My 17yo daughter was driving her 2007 mazda3 when her power steering light came on and she experienced a complete loss of power steering. she was taken by surprise but was able to maneuver to safety off the road. she restarted the car and had steering for less than a minute. i found the recall for this model and year, with these exact symptoms, but for some reason it is not applicable to this vin. mazda corp acknowledged the recall but said since the nhtsa didn't include this vin there was nothing they could do. judging by the number of similar complaints i think the nhtsa should reconsider expanding the scope.
Jan. 23, 2020. 10:45 am. i was on my street, a narrow residential street, preparing to back in my garage. in order to do that on this narrow street, i touched the lip of the driveway across the street. speed well under 3 mph. when i did so, my car suddenly sharply accelerated and at the same time swerved to the right. the acceleration and swerve drove the car into the townhouses across the street from my house. the driveways are very short, barely a car's length. after crashing, i could feel the car still accelerating. i quickly switched the car into park and the spontaneous acceleration continued. in order to stop in i had to turn the car off. when the towing company turned the car on later it immediately started to spontaneously accelerate and surge forward again. the mazda dealer and insurance inspector explained to me that there is a sensor: when a wheel encounters what it perceives to be an obstacle, it 'tosses' all the power to that wheel and accelerates. these driveways have a small lip at the edge. this sensor reacted to it in a way that caused my ...
My car has 28330 miles. i bought the car two years ago. last week i was park in from of my house. in the morning, i got in the car and my steering wheel doesn't turn. i took it to mazda and they want to charge me $3200 to fix this. they won't tell my what happen other than i need a new steering racks. i barely drive this car, never rough, alway service it. this car is too new to have this problem. mazda will not even try to help me. this car is my lifeline.
Power steering light came on, steering became impossible at first, checked fluid, and lines, all was ok, then steering wheel locked up, could not drive anymore. car was in motion when it all started, on a public road.
Sudden loss of power steering while driving. vehicle has 70,000 miles. there is a recall for this year and model of vehicle for this exact issue, but my vin was not on the list. the recall should be widened to include more vehicles that are having this issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 mazda 3. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle lost power, steering ability, and the radio shut off. also, the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the contact stated that the failure was similar to the failure listed in nhtsa campaign number: 10v374000 (steering). the failure mileage was 210,548.
We purchased a 2010 mazda3 in 2017. right after purchasing this vehicle started having power steering issues. the car would loose power steering interminetly so the repair shops were not able to diagnose the problem. my daughter had moved to washinton state and after living there a couple of months the power steering pump failed. we had the car towed to a repair shop and they confirmed it was the power steering pump. this repair was very expensive with the pump alone being around $1000 totaling $1500 after being installed. now we are a year and a half later and guess what light has came on again....the power steering light. i have contacted the repair shop and mazda which have both told me the warranty is 12 months/12,000 miles. really? for a $1000 pump and risking my life? not only once but twice? once this vehicles power steering is disabled it is very hard to steer. i refuse to drive the car so it sits in my driveway until someone can make mazda reimburse and pay for their junk.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 mazda 3. while driving approximately 70 mph, the power steering warning indicator illuminated and the power steering ability was lost. all the warning indicators flashed on the instrument panel. when the vehicle was restarted, it resumed normal operation; however, the failure recurred at least ten times. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
While driving the car will suddenly jerk as if braking quickly, the check engine light and the at (auto-transmission) light will illuminate on the dashboard. the car will then jump down to 3rd or 4th gear, disallowing it to shift properly. it will remain stuck on the lower gear with the warning lights on until the car is turned off and turned back on. a few times, in conjunction with the aforementioned problem, the car has also lost power steering. this happens on the freeway and has almost caused accidents a few different times. i have taken this to several mechanics and not a single one has been able to diagnose or resolve the issue. the output shaft speed sensor has been replaced, so this is not the issue. there is no predicting when it will happen as it seems to completely random. it has happened on the freeway while going 70 and through neighborhoods when only going 25. it's impossible to predict or give a precursor to what happened immediately prior to the car jumping gears and losing power steering. this is so dangerous.
