Cylinder 5 missfire-camshaft: check engine light came on while driving on interstate 10 in louisiana. i noticed that the power had reduced, fuel economy dropped, and the engine was shaking, the entire truck was shaking like a tire was about to blow out. after exiting and finding the near o'reily, i was told to change the spark plugs, and ignition coil #5 as well as the fuel injector. after all that was replaced, the light was still on and flashing the same code. i had the truck towed to a nearby dealership and after their diagnostics test was complete, they reported back with replacing the camshaft! this vehicle has less than 100,000 miles and a 5.7 hemi. it will also be a major out of pocket expense due to the warranty expiring april 2017. it will have to be fixed before we put it back on the road due to the safety hazard and i have two car seats.
Engine stalls intermittently on initial start attempt and during low speed going through intersections & accelerating on interstate entrance ramps. immediate loss of driving control with limited brakes and manual steering to avoid traffic. placing vehicle in park and ignition key to off vehicle woud restart. ram dealership recommended replacing win module and i have had no reoccurences since, (45 days). their is no recall out for this make and model but it has been noted as a part failure on other chrysler vehicles. this is a real safety hazard as driving is difficult requiring above normal arm strength to get vehicle off the road. i have contacted chryler customer care and awaiting their response.
Ticking sound coming from exhaust manifold, only when engine is cold, still continues when warmer nut not as noticeable.
In the morning when engine is first started their is a knocking noise under the hood for about 10 min and then goes away. also if truck sits too long the knocking noise will happen again for about 10 mins. 5.7 hemi engine. many complaints from owners regarding this noise and concerned that i will have to pay for a known issue that has been known to the dealer and government for quite sometime now.
While driving vehicle from speeds 0 - 40mph a "whirling/whining" noise that sounds like it is coming from the middle of the truck and is only heard when driving the vehicle, the noise is not present when car is parked or stopped at a light. i have 160,000.00 miles on truck and it has just started making this noise in the last 3 weeks. i see others have complained about this same problem and it should be recalled on all trucks. we have just bought a 2017 ram truck and that will be our third ram truck and am upset that nothing has been done about this problem yet
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. while attempting to drive the vehicle, there was a ticking noise coming from the engine and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to dallas dodge chrysler jeep ram (11550 lyndon b johnson fwy, dallas, tx 75238, (214) 327-9361) where it was diagnosed that the manifold bolts detached and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
Hemi tick manifold gets hot expands break manifold bolts, acted up on highway in construction zone almost hot another vehicle from loss of power and jerking.
I have been hearing a ticking sound coming from my engine these past few weeks. i looked into the matter and have found issues with the manifold bolts that are breaking off and causing this problem. i contacted dodge of gilroy today and they state they have not heard of any issues regarding this engine hemi 5.7. however, after looking at this website, it appears they're many issues. this needs to become a recall, as it is a danger of exhaust fumes entering the cab.
While driving my 2012 ram 1500 my truck seemed to lag going up hill from about 10mph up till about 40 or so. looked down at the dash and noticed that the truck was showing that it was in 4th gear. tried using the steptronic shifter to put into a lower gear and it would not switch. pulled off into a parking lot and turned off my truck and waited a bit and then turned back on again. shifted into reverse with no issue but drive was still showing 4th gear.
Vehicle makes a loud ticking noice at startup on the passenger side of the engine. vehicle is stationary. ticking noise stops around five minutes after the vehicle warms up.
I've had my 2012 ram 1500 for almost 3 years now. it just started making a ticking noise coming from the engine. from when i start to when i turn it off. i've done may research and i'm not the only one that has this issue. i'm a die hard ram fan. this needs to get recalled.
Engine ticks and lags/hesitate under throttle receive error code p0308, dealership recommended a tune up but did not resolve problem. still hesitates under throttle. did extensive research on-line and this is a common problem with the engine and costly to consumers and dangerous. in my case, i was entering a highway with my 2 kids. i was on the frontage road going about 40 mph as i entered the on ramp of the freeway to get to the speed limit of 60 mph. when i accelerated the engine started to hesitate and almost stalled causing the vehicles on the freeway to slam on his/her breaks and swerve to go around me. fortunately, the cars behind me did not ran into me or anyone else causing a major accident as this occurred during rush hour on a major freeway.
