We have classified the 142 complaints from 2014 Nissan Altima about EXTERIOR LIGHTING into the following categories.
Headlights are very dim. unable to see at night while driving with low-beams on. i paid $250 to replace the headlamps with no luck. after doing some research, it appears this is a well known issue. this seems like a safety issue so i am wondering why there is no recall?
When the lights are turned on to drive at night, the driver's side headlight is not as bright as the passenger side even after getting a new headlight. the light is bright when up close but is barely visible far away. basically, you are driving with one headlight at night making it very hard to see.
Headlights are dangerously dim. reflector no longer projects light. many complaints on message boards.
Low beams you can't hardly see anything at all at night. very dangerous
The headlights are very bad at night i have changed out with new ones 5 times. also the steering have to keep being corrected when driving car wants to go into other lanes i had 2 wheel alignments in still no help
Both low beam, headlamps in my 2014 altima are extremely dim. i first noticed it about two years ago and has become significantly worse over time. i have replaced the bulbs with oem and high end (brighter) bulbs to no avail. the external assembly plastic is not that faded and even tried buffing it. that did not work either. it's dangerous to drive at night. it is extremely difficult to see at night unless the high beams are on.
I was driving on the highway and noticed that i had low visibility and could not see as far as 1 foof ahead and had to use my high beams all the way home. i assumed that it was my bulbs or battery and changed them both out. when i changed them, i noticed no change and almost hit a parked car and feel that it is very dangerous not only for me but others that have the same make and model and year of car and feel that something needs to be done because it is a safety risk.
Main headlights are extremely dim. they have gotten progressively worse over the past two years and now help almost not at all. if i did not have fog lights i would have to drive with the high beams on in order to see at night.
Factory light beams where dangerously low. visibility was close to none, often had to drive with high beams on. i thought that it was the lightbulb which was replaced and this did not fix the issue. i had to replace the entire light compartment in order to fix the issue. looked up online that many other drivers experienced the same issue due to a thin layer in the reflector compartment that once it fades, it causes the light to not reflect properly onto the road. this manufacturer error should be looked at, as this is a major safety hazard for drivers.
The passenger side headlight is too dim. there is no light coming put of the headlight assembly. i thought it was weak bulb and had it replaced but the problem didnot go away. went to nissan dealer who told this is a known problem in altima and no recall hs been ordered. they were not sure of solution but told whole console chnage may solve the issue. right now i need to put high beams on as only driver side headlight gives right amount of light. the passenger light is on but nothing can be seen. the headlight panel is clean and clear but no light comes out.
My low beams headlight are so dim that i cannot drive safety without use of high beams light. other driver are not safe either when i have to use my high beams, just in order for me to see at night when driving. i replaced the bulbs more than one time and there is still no improvement.
I have 2 of these model altima's. both suffer from the same problem the low beam headlights are very dim and it's hard to see at night. very unsafe
Low beam head lights very dim hard to see at night very dangerous in fog hard to see deer animals people try to run with high beams on but then putting other drivers at risk
Low beam headlights are very dim when driving at night. i can't see anything that is more than 100 feet in front of the vehicle. this can cause an incident especially on the highway going faster speeds and non illuminated areas where you need to see further ahead. the high beam lights are perfectly fine, but when using my low beam headlights, it's almost like they are not even turned on.
The headlights on the 2014 altima are dangerously dim. at night they provide effectively no lighting. to see while driving at night, i must use my brights which then makes me a safety hazard to the visibility of other drivers on the road. i have replaced the light bulbs and also upgraded to led bulbs with little to no improvement. this issue is relevant on city streets, highways, or country roads, from dusk until dawn. while driving in the early morning hours it is extremely hard to see pedestrians and extra caution is required as a driver to ensure the safety of people around me as well as myself.
The low beam lights are so low that i have had 2 near accidents. it is unsafe in areas where there is no lighting. i wanted this to be on record in case something happens. my research indicates that this is a well known problem that the nhtsa is ignoring. my husband and my son drive the vehicles at night and i am very afraid for them. the cost to replace the part is over $1000 which is unfair since the problem is with the product. why wait until some has a fatal crash or worse before something is done?
