I have a dodge ram 15000 crew cab laramie. both tail lights are malfunctioning in the blinkers. when i turn the blinker on it blinks really fast and says the tail lights are bad and need to be replaced. the lights in the back are half out when this happens. it does not happen all the time. i did see there was a recall, but for my vin there is not. so it appears all 2013s seem to be affected. i also have a ticking noise in my engine when i start the vehicle. it lessens as the car warms up. i noticed there was a recall in 2012 for bad exhaust manifolds. i believe this is still occurring on these vehicles. i have not repaired either of the items on my truck because i believe it is just malfunctioning. i don't recall how long its been occurring but at least for over a year.
I first noticed that, while in drive, the transmission would shift to 4th gear and could not be changed. i could shift from park to reverse but when i tried to go to drive it would go to 4th gear. then, 2 days ago, i began to notice other problems that appeared to be computer related. when i turned the ruck off there would be a ticking noise in the engine. i checked and it appeared to be the a/c/ compressor. then it stopped when i unlocked the truck doors. then i noticed what seemed to be the fuel pump ticking as if calling for fuel. once again, the engine was off and, once again, it stopped. the next morning my battery was dead. i tried to jump it with no luck so i purchased e new battery. now when i try to start it, the starter makes all kind of crazy noises and it won't start.
On 12/7/16, a desolate, straight, country road, i stopped my truck to investigate damage from a deer that had run into the driver's fender while i was driving about 25 mph. even though i placed the truck in park after my stop (to make it stationary), the ram started moving as i attempted to exit its cabin; and then it drove for about 300 feet at idle speed down the road, where it stopped in a shallow drainage ditch. meanwhile, the ram's "self-driving" mode had caused me to slip on the running board and to fall very hard to the ground (a distance of at least 22 inches). the results: pain, hand and knee cuts, extreme bruising and swelling of the entire left leg, and bruising and swelling of the lower right leg. these required some medical attention. fortunately, there were no blood clots, no broken bones, no dislocated limbs, nor run-over limbs! i was very lucky!! *tr
Check engine came on, took it to get it tested and the code was for cylinder #3 misfire. checked and replaced spark plugs and coil pack, along with testing the fuel injectors, also good. performed compression test, failed at 85 psi. removed drivers cylinder head assembly. removed lifters and found cylinder #3 intake lifter collapsed and bottom roller locked up. the failed lifter caused the cam shaft lobe to be shaved down. with no cam lobe, the valve cannot open to allow air in the cylinder, causing low compression and misfire. the truck is a a dodge ram 1500, 2013. with 116,000. this should not have happened to a truck with this low of milage. this part was found to be defective on dodges part. estimated cost $4000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. the contact heard an abnormal, loud noise coming from the engine compartment and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the dealer (greenbrier dodge of chesapeake, 1717 s military hwy, chesapeake, va 23320, (757) 420-2800) diagnosed that the lifters and cam shaft needed to be replaced. the dealer indicated that a warranty may cover the repairs; however, once it was determined that the vehicle had a canadian vin, they refused to provide service as there may be a canadian warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer advised the contact to reach out to the manufacturer in canada. in turn, the manufacturer in canada advised the contact to call the manufacturer in the usa. the contact received no resolution. the manufacturer had not issued an engine recall; however, they issued 27 tsbs on the engine and engine cooling. the vin and failure mileage were not available.
I bought vehicle new in 2013 and the paint is bubbling on hood ( rusting ) and it also failed emission test when i went to get inspection sticker, i don't believe i'm asking to much that a vehicle 3 years old not rust and pass an emissions test.
