acknowledged something is wrong but has no eta on a fix. i oftentimes do not feel safe driving the car as i never know how much gas is in it as the tank and computer systems are so off.
Less than one month ago, i purchased a new 2019 toyota rav4 hybrid limited that was built in japan and had only 7 miles on the odometer. the car was advertised to give combined 40 mpg and have a 14.5 gallon fuel tank. i now have approximately 2 thousand miles on the car and i have experienced the same issue every time that i get gas in multiple states and gas stations. the tank will not fill up and the gas pump shuts off before the tank is filled. every time that i fill up, the fuel gauge always stays about 2-3 lines below the full mark. two days ago i drove the car until it stopped displaying a miles-to-empty reading and simply read, 'fuel needed.' minutes before giving this reading, it said that i had approximately 31 miles left. i checked the toyota remote connect app on my phone the next morning and it read that i had 24 miles until empty. i drove to the gas station and was only able to put in 8.9 gallons of gas before the fuel pump shut off. i attempted to continue fueling two more times but each time i tried to top off, i only got a little more gas before it kept shutting off. after topping off twice, i achieve a grand total of 9.4 gallons of gas purchased. if the tank is supposed to hold 14.5 gallons and i was only able to add 9 to a car that was supposedly on empty, that is 5 gallons of gas that is missing. i'm aware that many toyota have approximately 2 gallons left in reserve when the gas light goes on, however, 9+2=12 and still leaves the car short of about 2 gallons of gas. this is dangerous and is a safety hazard as it will result in many people trying to top off their gas by forcing fuel into the tanks and being unable to determine when the stop. this can cause gas leaks and an increase in emissions or risk of fire. it appears that many of the 2019 toyota hybrids that were built in japan are experiencing this issue.
I purchased car sept 2019, since purchasing i have been unable to fill my gas tank to full capacity. i only fill up 9 gallons before it kicks off, my range has never been more than 450 miles when i was told 550 miles before fill up. this apparently was a problem before i purchased by car but was not disclosed at time of purchase. reported to dealership and just keep getting told waiting on a fix from toyota.
The fuel level sensor is likely malfunctioning. if it is not the sensor, the factory installed a smaller than advertised fuel tank. this vehicle is supposed to have a 14.5 gallon (us) fuel tank. unfortunately, the fuel gauge will read empty after 9.5-10.5 gallons of fuel is consumed. thereby, leaving 4-5 gallons of fuel unaccounted for and reducing the safe drive-able range by 150 - 200 miles. moreover, when topped up the fuel gauge will sometimes read slightly less than full or the first half of the fuel gauge will be depleted more quickly than the latter half. this leads me to believe that the issue lies with the fuel level sensor itself.
Gas tank will not fill. max is between half and three-quarter fill. called toyota and opened an incident report. toyota advised this is a known problem but no current fix. i drive extensively and purchased a hybrid for this reason. i cannot use the car as described. i was told to bring it to a local delearship. the dealership acted unaware of the problem. due to my extensive travel i am concerned about the state of no forseeable solution. if this is not corrected by toyota before lemon laws expire where i am to turn? i purchased this car at the sister dealership in maine but reside in new hampshire. due to my extensive driving requirement for work i already have approx. 11,500 miles on it. i am very concerned this will hang without a solid answer and i will run out of time on miles to report under lemon law. i want the vehicle fixed but am concerned i will be left high and dry based on timing.
Fuel tank appears unable to be filled completely. although pump clicks off (on multiple station's pumps), fill level on fuel gauge is seldom above 7/8 full, and sometimes less. during one service visit to address this, dealership stated there were only 9.2 gallons in the 14.5 gallon tank immediately after a fill-up.
