Problems with 2007 Nissan Xterra FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

On average, the 2007 Nissan Xterra starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE and its various aspects after 59 411 miles.

Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2007 Nissan Xterra

Apparently, this is happening to large number of nissan vehicles. it started with my gas meter getting stuck on a quarter of tank. and twice i ran out of gas, thinking i still had some gas left in tank. now my empty tank light cuts on usually after i get around a half of tank. when i fill up it may take 2 or 3 trips before the sensor gets off of reading no gas. my check engine light is on as well. very frustrating not knowing how much is in tank, especially on long trips. frustrating as well, having to put gas in xterra every 2-3 days not knowing how much is actually in tank. *tr

My fuel gauge registered only 1/2 of the last quarter so i completely filled up. when i started the car up the fuel gauge now read totally empty, with the yellow empty light on. i knew it was full so i reset the odometer to track mileage to estimate fuel content. after about two driving cycles the gauge eventually made it to the full mark and seemed to come down normally. this has happened now three more times. i understand there has been a recall, but my vehicle is outside the time (sept 2013) and distance (72000) miles allowed for the recall. it's now may 2014, with 76000 miles. the dealer, and the nissan 800 number just blew me off as being outside the recall warranty limits. one of the times the gauge hung up at the last quarter tank, you could run out of fuel in traffic or an intersection. i feel it's serious enough to rate as a safety issue. *tr

Transmission failure in my 07 nissan xterra. a complete loss of motive power and needed to be towed. the dealer diagnosed the problem as a failed transmission fluid cooler located in the radiator assembly that allowed coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid, resulting in damaged internal transmission components and a damaged internal transmission computer. was told that this is a huge problem with these vehicles and the nissan corporation is well aware of this problem. *tr

The "check engine" light on my 07 xterra went off when leaving my garage. using my scangauge, i found out my engine was showing error code p0463. when we got home i jumped on the net and discovered that it meant my fuel level sensor was malfunctioning and that, while no real threat to my safety was posed other than possibly running out of gas by surprise, it seems this is a very common problem with xterras. so common in fact, that previous generation nissans were actually recalled for a similar issue. unfortunately, no recall has been placed on the part for the 2nd gen yet, and so nissan customers are being forced to have the dealer make the repair to the tune of about $600. also it seem like a lot of other people are having the same issue with this faulty part according to the internet.

Check engine light came on. diagnostic computer shows error "fuel level sensor circuit high voltage." this is apparently a very, very common problem. mechanic says this will eventually, if left un-repaired, destroy my main computer on the car. repair estimate is $700, which includes a complete change-out of the fuel pump assembly. *tr

My wife refueled her vehicle and the "service engine soon" light came on. the gas gauge then went from full to zero and low fuel light came on. soon after, the tmps sensor also went out. i thought it might be the gas cap being lose, but it wasn't. the gas gauge will fluctuate between empty and full. this is my wife's car and it is a hazard to be driven on the road, especially if she runs out of gas. *tr

Ongoing problems with p0463 code and ses light. fuel sensor does not function correctly, so i of not know how much gas is in my car. apparently there was a recall on this for the 2006 and 2008, but not the 07? this is dangerous! i do not want to run out of gas while i'm driving! *tr

Fuel level sensor was malfunctioning on my xterra, seems to be an ongoing thing with xterras since people keep posting about it http://www.clubxterra.org/forums/showthread.php?t=10923 and http://www.denlorstools.com/autoblog/2010/08/xterrapathfinder-fuel-gauge-erratic-p0463-check-engine-light/ this should be recalled. *tr

I have researched and found many other have had the same issue with the fuel sensor on 2007 xterra. last gen was recalled and they need to recall this year. i have ran out of gas twice already while driving down the highway. i am also having a loud wining noise coming from the engine due to a failed timing chain tensioner. both these items need to be recalled before somebody gets killed. *tr

I filled up my gas tank and when i left the gas station and started driving home the "service engine soon" light came on. the gas gauge did not read as a full tank either and i also full my tank up every time i get gas. i also reset to odometer so i know how many miles i get with each tank of gas. i took my nissan xterra 2007 to have them read the code to me and it came back "p0463". this is the fuel sender unit sensor. apparently, this problem seems to be an long ongoing issue with nissan. it should be a recall defect but it is not. the sensor part goes bad and they want the customer to pay out $600. to fix the problem. this is s problem that needs to be fixed by the dealership! *tr

