AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 10 MANUAL TRANSMISSION 4 CLUTCH ASSEMBLY 1

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2007 Nissan Xterra

Transmission has been making a loud noise, a loud "clunk" periodically when in motion and more prevalent going uphill. the mechanic stated the transmission needs replaced due to radiator fluid leaking into transmission and has ruined transmission.he stand transmission fluid is contaminated.

All the sudden my xterra would not accelerate and shut down. towed to garage to find out collect leaked with oil and damaged transmission and radiator. called dealership who provided no help and quote for $5800.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. while driving approximately 35 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the transmission failed and needed to be rebuilt or replaced. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 127,000.

Radiator defect caused transmission failure.

The radiator had failed and allowed radiator fluid to mix with transmission fluid. this ruined the transmission which will cost thousands of dollars. we always took care of our suv so we should not have to be dealing with these problems. we currently cannot afford the repairs so we will have an suv parked and that we cannot drive. we had to pull over in the middle of the highway due to the vehicle's extremely hot temperature.

In march 2019 the transmission started getting sluggish while dropping my daughter at school one day. eventually it would not switch gears as i pulled in my driveway from my 1.5 mile trip to/from the school. eventually it wouldn't even start in my driveway even with good battery. replaced a fuse for the transmission control module and was able to start the vehicle but it blew the fuse. had my vehicle towed to our mechanic and he discovered discovered that the coolant mixed with transmission fluid and now i have to replace everything involved. also, the mechanism that opens the tailgate/trunk door/liftgate will not stay open, especially in colder weather. it has hit several people in the head and is a definite hazard.

I was driving down a busy city street when the transmission stopped shifting. the speed of the car decreased and left me right in the middle of the street. i than had it towed to a nissan dealership and said it has been cross contaminated with the radiator and will be a $4,800.00 fix.

Transmission failure due to leak from radiator cooling system fluid intermixing with transmission fluid. check engine light came on while driving, went to repair shop the code p0717 came up. upon inspection by the repair shop it was determined that the transmission, radiator, and all hoses, etc. that interconnected the transmission and radiator had to be replaced.i live in california and the problem occured in arizona.

I was driving in an intersection when my gears slipped almost causing a multi-car collision because my car was shifting correctly. i wasn't sure what happened until it happened a couple of more times the same day. i knew immediately that something was wrong with the transmission on my automatic 2007 nissan xterra. i've had no issues with the transmission or car at all until then. the engine is strong and sound. everything works except now the transmission has failed. i use this vehicle simply to drive to work and state to state highway traveling. i took it to my mechanic after the incidents and noticing a milky brown substance leaking from the radiator. opened it up and the radiator was completely mixed with transmission fluid. apparently, the hoses from radiator and transmission are intertwined from the factory manufacture build. this mistake is now going to cost me thousands of dollars and could have potentially costs human lives in a horrific accident! after researching online this seems to have happened to thousands of xterra and frontier owners. these cars need to be recalled or else several highway/safety issues will occur. imagine driving and suddenly you have no powertrain to redirect your vehicle from oncoming cars on a street or highway. or in my case when yielding and turning in an intersection where vehicles are traveling towards you and you cannot move. luckily some cars swerved out of the way. also, the financial cost of the vehicle is absurd for something that could have been avoided from the manufacturing build altogether.

Transmission/ coolant leak vehicle parked and started to drive less than 10 mph , vehicle failed had to be towed to repair shop

Stop and filled it up with gas starter down the road an check engin came on stop and turn it off now tthe motor wont turn the transmission was working perfeict the codes c1163 sent it to ted russell nissan they tell me its the transmission is bad no pink water in the radiator cost 5000 dollars to fix why cant a bunch of people thats having the problem sue nissan i was driving down the road

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. while idling at a stop sign, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle had to be pushed off the roadway and towed home. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the radiator ruptured, causing coolant to enter into the transmission. the contact called autonation nissan (811 thornton rd, lithia springs, ga 30122, (770) 674-6080), but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

Transmission fluid in radiator in 2016, had to rebuild radiator. 2018 gas gauge fuel sensor not reading accurately. only registers 1/4 tank even when filled.