I bought my brand new car in aug 2019. a 2019 toyota rav4 hybrid xse. my fuel gauge does not go all the way to full when i fill up on gas. i noticed this after having the car for 1 month. i made an appointment for service and took the car in. the service employee said that toyota is aware of the problem and there is no fix. he said there was no reason to leave my car with them. i called toyota corp the next day and they said there is no recall for this issue, and that they have never been notified by nhtsa for this issue. because the gauge never fills to the same spot every time, there is no way to know what my true mpg is. so, this issue could involve falsifying the mpg of the hybrid. but because no one is interested in reviewing further, there is no way of telling how bad the problem is. i have another appointment to bring my car back into the service department to look at the car. this is a very wide spread issue when looking online to the countless other car owners experiencing the same issue. attaching an email i just received from the service employee that i spoke to, showing that the dealership is well aware of this issue and there not being a fix. yet, they have not stopped selling this car, and are likely not notifying the customers of the potential issue. i will be seeking car replacement from toyota. this is a brand new car. i should not have to wait for a recall to come or not come. i am willing to provide any information needed for you to proceed with the recall for all customers that have gotten nowhere with toyota.
Multiple fuel spills happened while the 2019 rav4 hybrid was stationary, being refueled. the manual provided states that the low fuel light illuminates when there is 2.2 gallons or less fuel in the tank, and it states the fuel capacity is 14.5 gallons. when fueling after the low fuel light illuminates, and the fuel gauge indicates "e"; the tank overfills with approximately 9.3 gallons, or 3 gallons short of what was expected. this results in hazardous fuel spills when the attendant attempts to fill the tank. also, the vehicles range is less than expected which can result in diversions and/or a stranded driver.
I am not able to fully fill up the fuel tank as expected by toyota specifications. it can put barely 9 gallons (toyota communicate tanks can have 15 gallons) when the tank is empty and after the pump stops. the fuel level does not always go to the top of the dashboard indicator but i cannot put more fuel since pumps stops. i tried multiple gas station and many ways to fill up the tank, the issue is always there. the car range does not go over 500 miles when it is sold to do more.
2019 rav4 hybrid exhibits fueling problems, consistently. parked on level concrete, shut off, in "refuel" status, at the fuel island, it dependably suffers abject failure at attempts to refill the gasoline tank at the fuel pump. with the fuel pump nozzle set to lowest flow setting, at any moment, the fuel being pumped down the filler tube surges back up the filler tube, occasionally spilling out onto the side of the car and the ground. other times, with the pump nozzle set to lowest flow settings, it may automatically and arbitrarily shut off after 1 gallon or 4 gallons, when the miles driven along with the fuel gauge indicates the tank requires at least 10 gallons. it is impossible to know from one fill-up to the next fill-up if the tank is full, close to full, or several gallons shy of full. refueling the rav4 hybrid is a challenge that defeats the best mechanical and fluid dynamics aware person trying to fill the tank. this issue is ongoing and has been occurring since the vehicle was purchased new with 9 miles on the odometer on august 19, 2019.
When fueling, hose stops and clicks, but tank only reads a little bit over 3/4 full. when topping off multiple times (which the gas station advises not to do), tank reads up to 7/8 max. tank fills little over 10 gals, but marketed at 14.5.
Qwner of a 2019 rav 4 hybrid, xse. i've owned the vehicle since early august 2019. and have felt extremely frustrated with being unable to 'fill' the gas tank to it's capacity. it's exasperating that with a 14 gallon tank, at fill up it will accept only 9-9.5 gallons of fuel at most before the fuel fill sensor will not accept further refueling. when i purchased the car in august, driving the car off the lot, the estimated mileage on a full tank was 513 miles. i have not been able to fill the tank to get that estimation of mileage since. the best i've been able to get is 443, the tank will not accept the fuel. additionally, while i expected to avg. 40-42 miles/gal, i get approximately 34-35 mpg. this too is also ridiculous. i drive the car in econo mode to further enhance better mileage. i will report to toyota...i use the car mainly for highway driving and not being able to pass a few gas stations, is not why i bought this car! i feel that the estimated height mpg was grossly overstated by toyota.
When attempts are made to put fuel in the vehicle the pump stops at 3/4 fill. this does not mean there is 3/4 the quantity the gas tank holds. it is easy to run out of fuel since the gas gauge reading is inaccurate. it takes multiple starting the pump to put more gas in but it is unclear how much it really takes to be full. this is dangerous since running out of fuel while driving can lead to an accident. this happens when the car is stationary in front of the gas pump.
