I have a 2005 nissan xterra. the vehicle is well-maintained. recently, after service the check engine light came on, and remained on for several weeks. i noticed that my gas gauge wasn't responding when i filled up the fuel tank. my fuel gauge would read 1/4 tank after filling up, and the "service engine soon" light would come on. *tr
We experienced a failed fuel level sensor on our 2005 nissan xterra. we filled the gas tank completely and then noticed the fuel gauge would not rise above 2/3. then the 'service engine soon' warning lamp came on. after researching the incident we found there are many similar incidents posted on the internet. this is a recurring problem with several nissan vehicles models and seems to be an inevitable incident with most of the models. we believe this should be a recall issue. the replacement of the defective part will cost between $300 - $400. *tr
Fuel gauge reads empty when gas is present. i do not know how much fuel is left. there is a recall on 2006 an newer vehicles of the same type. many people i talk to with the same make and year vehicle as myself have the same problem. this is a definite safety issue for me considering the extensive mileage i drive. *tr
Today i filled the gas tank on my 2005 nissan xterra, and though the tank is full, the gas gauge still reads empty and the "service engine soon" light is on. i understand that this was a known defect on pre-2005 xterras, and is increasingly emerging as a defect in more recent models. i believe it poses a safely hazard because there's no way to tell whether the 'service engine soon" light indicates a real engine problem, or just the failure of the fuel sensor. *tr
Fuel sender unit failure - sudden failure while on freeway. no check engine light or warning of failure proceeding the actually failure. sudden loss of power of the vehicle while at highway speed. *tr
Fuel tank sending unit fails at 1/4 of tank/then check engine light come on. *tr
1. service engine soon light comes on when gas gets below 1/2 tank. when i fill the tank the gauge doesn't register the fill until vehicle is restarted. or, the gauge drops to e and the light comes on. 2. occurs all the time. 3.the part required is a fuel level sending sensor unit. *tr
I filled up my gas tank and when i turned my car on, the gas gauge needle did not move to reflect how much gas was in my tank. the gas station attendant put another dollar worth of gas into my car. upon turning my car back on, the gas gauge needle still did not move and my "check engine soon" light came on. the gas cap was secure. i called the dealer and took my car into their service department. the mechanic told me they could find nothing wrong with my car and reset the light. the same problem occurred the next time i filled my gas tank. furthermore, about a month after the "check engine soon" light came back on the gas gauge will now drop below empty and my gas light will go on when i have about a half of a tank or a quarter of a tank of gas left. the "check engine soon" light remains on. *tr
Same fuel gauge problems other owners are complaining about and the lack of support from nissan. ours would read empty and low fuel light comes on below 1/2 tank of gas. took it to a nissan dealer and $741.00 later the fuel sender/fuel pump was replaced. this is my wife's vehicle and i would hate the thought of her being stranded thinking she had plenty of fuel and it runs out of gas. i guess nissan does not think of this. there should definitely be a recall on these fuel senders and issue some kind of credit or check for the owners who have already had the vehicle repaired at their expense. *tr
Service engine light came on went to have it taken care of and get an early state inspection sticker. failed inspection due to the evaporation vent control. searched online and found that i was not alone. nissan has been having this problem since 2003 on x-terra, pathfinders and frontiers. nissan knows there is a problem and has known for a long time but won't fix it. 2008 models are also starting to have problems. the fuel level sensor also went out with it as well. *tr
This vehicle has a faulty fuel gauge, gas tank, fuel pump...whatever! this is the 3rd gas tank and fuel pump for a 2005 model! the first time, after a few months of ownership, was covered by warranty. now after less than 3 yrs ownership, we have the same problem and we have to pay almost 600.00! out of warranty. this is extreme maintenance for the same problems/parts on a 3 yr old vehicle! nissan should pay for these parts. *tr
Today, i put a full tank of gas in my car but my gas gauge showed that it was 1/4 full. i had an argument with the gas station clerk that they ripped me off. since it was late at night i wasn't able to speak to the managers of that station. i decided to drive to another gas station to see if i could fill it up, but all of sudden, the service engine soon light turns on and now the gauge was completely down with the light on. the only way for me to know that my tank is full is to try to fill it up again. but, because it was full, the tank was not allowing anymore gas. i decided to do a brief research to find that many others has the same problem with my car. it's a 2005 nissan xterra with 50,000 miles. most of the people online indicated that they also have the similar problem at the similar mileage costing them over 500 dollars in repair. now that the gauge is disabled, i wouldn't know when my tank will be emptied. i could be stuck in the middle of the freeway or somewhere in the wilderness without any gas. people online were saying its part of the sensor in the car which was made faulty for many of the nissan trucks and suv's. i strongly believe that this is a bad move by nissan and i will definitely want them to have a recall. it is unfair for consumers to be paying extra 400-600 dollars to replace a faulty item. *tr
