Driving on dry road at speed engine suddenly stopped. pulled over to side and before car fully stopped put into neutral and engine restarted. then placed back in drive and continued 50 miles with no further problem that day. on 12/15 while on interstate the engine stopped again with much more danger as traffic was coming up on our rear. managed to get into breakdown lane and while going 15/20 mph placed the transmission into neutral and engine restarted and proceeded 50 miles to home. brought into nissan dealer on 12/18 and they claimed they checked it out and could find no problems. nissan customer service opened a case #[xxx] but has not returned calls after the nissan dealer diagnostics. the car is a danger to ourselves and others but it is our only vehicle. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

While at a red light, the power on my 2006 nissan altima shut off without warning. after trying to turn over the ignition several times, the vehicle finally started. i drove it to advance auto where they ran a diagnostic and advised that there were two error codes: p0725 & p0335 (engine speed sensor circuit malfunction & crank shaft position sensor circuit malfunction). upon calling my mechanic,he advised that this has been a typical problem for this model and that he believed there was a recall. i called and have been advised by nissan that there was a recall but my vin wasn't part of the recall. however, nissan was unable to provide which vehicles were actually part of the recall! there are many unresolved complaints regarding this issue, and i believe that this is a seriously dangerous hazard for drivers. what if the vehicle stopped on an interstate highway while driving at 65 mph? i would like verifiable information on what vehicles this recall covered, as nissan seems to be deflecting some of their responsibility. *tr

On our return trip home from vacation we stopped for gas turning the engine off. when we tried to restart after filling up it was very difficult and about a mile later the check engine light came on. the light eventually went off after the battery was disconnected. a few days later while driving at 65 mph the car seemed to decelerate then jolt forward. the next day after driving for an hour, then turned off, difficult to start again and check engine light came on again. when checked with a code reader the codes came up with defects to the cam and crank shaft sensors. we checked on line and found this to be a not uncommon problem for our model and there was a vin specific recall. we called the dealer we purchased the car from who then directed us to call nissan usa. they told us even though the problem was similar (the same) as the recall, our car was not part of the recall, sorry. cost of the repair was $628.50!!!! currently checking our options for some sort of recourse to recoup some of the repair cost. *tr

Vehicle shut off in traffic. was able to start back up and went to park. hood of vehicle was extremely hot. multiple times since then i have had issues starting car after having driven it. car cranks fine in the morning. i have had to leave hood open when i get home to allow engine to cool. car will start fine again after an hour or two but sometimes taking up to 5 hours. i can feel when the car is about ready to give out as it doesn't accelerate when gas is pushed until you get around 45mph. i have even felt car pull/jerk forward when in stop and go traffic when i let up brake a little bit. i have to keep a good distance from cars ahead of me to ensure i wont hit anyone if it pulls forward. *tr
The vehicle listed above went in for a oil change three weeks prior to the incident date listed above. two weeks after the oil change the oil indicator began to flash, calling the mechanic instructed for the car to be brought in for inspection. the mechanic noticed that a excessive amount of oil was consumed, the mechanic further notice that there was no leak under or around the vehicle to lose oil, coming to the conclusion that the engine had consumed all of the oil. he proceeded to put more oil in the car. a week later i noticed that the engine began to knock, that the engine had been damaged. i proceeded to look to see if there was any recalls on the vehicle listed above. i found on the website www.safer car.gov had listed the exact thing that happen to the vehicle listed above. the recall: certain vehicles equipped with 2.5l engines may experience excessive engine oil consumption as a result of improper performance of the piston rings. if the oil is not maintained at least at the minimum level, engine damage can occur and in extreme cases result in an engine fire this is the very thin that happen to the vehicle listed above and now the engine has ceased. i contacted nissan main customer service and was told the only open recall on the vehicle listed above have a reprogram electronic control module (ecm).i'm looking for help because i feel that the car listed above should be repaired by nissan for damage to the engine. *tr
Handling of the nissan altima crank shaft sensor recall is completely unacceptable. no notice of the recall was ever sent, which meant we found out the hard way: when the car stalled out in the middle of a major highway, without warning (exactly as described in the recall that wasn't sent) i only found the recall after a local non-nissan mechanic told me about it, and then when i brought it into the dealer, they didn't understand the nature of the recall. please help! *tr

