We have classified the 124 complaints from 2006 Jeep Liberty about VISIBILITY into the following categories.
Rear passenger side window fell down into door while driving. this occurred when i used the power window switch to lower window slightly. 5 year old nephew in rear seat saturated by rain. unable to pull over right away due since i was driving on interstate 80. this is the 5th time a window regulator is this vehicle, 2006 jeep liberty, has failed in the past 3 years. *tr
The window regulators on the jeep liberty keep going out. causing the vehicle to have the window down till fixed making it easy to be stolen, or damaged by the weather. since purchasing the vehicle in 2006 this has occurred 4 times, i have read that is common with the jeep liberty and some people have replaced them 8 times. my husband has replaced the part purchased from the dealer at $75.00, but now he was told that not only is the regulator to be purchased but a new window also. *tr
2006 jeep liberty...this is the third time the window regulator has broken within less then a month. *tr
Rolled the passenger window down and it just fell down. now all i hear when i try to roll the window up is a grinding noise. found out that it is the window regulator. *tr
I was driving my 2006 jeep liberty down the freeway with windows up and doors locked. i heard a loud "pop" from behind. then, the left rear passenger window began to slide down. this was a windy, rainy day. the distractions created by the "pop", the rain blowing in the open window, and the potential for items inside the vehicle to blow out created a series of safety concerns. i have since discovered that the window regulator problem is rampant with this particular model of vehicle and that others have had similar problems while driving down the road. *tr
I drive a 2006 jeep liberty (4 door). both windows on both backseat passenger doors fell into the doors on more than two occasions in the last 6 months. the glass windows fall into the doors and will not come back up. *tr
I have a 2006 jeep liberty and i have 3 broken window regulators that have been known to repeatedly break on the liberty's with normal use. jeep does not recognize this as a defect and expects their customers to continually repair them. on top of this, jeep recently upgraded the window regulators, so that when you go to replace them, they no longer fit the existing window and you must replace the window as well. this has cause a great amount of economic stress for myself and many other jeep owners who are forced to keep handing over money to jeep for a part that they know is defective. *tr
2006 jeep liberty - faulty window regulator and chrysler/jeep's reluctance to rectify this well-documented problem at their cost. *tr
Recurring window regulators breaking in jeep liberty's. *tr
The windows on my 2006 jeep liberty sport constantly break and thus the window is forced all the way down and i then have to drive with it open or tape a plastic bag to keep the rain out until i can get to the dealership. in the past 3 years since i have owned the car, i have had to bring in my car on 8 separate occasions for the same exact problem. each door window has broken twice. i feel as though the safety of my car in is jeopardy when the window is fully down and do not feel safe not being able to put it up when driving, especially at night. this model's windows and regulators should be recalled. having to pay for the windows and missing work to have them replaced is unacceptable. thank you. *tr
I have had problems with every window on my car not rolling up. i have been to the dealership several times to have them fix them. now i am out of the original warranty, but am on the "platinum" warranty and the dealership told me yesterday that it would be $200.00 to fix the rear window. this is a total ripoff. is there a class action lawsuit i can join to make them fix my car? it's ridiculous to pay $400.00/month and have a piece of crap car that i can not roll my windows up or down. *tr
The window regulators for my 2006 jeep liberty have failed. this is a major complaint with the 2006 jeep liberty and this should be subject to a recall. there have been numerous complaints about this problem. jeep needs to make this right. the window regulators for the drivers side rear window stopped working in 2009, and the window regulator in the drivers side front window stopped working in 2012. *tr
The driver side window came off track and slid down into the door, while my wife was driving on a major highway. *tr
Left rear window fell down while the car was parked. this door is seldom used and the window had not been activated since i purchased it in 2006. chrysler service dept. stated the regulator had to be replaced. because it was "only" 1200 miles out of warranty, chrysler customer service would cover all but $100 of the cost. internet search revealed multiple accounts of this issue. *kb
Three window regulator failures over a 1 year span. defective oem parts. manufacture aware of defective parts and new upgraded parts available but at the expense of vehicle owners. repair expense for each window is $250.00. i have researched this issue and 2002-2006 models all have these problems with all 4 window regulators having to be replaced. this should be at the cost of the manufacturer not the owner. a recall on these window regulators should be issued. i do not understand why it has not already been done!! *tr
Power window regulator failure. window will not go up or down. have seen many, many complaints of the exact same problem. makes driving in rain impossible, and caused an accident when the window would not go up on the interstate. *tr
