Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2007 Nissan Frontier

At 132,000 miles my transmission and radiator failed at the same time. i have come to understand that this is a known defect in nissans. i did not know this was an ongoing problem with nissans. the cost to repair is going to be more than $5000. this is terrible.

We are a auto dealer in ohio. after purchasing a 2007 nissan frontier crew cab 4x4 at the auction, we did a post sale inspection and it passed. we brought it home and did a 60 point inspection, outside of an airbag light issue, it passed once again. one week later, the transmission is shot. after a transmission shop called me today and said $3000 to replace transmission, i found out this is a common problem that nissan will not be accountable for. i am looking for any and all assistance. this quote sums it up well, 'simply extending the warranty coverage for the radiator without warning consumers of the consequences to the transmission only makes sense if nissan is looking to cut their losses. why didn't nissan warn consumers that the transmission could fail quickly as a result of a cracked cooler tube? how many consumers must suffer transmission failures in busy intersections and on busy, congested highways before nissan does the ethical thing and issues a safety recall?'.

While on vacation transmission failure due to coolant mixing with transmission faulty radiator taken to mt holly nissan asap while driving it was a safety hazzard

Got in my 2007 frontier to go to work on monday morning ,got about three blocks and pulled out onto the main street and my truck went from third gear back into 1st gear i was only doing the speed limit of 60km an hour, then limped it home to find out my rad was cracked ,i do take very good care of my truck and for this to go all of a sudden. i think nissan should cover the cost .i only have 110 kms on it !!!

We had just had our oil changed in our nissan frontier and had a general check of the vehicle before driving it on a vacation to another state. everything was in perfect working order. we purchased this vehicle new and it has always been well-maintained. it has 118,000 miles. while driving home less than a week after we left, we noticed that the transmission began slipping and coolant was suddenly leaking from the truck. we also noticed a pink or orange fluid mixed with the coolant. we were >3 hours away from home when this happened. the transmission slippage got worse as we were driving. we were luckily able to make it home and took our vehicle in for service. we found out that this truck has the same problem as other nissans--coolant mixed with the transmission fluid, causing the transmission to suddenly fail. now the vehicle is not driveable and were are suddenly left with a very big cost to replace the transmission. this sudden failure of the transmission without any warning is extremely unsafe. we could have been stranded far from home or worse, the transmission could have failed while we were driving, causing an accident. i know that nissan has known about this problem since 2007 and has failed to issue a recall to fix it and failed to change the design of later vehicles. we had no idea that this was a known problem with our vehicle until it happened to us. since everything was in perfect working order when we left, we had no reason to suspect that in less than a week, our vehicle would become undriveable.

Lost power to transmission while driving down road with grandson in car seat. saw the ses (service engine soon) light and coasted off to side of highway. very scary!

My truck service ligth come on 09/25/2018 took it to a transmission mechanic he said there was antifreeze in the transmission the said was bad for that he said it would cost 2500 hundred to fix i've had this truck seen 2007 i never heard anything about this problem 😒

Nissan frontier transmission reverse went out in heavy traffic.

Cross-contamination between amy freeze in transmission fluid. transmission mechanic quoted at $4000 to replace fix problem

Radiator leaked fluid into the transmission case causing transmission failure at 146000 miles. check engine light came on wile on the highway took it to the dealer and was told the transmission and radiator needs replacement for 5000 dollars.

The radiator is defective and let's the anti-frezee mix with the transmission fluid.

Transmission failure due to radiator coolant leaking into transmission. driving condition resulted in sudden hard downshifts and eventually led to a no start condition. upon inspecting, the at control fuse was blown and when replaced the vehicle cranked, only to have the fuse blow again. the transmission, likely need to be replaced to remedy the issue. this issue is known and unfortunately, little has been done to hold the manufacturer accountable.

Engine light came on, had checked by nissan dealership, said antifreeze in transmission caused by bad lines in radiator, common problem with nissan, said nissan had an extended warranty on this problem, but ran out, would cost 6,000 to fix this problem

Car stutters when i accelerate whil going uphill between 40 and 60 miles an hour. dealership mechanic reported that the transmission fluid had been contaminated by the radiator failing. there are 102,000 miles on the vehicle. the dealership is charging $6,100 to repair a truck that is worth less than that. the dealership says that as i am 2,000 miles past the warranty, they will not discount the price of repair, even though this is a well documented issue. neither the dealer i bought the truck from or the dealer performing maintenance for the last three years has ever mentioned or checked for the issue.