I own a 2005 nissan xterra that continues to display "check engine soon". i took it to get checked and was told that my fuel sensor needs to replaced. as soon as my fuel tank reaches 1/2 way empty it goes directly to empty!!! i never know how much gas i have in my tank. *tr
2005 xterra fuel pump level indicator, module, check engine light issues. almost everyone that has this vehicle is having the same issues. *tr
I bought a brand new 2005 nissan xterra in january of 2006. at approximately 48,000 miles the fuel sending unit went bad. after filling up with gas, the gauge did not move from almost empty and the engine service light came on. after driving around 60 miles, the gauge began to move, but eventually stalled on a half tank of gas. after a few weeks the gas gauge started working again, but now about 14 months later, the same thing is happening constantly. i have no idea how much gas i have in the tank. i was told it would cost over $500 to repair. after researching, i found that this is a common problem with nissan vehicles. there needs to be a recall before an accident happens. *tr
Fuel sending unit failure. *tr
Tl- the contact owns 2005 nissan xterra. the contact stated the fuel gauge does not read correctly. the tank can be full and it will say a half a tank and when it reaches a quarter tank the gauge will drop to empty. there is no nhtsa campaign recall on this year model and the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was had to many miles to be repaired by them. the failure mileage was 50000 and the current mileage was 81000.rl
Faulty fuel gauge sensor, repair cost $650.00 36,200 miles not covered by warranty. noticed at 35,000 plus miles. there are numerous complaints about this part. *tr
Fuel gauge in nissan xterra 2005 around 50,000 miles. *tr
I started having problems with the fuel gauge on my 2005 nissan x-terra at about 47,000miles. when i fill the tank the light does not go off and will not register a full tank on the gauge. sometimes the gauge will read a quarter left. if this happens the next time i start the car it will so empty. basically i do not have a fuel gauge, i have to remember my mileage otherwise i will be stranded. *tr
Following is a complaint already filed and received by your office: "i had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. after driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. i went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. after returning home and doing research, i went online to x.nissanhelp.com after performing a search; i came across many others who have experienced the same problem. apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. a similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. it seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. there is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. if this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterra, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. cost of repair ranges from $300-600. i had a very similar experience while traveling across the country when my odometer hit 39950+/- miles. this is evidentially a very common occurrence with the xterras, pathfinders and titans all made by nissan. while this is not a safety issue at face value, a misreading of the fuel gauge could very likely put a lone occupant in a very bad situation leading to any number of threatening situations. the fact that nissan is aware of the problem, yet refuses to address it regardless of the potential safety issues would seem to indicate, at the very least , a disregard for their customer's safety. *tr

2005 nissan xterra, check engine light comes on at 1/4 tank of fuel. gives trouble code p0463. after checking with other owners on internet, this is a wide spread problem that the manufacture is not taking responsibility to fix. *tr
Normal operation of vehicle. the fuel level was mis reading level of fuel, soon afterwards an error code p0463 (fuel level sensor malfunction) on your 2nd gen x has occurred. it has been constantly reading the error. i check the fuse box and reset the cpu, but the problem still remains. cost to replace is $600.00 which i can not afford. i am writing this to pressure nissan to recall and replace this part. my car has now 58k miles on the odometer. *tr
The service engine light came on and the fuel gauge was not working. i would fill up the gas tank and the gauge would say it was empty. the vehicle is only 3 years old with 55000 miles on it when it started to have this issue. i took it to the nissan dealer to have it repaired and it cost 400.00 to have the fuel sensor replaced. the mechanic acknowledged that he has changed the fuels sensor numerous times and nissan has refused to pay for the repair. this is an obvious defect with the nissan xterra. *tr
Check engine light came on. it was a bad fuel sending unit. i had to have it replaced. many others i know have had this happen too. it was $350 to replace. *tr
I have an 05 nissan xterra. the gas gauge shows the gas tank empty even when it contains fuel. the check engine light will come on when the tank reaches 1/4 capacity (based on odometer estimate) and will stay on for hundreds of miles (after refuel). code returned: p0463. why are 06 - 08 xterras covered? even if the 05's issue is completely independent of the 06 and up (which i don't believe), it would seem that there have been enough complaints to warrant further investigation. thank you. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan xterra. while the vehicle was parked, the contact started the vehicle and noticed the fuel gauge was not working properly. the contact stated that when she first fuels up the gas gauge works fine. she stated that the fuel gauge stops working between three quarters of a tank and a half of a tank. the failure had been on going for two years and three months. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer but the contact refused to pay for the diagnostic. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 100,800.