Check engine light is on. took car to dealer and they came up with code p0463 regarding the fuel sending unit. needed a new fuel sending unit & gauge assembly installed for about $430.00. nissan had issued a warranty notification regarding this, extending the warranty to 72 months (6 yrs) / 72,000 miles. we were beyond the revised warranty period so we had to pay for the repair. nissan should be made to issue a recall and pay for the fix. to the nhtsa!! please investigate and require nissan to do the right thing! *tr

I filled up my gas tank and when i left, i noticed the "service engine soon" light and that my gas gage was in empty right after filling up. after a little while the service light would go off and the gas gage seemed to be working again. i did a little web research and found many other owners are seeing the same issue. i'm willing to live with using my trip gage because the cost to fix is too much for a known issue. love my xterra just hate this issue. what i have found is that the federal mandate on ethanol mixed gas corrodes the censure is from one person thoughts. also found that if you take it in, the code will say, p0463 which means you fuel sender unit sensor is out. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. the contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, the check engine and low fuel warning lamps illuminated. the vehicle was driven to a private mechanic where it was confirmed that the fuel sending unit failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the issue. the failure and current mileages were 82,000. the consumer stated nissan declined his request to replace the fuel sending unit under recall # 10v075000, because his vin was excluded from the recall. according to the invoice, the dealer confirmed the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced. updated 11/08/12 updated 12/11/12*lj updated 12/12/12

My 2007 nissan xterra, just passing the 50k, and now the service engine soon light on with code p0463. seems that if i keep the fuel tank filled up above 1/4, then this problem will go away, but from time to time there's a malfunction of the fuel sensor. *js

After a check engine light came on the computer showed a code of p0463, fuel level sensor circuit high input. i have read on the internet this is a very common problem with this vehicle. the dealer charges $600 to fix this problem. this needs a recall. *tr

At 4100 mile after filling the gas tank ses light came on and the fuel gauge was stuck on 1/4 tank this is a 2007 nissan xterra. *tr

Fuel sensor gives false information, vehicle runs out of gas on the freeway nearly causing fatal accident. *tr

Fuel level system malfunctioned. the gauge read 1/4 full when the tank was really empty. *tr

Service engine soon light comes on, have it checked and it shows engine code po 463 - fuel level sensor malfunction. gas gauge moves up and down while driving and distance to empty displays -----, 0 or very low mile to empty even after pulling away from the pump with a full tank. *tr

Error code p0463, fuel sensor error. when the gas tank is full, the gauge registers empty (less then e actually) until some of the fuel is used and then the gauge registers accurately (i think). *tr

We ran out of gas with half a tank on the fuel gauge. in the middle of a funeral service. not a fun day. thank you nissan for extending a warranty on the problem and not issuing a recall that everyone would find out about before running out of gas on the road. *tr

My check engine son light came on, i went to autozone and i was told the error code stated fuel sending unit/sensor. i was told that nissan recommends you keep a half a tank of gas in the tank. my xterra guage is very unpredictable 90% of the time even when i fill the tank up the guage doesn't register, and it's stuck on e with the gas light on constantly, which has caused me a single mother of 3 to run out of gas twice. i have done some research and found that there was a voluntary recall, but i've been told that there wasn't. i also live in a city where there is emissions testing which i can't pass because of the check engine light, i cannot receive my vehicle tag, which means i can't work or drive. i would like this sensor replaced at no charge to me because as reading online there has been 53,000 people with the same issue. i would like to know what are my options and the next step i can take to get this resolved. *tt

After re-fueling, the gas indicator drops below empty, and the check engine light turns on. after driving it ~100 miles, the fuel gauge will then go to approximately the real fuel level (around 3/4 of a tank). after driving about another 100 miles the check engine light turns off. every time i re-fuel, this problem occurs again. it makes it extremely difficult to tell how much gas i have left. i will never buy a nissan again. *tr

Service engine light came on then fuel gauge no longer works. seems to be a recurring problem in nissans. *tr

After fueling my 2007 xterra this morning the fuel gage only registered 1/4 tank full. a little later the service engine soon light came on. *kb