Vehicle transmission started to slip and now, the transmission does not engage at random times causing power loss while in motion whether driving on highways or city streets. this problem is not worsen or aliviated by turning or breaking. the transmission will eventualy engage after slowing the vehicle down and later accelerating. the vehicle was brought to a trained mechanic who found that the coolant fluid was entering the transmission and oil was mixing with the coolant fluid. a second opinion from another trained mechanic verified the same problem.

Loss of power due to leak of the radiator to the transmission, follow by transmission failure. the vehicle runs in one gear and the dealer suggested changing the transmission for $4,000 are they crazy..........2007 nissan xterra with low miles 89,000 one owner. i am never buying nissan again

Radiator and transmission fluid mixed now it`s going to cost $5000.00 dollars for new trans.

Lack of recall for the transmission failure. the transmission does shift from park to neutral to reverse and then drive but once in drive it stays in a lower gear like 1st. while driving on a city street all of the sudden i noticed that the vehicle was making a sound as if it were not shifting to a higher gear. i then noticed that the check engine light came on. we took the vehicle to a repair shop and they checked the engine code and they said it was a transmission issue and that we needed to take it to a transmission shop. we took it to a transmission shop and they said that the codes is for transmission failure. repair cost will be about 5000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. while driving various speeds, the contact experienced a bumpy ride. in addition, the vehicle would decelerate, the odometer would decrease, and the vehicle stalled. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the failure occurred three separate times. an independent mechanic diagnosed that transmission fluid was leaking into the radiator. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer and the dealer were not contacted. the failure mileage was 126,000.

Takata recall i have a 2007 nissan exterra 4wd. i checked my radiator fluid since i was not getting heat during parked idle. after letting the motor cool enough to remove the radiator cap, to my surprise there is transmission fluid in my radiator. i have owned this car approximately three years and never once got a letter. when i called nissan today 11/10/2017 i was informed that the recall ended in 2016 or at 100,000 miles. in which case i was told nothing could be done.

My transmission went out due to a radiator defect in the 2005-2010 xterras. i know there is a class action lawsuit involving this issue and consumers are attempting to force a recall of this generation of nissans. the repair cost $4,200 and i was without a vehicle for over two weeks. the repair shop stated that i had significant water damage to the computer, which is typical of this defect. i was able to drive my vehicle to the shop, but i was very concerned about driving it from my location since i was hiking in the mountains approximately 40 miles from home when it became apparent there was a major issue.

My vehicle lost power while i was driving. the transmission was damaged as a result of a faulty radiator issue allowing fluid to leak into and destroy the transmission. nissan will not do anything to help repair.

Transmission failed while vehicle was moving. research shows that transmission failure is due to a design flaw where engine coolant can leak into the transmission.

Total transmission failure caused by a cracked radiator that allowed engine coolant to mix with transmission fluid. cost to fix is more than the value of the vehicle. the defective radiator has no recall on it although the problem is well known to nissan.

While on a camping trip from california to nebraska to watch the eclipse, my xterra suddenly and without any warning (no warning lights) lost power and came to a complete stop in an intersection near aliance, ne. we were driving the speed limit but could easily have been in an accident if this had been a more populated area. we were able to "coast" it off the highway into a parking area and arrange for a tow truck to pick us up.the nearest nissan dealer is 500mi. away in denver so had my vehicle towed to aaa recommended shop. they diagnosed transmission failure due to radiator crack and unit sending coolant into the transmission. my vehicle has less 98k mi. on it.! estimated cost of repairs $3-8,000.00. to complete repairs they would have to have parts sent from california, so they advised me junk the vehicle or tow back to california. since i'm a senior living on fixed income i do not have funds to purchase another vehicle. so i had to rent a car ($800.00) to get back to california and have the xterra transported ($1,100.00) back to be repaired. think it is shameful that there was no notice from nissan about this so consumers could take preventative measures. i have been a loyal customer, this is the second nissan product i've owned, but now because nissan is not standing behind its product, even after the repairs i will have a "worthless" vehicle that i have had to put thousands of dollars into..so this will be my last purchase from this company.

