Problems with 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 122 209 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid

The vsc warning system came on including several warning lights. the abs actuator failed. i am told this is a known issue but is out of warranty and the repair is $1500-$2000. this should have been recalled.

Driving normal and brake light indicator lights up with vcs message and power brakes fail. this is an intermittent problem on highway or local roads.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. when the contact applied the brakes, the abs and vsc warning indicators illuminated. the contact had to apply force to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. a mechanic was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure due to the dtc not being illuminated when it was inspected. the vehicle was taken to a dealer (nashville toyota north, 2400 gallatin pike n, madison, tn 37115, (615) 868-7990) where it was diagnosed that the brake actuator needed to be replaced with a warranty repair. the dealer and the manufacturer indicated that the warranty enhancement was no longer available and the vehicle should have been repaired before the campaign ended on august 31, 2017. the contact received no documentation from the manufacturer pertaining to the warranty enhancement program. the manufacturer stated that they were aware that the failure was a known issue and there was a technical service bulletin on the brake system. the contact refused to repair the vehicle and indicated that the contact needed to replace the part. the approximate failure mileage was 76,000.

I needed to slow for traffic congestion. i applied the brakes, but they didn't seem to work. several lights on the dash came on including the check hybrid engine, the check vsc system, and the abs lights. the power brakes were off and it became difficult to stop. then the vehicle's engine stopped completely requiring me to maneuver out of heavy traffic to the shoulder of the road. i turned the car off and waited 10 minutes. i was able to drive the car to a toyota dealer who said sometimes this happens if gas cap is loose. i was told i could leave and they would troubleshoot for a couple of hours and a couple hundred dollars. i left and conducted my own troubleshooting on google and sounds like a brake actuator problem due to similar issues with other owners. toyota has a know issue with this vehicle and needs to make amends. please advise.

The hybrid batterie is not responding with the cars velocity. it turns off in the miďdle of my trip. i worry for my saftey and my families bcus i fear to have an accident due to that reason

Abs actuator extended warranties, in 2014 my car had two issues with the abs actuator and my dealership was unable to get the diagnostic code from them. now my car is displaying "check vsc system" and many lights on my dash. when i brought it in to my toyota dealership they said it is the abs actuator and it needs to be replaced. toyota had 2 extended warranties for trouble with the abs actuator. both of these warranties have now expired so my abs actuator cannot be fixed under the extended warranties. because of this faulty part at anytime i am driving i can lose braking and steering power. i had filed a complaint before with your agency for this exact issue but there was no way for me to have the part changed when the extended warranties were in-force because the problem did not occur and as i said earlier my dealership could not get the diagnostic code from the first time these issues occurred.

Abs actuator toyota knows there is an issue with the 2007 camry hybrid abs actuator, my dealership informed me 10/23/2017 that my abs actuator is going out. if this happens it will be hard to stop and or steer my car which is a very dangerous situation. i want to be sure this issue has been lodged with the nhtsa.

For several weeks prior to 10/12/2017, i had been noticing a squeaking noise when depressing the brake to start the car and sometimes when the car was stopped at a light. i brought the car to the venice toyota dealer on 10/05/2017, and was told that the abs actuator was failing. on 10/12/2017, all of the brake warning lights came on on my dashboard: abs, traction control, etc., as well as the words "check vsc system." on 10/13/2017, i had the actuator assembly replaced by venice toyota, at a cost of $1990.00. three years prior, in january 2014, i had already had the actuator assembly replaced due to the very same failure.there were many reports to the nhtsa at that time for the same make vehicles and year range. several months later toyota issued a vehicle warranty enhancement for the actuator system, and i was eventually reimbursed by toyota for that repair. but now it has happened again three years later. clearly there is still a weakness in the actuator system, and i even wonder if my system was replaced by the exact same unimproved parts. toyota is unwilling to accept any responsibility for this failure or for its repair. my car has low mileage for its age, currently at 95,000. also, i only put on 26,700 additional miles since the actuator system first failed 3 years ago.

Brakes go to the floor. 3 years ago, there was a extended warranty enhancement for a internal leak in the brake actuator assembly (c1391). the repair was covered under the extended warranty. now, the exact same problem has occurred again. however this time, its past the warranty period and is a going to a 2k repair. this is a major safety issue that should be a recall, not an extended warranty.