Engine is missing on acceleration at high speed or climbing a hill - check engine light is on (error code is "cylinder 3 misfire"). dealer says it needs a new engine head due to damaged valve springs. this should not happen at 112k miles.
Front left axle is seized up on my truck. a tire company was going to put a new hub on for me and they couldn't get the axle to release the hub. on engine my truck is ticking from manifold.
After towing a boat, the engine died & underwent major warranteed repair in 2016. also in 2016 the following occured: the ac stopped working, battery was replaced but vehicle has died 3 times since repaired & new battery. my 2007 ram 1500 quad also lost ac after 5 years. the last time battery died, so did the dealer installed alarm system. it's fine for 2-3 months then dies.
On the 2012 dodge ram 1500 bighorn, trucks the bolts that secure the manifold to the engine will fail, causing an exhaust leak.. know as the hemi trick. my truck seem to have this issue, and so i started a little research project to find a solution, and in a matter of minuets i found numerous truck owner reporting the same issue. when you try to contact the dealership for resolution, they just pretend that its the first time they ever hear of it. then offer to fix it for thousands of dollars... when it a know defect in the engine.
Recall tipm ? fuel pump and tipm with a cost of $1,700 to repair at dodge dealership. many others are having the same issue. why is this not a recall?
Truck shutting off at random driving down the road needing to restart engine. you hit a bump and truck shuts off very dangerous life treating. manifold bolts have snapped off into engine. truck shifts to 4th gear at random causing a jerr and skid of back tires could cause loss of control which could lead to death or injury
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. while driving 65 mph, the timing chain fractured without warning and the engine failed. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 107,000.
Infamous hemi ticking; on cold start there's a pronounced ticking that goes away after about 15 min of running. found exhaust manifold bolt had sheered; had it replaced with new bolts and gasket but the ticking is still there. mechanics say there's nothing wrong with the vehicle however the ticking is ridiculously annoying. read that it may be exhaust leak however, nothing can be found that needs repair. this has been going on for over a year now.
Clicking sound under right side of engine. only does it when the engine is cold..after around 30 seconds its gone.
My vehicle started acting up a few times when i would go to start the vehicle, the engine would turn over and then stall out. i thought it was strange, but continued to drive it. while driving down an ice and snow packed road in the middle of traffic my vehicle stalled out; lost all power steering, brakes locked up, lights shut off, and i almost ended up rear-ending the car in front of me going 45 mph. i pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and was able to get it started again. since then i have taken it to the car dealership and they told me the win module needed replaced along with the key fob ($725) that was not covered under my warranty. upon further investigation i see this is a common problem. i called chrysler headquarters and they told me that there was nothing they could do about it. this is a serious issue and needs a recall! it has done it several more times while driving. i have no other choice but to drive the vehicle due to it being my only means of transport. something needs to be done about this. i've had the truck less than a year.
Truck has 84k miles and suddenly has p0303 code for misfire. immediately took to mechanic. so far valve and lifter have been replaced, but problem still exhists. most likely a worn down cam lobe from the bad lifter, so now im without a vehiclefor at least 3 weeks that i still owe 20k on. i cant believe the parts quality and engineering are so poor that this truck doesnt even have 90k on it. to top it off, the manufacturer has stated there are thousands on back order which tells me this is a very very common problem. i have come across many, many complaints stating they have the same exact problem with such low miles and ironically our truck is just out of warranty.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. when the vehicle was started, there was an abnormal noise coming from the engine compartment. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the exhaust manifold bolts, which secure the exhaust to the cylinder head, fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
Ticm failure cause engine/electronic to suddenly stop while running. in parking lot, luckily
Tipm failed to work correctly resulting in no fuel pressure periodically and without warning. engine would fail to run. sometimes it would be ok and then sometimes the engine would not run. ram said they would have to locate a new tipm. they didnt have one because of alot of these had failed, so theyre in high demand. why arent these being recalled then??