Transmission failure due to radiator leaking into transmission

External transmission cooler/radiator assembly leak has caused the transmission on my vehicle to become inoperable. the mixing of the vehicle coolant and the transmission fluid caused the transmission control module/transmission body assembly to malfunction. thus the vehicle refuses to start as the transmission will not operate. i am now required to replace the radiator and transmission control module at more than $2k out of pocketpin addition to towing and rental vehicle expenses. the vehicle ran fine and no slipping was detected prior to the malfunction even after multiple transmission fluid changes. the vehicle was parked in my garage requiring a tow to a mechanic after running without any issues the previous day. apparently this is a widespread issue that nissan has known about for years in the xterra, pathfinder, titan, and armada models. nissan failed to notify vehicle owners of steps to avoid costly repairs by simply using a different noncorrsive automatic transmission fluid and to replace the faulty radiator and external transmission cooler assembly. i am now left in a greater undue hardship thnks to nissan's gross negligence regarding an all too common issue that nissan failed to address with thousands of complaints and documented examples. the extension of the warranty does adequately cover vehicle owners who all seem to fall victim outside of the warranty coverage period that nissan specifically increased due to the faulty equipment and fluids that nissan recommended and even required.

Transmission fluid mixing with colling antifreezer due to a defective bad designed radiator,

Faulty radiators in nissans are leaking coolant into the transmission, destroying the seals, valves and torque converter.

Nissan dealership notified me about needing to replace the entire timing chain system. after doing research, it is evident nissan knew about faulty timing chain tensioners and guides that it was using on certain model year xterras, including 2007. if timing chain fails while vehicle is in motion, it can lead to catastrophic engine failure and a $8000+ repair bill for a new engine. nissan knowing about this problem sent service bulletins to its service centers but did not inform consumers about the problem. the timing chain should be good for the life of the engine, but now my local dealership is telling me it is going to cost at least $1900 to replace the timing chain and all components. nissan knew the components are faulty and yet don't care enough to inform consumers. this isn't the first time this has happened. nissan knew that the transmission coolers on same model year were faulty and did not inform consumers. class action lawsuit forced nissan to face the music, but consumers still had to pay over $2000 out of pocket to replace transmission, transmission cooler, and radiator.

Was driving down the road, and all of a sudden, transmission started downshifting. i pulled over, popped the hood, and smoke was coming from the transmission fluid. i checked it, and it was normal level but extremely hot. i let it cool down, and i started driving down the road again, and the overdrive starts rumbling; feels and sound like i'm driving over a rumble strip. transmission shop says, the transmission needs replacing.

Transmission failed without warning.

Radiator leaked into the transmission rendering both defective and in need of replacement. no heat when car not moving, transmission slipping and skipping while driving.

Was driving home from albuquerque nm to moriarty nm when had vehicle overheat stopped vehicle and checked antifreeze and in the reservoir found pink looking liquid let it cool down had husband check it and had coolant and transmission fluid mixed after this vehicle wouldn't shift properly also i was on i40 when it occurred

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. while driving 40 mph, an abnormal noise was heard and the transmission failed to operate. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 118,000.

Well the transmission and radiator leak took the my xterra in to nissan mcgavock and they told me that i needed to get transmission and radiator replaced and now i have no car and me and my wife have to walk to bus to take my daughter to school and i go to work on bus and so does my wife.. they told me from mcgavock nissan that they could fix it for 5800.00 dollars. this is a shame that you dont know what to do about helping people out and getting this fix. xterra does not run it is broke..

While driving, the car started not to shift well when changing gears. i've noticed on the highway and on the city roads. i took it to the dealer within that week and they said it was my transmission and that it will cost over $3000 to fix. when i purchased the car 2 years ago, i also purchased a bumper to bumper warranty that included the transmission. i did not have the paperwork with me so i had to go home to look for it. once i found it, i called and sent the copy directly to the dealer. they called me the following day saying my warranty covers everything except intermix ingrid which was exactly what it was. i spent extra money to make sure if anything happens to my car i could get it fixed with the warranty. they told me they couldn't do anything and to fix it i must pay the $3000. i had my car for 2 years and it only has 75,000 mikes and now my transmission goes out? i researched what intermix ingrid is and found out i'm not the only one with this problem??! nissan isn't taking responsibility and instead charging us all $3000+ to get the problem that everyone is having fixed. there should be a recall or the warranty should cover this problem. nissan should not be making a profit on an issue they are aware and not trying to notify people about.