When i start the car brake light is on and after few minutes message comes as check vsc system and its not going away.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle did not stop when the brake pedal was depressed. all of the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact had to depress the brake pedal to the floorboard to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to prestige toyota (16 mckee dr, mahwah, nj 07430, 844-838-7792) where it was diagnosed that the brake actuator failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 98,430.

Toyota camry hybrid 2007 engine oil burning too fast, i drive only 1500 miles after changed my engine oil. in the last time it was decreased 1100 miles. also my engine covered by engine oils and liking everywhere. second, i drove yesterday and my brake stuck and cant stop. it was happened me second time.

At all times, when the car is on, the abs actuator assembly is running almost constantly and there is an audible leak from the unit. the dealership diagnosed the leak in the anti-lock braking unit today and said it was not covered under toyota's service extension program. i don't understand how this is not safety related, yet what brought me into the dealership was a safety recall on the power window master switch assembly. imminent loss of braking seems much more dangerous than power windows, but i guess toyota doesn't think so.

Check vsc system as well as abs and tire lights come on. known issue with toyota. had a maintenance program, but won't help me because it didn't start to occur until 1 month after expiration date. they don't send notifications. you have to wait until the problem occurs which could be after it causes an accident!

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. while the contact's girlfriend was driving approximately 45 mph, a high pitched alarm sounded. when the contact attempted to apply the brakes, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. the vehicle failed to stop and continued to coast forward. the contact had to continuously pump the brake pedal in order for the vehicle to come to a complete stop. the contact took the vehicle to the toyota of lacrosse dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake reservoir and actuator needed to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was aware of the failure and informed the contact that the repair was no longer covered under warranty. the manufacturer opened case number: 1707711063. the approximate failure mileage was 201,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. while driving 45 mph, an alarm sounded and the brakes seized without warning. the contact stated that the alarm was intermittent at first, and then became a continuous sound while driving various speeds. toyota of lacrosse, wisconsin (located at 800 3rd st south lacrosse, wi 54601 (608) 793-7000) diagnosed that the brake reservoir, which was under recall, and the brake actuator, in which there was no recall, were faulty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that a service campaign/warranty extension letter was sent out to consumers regarding their ownership of 2007 - 2011 toyota camry vehicles in regards to the brake failure condition. the toyota manufacturer provided the contact with case number: 170-721-1063. the failure mileage was 201,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. while driving 60 mph, the brakes failed to work. the abs, triangle with exclamation point, and brake warning indicators illuminated. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (toyota pasadena located at 3600 e foothill blvd, pasadena, ca 91107; (626) 795-9787) where it was diagnosed that the abs actuator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted at 800-331-4331 and stated that they were aware of the failure and offered to pay $750 for the repair. the manufacturer provided case number: 1707111743. the failure mileage was 86,870.

As i was traveling on i75 north of atlanta, i needed to slow for traffic congestion. i applied the brakes, but they didn't seem to work. several lights on the dash came on including the check hybrid engine, the check vsc system, and the abs lights. the power brakes were off and it became difficult to stop. then the vehicle's engine stopped completely requiring me to maneuver out of heavy traffic to the shoulder of the road. i turned on my hazard lights, but was almost hit by several vehicles as i got to the shoulder.

You had an investation into power breaking concerns, i had this issue https://www.edmunds.com/car-news/feds-close-probe-into-2007-11-toyota-camry-hybrid-for-power-braking-concerns.html occur while on the road traveling at speed. luckily for me there was light traffic and no one was stopped in front of me. when the alarms went off i had a total loss of braking functionality including the emergency brake until my speed was down below 20mph. the extended warranty provided by toyota to cover the issue should not be sufficient as toyotas are reliable and run for far longer than the warranty covered, making the vehicles completely unsafe for purchase as a used car. the alarms on the vehicle continued for several minutes after the vehicle was turned off, this was the 2nd time the alarms had occurred the first was in a parking lot where the vehicle was not moving so i didn't realize my brakes were affected, at that time the computer did not even register an alarm code so toyota did nothing calling it a glitch when i brought it in, even though it's apparently a known issue.

The vsc system is out and no one know how to fix it even the dealer it not showing up on the scanners .i was on the freeway the car lights con on on dash. no breaks it was scary i didn't know what to do if a. next car or cars was infrount of me i will have been real hurt because i was going 60 to 65 mph i had no control. of the car can you all look into a recall on this before someone get kill !!!i was locky i was calm not everyone will be calm....takata recall...