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. when starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal metal noise, following by a hissing sound coming from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the contact was informed that the exhaust manifold bolt detached and caused the manifold gasket to blow in the vehicle. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 65,400.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. the contact observed an abnormal noise from the vehicle known as the hemi tick. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the air intake valve, exhaust manifold, and hoses needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 92,000. updated 01/17/2017*ct *tr
Exhaust manifold bolt broken causing exhaust leaks. verified by dealer after doing a full inspection after another recall item was fixed. dealer said that it is common for the 5.7 hemi. possible exhaust fumes entering driver cab. this is also known as the hemi tick, have been hearing tick for about 1,000 miles, current miles is 32,004. can hear exhaust leak consistently
Stalled while driving. ongoing problems. replaced fuel pump. denied in recall yet extremely unsafe. faulty tipm.
At 104,000 miles, engine code for cylinder #3 misfire. 16 new plugs and #3 coil pack did not fix the issue. further testing revealed revealed a bad lifter. engine overhaul produced a seized roller on the lifter that eventually completely wore a lobe of the camshaft. with the replacement of lifters, camshaft, valve springs, the mechanic shop also replaced 5 broken exhaust manifold bolts (another known problem with 5.7l hemi engine). $4000 later i have a significant engine overhaul on an engine with just 104,000 miles that was just out of warranty. 5w20 mobile 1 synthetic oil used at all oil changes at factory recommended interval, since truck was new.
Tipm module not working. 2012 dodge ram with only 34000 miles.
2012 dodge ram 1500. consumer writes in regards to vehicle electronic throttle control issues. *smd the consumer stated he lost all power to the vehicle and went off the road. it was determined the electronic throttle control was bad. updated 10/22/15.*jb
Getting off the freeway i let go of the gas pedal to coast to a complete stop. without warning the truck shut off in the middle of the off ramp. starts right up but makes a noise as if you were starting a cold diesel engine. it's happened 5 times in the last 2 months and the dealer could find or fix the issue.
Exhaust leak right passenger side of engine allowing exhaust fumes to enter passenger cabin.
The lifters on this engines is going bad, im thinking on buying a new ram but with this bad engine i don't think i want one more. ram really needs to fix this problem, is very bad you don't know if you engine needs oil when it does this clicking or if is your lifters.
Upon selecting transmission "d" option instrument panel indicated "6", drove to barn for horse feed. needing to back up to fence, to disperse feed, transmisson selection of "r" was necessary. using the brake pedal to regulate speed and no usage of accelerator pedal (as automatic transmisson vehicles will generally motivate when gear selection is initiated) "sudden acceleration" occurred causing damage to tailgate which was down. brake pedal was pressed and vehicle was stopped. with brake pedal depressed transmisson selection "d" was initiated, in order to investigate damage, and once again with brake pedal used to regulate speed and no usage of accelerator pedal "sudden acceleration" was again encountered. brake pedal was again depressed which stopped vehicle. no further occurrances were encountered that day. weather was sunny and cool, high 40's, with dry conditions. *tr
During 2014/2015 the 2012 dodge ram 1500 would fail to start intermittently especially on colder days. during january of 2015 the problem became more common on a daily basis and would take 10-15 times to start the vehicle. the vehicle was take to dodge under warranty for repair multiple times and according to dodge the starter was replaced and the vehicle would start. after obtaining the vehicle from the dodge repair shop the left head light began to go on and off intermittently. the vehicle was again taking to the dodge service shop for repair under warranty. dodge indicated that it was a faulty tipm and that it was replaced and that the left headlight should work appropriately. after obtaining the truck once again the check engine light came on and returned to the dodge shop where they indicated that it was the transmission sensor which was replaced. several months later the driver's headlight began to go on and off intermittently while driving and sitting still. the dodge was returned to the dodge repair shop who stated that the previous repair was done under warranty and since the vehicle is no longer under warranty they would not cover any repairs even thought they have a 24 month part policy for repairs paid for by the customer. suspected to be a tipm issue.