Takata recall i was never told to replace my radiator to protect my transmission. i now have to replace my radiator and transmission. cross contamination. nissan did nothing to inform me of this problem. i'v taken it to bellevue nissan for more than 5 years. not even a courtesy heads up. you can still save other customers. please make them tell their customers to replace the radiator. i absolutely loved my x up to this point. they've lost all credibility. very disappointing as a x customer and x fan.

Took suv to woodbury nissan, hearing sounds when driving and no heat. the radiator coolant leaked into the transmission. both needs to be replaced. there was never a recall or any notice to me in the 9 years i have had this from new.i feel nissan should have recalled this, and consumers should not have to pay for a defect they knew about. *tr

My suv was on a highway, and 4wd indicator light came on and vehicle made a vibrating noise, pulled off and turned vehicle off and would not restart, the suv was towed to the nissan dealership for diagnostic test. results: the codes u1000, p1807 and p0717 (transmission) cost $4, 491,58. in april 2016, i had a leak from the radiator that ruined the transmission. i initially had the radiator replaced and the transmission flushed, cost $1000 at nissan dealership. this was only a band-aid however, and did not fix the problem. 6 months later transmission failed. nissan put the consumer under the bus. i filed a complaint with nissan consumer affairs case# 24403641 with no assistant, due to the mileage of 100k exceeds warranty. nissan was aware of this default in radiators back in 2007 and did not notify a recall to the consumer. a cross contamination where coolant leaks into the transmission and destroys the transmission. i will never buy another nissan product, due to this ordeal and very difficult situation. i've always maintained my suv on all required maintenance. nissan corporation needs to assist the consumer, and the extended warranty and deductible was a joke. there has been over 2500 consumers affected by this issue. nissan continues to sell their products and i would highly advise consumers to stop buying nissan, not a trustworthy company period. regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Another frustrated 2007 nissan xterra owner who's radiator and transmission had to be replaced. three weeks ago noticed some tranny slippage while driving (normally 80 miles a day, 5 days a week and all on highways), checked fluid, no problem, no leaks or nothing, though maybe just drain and change fluids. then 1 week ago today, i was at a stop light when my temperature gauge spiked to hot and radiator started to smoke, started to move on the green light to pull over to side of road from a four lane highway and i was in the second lane over, car started to chug and barely made it to the side of road before it quit, then a gray colored fluid started draining out of my radiator overflow all over the ground. had to make the call to a shop and they knew exactly what the problem was before they came and got it. the car got towed to shop where they quoted me $5590 for towing, new radiator and rebuilt tranny. wtf'. *tr

Coolant contamination in the transmission causing engine failure and transmission failure. also blows fuses and car will not start. was sitting at a red light when it turned green and i accelerated the car would not go. when i got to a safe place to turn it off it would not turn back on. upon further investigation i am one of many that have complained about this and nissan has yet to recall this issue. i was lucky to be at a red light and not driving on the interstate. also this is my 16 year olds car and thank goodness she wasn't driving it when it happened.the car was purchased less than a month. ago with 133000 miles on it and was running great until today. this issue could be very dangerous and should be taken care of by the manufacturer.

Service engine light came on the vehicle. took it to my local mechanic. mechanic said it was throwing transmission codes suggested take it to dealer towed car to nissan dealer. they told me the radiator coolent had leaked into the transmission proceeded to quote me a price of 6042.00 for new transmission, radiator and coolant. what i don't understand is if this is a known defect why doesn't nissan make this right? i bought this vehicle used in january from a dealership it is now october and i have a vehicle that repairs are going to cost almost as much as i paid for car. i was driving down the road then wham my vehicle is ruined because of pure greed. why can't someone care about hard working people and make companies who produce defective stuff be held accountable?

Transmission contamination by coolant costing $4578

I was driving the vehicle on the highway, when the automatic transmission stopped shifting gears and the car decelerated. after it came to a stop, the car would not start again. after talking to mechanics, it appears that a defect in the radiator caused the radiator and transmission fluid to intermix, wrecking both the radiator and transmission.

Driving auto starting making noise like going over rumble strip, then wouldn't start but could be started by crossing wires under hood. took to dutro in zanesville, they installed new computer system. still wouldn't start, they told me i needed a new transmission for intermix problem. 6000 dollars. contacted nissan the bbb. no help! 100100 miles on it. never received a recall or anything. shouldn't there have been a recal?