Takata recall transmission stop pulling i have water in my transmission no warning at all i was at a red light and it just stop going??

Takata recall, the frontier toric converter inside the transmission started vibrating and the transmission was not shifting smoothly. transmission fluid was milky looking according to napa when they changed the transmission fluid.

Known issue with this car, cross contamination radiator to transmission.. coolant leak into transmission. 6months over warranty.

The airbag started flashing and around 35-40 mph it feels like you are hitting rumble strips. took the vehicle to the nissan dealership and the radiator fluid is mixing in the transmission. replacement of transmission and radiator is over $4,500.

Transmission went into limp mode leaving driveway. cleared by shutting off & restart. did this twice then would not reset. took to shop & diagnosed contaminated tranny fluid & ruined transmission. one part replaced was nissan oem tcm. three months after rebuild same thing happened on highway but could not clear limp mode. $400 tow to shop but they said all tested and passed, reset codes. happened again on highway and drove to nissan dealer in flagstaff. they diagnosed lack of communication with tcm and said it would happen again, and to get to shop for diagnosis without turning off the engine. the third time this happened on highway drove slow in limp mode back to orignial shop that rebuilt transmission. transmission shop after diagnostic said oem tcm failed. avondale nissan supplied shop with new tcm but only after failed tcm was returned. total expenses over $7000 and loss of vehicle use for 10 days when transmission was rebuilt and 26 calendar days second time due to difficulty in shop determining exactly what failed because nissan said tcm not prone to failure history.

In january 2018 my nissan was running great ....drove to work and when i came out to go home the truck wouldn't start..my truck has been sitting since then..cant afford a new transmission but i was told it is the main board to the transmission..i have power but it will not start.the vehicle remains in my garage...i had no warning before the this happened.had to pay a tow fee straight to nissan dealer for diagnostic and they told me it was my battery and starter..we \replaced both and still nothing.i sure hope someone can help me because the cost to fix the problem as i was told was gonna be around $4500 they wanna replace the tranmission

In the middle of driving down a busy public highway the transmission starts to go out with no signs leading up to failure.

Our 2007 nissan frontier's radiator leaked into our transmission and ruined our transmission at 110,000 miles. the vehicle started slipping and stuttering changing gears while we were driving and it then locked up when we pulled into a gas station and we could not shift the car into gear. the car had to be towed where the shop is telling us it needs a new transmission and radiator. when i called the nissan dealership, they acknowledged this is a problem with this vehicle, but i am out of luck because it is no longer covered under warranty. the repair is over a $5200 fix. this is a direct result of a bad manufactured radiator, no fault of our own, and it has now ruined our truck.

Automatic transmission failure due to radiator failure and coolant contamination

Drivers airbag light is on. also transmission slipping anti-freeze mixing with transmission fluid.

Radiator leaks into transmission causing failure. the transmission slipped into neutral entering 45 mph traffic on a 4 lane city street leaving me stranded and blocking traffic. it is currently in the shop and will cost 3000.00.

When driving my 2007 nissan frontier with a 191000 miles and truck starts to slow down, it would down shift rough. made appt for next day with mechanic. it still being the same day i drove my son to the park and came to a stop , truck down shift was rough again and service engine soon light came on, pushed on gas and truck felt like it lost power. got to park a block away, turned truck off and it never started again. towed to a mechanic . $1100 later, mechanic says tow it to the nissan dealer for a diagnostic because the modular inside the transmission is not working and they can tell what's wrong. i get it towed to nissan dealer for $90 and $450(3hrs of labor to diagnose truck) later, nissan said radiator fluid cross contaminated with transmission and ruined it. also found transmission fluid and engine oil in radiator. so the radiator and transmission needs to be replaced for $6800. nissan dealer sends me service coupons, flyers to trade the frontier for newer a model to my house. they also text and call. in 2012 they settled to extend power train warranty because of this problem. why wasn't i informed of preventative maintence on a known defect.

A crack came in the radiator, forcing coolant into the transmission, damaging the transmission.

Takata recall. i went to go do a transmission flush. and mechanic says he cant flush it cause theres coolant mixed in with transmission fluid. then engine light came on while driving home.

Coolant got mixed in with transmission fluid and truck stopped running.

My transmisin stop working a dont no tha problem.

