Lifter/ tapper failure in cylinders 3 and 5.
Cylinder misfire at high rpm. roller lifters getting stuck or wearing and causing grooves or excessive camshaft wear. random cylinders and lifters becoming stuck or bearings on lifters failing causing excessive and premature camshaft wear or failure of lobes on camshaft. 2012 hemi 5.7l engine. happens when engine put under a load such as getting onto highway or passing a slower moving vehicle. under load or higher rpm engine fault light illuminates and will blink on and off for a few seconds. purchased on 11/16/19 as used vehicle. odometer 147514.
While driving the vehicle on the highway, it lost power and shut off. had it towed to a mechanic and they said my valves, lifters, and camshaft were damaged. the truck only has 110,000 miles on it. when the truck lost power, it would have caused an accident, lucky though i was able to pull over in enough time, before another vehicle could hit me. this seems to be a common thing, with these trucks, the mechanic can't replace the pieces because of out of stock, so he wants to replace the whole engine. this issue needs to be investigated, before someone does get into an accident.
Loud ticking noise caused by lifter/camshaft malfunction. truck loses power. while driving on highway, truck started misfiring (cylinder 3). had to put on hazard flashers and drive at severely reduced speeds for 125 miles to get home. this is a major problem with the hemi engine. cannot get lifters due to supply and demand issues. if you can find lifters, the prices are outrageous. dodge dealer.states there are more than 10,000 lifters on back order. please, please, please investigate. we may have to let our truck go back to the bank as we cannot drive it but still owe 20k!!! please for the sake of thousands of affected dodge owners, do something!!!
2012 dodge ram 1500 sport 5.7 hemi 73000 miles and without warning while driving the valve spring breaks did not even generate a check engine light come to find out that several other ram hemi owners have had the sam issue and dodge apparently is aware of this and will not!!!!!!!!!!!! stand behind their product so i will never!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! own or recommend to anyone i know to own one of these p.o.s. rams not worth the money or the trouble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dodge should be sued and they should be ashamed of the thier lack of customer care!!!!!!!!!!!! i contacted the dodge hq and was told that i would receive a follow-up phone call within 24 hrs got nothing again they don't care
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled and was towed to stalling dodge (1245 38th blvd ne, cairo, ga). the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 92,000.
I started to have trouble with the truck as it would not start in the mornings when i was trying to go to work. i replaced the fuel pump and it did not solve the problem. shortly after that, my battery would be dead most mornings. i replaced the battery, but still the problems continued. the truck started to lose power while i was driving so i took it to a mechanic. he told me that the tipm was faulty and needed to be replaced. i had to take it to the dealership i purchased it from to have it fixed. i have driven the truck less that 7000 miles since i purchased it. after speaking with fca, they say that they won't do anything to help out because the truck is out of warranty. i want to know why a recall was never put in place and enacted because i have seen thousands of complaints from people having the same problems. i would like to know why i'm having to pay $1794.03 out of pocket for the faults of the manufacturer pf the vehicle.
2012 ram 1500 - cranked my ram truck one morning and the engine had a knock with a tapping sound, turn off check the oil level which was ok! started the engine and only heard like a mainifold leak. after driving a few miles , i notice that the truck was shaky during take-off or climbing a hill. drop truck off at my mechanic for a tune-up and later that day my mechanic notified me the tune-up wasn't the problem. he remove the cams/lifters to #5 lifter and that lifter wasn't moving like 1,3 & 7. "is was like the lug on the cam were wore out."
Exhaust studs broke took to shop for repair got back still exhaust leak took back had to replace driver side maniford was told by dodge dealer shop that new design studs was available cause of the problem dodge had with studs breaking paid over $1200 for this work
2012 dodge ram sport loses power and has an annoying ticking sound with it.. ticking is constant and so is power loss. this happened two days ago.. truck has 155,620 miles on it. happened as i was getting on the the interstate..
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. while driving at any speed, the vehicle shook, the engine made abnormal noises, and the check engine indicator remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the lifters in the engine cylinder needed to be replaced. the contact called village motors at 330-674-2055 (located at 784 wooster rd, millersburg, oh 44654) where it was determined that there was no recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was provided a fake phone number. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
Truck shuts down on occasions when you step on the brakes?