The fuel tank is faulty and does not hold 14.5 gallons of gas as listed in the owners manual. the gas gauge is faulty and is not accurate. otherwise toyota is committing fraud by making such claims which my rav4 does not deliver. this has been getting worse since i purchased the car in july 2019. the tank can only be filled with 10 gallons of gas after the fuel gauge is on empty and the 'distance to empty' is zero with refuel now warning. there is a problem with a faulty gas gauge which is not accurate. even after filling with 10 gallons, the fuel gauge does not register full and shows only 7/8 tank filled. 14.5 gallons x 35.7 mpg should show 517 miles to empty, but mileage computer only shows 392 mile range. 392 mile range divided by 35.7 mpg is 10.9 gallons in the tank. if this car has a 14.5 gallon tank it is faulty. i have no idea how much gas is in the rav4 and range. this will prevents me from taking long cross country trips in rural areas unless i have to gas up at small rural gas stations and not allow me the range to keep driving during long trips. i am told not to let the gas tank run dry since that could cause overheating of the fuel pump which could start a fire if hot enough. i want toyota to fix my gas tank and gas gauge so that it will hold 14.5 gallons of gas and allow me a driving range of over 500 miles as advertised. i want a safe car that gives me the mileage and claimed range which are why i bought the car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 toyota rav4. on numerous occasions, the contact was unable to fill the vehicle with fuel to the advertised capacity. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact took the vehicle to ira toyota of danvers (99 andover st, danvers, ma 01923, (978) 739-8300) and was informed that they would not be able to inspect the vehicle until he brought it in for scheduled maintenance. the manufacturer was not notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 23.
Unable to completely fill the gas tank when refueling. pump shuts off when tank is approximately 7/8 full and am forced to "top off" to completely fill tank.
The fuel tank will not fill up all the way. i live in oregon and we can not top of our tanks at the pump. the most fuel we have been able to put in when the empty light is on is 8.4 gallons.
Fuel tank does not properly fill, and often results in gas spilling out of the vehicle as a owner is forced to manually "top off" the vehicle to fill the tank. others are experiencing this same issue: https://www.rav4world.com/threads/difficulty-with-getting-fuel-tank-full.298909/
I can never get a full tank of gas. the most i've ever been able to put in still leaves me several notches below full. i get about 400 miles per tank whereas it was at least 430 after the dealer filled it.
My brand new 2019 rav4 hybrid xle has a fuel tank that is 14.5 gallons, but will not fill above 9 to 11 gallons at any time. in short, my fuel tank does not fill all the way and i am therefore short on overall car range, from 580miles to about 360-390 miles per tank. i have made an online complaint to ardmore toyota of pa with no response. i have roughly 6,000 miles on my car, but have noticed this is as low as 400 miles in the odometer.
Cannot completely fill the fuel tank without manually forcing the fuel after the pump shuts off. it stops filling at about 3/4 full or about 9 gallons. the fuel tank holds 14.5 gallons. it is risky and not safe to manually force fuel into the tank to get it full. you have no idea when it is full until the fuel overflows. fuel overflow risks fire and is just one of the safety issues. i began noticing this issue after a couple fill ups this past july. it happens with each attempt to refuel.
My 2019 toyota rav4 hybrid limited built in japan has a fuel fill up issue that pevents the car from being fully fueled under normal circumstances. the gas pump will shut off 1-2 gallons before the tank is actually full, meaning that in order to get a full tank, the user has to force fuel into the tank. this presents two problems: 1) this is a concern because there is some sort of pressure issue inside the gas tank that's prevening proper filling which could result in gas spewing out of the filler hole and presenting an environmental/safety/fire hazzard. 2) with a gas tank that's listed at 14.5 gallons that advertises a range of 600+ miles on a tank of gas, you effectively have a useable fuel quantity and range well below what toyota advertises meaning they are engaging in false advertising. my dealer is aware of this issue since other owners are experiencing the same or similar issues, but so far, toyota is unable to address this fuel filling issue.
Vehicle will only fill 9.5gal at pump. requires not recommended force pumping in order to achieve full tank. vehicle system guage will incorrectly read full despite missing 4-5gallons. fuel guage rapidly drops quickly. i have given toyota 4 visits to fix the issue. they have replaced fuel system but issue persist.
The fuel tank does not fill completely so you do not get the full mileage range of 41 mpg as advertised.