Check engine light came on went to nissan place where they did a test on it and calm the did not exactly what was wrong but it had something to do with the transmission and gave me prices on replacing the transmission. they did not tell me they have been having problems with their transmission. they also calm they did not know what the code that it was putting out mean just that it had something to do with the transmission (lies) finally after almost a month my car stopped, i took it to a transmission shop and it was took apart is when i was told it had coolant in it from the radiator that has cause damage to my transmission it was then that i went on line to learn of this problem i am asking for a recall and reimbursement of this cost due to the fact that nissan knows about this problem. i was stationary at the time of this incident. at this time my car is in shop due to the fact that i do not have over 3000 dollars. i brought this car new in 2007 and i am the only owner and keep my maintance up

My vehicle was driving perfectly without any issues at all until one day on the way home i stopped at a stop sign near my home. then as i started to proceed down the city street the check engine light and 4wd lights came on in the dash and the vehicle would barely move. i just barely got it into the driveway of my home. after i turned it off i attempted to restart the vehicle it would not even attempt to turn over. i checked online to see what would cause these symptoms to find that hundreds upon thousands of other nissan owners have had the same happen to them. it is a known issue of cross contamination of radiator fluid and transmission fluid due to a faulty design in the radiator. i had a mechanic check my engine as well and he confirmed that the grey sludge in the radiator and grit in my transmission fluid fit the symptoms of this issue. now i am being told i have to pay over $5000.00 to have repairs done because of a design flaw that nissan refuses to take full responsibility for. i am lucky that this failure happened in my neighborhood versus the interstate or it could have not only left me with figuring out how to come up with $5000.00 but how to pay for hundreds of thousands of dollars for repair bills to other cars i might have caused to wreck do to this catastrophic transmission failure.

Our car had no pickup when taking off from stop light and making a left turn. we were crossing traffic which made this quite scary as we almost stalled in the middle of the road. we pulled into a parking lot and turned it off. wouldn't start back up and the gear indicator on the dash wasn't showing which gear it was in. had it towed to the dealership and was told the coolant leaked into the transmission, which is a known problem with this car, and contaminated the transmission and the sensors. i was never contacted about this issue so i didn't know about it until i went online and saw all of the other complaints from people with the same issue. i just went over the 100,000 mile mark this year so nissan will not fix it. i don't understand why this isn't a recall issue instead of a warranty extension issue with nissan willing to cover the cost over $3,000. who has $3,000 that they can afford or even have for that matter? i've filed a complaint with nissan and am hoping that someone will help me either pay for this or give me full fair market value for the car so i can buy another one and use this as a trade in. not sure that i'll buy a nissan though, if they don't take care of me, that's for sure. the other issues that i've had with this car is the fuel sensor went out, which i've also seen other complaints on and the windshield wiper motor on the passenger side has gone out. not sure if this has been something that others have experienced or not. all in all this has been a great car,but considering i bought it used with very low miles on it and just made my last car payment 4 days ago, i'm absolutely sick over this. even worse is the fact that we could've been killed by oncoming traffic but were fortunate enough that the car did make it before any cars got too close to us. is that what it's going to take before nissan does something?

Transmission appears to have coolant mixed into it. also the fuel send unit has failed

Was having trouble with transmission on 07 nissan xterra. found a lawsuit that had been settled with nissan involving factory defects of the radiator oil cooler which leaks into transmission and destroys transmission. took an oil sample from my vehicle to an independent company and was told that their was antifreeze in the oil. took my vehicle and the oil sample into nissan so that my transmission could be replaced. ($2500 cost to me per the nissan lawsuit settlement) service department called back and tried to tell me that without dropping the transmission that they could tell that the antifreeze was not the cause of my failed transmission. after further discussion with the service manager who admitted that they couldn't tell what caused the failure of my transmission and that my oil sample proved that the factory defect was the most likely cause of my transmission failure, he then proceeded to explain that they had to follow nissan procedure which was a visual inspection. my oil sample trumped their visual inspection but they still refused to fix my vehicle even under the laws of the nissan settlement which was supposed to cover my vehicle. i first started having problems while driving, my xterra almost doesn't even run now and is definitely not road safe any more yet nissan still won't fix it.