While driving on a paved state highway at aprx 50mph, the vehicle slowed down and rpm's went up. much like the transmission had downshifted. this is an automatic trans. couldn't manually get it back to normal by downshifting or putting it into neutral. service engine soon light was now lit. pulled over, stopped and turned off engine. under the hood there was no obvious sign of leaking, broken belts or smoke. restarted the truck and drove home aprx 10 miles with no problem, but service engine soon light still on. drove it the next day to autozone (5miles total) and showed codes p1774 and p0717. researching the codes led me to all the transmission replacement problems due to a failure of the trans fluid cooler inside the radiator which mixes that oil with coolant and destroys components inside the transmission and requires replacement. now i have to figure what to do facing a $6000 repair bill on a $10000 vehicle. this had me losing speed in a traffic situation that could have been dangerous and stranding us as an elderly couple with a disabled person in the arizona desert. money aside, it's pretty sad to find out that the nhtsa and nissan have known about this problem for years and neither has taken any proactive steps to inform or warn the owners. just a lot of collecting info and waiting for the vehicles to be carted off as junk and the problem swept under the rug. thanks a lot for stalling for years and doing nothing. safety doesn't just pertain to how many people died! not exactly the right thing to do!

A known issue was never corrected with my vehicle causing the coolant to leak into the transmission. nissan knew of the problem and never did anything to notify me. yet they still send me letters asking if i would like to trade in my vehicle. my vehicle broke down in ther exact way they described it would and still, they were unwilling to help with repairs.

Radiator leak resulted in replacing radiator and damaged transmission

Radiator broke and mixed fluids- both trani and radiator. trani broke as a result of it. i spent 5k to fix. i had a warranty i purchased from the dealership and it would honor the repair because it was caused by the radiator.

Defective radiator hose caused coolant fluid to seep into the transmission, damaging it entirely. cost of repairs were $4200.00. nissan neglected to notify owners of defective part and the recall for 2005-2010 models. over 2000 complaints were filed before nissan took corrective action, which included extended warranty to 100,000 miles. however, mechanical issues will not manifest until well over 100,000 miles thus absolving nissan from any responsibility or ownership.

Nissan recognized leak in radiator, leading to corrosion in transmission resulting in clunking shifting with automatic transmission, until transmission cannot shift by itself. secret warranty bulletin put out but only to nissan service centres and not shared with vehicles owners until to late for most. if they recalled or fixed the radiator, would not now need a new transmission repair for ~$7000. truck will no longer go up hills unless one shifts as if it were manual

Transmission radiator contamination. loss acceleration on hi way.

Doing general check up of my truck while performing an oil change noticed sludges in the radiator. immediately performed bypass and drained the transmission to find it full of coolant. fixed the issue myself after all the new parts arrived early enough to save the transmission. honestly feel like nissan owes everyone that had this issue a brand new truck no questions asked not right so many people have been affected by this issue and nhtsa somehow denied the claim according to their inspection do your job slam nissan make them pay up.

Our 07 nissan frontier was being driven to be inspected for registration when, at a stop light, it just turned off and would not start. we had it towed to a mechanic. he had to send it to the local nissan dealership for the computer to be replaced and reprogrammed. according to this mechanic, the leak from the radiator has mixed with transmission fluid in the transmission causing all these components to fail and need replacing. this is unacceptable!!

I have a 2007 nissan frontier with 68,000 miles. no major issues until now. started having a transmission noise during acceleration. 10/2016, took my truck to my local auto mechanic and found transmission fluid low. no signs of leaks. also check coolent and no problems seen. 11/5/16 i head a pop and saw fluid running out of coolent overflow. transmission stated slipping. 11/9/16 took truck to my local auto repair shop and they see the coolent is mixed with oil. on 11/15/16 per my local nissan dealer i have a crack in my trans coolent system which is mixing transmission and coolent fluid. in result damaged my transmission and requires replacement. he had ask me to call nissan for addition assistance. i was also told by my local nissan dealer that this problem could have been resolved by a radiator replacement. on 11/9/2016 i contacted nissanusa and i was hung up on twice. i finally got in touch with a decent person the set me up with a case. i asked for a description of the details of the warranty and they said it would be emailed. 11/15/2016, i'm still waiting for that email. i called again after getting one rude person and was put on hold then disconnected. i called back asking for financial assistance. i should be getting a call tomorrow. also, i was told about the issue a year or two ago by another nissan owner. when i contacted my local dealer to acquire about the problem and aware to they knew nothing about it. also, they did not have info of any preventive measures the could prevent this problem. if this was a know issue the we should have been notified by nissan.