While driving down i-25 south of denver, co in heavy traffic at 75 mph, the engine abruptly shut off. i suddenly had no engine power, power brakes or power steering. luckily i was able to coast to the shoulder, but came close to hitting or being hit by several vehicles. when we made it to the shoulder all the warning lights and messages were appearing on the dash. after letting the car sit a few minutes i restarted it, and it did run, though all the warning lights were still on. there was a dealership 9 miles from my location, so i slowly made my to arapahoe toyota. they ran a diagnostic and said that something caused the fuel to be shut off to the engine. they did not know why, and could not replicate the problem. they suspect it is an electrical issue as i also found out that the right rear brake light does not work intermittently. since they could not replicate the problem, and had no loaner cars, they essentially told me to come back the following monday and hope for the best in the meantime. since i was heading to vacation this is impractical, so i was stuck driving a car i'm afraid to drive. my next step is i am taking the vehicle to the nearest dealership in fort collins, co, and tell them what happened and that i want the issue resolved, the brake light electrical issue fixed, and be assured that the car is safe. i've never had a vehicle die while driving like that, let alone one with only 4580 miles. i'm apprehensive about driving the car 26 miles in the mountains to the nearest dealership, and so far toyota has been no help.
Vehicle does not function as advertised, ecm appears to change shifting, hybrid, and gasoline usage at lower temps. pre-collision system malfunctions with any visibility reduction, causing the vehicle to suddenly brake at highway speeds or to not brake at all with radar cruise active. also have same issue as others with not being able to fill tank more than 10 gallons of 14. mileage is as low as 24 mpg for a whole tank, driving very conservatively.
My car has a 14.5 gallon tank. i have only been able to put 8-9 gallons max into my car. the pump shuts off/reads as full. i should be able to get 500+ miles in my hybrid with a 14.5 gallon tank. i average 380 mp fill up. i paid big money for this car and would like toyota to fix the fuel tank problem.
There is no indicator or low fuel warning when the fuel tank is empty. plus when filling from empty to full and the gasoline station fuel pump kicks off, only 8 to 9 gallons of gasoline (the tank capacity is 14.5 gallons) is put into the vehicle's fuel tank and the fuel tank indicator only reads 7/8 of a tank.
I cannot fill the fuel tank to it's capacity. fuel pump will shut off prematurely at about 3/4 full. that said, range is nowhere near as advertised.
My hybrid battery has yet to fully charge. i have only recieved double talk from 3 different service care specialist stating "the hybrid battery is never going to fully charge. and if it does, it will not last as long as the 8 year warranty." i then ask if others {owners of the toyota rav4 hybrid battery } have the same hybrid battery issues i have. the service care specialist all replied"all hybrid batteries have fully charged"
When filling my tank, auto-shutoff happens when the tank is at least 2 gallons shy of being full. i know this because my gas gauge does not indicate full and i am able to add an additional 2-2.5 gallons to my tank, though it takes a while because i have to push through all the auto shutoffs. it happens every time i fill up regardless os the station i'm fueling at.
My 2019 rav4 hybrid has a toyota advertised fuel tank capacity of 14.5 gallons. till date, virtually all my fuel stops have resulted in no more than 11 gallons of fuel. i would like to raise this matter to nhtsa and urge nhtsa to investigate matter further. the biggest question i have is if there is a law or safety rule that toyota must follow surrounding this issue? my concern is that if any residual fuel (which in this case is greater than 3 gallons), may cause safety hazards for drivers and this issue needs to be fixed.
Tank will not fill to full. several gallons less. approximately 3/4 a tank is all that it will accept.
Unable to completely fill gas tank to full on 2019 toyota rav4 hybrid limited. can only put 9 gallons in 14 gallon tank (capacity in manual) when tank is empty. dealer suggests "topping" off which has already resulted in a fuel spill at the gas station. reported issue to dealer and told that toyota is aware of the issue but currently does not have a fix. this is both a user safety and environmental safety issue and is *extremely* common to 2019 hybrid rav4 users per user groups on the internet.
Difficulty getting the fuel tank filled. the gas clicks off at about 3/4 tank. to fill requires multiple times of topping off with multiple times it clicks off. often 2 to 3 gallons can be added after the first click off. this occurs at multiple different stations regardless of fill speed. also fuel miles to empty highly inaccurate. dealer claims no fix available at this time!!!