Vehicle was stationary with the engine on. in 2014 toyota issued a warranty enhancement notification - ze1 for the brake actuator assembly issue. i took my car to the dealership and the problem was corrected. a month ago (2 years later) the same exact symptoms occurred (same 5 warning lights). i called toyota and they said since my vehicle was already corrected, the warranty enhancement ze1 no longer applied. seems to be a recurrent problem that toyota should warranty.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact stated that the vsc, abs, hazards, and swerving vehicle warning indicators illuminated. also, an amber colored symbol with an explanation point in the center illuminated, but the contact was not sure what the warning indicator implied. the failure occurred a total of four times. the contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened case number: 1707270334. the contact researched the carfax information and found that the vehicle's year, make, and model was under investigation for similar brake issues. the approximate failure mileage was 53,000.

Camry hybrid brakes pulsating - this is a hazardous issue which seems to be ignored by toyota. just google, "check vsc system toyota camry hybrid" and you will see that 100s of results show up involving threads that are at times 100 posts long and mentioning specifics like "intermittent loss of assisted braking" and "nhtsa investigating 30,000 toyota camry hybrids for brake assist problems" - brake assist problems are not to be ignored. toyota is acting socially irresponsibly, without question, to not have issued a recall on this part. since i picked up the vehicle 5 years ago (used with 45k on it) there has always been a strange sound when applying the brakes, especially when aggressively - if needed. i have a newborn on the way and will not feel safe driving in my 2007 toyota camry hybrid until i can afford this costly repair (at average of $2500-$3000 to have dealer install, from what others say). please help. we also own a 2017 toyota rav4 hybrid and have so far had no issues with that.

I just got this car not long ago, just because of toyota's good reputation. now i am regretting it thinking i should have bought a honda or a nissan. i've been driving this vehicle for a few days and i noticed that it's leaking brake fluid due to a faulty abs actuator brake pump 2007 toyota camry hybrid 44510-30270. the brake pedal feels spongy, also a hizzing sound comes from the actuator and it does it for about 15 seconds then stops; after that i notice a few drops of brake fluid coming from the actuator, and last but not least car gets a brake light when in motion, probably due to all the leakage the actuator it's producing. i am afraid if i keep driving it with this problem it might leave me stranded somewhere or worst yet have a crash. i hope toyota recall this vehicle due to this problem. toyota you better fix your good reputation, or else american cars will take a chunk of your profits.

Abs actuator fails at random, causing car the accelerate when trying to slowdown and brakes stop working. check vsc system warning light appears

Brake system failed with brake, check csv system and abs lights on dashboard while driving on highway. *tr

Abs actuator has failed. several lights are on and the brakes are failing.

My car camry hybrid 2007 have all light on: master warning light, brake warning light, controlled brake warning, anti-lock brake system, slip indicator light. also the brake is so hard that i was close to hit car, i call toyota in orlando, florida but they toll me they don't have any recall and normally is ecu pedal stroke sensor and abs module system, both parts cost is $3,500.

Car brake fails with multiple lights on. ( vsc system check , abs , brake , etc ) it was repaired by toyota dealer under "toyota recall" program for "brake-fluid problem" . but they didn't repair " abs actuator" under warranty enhancement program (ze1). & manager said your vin is/was not eligible for ze1. i looked into "ze1" program, http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs/download/doc/ucm458138/inot-pe14001-59690.pdf but i don't see my vin in the range provided., not sure why. since my car is 2007 camry hybrid, it should be part of that recall also. this is life threatening situation where your car breaks fail all of sudden on highways. these cars should be recalled or atleast get repaired at toyota's cost. *tr