We purchased this used and upon driving it at night, we discovered the headlights are very dim. it's nearly impossible to see without the high beams on. replacing the bulbs did not help at all. we have since done some research and see that it is a very common problem with 2013, 2014, and 2015 nissan altimas. the research says that the reflective covering in the headlight assembly becomes blackened and then, even with working bulbs, does not properly project the light forward. the only way to fix it is to replace the whole headlight assembly at a dealership which is very costly. we are afraid to drive this car at night at all, and should not be responsible for the huge repair cost. if the articles are correct, nissan is aware of the issue, but refusing to issue a recall. please help. see attached article: http://www.nissanproblems.com/altima-projector-headlights/
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. the contact stated that both low beam headlights provided very dim illumination. the contact could only see approximately a foot away from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to nissan of gadsden (1701 rainbow dr, gadsden, al 35901) where it was determined that both headlight assemblies needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000. the vin was unknown. *bf consumer stated low dim headlamps replaced for $940.10 at the dealership. i believe this a manufacturing failure.*jb
Low beam headlights are extremely dim. my understanding is that this is an issue with the light housing and not the bulb. the reflective material in the light housing is breaking down and not reflecting the light any longer. hard to see without using high beams.
Low beam lights are extremely hard to see the road. visibility is low and dangerous. the lights worked fine when i first purchased the vehicle. oncoming cars are flashing lights at me while driving thinking i do not have my lights turned on. this problem could be a serious safety issue if addressed asap.
The low-beam head lights are extremely dim. i had the bulbs replaced and cleaned the fog from the clear cover, but the lights are still dangerously dim. this apparently is because the reflective material in the light assembly has deteriorated.
The headlights on both side becomes extremely dim to see the road at night, which becomes hazardous. went to nissan dealer who told this is a known problem in altima and no recall has been ordered. they were not sure of solution but told the whole assembly would need to be changed. several times got beeped from incoming cars as the headlights were so dim as if headlights were not turned on. i first noticed this issue in july of 2019 and this issue has become more evident once my daughter started to practice driving using this car.
Headlamp assembly of the vehicle is extremely dim. high beam works exceptionally but low beam seems to be burned out. light bulbs have been replaced several times but there is no change is visibility. vehicle has been taken to autonation nissan where they concluded nothing was wrong with the headlamps. headlamps have even been adjusted in the direction that project, but still no change in visibility. headlamp visibility became drastically decreased while vehicle was in motion on the highway
Can not see at night due to very dim headlights, high beams work fine just not the low beams. have replaced bulbs and even the local dealer can not figure it out. i can only see while driving at night about 20 feet in front of me which is dangerous on dark rural and interstate highways.
My headlights on my '14 nissan altima are very dim, to the point that i avoid driving at night or in the rain because i cannot see more than 5-10 feet in front of me. i live off of a dark road with limited lighting, and is always fearful of hitting something/ someone or running off the road so i'm frequently driving with my bright lights on just to make it home safely. this progressing dimming worries me because i drive often for work in occasional high construction and newly developed areas where equipment may be left out in poorly lit areas, like cones or machinery, that are difficult for me to spot from a safe distance. if reflectors are not present in the road or highway, i have difficulties staying within my lane because of the dimming headlights, resulting in placing other drivers and myself in danger. i have taken my car to a nissan dealership, which i was explained that it has nothing to do with the light bulb itself, but a defective or worn projector lens which will cost approximately $1000 to replace.
I have a 2014 nissan altima that has 72,000 miles on it. the low beam headlights are so dim i can barely see a foot in front of me. this is a real safety concern. i have replaced the bulbs with led and it did not fix the problem. traveling on any road i have to put my bright lights on just to see. it's not safe to drive it at night and i shouldn't have to put my safety or the safety of others in jeopardy just because nissan has a flawed system they refuse to acknowledge. it's surely someone's responsibility to make nissan put out a recall on these headlights so we as the car owners don't have to pay $1,000 for something that is nissan's fault. as of december 2018, this particular problem ranks 10th in the carcomplaints.com recent problem trend list. this is a manufacturing issue. nissan needs to address the issues before someone gets hurt. i am begging you to please make nissan accountable for this problem. there are literally hundreds of consumers complains all over the internet and there are over 96 complaints alone on your website that pertain to this specific issue for 2014 nissan altima's from. please make something happen before someone gets killed!!!!!!!