I bought 2012 ram 1500 in august 2018, i make payment. this past april vibration and hesitation got worse, i had plugs replaced , didn't help. found out that lifters needed replaced and camshaft. i spent $217 on plug replacement and additional $4500 to replace lifters camshaft. engine light comes on now it's saying vaporation leak. i have read that thousands and thousands of customers have had this problem and no recall from chrysler. this is my first dodge, this will be my last dodge unless i get compensation from chrysler. i know this truck is not under warranty, but chrysler has to know that this is a problem with the hemi , i was told at a dealer this was common in hemi , no one told me that when i brought i still owe on this truck , plus i'm out $4667 that i can't get back if i traded, only had 8 months when this happened. this doesn't include the the vap problem on the cost.
Serious exhaust leak. also, exhaust is leaking into the cabin. my 2012 dodge ram 1500 truck has 77,000 miles. i noticed a ticking noise coming from under the hood and a terrible smell inside the truck. i realized the vehicle has an exhaust leak. the leak is coming from the exhaust manifold on the passenger side. a mechanic friend of mine who works at a shop in gainesville fl told me his shop has repaired 125 of the same trucks in 2.5 yrs who have the same problem. the problem is the manifold bolts are failing/breaking which causes an exhaust leak which in turn causes the manifold to warp. my truck has now had the same failure and is currently at my local dealership. my truck was in motion on a city street. in my opinion this exhaust leak is a serious problem just like ford recently had with their police vehicles.
Cam and lifter failure under 90,000miles on it had for about a year bought from dodge dealership they said there was no warranty or extended warranty coverage on it this is prime example of a lemon for the lemon law this is apparently a common issue on these engines with a repair cost of 4400 dollars or more this is unacceptable also the dealership has had my truck more than 3 months because they can't get the camshaft or lifters because of issues with them and are on backorder which means they have been putting in faulty parts into the engines
The lifters have failed and there is only around 80,000 miles on vehicle. after doing research i have found that this is a very common problem for the hemi engines that have the mds system. i should not have to pay thousands of dollars to have it fixed when this is a very well known problem and design flaw
While operating my truck in normal usage, the truck began to loss power, shake violently, and emit a knocking/clacking sound. the truck displayed a mil code p0304 for a misfire, one that was caused by defective, negligently engineered powertrain components. camshaft and valve lifter failures are known issues on this vehicle across multiple model years. the moment when they manifest can cause driver distraction at the least, loss of vehicle control at worst. fca should be compelled to issue a recall to cover repairs/reimburse those who have suffered vehicle failure. the parts alone will cost nearly $1800, with labor costs expected to at least double that.
My ram 1500 had valve springs break. it has a tick in the engine and the mechanic said it was a lifter. he said 2012 rams always get bad lifters, also the front seats the way they are shaped, when getting in or out the edges are rubbed and my leather is torn. the lifter is a major issue. i'll never by another ram again because of it. my truck sounds awful. i have 97000 mile it's 2012, looks beautiful, and sounds like a beater. it ticks when i start it and sounds worse when i drive. when my springs broke i was driving 70 on the intetstate.. the lifter issue came first, not sure if it caused the springs to break.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. while making a right turn, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact powered off the engine while in traffic. the vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normally. on another occasion, the vehicle failed to start and a clicking noise was heard. also, the message "no fuse" appeared. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were contacted, could not duplicate problem. they said it is the tipm computer. second incident occurred exactly the same as 1st incident (took to mechanic) told him truck stalled again making right turn at light, almost hit another car. the approximate failure mileage was 76,000. *dt*jb *tt consumer stated codes indicate major computer issues. replaced battery, alternator maintenance to fuel tank, etc. vehicle dies while driving. dealer wants to replace fuel pump and computer tipm.*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. the vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normally. in addition, when making turns, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to autonation chrysler dodge jeep ram of katy (located at 21777 katy fwy, katy, tx 77450, (281) 715-6920) where it was diagnosed that cylinder number three was misfiring from the engine. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact later took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the lifter in the engine and camshaft failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 94,000. the vin was not available.
My check engine light came on while driving apprx 65 on the free way. i checked the code p0305. slight sputter at first. now low power below 30mph and major jump into gear higher than 30mph. almost as if skipping a gear. mechanic diagnosed it as a cam failure causing a misfire, possibly from evidence of spring seizure.
There are thousands of ram 1500 owners having this problem. the lifters in the motor have a defect in the needle bearings, because of the demand for these lifters i will be without a vehicle for 2 months. i find this unacceptable and i guarantee you all the other owners do also.