I was driving on the free way the first time this event happened to me. my brake light came on indicating that my brake was on i pulled over to check it and my brake was off. when i went back on the freeway all of my warning lights turned on and it was very hard to brake i had to press the brake pedal really hard to even get my car to stop. the warning lights will stay on for about 10 minutes or so and then the brakes lock and come to a sudden stop. i took it to the toyota dealership who sold me my car and they ran a diagnostic and could not find anything. the second time this happened to me it became quite dangerous. the brake light came on again while i was on the freeway going 65 (the speed limit). i was being very cautious with my car since that happened. all of the warning lights came on again. i was on a freeway ramp merging to get onto a different free way section. i could not brake to slow down. finally when i pushed the pedal hard enough my brakes locked and i did a 360 almost hitting two cars passing me. my car is at the toyota dealership right now they do not know how to fix it. i don't feel safe driving my car like this after it did the 360 at 60 mph. please help i submitted pictures of all the lights that come on the picture is missing the abs but the abs light comes on as well. i also submitted what i think is the problem also. *tr

My abs brake actuator was diagnosed as faulty. i've car is less than 10 years old and has only 22,000 miles on it so nhtsa action #pe14001 should apply. the toyota dealers refuse to honor the agreement because i am in florida now but i purchased the car on guam

On 2 occassions our 2007 toyota camry hybrid lost braking power. dash board lights abs, vsc and brake light all came on. when brakes were used, car had very little to no braking power.

The abs light and check vsc light and brake light went on. when i tried to apply brakes to stop, i realized that the brakes completely failed. the car was skidding and keep going and i pumped the brakes and still the car was moving forward. i came close to hitting another car and luckily stopped couple of inches from the other car. it keeps happening often and i am worried to drive this car as it is. it works fine and suddenly goes to this brake failing mode. especially happen more often if it rains and making it more dangerous.

Less than 60k miles and now my check vsc system light is on and brakes are not very responsive. takes a lot longer to stop.

My car has hit 171073 and is the 2nd time or 3 time that saids "check vsc system"and my stability control is notbworking propertly the dealer said is something normal with this year mkd and model of the car please help.

Warning signs appeared on dash and the car was taken to a local dealership for diagnostic. upon diagnostic, the dealership advised to change the hybrid battery to fix the problem. took the car to the local hybrid battery expert and found that the battery was operating normal. took the car to another dealership and they advised abs actuator was faulty. toyota acknowledged using the faulty abs actuator and was offering free replacement for vehicles under 150k. the car just passed 160k and the service was denied. the car has been serviced by the local toyota dealership for regular mainteinance and they should have been instructed to inform the customers of possible danger of faulty abs actuator. the owner of the vehicle was never informed when the car was in for services at the dealership.

Borrowed my mom's 2007 hybrid camry which she has been bringing to city toyota in daly city, ca, for maintenance. while on freeway i noticed delay in response when braking and have to press down harder as did my daughter who uses it for work. called city toyota and was told there's a limited service campaign (lsc) #e0u for brake reservoir tank replacement which should be fixed for free (similar to a recall). after speaking to two service employees i was told that i can leave the car on sat, june 18, and should be fixed by the coming monday. the service mgr, called me and said i needed to get a diagnostic completed for $160 and if it's related to the lsc i would be accountable for the $160. i was also told that i needed to leave the car for one week. i explained i should not have to pay the diagnostic if the brake problem is related to the lsc. he then told me that he would not fix the car "because of our conversation". this was upsetting as my husband and i drove 2 cars 20 miles away so that i can get back home. i told him to just fix the lsc and do not do the diagnostic and he told me to pick up my car since he will not authorize anyone to fix it. so i picked up my car again with my husband and will be taking it else where. the service mgr also lied on the invoice stating that i declined the offer to fix the lsc and that he offered to fix it and complete the work on the same day. why would i go back and forth without having the car fixed when i know it should be done for free? this service manager acted unprofessionally and is a liar. in addition, my mom brought in her car for a 45k service early 2016 which included brakes and also in 2015 for 40k service. the lsc date was effective july 10, 2014, which meant that city toyota neglected to fix this brake problem during those 2 times.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. while driving approximately 10 mph, the contact heard a continuous noise emitting from the vehicle. the electronic brakes and abs warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the entire braking system failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. while driving approximately 35 mph, the brakes failed. the contact stated that the electronic stability control, emergency brake, and traction control warning indicators illuminated. while driving at low speeds, the vehicle stalled temporarily while coming to a stop. the contact depressed the brake pedal, on several occasions, in order to stop the vehicle. there was a significant amount of pressure applied to the brake pedal, and over the course of two years, the brakes began to make abnormal sounds. mark jacobson toyota (4516 durham-chapel hill blvd, durham, north carolina 27707, (919) 493-5599) was notified and diagnosed that there was a leak in the actuator, which needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and provided the contact with case number: 1810031102. the failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