I have been unable to fill the gas tank full for the entire duration of ownership. the pump cuts off about 3 gallons short. the problem is getting progressively worse and topping up doesn't help either. the dealership was unable to help saying toyota is aware of the problem but they do not have any solution for it.
The engine is non-responsive when making right hand & up hill turns. i can depress the gas pedal three times before the car starts to accelerate. this is dangerous! what is going on?
Toyota advertised the 2019 rav 4 hybrid as having a 14.5 gallon gas tank with a driving range of apx. 580 miles per tank. the tank only accepts 10.5 gallons and shows as full and only has a driving range of 380 to 420 miles per tank. the driving range is one of the reasons i purchased this car over its competition.
When filling the gas tank, the pump will stop before the gas tank is full, usually 2-3 gallons short of being full. this happens every time i try to fill the tank since i bought the car in may, 2019. this results in more frequent stops at the gas station or making efforts to try to top off the gas tank by trying to slow down the gas being pumped in. with a very slow rate, the gas pump may not shut off then leading to fuel spillage.
Fuel spills when filling gas. fuel tank does not fill to capacity at first click so when i add additional fuel in an attempt to completely fill tank, fuel sometimes spills out.
Fuel tank is defective. does't accept a full tank of gas. 3/4 at most before pump shuts off. not getting miles per tank/efficiency that was advertised. filed a case with toyota and dealer but no fix available. problem started as soon as i drove it off the lot in may 2019.
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 toyota rav4. when the fuel tank was filled up, it registered 3/4 full instead of completely full. the vehicle was taken to big two toyota of chandler (480-302-4651, located at 1250 s gilbert rd, chandler, az 85286), but the failure could not be duplicated. the technician stated that it could be a design flaw with the fuel tank. the failure was not remedied. the manufacturer stated that the failure was a known issue and a claim manager would call the contact. the contact was not called back. the failure mileage was approximately 200.
Gas tank is supposedly 14 gallons but vehicle will not take more than 9 gallons.
No matter how many times i fill up the tank with gas, i can never reach anything over 9 gallons, and this car reportedly has a 14 5 gallon tank. the dealership already replaced my original gas tank, before that my car would never get to the f on the fuel gauge. now it tells me i have low fuel and need to fill up, but only lets me put on 9.5 gallons max, even when it tells me i have zero miles left before empty. since the fuel economy and size of this hybrid gas tank are what lead me to the car in the first place, i'm incredibly disappointed and have gotten nowhere with toyota customer service. i bought the car in april and still, more than 6 months later, they don't have a fix. this is super upsetting and since this is my first experience with toyota, i don't plan on ever buying another. another month and i'm going to file under the lemon law because this car definitely is not what it is supposed to be and no one at the company seems to care. i've taken it in to multiple dealerships, multiple times and they tell me there is no fix yet. they don't think the issue is the fuel tank, but the system that tells you how much fuel you have left in the car, the same system that tells you your average mpg. it's telling you that your tank is empty too soon, so when you fill up, you don't really need to. while logging my trip mileage, i'm only ever able to get at most 350 miles per tank, instead of the promised over 500 miles per tank with an low-balled average mpg of 37.
Fuel tank won't fill all the way. when gas pump cuts off, tank is only partially filled. range available is far short of advertised range. can hold pump lever on, but this is a safety issue no matter what state you're in. toyota dealership gives runaround without really seeming interested in fixing the problem. this is the same problem many other "fuel" entries are citing. it's been like this since purchase in april. i used april as date happened. (below). it has been 7 months and toyota is still ignoring the problem. have complained to dealer at least twice.
Since purchasing 2019 rav4 hybrid xle in april 2019, fuel tank does not fill to capacity. fuel pump (regardless of which gas station i am at) shuts off several gallons short of filling the gas tank and the fuel indicator on the dashboard indicates approximately 3/4 full. this occurs every time the vehicle is fueled. unable to attain fuel range for the vehicle due to fuel tank unable to be filled to capacity unless i force extra gas in the car by consistently trying to "top off" to fill with more gas (as there is still extra capacity upon the pump clicking off at first). contacted toyota about the issue in july 2019 and december 2019 but no resolution or explanation was provided on why this issue is occurring.