2005 nissan xterra - fuel sending unit failure. *tr
2005 xterra - code p0463 - fuel sending unit error. a similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed. this has become a very common occurrence now for owners with models 2005 and newer. nissan needs to remedy this situation with a recall for newer vehicles. *tr
Learned a few things on this issue. i am out of warranty as well and would have to pay out of pocket for 2005 xterra w/42,000 miles to get it fixed (dealership quotes appx $600)......kind of a rear end burner. seems like most folks are having this problem towards 3/4 to a full tank. could this part of the metal strip be corroding when it's not submerged in the fuel ?? if i have to guess it's a metal coating or type of metal used when manufactured problem. you don't have to go too far to realize this is a problem! just google "2005 nissan xterra fuel gauge issues"...or "ses light on issue" you'll see pages upon pages of consumer's getting screwed by what nissan would rather ignore!! *tr
Nissan 2005 xterra's fuel sending unit is bad on this vehicle causing fuel gauge not to work. dealer wants over $600 to fix and claims nissan won't recall because it is not a "safety issue". if an elderly woman runs out of gas on a deserted road, to me, that is a safety issue. *tr
Fuel gauge on nissan xterra 05, cel light on fail emission test va, cannot tell how much gas is in the tank.
The fuel gauge is faulty. after filling up tank it reads zero for some time until slowly progressing to correct level. also, will sometimes just drop to zero/empty. my service engine light comes on after filling up tank then goes out once i reach about half to quarter tank (if the fuel gauge is reading correctly). sometimes the engine light stays on for weeks - the code reading is for a faulty fuel level sensor. i owned the 2000 xterra and the fuel level sensor was recalled for that vehicle. *tr
Fuel sending unit died at 36800 miles; approximately 800 miles out of warranty. nissan later admitted fault (over 5 years later) and extended warranty to 72000 miles as it applies to that part, but my vehicle was well past that mileage by that point. vehicle now fails nj inspection because obd ii code is returned for faulty fuel level sensor. *tr
Fuel level sensor failed 800 miles out of warranty; causes driver to have no idea of fuel level. creates dangerous possibility of running out of fuel on highways, in traffic, etc. without motor running, power steering and power brakes do not work, creating even higher risk of accident. very common issue on 2005 xterra; should have been a recall. *tr
I have a 2005 nissan xterra purchased new in 2006. it looks new still and i take very good care of it. i reported many times about the gas gauge not working correctly to the dealer and they said it was o.k. when checked. they since sold to someone else. it has gotten worse, a light stays on all the time to check maintenance because of it and i cannot pass state inspection until i pay several hundreds of dollars to repair it. i have talked to many people i see with them, many car sales people and dealers and sometimes people will come up to me while getting gas, compliment on the condition of mine, and ask if i have the problem and many of them has a newer vehicle and/or older vehicle. this is a problem that consumers should not have to pay for to get repaired and there should be a recall. i really do not have the money to pay this and make my monthly payments also. can you help me and the many others? you fill up with gas and the gauge goes to empty until such time it goes back to reading something and a couple of times has caused us to run out of gas. *tr
Fuel gauge reading under 3/4 of a tank after fillup. i plan to replace the sending unit on the fuel tank. *tr
2005 nissan xterra, 50k miles something with the fuel sensor is not working. my fuel tank was below 1/4 of a tank. i went to go fill it up and when i looked at the gage it still read the same number. after a few seconds of driving the "check engine" light went on. i went online and read a few forms with counting over 100 people who had the same problem at roughly the same mileage. i believe that the dealer should put a recall on this product. (p0463 computer error). *tr

Bad fuel sensing unit on nissan xterra 2005. *dt
2005 nissan xterra fuel sensor issue. the fuel sensor will trigger the check engine light when refueling. the sensor will read empty on a full tank and then slowly creep up to full over time. this is the same description of an issue as the recently recalled 06 nissan xterra's. this needs to be addressed by nissan. *tr