Shortly after buying this pickup it would stall, the dash had an red electrical indicator exposed. the power steering shut down, the brakes were no longer power brakes.. this happened at speeds up to 45 miles an hour. never happened at high speeds. i live & drive on mountain highways, and at times it took my breath. i would apply the gas pedal, it would eventually begin running again. no matter the time of year. it wasn't every day, maybe go along 2-3 months not happens, but it might happen every day for a couple of days. i took the pickup to town & country dealer in alamosa co. twice, they would drive it. the explained to fix it, they would need to see it happen. i decided to drive it. however, today i have to rely on other people to drive it, and i worry now about there safety. i decided to take a trip in september of this year, and i have a friend driving for me. so i decided to research the web on this problem , finding there were several cases of this happening to doge pickups. one fellow was driving 80 miles an hour in the "fast lane", his stalled. he recommended that if you've had this happen to notify your state attorney general. i did, they ask i file it with you. i'm not angry with my dealer, other than the fact they ask me to notify chrysler, and i told the they should represent me as their customer with the company. i'm 77 years old, been driving over 60 years. i've never hurt another person in a wreck, but this pickup is dangerous. i could trade it in, but that isn't a christian type thing to do to another party. it's a dilemma that i have no answer for. if it were only this pickup it would be different. it's the only mode of transportation that i currently have. my driving is generally over these mountain roads, to pueblo, colorado springs, maybe denver. chrysler corporation needs to understand the threat this pickup is over these highways. help me
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. while driving approximately 75 mph, the check engine, abs, and esc warning indicators illuminated. in addition, the speedometer and cruise control seized and the vehicle lost acceleration. the dealer diagnosed the abs module failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 64,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. the contact stated that strong exhaust fumes encompassed the interior and exterior of the vehicle. the dealer (peterson dodge chrysler jeep ram, 5801 e gate blvd, nampa, id 83687, (208) 475-3000) diagnosed that the exhaust manifold had an internal failure, which was leaking fluid into the engine compartment due to the bolts shearing off. the dealer replaced the exhaust manifold and the bolts on the front passenger side; however, the failure recurred. the dealer stated that the exhaust manifold needed to be replaced on the driver's side and the bolts. the manufacturer provided no remedy other than replacing the same parts. the failure mileage was not available. **tr the first failure was the passenger side exhaust manifold began ticking. tamera , the chrysler adjuster did not tell me this was under a customer help at the time of the repair of i sould have brought the above her attention then. i heard only a tick on the passenger side and they said the other side was fine. in less than 1000 miles and around 30 days the other side started ticking. in researching this problem it appears that chrysler has allowed this to allowed this to continue unchecked since 2009, but it is hard to tell as they have done some changes in the engine for fuel economy sake, but it appears to be an ongoing problem. i have had some exhaust odors, but it has not seemed to have caused health problems at this point. my son has a 2003 diesel that has the same problem, but is long out of warranty. updated 11/1/2018 *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator was illuminated. the contact had to reach under both the passenger and driver seats and squeeze the connectors together to turn off the warning indicator. when the vehicle was started, there was an abnormal noise detected from the vehicle. when inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed a leak from the rear passenger side of the vehicle and that the exhaust manifold bolt fractured. the vehicle was taken to spartanburg chrysler dodge jeep ram (1035 n church st, spartanburg, sc 29303, (888) 404-4925) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
I rear ended a semi that was parked on the side of the road. i was going approximately 51 miles per hour. no airbag's deployed, but the front of my vehicle was destroyed.

While driving in a 2013 ram 1500 pentastar v6 the engine has stalled multiple times while driving. at least once at highway speeds.
There is an exhaust leak that has been repaired 2 times and keeps coming back. very common.

Has occurred 3 times within 30 days. at low speeds between 15mph and 35mph, engine stops, gauges go dead and aprox 6 seconds later the transmission slams into park. 1st time it happened i was lightly breaking & coasting for a stop light; 2nd time i was cruising about 35mph; and 3rd time i was accelerating from a dead stop across 4 lanes of traffic. the transmission going into park after the engine and electrical system went dead reminds me of when you turn the ignition off without first putting it into park - when this happens, a few seconds later, the transmission automatically shifts into the park position. i had at least 1/2 tank of gas each occurrence. i notified the dealership on 1/14/15, dealership says there are no recalls and that i would have to wait 2 weeks before they can check out the problem, which i consider serious. additional electrical info that may or may not be related: the infotainment system frequently malfunctions - the play list for songs duplicates in the listing, songs repeat two to three times, sd card selection stops working, sd card selection all of a sudden stops recognizing the sd card. the infotainment center has also completely restarted as if it was rebooting. *tr
While driving my trucks dash will go blank, the vehicle shuts off and then resets. the last time this occurred, when the vehicle reset the throttle came back on wide open and almost caused a loss of control. i reacted by manually shutting down the vehicle and coming to a rest on the shoulder of the road. once i restarted the vehicle all was ok. i was only a mile form the dodge dealer and returned it to them for a diagnosis. again, nothing found. this has happened several times (dash resetting while driving approximately 10 times in the last 2 months) but only once has it came back on full throttle. i have been to the dealership three times for the dash resetting just to have them tell me they cannot duplicate the incident. this is a valid safety issue and needs to be addressed. after reviewing the dodge ram forums, i notice several people with the same issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 dodge ram 1500. while driving at various speeds, the engine temperature increased without warning. on two occasions, the vehicle stalled due to the engine overheating. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician stated that the vehicle was performing up to specifications. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 5,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle hesitated before moving forward. in addition, the contact stated that there was water leaking from underneath the dash board to the floor around the driver's side and spreading to the front passenger's side. the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to multiple dealers, who diagnosed that software needed to be updated. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 25,000.