The truck began losing power because it would not shift into lower gears. this put us at risk at higher speeds. the problem got worse and we took it to the nissan dealer. we learned that nissan knew of the issue, but failed to notify us. they knowingly let us drive a dangerous truck for years.. we were lucky we brought it in when we did. we always had our truck repaired at the nissan dealer, they had numerous opportunities to tell us, or write us. we have not moved! this is wrong and the class action lawsuit settlement is unfair to those of us who happened to have the issue at mileage over 100,000. the judge should have required nissan to warn us. we are going to have to pay $5000 to have this repaired, we already paid $200 dollars in new fluids thinking that was the issue.

The transmission fluid cooler in the radiator has busted causing radiator coolant to get inside the transmission. when the coolant mixed with the transmission fluid it has caused catastrophic damage to the inside of the transmission (gears, etc.) a couple of weeks ago i noticed the transmission starting to shift more and more abruptly. i drove to work and at the end of my shift, my truck would not start. i discovered the reason for it not starting was due to the automatic transmission fuse was blown. i replaced the fuse, started the truck and the fuse blew again. i took it to a mechanic and he discovered the issue with the radiator and transmission. this is a recurring issue with 2005 -2010 pathfinder, frontier and xterra owners. what can be done to hold nissan accountable for a faulty product that they are obviously aware of but will not correct. this is going to cost me $3500 - $4500 to repair

Lights on dash came on while in park and engine running. took it to dealer, and was notified that the radiator coolant had leaked into the transmission. repair will cost $5,900.94 for new transmission and radiator. i had no idea that anything that serious was going on. i felt no issues while driving.

Nhtsa action number 12004. this week my 2007 nissan frontier's transmission failed at roughly 62,000 miles. i had the vehicle towed to my nearest nissan dealer where they informed me that it failed due to a leak in the cooling system causing coolant to leak into the transmission causing the failure. they also informed me that this has been such a problem that nissan "extended the warranty" to help fix the problem. the only issue is that the deductible for the "warranty" is $3,000! that does not seem like much of a warranty to me. i feel like nissan has admitted the problem and is trying to avoid a recall by issuing the extended warranty with a deductible that is most likely covering a majority of the cost of the job if not entirely. since this investigation is still open i thought it only appropriate to contribute.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan frontier. after stopping at a stop sign or red light, the vehicle hesitated to respond when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the instrument panel gauges illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the valve body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired on two separate occasions, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the radiator and transmission fluid mixed together. the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 108,000.

Trans cooler defected causing water to enter transmission and transmission is not longer functioning.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan frontier. while attempting to start the vehicle, it failed to start. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the radiator was leaking into the transmission. the vehicle was then towed to an authorized dealer where it was confirmed that the radiator was the cause of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 102,000. the vin was not available.

The transmission line runs through the radiator in these vehicles. it broke inside radiator and put transmission fluid into cooling system and coolant into transmission, causing failure of both systems. when problem was detected(service engine light came on and transmission slipping) i took to mechanic, we flushed transmission and cooling system. transmission is systematically failing ,

My nissan frontier pick up went completely dead and would not start after i had refueled at a gas station. i checked out the battery connections and ignition and found nothing out of the ordinary. i then called a local dealership service department and had it towed in for diagnosis for repair. the service manager called me the next day and informed me that the transmission valve body was in need of replacement at a cost of $1800.00. after a week or so i called and was told my vehicle was ready. i picked it up and paid the bill. shortly afterward i noticed the vehicle was shifting an little hard but dismissed it as possible characteristic of a new part functioning differently. after about 4 months i noticed an increase in this shifting and so i checked transmission fluid level which was a little low but a healthy color. i added transmission fluid and transmission operated ok for about 6 weeks now the transmission is shifting very hard and slips and some times the vehicle jump forward just slightly when at a stop sign or stop light. i have began investigating this problem online and discovered this is happening a lot with nissans vehicles not just the frontiers, but also pathfinders and exterras. some consumer group are seeking a recall for this problem and i hope they get it because i cannot afford to pay $1800.00 every six months.

Transmission slipping and vibration when driving also hard knock. this happens while driving in the city or high ways