I had coolant service and after that i started experiencing low levels of coolant which led to overheating of car. i kept getting the car check to find out if there were leaks. i checked recall notices and then was told i needed sensors. i called nissan in september and was told out of the 653k cars mine was not affected! i find that hard to believe. i then had sensors replaced (crankshaft and speed) . now i'm being told head gasket blown and engine needs replacement. the recall from nissan says there we engine cooling problems. *tr

My vehicle kept shutting down on me while driving or sitting in traffic/or at a light it would just shut down. went online nissan recall read some of the cases about the crankshaft sensor and realized this was the same thing happening to me. took it to sheridan nissan dupont highway in new castle, delaware. they stated my vehicle was not part of the recall even though i was experiencing the same problems as the recall was issued for, i was told my vin# was not included in the recall, therefore i had to pay the cost of repairs to replace the sensor total out of pocket for me was $375.00.i still have my receipt. if nissan was aware of the problem and i understand they were, why would they not include all vin#, a few times i was almost hit by other cars because my car would shut down, i want to know what resolution or relief i can receive from this matter. *tr
I was driving at approx 25 mph when all of a sudden the engine cutoff with no warning. was able to coast the car to the side of the road, restart, and drove to dealership immediately. dealership diagnosis error code p0335 camshaft and crankshaft sensor failures and needed to be replaced for $570 (plus the $110 diagnosis fee). a recall exists for same make and model, but car vin is excluded. this problem seems to be very common and widespread after doing some online research. the dealership's parts manager also stated this was a very common problem. i find it very disturbing that nissan would knowingly risk passenger safety by not recalling and covering the cost of repair for a well maintained car that is having the same issue as others in the same make and model year. *tr
I was driving on the freeway in texas going 70 miles an hour on cruise control then two unexpected jerks in the engine happened and loss of speed and the service engine soon light came on. *tr
Check engine light came on about 2 days prior to incident. went to a friends house, while slowing down for a speed bump car completely shut off. after leaving house car acceleration was very hesitate, took it to advanced auto to get the codes read on the car and it came back p0345 camshaft position sensor malfunction and p0430 catalytic converter failure and cylinder 3 misfire. so i called nissan because i went online reading about recalls on the 2006 nissan altima engines but they told me that mines was not one of them. changed both camshaft sensors and cylinder 3 coil. and car still acting like it doesn't want to start and stall. took it to my mechanic and the way it looks i might have a head gasket blown. crazy because researching on the internet, i see a lot of altima owners are having the same problem. *tr

This past january, we went out to our vehicle in the morning & it would not start. had it diagnosed, came back as the crank shaft sensor. we had it replaced. now in november we are having issues with it again. while driving a steady speed on the highway it will what feels like jump/slam into gear. check engine light has come on, had it diagnosed comes back as crank shaft sensor. did research online, come to find out there is a recall issued for 2002, 2005-2006 nissan altima crank shaft sensor. contacted nissan and were told by associate that our vehicle was not effected by that recall campaign. i asked her "is it normal to have to replace the crank shaft sensor twice within less than a year ", she did not have an answer and asked "what do you expect from nissan". my response was that," i just feel like this part should not have to be replaced twice in less than a year, and after doing research i find out there is a recall, but not on my car, apparently just a fluke i have the same issue", and she said "my only suggestion is take it to a nissan dealership for proper diagnose & repair in which you will have to pay for." i said "well obviously, thank you for your help." *tr
Morning 6 am while driving to airport all of sudden some thing cause the car to stall randomly while driving. imagine that happening at 65mph on the highway! that freaked me out! , after diagnosed they said the problem actually lies in a faulty sensor. i'm surprised more people haven't filed complaints about this as it seems many people have the same problem and it is a serious safety concern as it can cause the car to stall randomly while driving. *tr
I had a recall on my 2006 nissan altima 2.5l & i took it to the dealer in 2010 because the car engine will shut off when driven. it occurred multiple times & several times it occurred on a highway going at 60 miles per hours. i took it in to the dealer & the changed the part because of the recall. after battling for month to get my money back form the dealer the problem is occurring again. in 2012. i tried to trade it in but they under valued my car because of the recall history at $2,500. i need help & nissan is refusing to pay full trade value on a recall. all i want is the problem fix permanently instead of having this ongoing problems. nissan is not taking my concern seriously & i am getting rob on a problem that is not my fault. *tr