I had taken my vehicle to lodi cdjr to have recall work performed. they then inspected my vehicle and found both exhaust manifolds warped and studs holding them to the block broken. they recommended replacement of manifolds. i had the work performed at my private mechanic who stated that they see this repair frequently. i looked at dodgeramforum online and saw this damage talked about a lot. it is my understanding that the 5.7l hemi block is aluminum and the exhaust manifold steel, 2 dissimilar metals. in the engine compartment where temperatures can exceed 400 degrees f and then cool back down, dissimilar metals expand and contract at different rates, putting sheering force on the connecting bolts, causing them to break. which mine did. this repair cost me $890 and could easily happen again because the dissimilar metal situation is by design and really cannot be cured. i called a lemon lawyer who directed me to dodge's own customer service. i explained my complaint to the dodge customer assistance center representative (1-800-423-6343) who said he was familiar with this complaint and recommended that i contact you. he gave me a reference number for my case: 57938794, to give to you. i feel cdjr is well aware of the flaw here and should be held responsible for it by recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. while driving various speeds, the vehicle lost power and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was informed that the engine needed to be repaired. the contact called bob richards chrysler dodge jeep ram (1666 jefferson davis hwy, graniteville, sc 29829, (855) 984-5458) and was informed to schedule a service appointment. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 215,641.
Should. the leak and problem gets worse over time. 12/26/18-76,xxx miles.
Occasionally when decelerating engine shuts off causing loss of power steering. has happened multiple times (3) over past year when on board cpu started causing single headlight to stop functioning. there are no traditional fuses for lights.
Vehicle fails to start in the morning. once it is started, it runs fine. it will restart if not left more that 4 hours. it is parked in a garage at night and the temprature never gets below freezing.
My 2012 ram 4x4 with the 5.7 hemi had 102k miles on it when i purchased it, at 105k miles the check engine light came on the code was po302 #2 cylinder misfire. i didn't make it to my 1st oil change b4 it went out. i have made 3 payments on it, now its a money pit and i can not afford to repair it, and if i let it go back to bank it screws my credit up lol how's that for you all lol i have 5 ppl in my family i traded my last truck in on this 1 for piece of mind for the family , now it is a yard ornament and soon ill be walking to and from work if i don't lose my job due to being late from having to walk to work lol if it wasn't for bad luck......
Known major issue with with ram hemi 5.7l lifters going bad and eating into camshaft. my truck has started this problem and will only get worse without major repairs, causing decrease of acceleration and eventually motor lock up. dodge/chrysler knows this problem and, as yet, has done nothing about it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning. the contact stated that the check engine and electronic throttle control (lightning bolt warning symbol) indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. simultaneously, the vehicle accelerated rapidly. the contact depressed the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. sterling heights chrysler jeep dodge ram (40111 van dyke avenue, sterling heights, michigan 48310, (586) 939-3900) was made aware of the failures and stated that the accelerator pedal assembly needed to be replaced and that an electrical failure occurred. the accelerator pedal assembly was replaced, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 91,000. the vin was not available.
The exhaust manifold leaks due to broken bolts adhering manifold to engine. the problem is wide spread and a known problem with this vehicle, it is possibly allowing exhaust gas into passenger compartment due to leak from poor design, costing consumer more than 1000$ to fix both sides of manifold.
Started hearing a loud ticking sound coming from engine on passenger side when engine is cold. once engine warms up sound goes away.
Truck engine began tapping and had poor acceleration. dealership has diagnosed a cylinder 5 miss fire. changing lifters and cam shaft. truck has 74,000 miles.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning after striking a bump in the road. the contact stated that the vehicle lost power completely. the contact pulled over to the side of the road and parked the vehicle. the vehicle was able to restart after slowly turning the ignition key. the contact stated that the ignition switch was faulty. bimidji chrysler center llc (755 paul bunyan drive nw, bimidji, minnesota 56601, (218) 751-8006) was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 140,000. *dt*jb
When starting the vehicle the is a distinct ticking sound coming from the passenger side. as the vehicle warms up it goes away. after later diagnosis, it was found that the bolts on the exhaust manifold had broke off or sheared off from the head. this was said to be a common issue with ram trucks because of the heat displacement issue. i come to find out that chrysler has no record or intention of addressing this issue. the current warranty will only cover a fraction of cost. if this is a common issue, it should be fixed instead of making the consumer pay more for the product defects.