I have a nissan xterra 2007. i decided to stop at a gas station to fill it up on a 1/2 tank of gas. spent $40-$45 to fill it up. drove about a 1/2 mile down the road and noticed that the fuel gage didn't change in position. so i pull the vehicle over and shut it down and let it sit for a few minutes before i decided to start it back up. when i did, there was no change in the needle's position and the ses light popped up. whenever i fill the tank up or put any gas in the vehicle the needle goes from not moving, to empty, to where it should be after driving for a few miles and the ses light remains to be on. i went to a local garage and got read by a scan gauge and it gave me p0463 code which meant there is a fuel level malfunction. i called up a few garages including the dealer and they told me that the repair cost with parts and labor would be $500-$600. i did some researching if there has been any recalls and discovered that this has been a problem with older xterra models that continues to be a problem with the newer ones. this should not be happening with vehicle that i have had for about 4 years with only 40k+ miles on it. *tt

After filling tank with gas, the gas gauge sits on empty and does not register a full tank until a day or two later. also, the yellow "empty tank" light comes on for the same duration of time. in addition, the "service engine soon" dashboard light comes on and does not go off until a day or two after the gauge has registered the supposed correct level of the tank. *tr

I have a 2007 nissan xterra stopped in to gas station on a 1/4 tank to fill-up on 5/25/2011 put in $85.00 worth. while driving i noticed my gas gauge was still reading 1/4 of a tank and then my indicator light came on stating service engine soon after driving a few milles the gas gauge slowly went back up to full however the service indicator light still stay on. i went to a service station and was told that the problem was the fuel sending unit sensor and to check with the nissan dealer to see if this promlem would be covered under the warrenty. on 5/26/2011 called nissan dealer service dept was told this was not covered due to the fact that my car had over 30k. did some reseach online and found out that many of the 2005-07 nissan's are having the same problem. nissan had a recall for their 2000-2004 car's which had the same problem - i beleive this is a major problem and should be handled in the same manner the earlier models were handled by recall. *tr

Service engine soon ligh comes. tank is full and service light comes on and later showed light that tank empty. i went to auto part and they hook up machine to find out why and it showed that sensor for fuel is failing.before i was able to disconect battery and light will go off but now light is permanent. the truck has 95,000 miles and i am very up set because it should be a recall. *tt

the fuel gauge on my 2007 nissan xterra is giving wrong readings , causes engine light to come on and i have gotten stuck without gas twice .. i'm up for smog test in a couple months and because engine light is on due to this problem i'll not be able to get this car register in ca .this should be a recall ! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. the contact stated that he refueled his vehicle but the gas gauge displayed a quarter tank instead of full and the check engine lamp illuminated. the vehicle was taken to local mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel sending unit was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was contacted but he was unable to speak to a representative regarding the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 54,125.

P0463 fuel level sensor issue on my nissan xterra 2007. my automobile ran out of fuel though tank should of have approx 3 gallons left. this resulted in towing / fuel expenses and service station code reset costs. *tr

I have a 2007 nissan xterra. recently i filled up my gas tank and the service enginesoon light came on and the fuel gauge did not register full. after some time driving it slowly raised to full and a while after the service engine soon light went out. i just filled up again. the level was just below a 1/4 of a tank and now with a full tank it reads below empty, the service engine soon light is on, the empty fuel tank light is on and the gauge is not raising as it did the previous time. after doing some research on line i realized i am not the only one with this problem and that it is obviously my fuel sending unit. two weeks prior to this i had a 60000 mile service performed at nissan where they found no problems with my vehicle. *tr

Got "check engine light" error code p0463 which is failed fuel sensor previous generation of nissan xterras were recalled for this issue. repair is ~$600. vehicle has 67,000 miles. level sensor now reads unreliably which is a hazard in the winter. supposedly, the current generation of xterras have the same issue but there is no recall. nissan needs to stand behind their vehicles and take care of this issue with a real fix for this issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the fuel gauge malfunctioned and was providing inaccurate fuel level readings. the failure caused the contact to run out of fuel while driving on the highway. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic test. the test results showed that the float that read the fuel was fractured and needed to be replaced. the contact did not have the float replaced in the fuel tank. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign i.d. number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxillary tank) but due to the year of the vehicle, it was not included in the recall. the failure mileage was 180,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the vehicle would not start. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the fuel pump would need to be replaced. the fuel pump was replaced. the contact was then told that the vehicle was also running roughly and the intelligent power distribution module was replaced. the failure did not recur. the failure mileage was 93,348 and the current mileage was 94,800. updated 03/15/11 *bf updated 1/5/12 *cn