Despite replacing the bulbs and even trying hid light bulbs for the car, it is nearly impossible to drive at night due to the headlights being so dim. you literally have to drive with your bright lights (high beams) on in order to see more than a few feet ahead of you as you drive. it is extremely dangerous and poses risk not only to the driver because they can't see without driving with high beams on, but also to oncoming traffic being subjected to blinding lights in their eyes.
Low beam headlights have deteriorated to the point the car cannot e driven at night. the bulbs were replaced twice with no improvement. adjusting the bulbs also did not improve the illumination. the car is unsafe to drive at night and the car has been parked for the last four weeks. it's obviously an engineering flaw the consumer should not pay for. you can't value engineer safety. i contacted nissan to see if they will do the right thing and replace the headlight assemblies. in closing the turn signal bulbs produce more light than the low beam headlights.
The headlights of the nissan altima 2014 are too dim for safe driving after dark. the low beams, on regular setting, barely shine in front of the vehicle and provide little to no lighting for the surrounding roadways. the peripheral view of the road and/or medians, while driving, is obsolete. while driving the highway at night, i am forced to turn on the high beams in order to see a few feet in front of me. on more than one occasion, i have completely missed a car driving on either side of me, because of this issue. even after replacing both bulbs, the lack of lighting is evident. i do not feel safe driving this vehicle at night, when i do not have the help of the city street lights. i have researched this problem with nissan altimas and it seems to be an issue for 2013-2015 altimas. after speaking with a mechanic, it was confirmed that this issue is rampant among altima owners. replacing the bulbs for the headlights does little to solve the issue, and the only other option is $1,000 worth of work to improve the problem. this is an ongoing issue that should be addressed for all individuals who own this car. inadequate lighting, which is an understatement in this case, is a major safety hazard for the drivers of these vehicles not to mention everyone who shares the road with them.
My 2014 nissan altima headlights are very dim and i have to drive with brights on just to see at night. this is a real safety concern. i have replaced the bulbs twice with led and hid and they have not fixed the problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. the contact stated that while driving at night, the light projected from the headlamps were inadequate. the vehicle was taken to first team nissan of new river valley located at 2130 n franklin street, christiansburg, va 24073, (540) 382-2903, to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the headlamp bulbs needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was also taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was then informed that the headlight assembly needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 88,383. *bf*jb
The headlight low beams were very dim. i replace the entire headlight assembly. about 1/3 of the reflective surface inside the projector was burn off and parts were cracked from the heat of the head lamp. the headlights were so dim at times it was impossible to see the road. this is a very unsafe condition and should not happen in a five year old car. the dealer wanted about $1000.00 to repair as both the right and left headlight assemblies need to be replaced. i was able to purchase the genuine nissan parts for about half that price and i did it myself.
Takada recall. on my 2014 altima can't see with lights on low beam have to drive with them on high beam. replaced bulbs multiple times but doesn't help. this is very dangerous as i can barely see 10 feet in front of me.
Starting in april 2019 on my 2014 nissan altima sv. the low beam headlights are extremely dim. they are easily overpowered by the turn signal, and headlights from other vehicles cast a "shadow" when driving behind this vehicle. this presents a serious safety hazard especial in any wet weather event it is almost like having no lights on at all. if there is a minimum lumens that need to be projected to the road this design is not doing it. the bulbs were replaced with appropriate units, no change in the effectiveness of the lights. when i contacted nissan about this safety defect they provided no solution. and took zero responsibility for the companies design flaw.
Vehicle has terrible visibility at night when in motion. the vehicle has an inferior headlight assembly, causing you to drive nearly blind and to almost rely on the next vehicle in front of you to provide you a path. i initially thought it was the headlight bulbs that were the issue. i had changed them out and it only improved visibility ever so slightly. i was told by the nissan dealership that it is due to the headlight assembly frequently going bad. they told me that it is fairly common for the reflective part of the headlight assembly to go cloudy and go dim. they told me that since this was considered standard wear and tear, therefore not covered by warranty. they recommended me to replace the whole headlight assembly for over a grand. i was even recommended to buy them after market to save, however, this should not even be an issue! this issue presented itself after owning it from new for about 5 years. this is a known issue that nissan is refusing to address this issue. i have never experienced this type of issue with any other vehicle that i have owned. this is a hazard and can certainly cause safety hazards for the driver.