Engine idle spiked and dropped in rush hour stop and go traffic until the truck eventually stalled. i placed the truck in park and tried restarting. the "electronic throttle control" light illuminated in the dash. i turned the truck off and tried restarting. the starter turned over but the truck acted as if an element needed for combustion was missing. i turned my hazards on--as traffic was clearing around me. i tried starting the truck a dozen times before calling 911 (since i was in the middle of an interstate hwy). i texted a friend who said try starting with the accelerator pedal fully depressed--the truck started, but then went right back to spiking idle and the engine died again. at this time traffic was speeding by so fast on both sides that i could not exit the vehicle. state patrol came to push me to the shoulder. truck started again on the shoulder after several attempts and i managed to move it about 50 feet before it died again. had truck towed to nearest dealership where they informed me it may take up to 2 weeks before they can diagnose my truck. still under warranty. second time this has happened with this vehicle in 6 weeks. first time dealership drove truck 84 miles and returned it with a note saying they could not replicate the problem. *tr
My 2012 ram 1500 has a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment and it usually fades out after running the engine a little while. also the the power door locks will not lock or unlock using the switch and the front passenger side window will not roll down. the air conditioner seems to run warm from time to time and has been filled a few times but no leaks were detected. these issues happened over a couple of years owning this truck. i purchased this truck with around 30,000 miles in 2013/2014 it now has 50,000 miles.
Tl* the contact owns 2012 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that driver's side engine exhaust manifold made a loud ticking noise while driving at various speeds. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where it was advised that the driver side manifold bolt was fractured. the driver's side manifold bolt was replaced however the passenger's side manifold bolt later exhibited the same failure. the passenger side manifold bolt was not replaced. the manufacturer advised the contact that the warranty was expired and denied assistance with the repair. the failure and current mileage was 57,890.
At about 18000 miles on vehicle it suddenly stalled. throttle body control light came on, rpm dropped to almost zero. pumping gas pedal had no effect. condition lasted about 15 to 25 seconds. took truck to dealer and was informed it needed a throttle body software update. this was done. also was performed again later. the stalling is intermittent some times not happening for weeks then again it will happen up to 3 times in a week.bit once stalled on my lady as she was crossing an intersection . vehicle now has 77000 miles on odometer . i thought this just a hassle until about three weeks ago. as i was merging on to the interstate at about 65 mph in front of a big truck the vehicle stalled for a long period. the big rig was within a very few feet of my vehicle before engine started running again. needless to say this scared me big time. this was when i started to look for someone to be in my corner on this vehicle has been serviced by dodge dealership regularly since new. each time i have reported stalls and at one time had a case opened with chrysler. i am told they find nothing and they only have my word this is happening. this from dealer and chrysler
2012 dodge ram 1500 crew cab 4x4, would stall when driving at slower speeds around 10-20 mph like when in a traffic jam,,(happened to me and interstate 75) happened to me on interstate 75) it will even stall when idling just parked or sitting at a red light, not all the time just out of the blue, you wait 5/10 minutes starts back up like nothing ever was wrong ,,,took it in to the local dealer 3 times about to be the 4th ,,, the 1st time they (dealer) couldnt find anything wrong??? 2nd time they (dealer) said it was the ignition control module and had to reset the keys,, a week later same thing called the dealer and informed them they told me to try the other key it seems to work fine for almost a year now but right back to the same thing stalling at lower speeds or just idling when you try to start it ,it's almost like the ignition is stuck?? you wait 5/10 minutes starts up like nothing ever was wrong ???? it could be dangerous if it stalls out on the highway
I was driving my sons 2012 ram 1500 4x4 crew cab with less than 20k on the odometer back from texas to north carolina. i fell asleep at the wheel and we ran into a portable tow behind highway construction sign, bounced off a guard rail and then rolled several times down the freeway embankment on i-20 in tuscaloosa alabama. not one of the 6 airbags in the vehicle deployed. luckily my son and his two daughters escaped practically injury free, with only minor abrasions, however i took a beating to the head and am still out of work 1 month later due to head/concussion injury. none of the side curtain airbags, side impact or frontal impact airbags deployed. i do have pictures of the truck, which was totaled, to validate this. i also have a copy of the police report stating none of the airbags deployed. what should i do? and who else should i contact? *tr

Loud ticking from engine possible manifold. had the ticking for years, but was told by dodegland of columiba sc that it was not.