Front end shook bad, engine light flashing. truck cut off. would not start. towed to dealer. was told to drive 50-several hundred miles for computer to reset. engine light never went off. truck did the same two more times! taken back to dealer june 5th. then told evap leak.. engine light still on after this time as well. told to do the same thing. keep driving it until the computer resets!!! was driving at 55 mph and light started flashing and front end shaking so i pulled over. sputtered and cuts off. so again it has been taken to the dealer and has been there since about july 19th to date!! have been told fuel pump was cracked, ordered and on back order. and misfirings on fuel injectors #7 and a random one. warranty covered nothing. what if it cut off in an intersection?!! first time drained some water from fuel tank. now saying possible sugar in it. however..neither would damage a fuel pump! i believe this dealership is lying and tampering. i had to pay for the first time around $900! i have had no vehicle during these times. this is a very dangerous and life threatening situation. *tr
The vehicle will shutdown without notice, the engine will shut off and will not restart. the electronic dash will go black which shows what gear the vehicle is in. so shifting to neutral to restart the vehicle can be difficult since no indication is given of what gear. all power to the steering and brakes are no longer available. the vehicles computer does some sort of reset after several seconds but any attempts to restart the vehicle fail till the reset is complete. taken to the dealer several times and also notified chrysler which there attempted resolutions were only guess and does not resolve the shutdowns. chrysler and service tech's have stated they have not heard of the issue yet another customer in for service same time as myself with a jeep complained of the same issue that i had seen with my ram. it appears this is bigger issue than just a single vehicle. this link shows what occurs when the vehicle shutdown occurs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyh9vqehyiq
Low engine oil warning light, oil filter leaking oil, leaked at 2500 miles, 6,000 miles, 8,000 miles, 11,000 miles. *js
Driving truck in town approx 35 - 40 mph. can give exact detail / location. vehicle transmission in "drive". vehicle has center consul. as vehicle was climbing gradual hill, transmission automatically downshifted. vehicle immediately went to full throttle uncontrollably. engine rpm jumped to 6k - 7k. vehicle speed still increasing. stepped on gas pedal several times thinking it was stuck with no effect - rpm remained constant. then put both feet on brake pedal - rpm remained constant. then shifted transmission into neutral position. check etc / red lightning bolt message now on in message center located between tach & speedometer. rpm's now at a constant 4k with vehicle in neutral and coasting. no place to turn off without blocking traffic. stopped at lighted intersection - vehicle still at 4k rpm. shifted back into "drive", tires chirped and truck lunged forward still at 4k rpm. parked vehicle in safe place adjacent to gas station and shut off - transmission still either in gear or neutral. engine off - shifted into "park". waited 3-4 minutes and attempted to restart vehicle. engine icon, ect icon and red steering wheel with explanation point icon where all on. vehicle cranked, but acted like no fuel / spark and would not start. vehicle towed to dealership on flatbed. no word back from dealer yet. mileage 5,443 - mostly highway. note: no floor mats just factory rug and cruise control was not "on" or in use in any way. only modifications to vehicle are the addition of a spray bed-liner and topper. i was born and raised around cars and have good mechanical ability including ground-up restorations of pre 1970 vehicles. this is a real and tangible example of a 2013 dodge ram 1500 4x4 bighorn with unintended acceleration. this is unacceptable for any vehicle, but especially for a new, $46,000 vehicle. i am lucky that i did not hurt anyone or end up dead. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that there was a strong sulfur odor emitted from the engine houses the odor emitted inside the cab and became stronger when the heating or cooling system was on. the dealer advised there was not yet a repair for the failure. the manufacturer was aware of the failure. the hoses were not replaced. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileage was 6,000. *tr
When we purchased the ram 1500/v6 engine pickup truck new in april 2013, johnson dodge, budd lake, nj, it did not hesitate and ran well. over the next three months it slowly developed an significant, one second plus, hesitation when accelerating from a dead stop. the service manager [xxx] at johnson dodge test drove and agreed there was a hesitation but couldn't/can't fix/adjust it do to everything being controlled by computer modules. he said, "until they, (ram engineers), release a software fix/update or tech bulletin, there was nothing he/they could do." this hesitation is so severe it requires the driver to anticipate the delay and than pre-press the accelerator when crossing a street in heavy traffic or other situation requiring timely accelerator response. i believe this hesitation and lack of dealer correction creates a very dangerous driving requirement of me and any other driver of these pickup trucks. Engine died at freeway speeds , ,taken to dealership 3 times, finally got it back , while driving on my way home it died again , could not stop until i hit cement culvert for water run off, damaging front bumper, had it towed to dealership where it sits now. the engine keeps shutting down without warning while driving on california freeways, big safety issue. *tr
This vehicle has leaked oil around the oil filter since the 1st oil change. the company has never owned up to being a problem however i've had a oiled filled driveway ever since then. there are numerous complaints online from people with the same problem. how can ram get away with not doing anything to fix the issue. i live 1 1/2 hours from the dealer and i'm afraid its going to vibrate off on my way there to get it fixed. i doubt they would fix the motor if it locked up on my way there. *tr
When the vehicle drives at the speeds between 30 to 40 mph the vehicle is sluggish. i'm worried in a particular situation when i may need the get and go this issue could compromise my life or someone else's life. i've brought it 2 separate dodge dealer and the service dept. says the computer module is going from 4 to 8 cylinder. this delay could be a safety issue and needs to be addressed.[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
My truck will not start, it won't even turn on.it continuously says check the fuel cap and the check engine light will turn on but absolutely nothing is wrong with it (before it started to act up). even though it seems like the batteries dead and we know it won't turn on it's still making a loud like clicking or knocking noise. it will stop for a minute and then start again. i've never heard a car do that before so i don't think that's normal. my clicker key won't even work to lock or unlock or even set the panic off.