Exhaust manifold header bolts are prone to breaking due to an incompatibility between the aluminum block and the cast iron header manifolds. they expand/contract at different rates causing the bolts to stretch and eventually break off causing a manifold leak, which reduces performance, decreases gas mileage and let's exhaust gasses enter the atmosphere without going through the catalytic converter. this occurred on the right side of the engine on my truck at 65,000 miles, and again on the left side at 78,000 miles.
Exhaust manifold bolts break. most people i have talked to with a 4th generation ram have or had the same issue. it is an obvious design flaw. my truck only has 35k miles on it.
When i start my truck the lifters are knocking and a tapping sound! and my truck its bogging down losing power. when i step on the gas it take it longer to reach power than usually. the rpms seem stuck it never done this before. i want to get it fix. i dont want no further problems. i hope you guys can help out with my situation! thank you for your time!
Exhaust manifold bolts have broken off right side of the engine. left side broke off in 2015 and were replaced under warranty. statement of defective bolts was the reason and when asked to replace both sides of the engine with the new bolts, the dealership stated they were good bolts. dealership detected the exhaust leak and broken bolt on 5/09/18.
Tipm computer issues. fuel pump not shutting off dur to relay sticking inside the tipm. random engine shutdown in traffic. abs system inactive due to electrical issues inside the tipm. engine codes from options not installed in the truck from factory. tipm not recognizing key in ignition (cannot start with key. only by remote) brake failure due to abs module not getting signal from tipm.
Camshaft and lifters are not working right and damaging the camshaft
Exhaust manifold bolts are broke off in the block!!!!!
Vehicle engine intermittently shuts down / powers off when slowing down. this has happened numerous times and the issue seems to be getting worse even after repairs. this is a major safety hazard and could cause serious injuries. 4/16/18 engine died 3 times on the way home from picking up my daughter from school, 5/1/18 driving on fm 2100 going approx 45 mph vihle comptely shut off at the intersection of fm 2100 & foley rd, was almost rear ended. 5/23/18 slowing down to turn on a 2 way street taking my daughter to school my engine shut off and i almost hit a vehicle head on with my kids in my truck. this tipm has been replaced, floor board gets extremely hot at times, fuel pump & external relay, issues with starting and dieing since approx. nov 2017.
2012 dodge ram 1500 express 2wd / 2 door truck. on march 21, 2018 at 9:00 am, i had a fire in the center of my steering wheel by my airbag. i took the truck to the dealer and they told me that my entire electrical wire harness caught on fire for no apparent reason. i called my insurance company and they told me they will only cover normal wear and tear. i believe this is a assembly and manufacturing issue with these vehicles now made in mexico by inexperience and incompetent people working at chryslers new manufacturing plant for cheap foreign slave labor in mexico. the entire wire harness from my steering wheel all the way to my engine through the fire wall needs to be replaced now costing me well over $2200.00. the main wire harness is now a lot thinner wires and not protected from coming into heat or contact and weather conditions in the engine area. my main electrical wire harness in my truck caught on fire on me on wednesday march 21, 2018 at 9:00 am. i just wanted to report this issue to you.
2012 ram1500 - 74,250 miles. started on 3/5 - got off the highway to gas up. filled it and then check engine light came on. believed it to be "gas cap" issue, since i just gassed up. brought it to a auto parts store for a quick check. p303. engine misfire cylinder 3. initially replaced ignition coil, then spark plugs, no change in issue. each time the light came on, i was driving above 50 mph. taken it again to two auto parts stores, and each gave the same error code of p303. taken it car repair center, they diagnosed, engine misfire too, but also seen in other cylinders. replaced all ignition coils and all spark plugs, same issue. cleaned fuel system 2x believing it was carbon build up, still check engine light, same error code. advised by shop to contact ram trucks, not the dealer to ask for assistance, they, the shop, indicated that the issue they see, is the cams and lifter not working, and it is a "known" issue. contacted ram trucks, they opened a case and directed me to take to a dealership to get it diagnosed as the first step. in talking with the service manager, he said, the engine is misfiring at "idle" not at higher speeds. they are going to work on an estimate for two possible solutions, one being the cams/lifters and the other was something else, my fault for not getting that other, but believing it is the cam/lifter issue. at this time waiting on determination. but unsure what help, if any, will be offered for this issue. research on this site and others indicate quite a lot of problem with "ticking" or cams/lifters.