I have a 2007 nissan xterra with the same fuel gauge problem. the gage doesn't register the correct level of gas so i have to keep a close watch. i also get the service engine light and the tire pressure sensor light. *tr

I own a 2007 nissan xterra it has 76,000 miles on it. the fuel level sending unit does not work properly. when i have 1/4, 1/2 tank of gas, sometimes 3/4 tank of gas the gauge drops to empty and the service engine lite comes on. this problem started at around 56,000 mi. i have read on line that his is an ongoing problem with the xterra dating back to 2003. should this not have been a recall by nissan? fixed 2006 and 2008. with the amount of complaints, i think nissan should step up to the plate and correct the expensive deficiency. i don't understand how they can fix a later model. *tr

Fuel gauge failed to register after a fill-up - showed empty, check engine light came on shortly afterwards. *tr

Fuel gauge reads zero after filling up and low fuel warning light is on. also service engine soon warning light is on. odb code 0463. *tr

The "check engine" light on my xterra came on while driving. borrowing an autopart stores computer, i found out my engine was showing error code p0463. after a little research i discovered that it meant my fuel level sensor was malfunctioning and that, while no real threat to my safety was posed other than possibly running out of gas by surprise, it seems this is a very common problem with xterras and pathfinders. *tr

My 2007 nissan xterra (47,000miles) just stopped (no power when gas pedal is depressed) while on the freeway during a busy time... i had to try to get to the shoulder and was very dangerous. luckily the cars around me were paying attention and a huge accident was avoided. after researching this on the net, apparently this is common with this vehicle and previous models(which were issued recalls). the fuel sending unit apparently has an issue where it stops sending fuel through to the engine, without any warning or notice....this is life threatening and unacceptable.. this needs to be taken care of before people die at the hands of a faulty 20 dollar part. please please forward this or add it to the many other complaints i hope are listed... and thank you.. so far i have accumulated towing bills, rental car bills, and now have to wait for the weekday until nissan can "talk" to someone in the tech dept.. the dealerships need to be made aware of this issue and the owners need to be contacted immediately... *tr

I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. after driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. i went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. after returning home and doing research, i went online to x.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, i came across many others who have experienced the same problem. apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. a similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. it seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. there is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. if this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! cost of repair is $490. *tr

I have a 2007 nissan xterra with 40,000 miles on it. the vehicle is 3 years old and my fuel level sending unit went bad. nissan has had a recall on the 2001 to 2003 xterra for the fuel level sending unit and recently another recall for the same problem; fuel level sending unit for 2006 xterra. i see that this is an on-going problem and nissan needs to include the 2007 and possibly even the 2008 and 2009. this is unacceptable for a 3 year old vehicle part to go bad. i was stranded for about 2 hours until my husband could reach me and this is a safety issue with running out of fuel when your gauge is wrong. the "service engine soon" light came on after we ran out of gas. i took the vehicle in to the dealership and it was diagnosed as the fuel level sending unit was bad due to internal short. *tr

2007 nissan xterra fuel sending unit failed to show fuel being used in the gas tank. gauge stayed at half full for a couple of days then service engine soon light came on and gauge went to empty. i cant tell how much fuel is in the tank,i cant get an inspection sticker and the vehicle is out of warrenty. the problem has not been repaired yet because it will cost me at least $400.00. *tr

Defective fuel sending unit; gas gauge unreliable; "service engine soon" light on. *tr

My nissan 2007 xterra has been experiencing problems with the fuel gauge. i first noticed in late august of 2010 my service e gine soon light (ses) come on and it was not until a few weeks later i took in my car and was told my fuel gauge was not working properly. i have been now doing research and have just learned that many others are experiencing the same problem as i am. my gauge will mark empty after i have filled up my tank and show a full tank at about 50 miles after i have filled up the tank. my gauge will also go on e when it is at 1/4 of a tank and even at a half tank never knowing exactly how much gas is in the tank. i also read online that the 2007 xterras have a recall on the fuel system and i believe they should be replaced to anyone who is experiencing this problem free of charge. this is a serious matter and could end in accidents and possible deaths. lets see if this happens and we all get it replaced as i also found this information online from a website. dealers will replace the fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank with a new one that has a modified float arm. this service will be performed free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin on or before march 22, 2010.

The instrument panel fuel gauge shows that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. dealership to replace deformed molded fuel tank and the fuel sending unit. 2007 model is not covered by existing recall (nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000 - 06 & 08 only). *tr