Brakes went soft, loud squealing noise all lights on dashboard and check vsc system

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. while driving 25 mph, the abs warning light illuminated. the contact had to apply extreme pressure to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. the vehicle made a squeaking sound. the dealer diagnosed that the brake actuator was failing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

After swerving/braking to avoid collision in intersection, vehicle dash warning indicators for brake, abs, and check vsc all illuminated. was able to continue driving to destination while braking cautiously and took car to toyota dealer the next day. dealer confirmed the abs actuator needed to be replaced and that the car was unsafe to drive without spending the $2000+ (i was 700 miles over the warranty enhancement end date) to fix it. after reviewing the maintenance records on my vehicle, this will be the 3rd brake actuator in this vehicle. how can a manufacturer acknowledge an issue with a critical system like this, but get away without a recall? an investigation into the mean time between failure of a critical safety system such as this needs to be undertaken as this is criminal.

My 2007 camry hybrid has 200210 miles and had a brake accumulator system failure. received warning of check vsc system and abs and brake light illuminated. heavy force was required to stop the car. i turned the car off and the error cleared. after driving 30 miles the issue occurred again. this is very unsafe and toyota campaign expired 5 months ago for unlimited mileage. in date service was 2/26/2007

The toyota warranty enhancement propgram (ze1) is a sham. my 2007 camry hybrid has no brakes, no skid control, and goes on and off without warning. i took my car to peruzzi toyota in hatfield pa while it was "under extended warranty" and they failed to diagnose the problem, because the warning lights go on and off. i showed picture of the lights on, and followed totyoa recommended procedures on the ze1 issue. i took it back later to same dealer and the lights stayed on, and they said yes it is part of the ze1 warranty but now it is past the time limit. this is a known issue, toyota is shirking their responsibilities but not issuing a recall. the car is defective, dangerous, and at $1500 plus in need of repairs. the problem can happen stationary, moving or failing to stop!

When i change break pads and rotors the vsc system light is on.. breaks no engaged.

While driving on a straight road on 3 separate occasions i lost all control of my brakes and my "check vsc light", brake light and abs lights came on. i was not able to stop my car like normal and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. it was very scary while driving.

Brakes skip now and then but eventually catch. today while driving about 35mph in town driving straight the "check vcs braking system" lights came on as well as anti skid light and brake light and i lost all brakes when i stepped on my brakes to stop. skid off road and car eventually stopped but brakes were all the way to the floor. i googled the warning lights and found that it was a recall on the brake system. i did not receive a recall notice in the mail if there was in fact one. called the toyota dealer where i purchased it and they told me to bring it in and they would look at it to confirm that it is indeed a recall issue.

Car is making a chirping noise when you engage the brake in park. noise can also be heard when you put harder pressure on the brakes whilst in gear . based on research it sounds like the actuator may be faulty. so far i have not had any lights on the dash come on.

I have a 2007 toyota camry hybrid with 152850 miles. this happened yesterday (2/24/2016). it was parked and when i started the vehicle this message immediately showed up along with 4 lights turned on. 1 - check vsc system 2 - red "brake" indicator (brake system warning light) 3 - yellow indicator (brake system warning light) 4 - master warning light 5 - abs indicator light the brake oil is full. i felt like its taking longer time to stop. also unlike before sometimes have to press the brake all the way to the floor.

On february 24, 2016, car brakes on my 2007 toyota camry hybrid locked up when we tried to stop and about 4 lights came up on the dashboard, abs, vsc, warning light and another one. we barely managed to get out of harm's way but after the grinding noise had lost all effective power to the brakes. the car actually caught fire due to the intense heat of the grinding of the pads on the rotors but was safely put out. after replacing the pads, rotor and callipers we still wound up taking the car to a dealer because the brake actuator or something related was still not letting the brakes work. the dealer has given us a lame excuse of why this has happened and is blaming it on something else and wants to charge us a lot of money to repair it. upon research, we are finding out about the ze1 campaign where they had acknowledged this defect. and were repairing all the cars that came in with the defect. this is very dangerous and something should be done about it. contacting toyota has not helped at all. we asked for an email address but were told that these are handled by mail only. we are in the process of sending them a letter anyway. *js