Low dim headlights in front of vehicle. makes it extremely hard to drive vehicle at night without high beams.
Our 2014 nissan altima began experiencing a deterioration of it's headlights over the past few months. at present, unless the high beams are on, the lights do not illuminate the road at all. drivers are forced to either use high beams, which may blind or bother oncoming traffic, or be left with no effective headlights if on low beam.
While driving car lights would dim when turning car shut off while driving. no warning ,no codes , no safety lights to use. couldn't move car because steering locked plus no power. would not start towed car to dealer. they can't find the issues. car is unsafe to drive shutting off and no emergency lights to warn other drivers. because all power goes. i tried to pull over but lights continued to dim. if it had been daylight wouldn't have noticed. i'm
Lights are extremely dim! i can't see at night without using high beams. i have bought new bulbs (led) without a solution. dealership solution is to pay $1000+ to get new headlights. many other altima owners are experiencing the same issue.
Takata recall i purchased this vehicle in october 2018. since the purchase, my low beam headlights have made me run completely off of the road once and almost got hit by another vehicle because of the severely dim; almost non-existent low beams. therefore i have been forced to drive at night using only my high beams because as a single mother of 4, i cannot afford to replace or repair entire assemble. i have replaced the bulbs a couple times and was told by a mechanic at local parts store that the "projector" has obviously gone out and that all altima with that type of lights experience issue. please help me.
The last couple months i noticed the headlight were getting dimmer. i replaced the bulbs with ones that are 60% brighter but it was marginally brighter. i can barely see a few feet in front if it's completely dark. i can see my car's shadow cast from the lights of the car behind me. i cannot tell if the lights are on until i'm right behind a vehicle. road signs are barely luminated and i have to switch to high beams if there are no cars ahead of me.
Headlights (normal driving) are extremely dim. difficult to see at time, using foglights and high beams to make safe.
Driver side low beam is extremely dim. had it looked at. headlight housing. $700. at night i can't see so i have to keep my high beams on.
Driver side headlight is dim. changing the bulb doesn't help. the projector inside the housing goes bad prematurely and the headlight must be replaced as a whole. i had this car brand new and it's well taken care of. it has 82k miles on it. my wife was pulled over because of this. nissan will not help.
Driver side headlight is very dim and very hard to see at night. i replaced the bulb, but after replacing the bulb it still very dim on driver side headlight. its very hard to drive at night with this poor lighting. if i drive with high beams other cars flash me to lower the light because i blind them with the high beams.
Low beams are extremely dim creating a safety hazard. forced to use high beams to see the road. internet is filled with same complaint. may be the design that presents a projection problem. has been ongoing, but getting worse with time.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. the contact stated that the low beam headlights were dim and the high beam headlights had to be used when driving. the vehicle was taken to nissan of las cruces (1801 s main st, las cruces, nm 88005, 575-523-5571). the vehicle was not diagnosed, but the headlights were replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 125,000.
The low beam headlights on our 2014 nissan altima are so dim you can barely see. i changed the bulbs out to a brighter aftermarket led bulb and the difference is minimal at best. the high beams are still very bright but they are not the projection style. in order to be able to see at night when there is oncoming traffic i must keep the fog lights onto light up the road. the illumination is so poor that security lights that are over people's driveways are brighter than the headlights and driving at night in the rain is basically impossible on low beam. i've talked to a nissan mechanic and he said the only true fix will be to replace the entire headlight assembly because their are issues with the materials breaking down inside the projector portion of the headlight assembly. if that's the case nissan has done a poor job of designing their headlight assembly and should replace them at their cost as this is a very real hazard. after speaking to the mechanic i started looking online and have found this isn't an isolated issue, evidently it's all altimas from 2013-2015 that are experiencing this problem.
Over time the low beam headlights are so dim it is unsafe to drive without high beams on at night the road cannot be seen.
The low beam headlights are very dim, projecting only 2-3 feet in front of the vehicle. replacing the bulbs does not help. the reflective coating on the projection lens has worn off causing the light beam to not project well. this creates very poor visibility and is a safety hazard.