I have been losing oil for a couple of years now and i just kept putting it in about once a month. nobody could find out where it was coming from. i kept asking at oil changes. i just recently had it in to replace the valve cover gasket and tune up ($1200.00) because valve cover was leaking oil into the spark plugs and all over.. well, they fixed it and i noticed it sounded like it was out of oil again. so i took it right back and asked if they had put oil in it and why it was sounding the way it is. i thought it was using oil because it was in need of a tune up. they took it back in and it was already down a quart. he lifted it and found the oil cool had a hole in it. he said it was not the gasket and it was the oil cooler. these cars are apparently known for that and he doesn't know why it hasn't been recalled because it will damage the engine if you run out and don't know it. so now he wants another 5-600.00 to fix it because it's a nissan part. *tr
My service engine light came on and my vehicle's engine lurched forward, as if it was not getting gas. i made it home without incident. i thought i had purchased bad gas. the next morning my car would not start, it took several times for it to final start. this has happened on several occasions. i ran a scan and the scan said i needed to replace the crankshaft sensor which i did and it did no good. the engine is very hard to start and is consuming a lot of gas. this past weekend the engine started to buck when idling in traffic. i was afraid the engine was going to die and catch fire. i found a previous recall that sounds exactly like mine with the crankshaft sensor. i contacted nissan about it and they said my engine was not part of the recall. this angered me that they do not take these things seriously enough to include all 2.5l engines for that year. the recall id # 67703 - engine and engine cooling is the one i'm referring too. *tr
My 2006 nissan altima 2.5 sl appears to be part of a recall (ntb06-028) for excessive oil consumption. the car began exhibiting the symptoms of the recall concerning excessive oil burning at 120k miles in late june 2012. the problem started suddenly, burning one quart every 600 miles and with in two weeks one quart every 300-350 miles. throughout my ownership of the car the vehicle had always been properly maintained at my local nissan dealer. at 138k miles the vehicle began making a noise that sounded like a bag trapped underneath the car. just after arriving home, the car exploded in thick, black smoke that billowed from under the hood and into the vehicle through the vents. recall campaign id number: 06v223000 clearly states that, ?certain passenger vehicles equipped with 2.5l engines may experience excessive oil consumption?. the extreme consequence of this problem is engine damage and fire. according to my records the recall was performed on the car on 4/24/08 at my local dealership however my initial contact at nissan corporate said that the car was not a part of the recall. later, another representative said that the recall was performed on 4/26/06 (this predates the nhtsa a preliminary defect report). after multiple phone calls and conversations i am extremely disappointed that nissan will not accept any responsibility for the faulty recall fix. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan altima. the contact stated while driving 70 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently and would not respond to acceleration attempts. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that they had to replace the crank shaft. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 81,000 and the current mileage 82,000. the vin was not available.
After driving for 30-40 minutes at interstate speed and stopping at exit the engine would rattle. took it to the dealer several times and paid for a couple of the suggested repairs, we decided to research it and take it to a shop for repairs. the timing chains and guides all needed replacing. this should be a recall. *js
Problem began with engine jerking at high speeds. then check engine light came on. codes indicated crank shaft sensor and cam shaft sensors. replaced both. within 6 months problem started all over again with the same codes and this time the car started losing power while driving at low speeds and sometimes doesn't start. also still having the engine jerking at high speeds. vehicle just doesn't seem to have much power at all. even though there has been a recall for these very things, apparently our vin # indicates our car is not part of the recall even though it was manufactured during the dates specified on the recall letter. our 16 year old son drives this vehicle and i am now very scared to let him drive it. we are having to pay for these repairs out of pocket. nissan better be very thankful that nothing tragic has occurred due to this. if it had, a major lawsuit would be in order. *tr
