Maintaining the performance and safety of your Toyota RAV4 requires routine maintenance. A vital but frequently disregarded component of routine maintenance is replacing the brake fluid.
The effectiveness of brake fluid can be reduced over time due to contamination, endangering the dependability of your braking system.
In this tutorial, we'll go over how to change the brake fluid in your Toyota RAV4 to help you maintain the best possible condition for your car.

Before you begin replacing the brake fluid in your Toyota RAV4, make sure you have the necessary tools and supplies on hand:
Make sure the parking brake is applied and your Toyota RAV4 is on a level surface. Begin by loosening the lug nuts on the wheel you intend to work on when the time is right; however, do not remove them entirely just yet.
Carefully raise your Toyota RAV4 off the ground with a jack, then use jack stands to secure it. Ensure everything is solid and safe before working on your car because safety is the most important thing.
Remove the wheel and set it aside when your RAV4 is safely lifted. This will facilitate access to the brake components and simplify the task.

There is a brake bleeder valve on every brake caliper on your Toyota RAV4. It will be necessary to locate the valve for the wheel you're working on. Usually, it is located on the back of the caliper. Make sure to remove any rubber cap that may be covering the valve.
To begin, drain the old brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir using a turkey baster or syringe. Doing this ensures the bleeding process does not pull any old, contaminated fluid back into the braking system. Dispose of the old brake fluid properly.

Attach one end of the transparent plastic hose to the bleeder valve, and place the other end in the container used to collect used brake fluid. The transparent hose allows you to see impurities and air bubbles being expelled from the system.
Ask your friend or family member to press and hold the brake pedal while they are in the driver's seat. Meanwhile, you will be working at the bleeder valve.
Turn the bleeder valve counterclockwise with the box-end wrench or flare-nut wrench. Your helper should press the brake pedal to the floor and hold it there.
While your helper holds the brake pedal down, you will observe old brake fluid, air bubbles, and impurities flowing through the clear hose and into the container.
After closing the bleeder valve by turning it clockwise, give your helper the all-clear to release the brake pedal. Continue this process until the fluid being expelled is clear of any impurities or air bubbles.

It's important to monitor the brake fluid reservoir when bleeding the brakes. It is usually found next to the firewall on the driver's side, and it must never run empty during the operation.
The brake fluid level will naturally decrease as you open and close the bleeder valve; therefore, to prevent air from entering the brake system, top it off with fresh brake fluid regularly.
To ensure a complete replacement of the brake fluid, perform the bleeding procedure on every wheel of your Toyota RAV4. Start with the wheel that is farthest from the brake fluid reservoir (typically the right rear), then the left rear, right front, and finally the left front. This procedure will ensure that air is released from all parts of the brake system.
Once you've bled the brakes on all wheels, ask your helper to depress the brake pedal. It should be firm and not sink to the floor. If the pedal feels spongy or depresses too far, you might need to repeat the bleeding process or look for any potential leaks or issues in the brake system.
