The car was parked in the streets and wouldn't start. i tried jump starting, changing the keys battery, didn't work. had to tow it to my mechanic the next day and he figured out was this steering lock part, and told me it is a recurring problem with altima 2009. i searched if there was a recall and found out that although it has hundreds, maybe thousands of complaints, no recall was made for this issue.
Very stiff steering at low speed (15-20 miles/h) when effecting a right or left hand turn such as lane change, almost freezing for 1 to 2 seconds. almost got in a collision, when trying to switch lanes, because of lack of responsiveness of steering wheel. happens intermittently , with no warning. dealer could not find the reason for this.
My steering wheel is locked and won't stop locking every so often. lots of nissan 09 altimas have had recalls for that part but mine does not.
While driving on a state route i hit a bump in the road and immediately felt the steering wheel shift from even to the left about 45 degrees with a thumping sound . also the stability light came on. i tried to steer the car properly but encountered a pulling to the left. i pulled off the road into a lot and discovered the rear left wheel and side (driver side} was lower than the right and the wheel was tilted inward. further inspection revealed that the connection to the suspension was compromised. we had the car towed on flatbed to my local mechanic. he is located near the local nissan dealership so we hope to get it resolved with his selp. my research on your site indicated that several (1000's) of 2013 vehicles experienced this problem but not many 2014 models. i believe the problem is not just for the 2013 models and the 2014's age is about at the same time when the 2013's have failed. (6 years old). i am hoping that nissan follows suit with the 2014 models like canada did last year.
The headlights are very bad at night i have changed out with new ones 5 times. also the steering have to keep being corrected when driving car wants to go into other lanes i had 2 wheel alignments in still no help
My vehicle was in motion on a city street. i went to make a turn because of a curve and my steering wheel and brake would not work. my emergency brake system (which is suppose to stop my vehicle before impact, did not deploy. i ran straight into a stone wall and fence. i received a recall letter in the mail about the back sensor, but my sensors were working up until my accident. my vehicle was deemed totalled. it was not raining, i was not speeding, and when the police came out to do an investigation, they could only determine that it was a mechanical problem. why did the sensor not work? why didn't my cars emergency brake system not work? now i'm having to get a new vehicle without even knowing why the safety systems put in place did not deploy. thank god my son was not in the car and no one else was injured.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan altima. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and the anti-theft indicator and key icon illuminated. the vehicle was towed to mitchell nissan (1640 e park ave, enterprise, al 36330, (334) 347-9567) where it was diagnosed that the steering lock malfunctioned. the contact was provided a cost estimate for the repairs. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 98,000.
I just purchase this vehicle through nissan two months ago and it only has 2000 miles on it. since i had the car my car makes like a clicking popping noise when i turn my wheel while hitting bumps. so i looked at reviews and people have complained about it with the 2019 nissan altima and there happening with the 2020 too... i spent a lot of money for this vehicle and feel like this needs to be recall because i can see that only not the only one that has complained about the situation.... it feels like my wheel is going to fall off it's that loud...
2016 nissan altima has delayed acceleration. also, can hear a sizzle noise when driving making a turn, as if wire is shorting but no smell of burning wires; at this time. this is while driving, idling, street driving, and on highway; we are very concerned.
Leaving from work i got into my vehicle and noticed a yellow key indicator light. i proceeded to step on my brake to start my engine and my car did not start. once doing research about the problem i began to see that this was a common occurrence with owners of the 2009 nissan altima. i then learned that my car wouldn't start due a faulty steering column locking the steering wheel. this stopped me from putting my car in the on position or controlling my gear shift. i am thankful that i was in a safe parking lot because this problem could've caused a huge inconvenience or put me in danger. nissan refuses to recall this part and continues to put many nissan owners in this unsafe situation.