Driving to work, back passenger window begins to slide down on it's own - completely down by the time i get to work - power control runs but not moving the window up and down. called dealership - $500 to fix. researched on web - bought a repair kit for $90 and spent an hour doing it myself. all i had to replace was a $3 plastic piece. $500? extortion, anyone? this defect (check the web - tons of people have had this happen - only sometimes their windows have just dropped down suddenly) is well known to jeep - they should be held accountable. *tr
I have a 2006 jeep liberty 4x4 the rear window passenger side has stopped working, or should i say it just fell making a loud boom when it came crashing down, i'm just glad i didn't have kids in the back seat when it fell, it could have broke and really hurt some one. the liberty only has 46,000. miles on it the windows has not been used at all since i have had it. i have been doing research on the problem and there are many people with the same problem and it appears that jeep does not offer a warranty or a recall. but a after market is available not even from jeep of better design to fix the problem. http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f16fe1c/121 here is one of the web sites where many people have been posting the same problem. here is the solution from an after market where the design looks better and makes more since. please help in trying to get jeep to offer a recall in this problem before some one gets hurt, and as 500 or more is a lot to have to spend for there mistakes. one more web site http://www.carcomplaints.com/jeep/liberty/2006/windows_windshield/window_regulator_breaks-2.shtml. *tr
I've had my 2006 jeep liberty for only 2 years and have already had window regulators in both the back windows fail 3 times! when you go to control the window, it makes a loud grinding noise and either (i've had both happen) slowly start falling into the door panel or immediately just plummet down with so warning except for the loud noise which gives you no time to react to the situation. luckily, this last time, i was able to catch the window before it's great fall of death into the door and now it is electrical taped up to my door jam. which is inconvenient and unsafe. until i get it fixed, (or decide to drop another meaningless $300+++ dollars to fix a repetitive problem) my vehicle is unsafe and there should not be a worry on my part whether or not rolling down my windows at any time will cause this problem repeatedly. my front passenger window is making a funny sound now so i am reluctant to even use it. this is ridiculous. it's not like us jeep owners are pressing down on the window or even doing anything out of the ordinary to contribute to this defect. i understand things break, but 3 times in 2 years? the manufacturers buy the part for pennies and charge us an arm and a leg to get the part fixed and it continues to break. this is highway robbery and without question there should be a recall issued on this consistent problem. *tr
My 2006 jeep liberty passenger window fell in the door while i was driving. i was driving upstate and had to ride four hours with the window down at night. when i called the dealership about the window they said it was a common problem with the window regulator and cost about $500 to replace. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. the contact stated that both rear windows and the drivers side window fell down while driving 45 mph during a thunderstorm. the failure occurred with two children in the back seat of the vehicle. the contact had to pull over and wait until the storm stopped before the contact could continue driving. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that since the warranty expired the contact would be responsible for the repairs. the contact stated that this was not the first time the windows malfunctioned. he was also familiar with numerous complaints regarding the window failure. the failure mileage was 91,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. the window regulators failed while driving 35 mph when the glass fell into the frame. the front driver window and right rear passenger window regulators were replaced in september of 2009. she is also experiencing failure with the right front passenger, rear left and right windows. the dealer stated that the window regulators are defective and when they are replaced there is no guaranteed that it will not fail again. report 19324618 was filed with the manufacturer and they told her to take the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. they also stated that she might receive a goodwill allowance to help with the repair. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 66,500. the current mileage was 69,700.
This is to report a faulty part on the window regulator. three times mine has failed. twice the left rear window has fallen into the door due to a regulator which was faulty and on the third occasion is was the right rear window that fell. lucky for me, i was stopped when my windows dropped. when the part fails, the glass just falls down into the door. the cost to repair is $750. at the dealer because you must replace the whole regulator, you cannot replace just the fifty cent part. the alternative which most people do is to tape the window glass up which obscures the vision and is a safety hazard. this is a chronic problem that jeep has known about for years. imagine a mother driving with a child in the rear car seat in a heavy rainstorm and passes a tractor trailer at normal speeds. the window fails and falls. you then have heavy rain and debris coming into the rear window. the mother panics as she is concerned about what is happening to her child and veers into the tractor trailer. these vehicles need to be recalled immediately. the faulty plastic slides need to be redesigned and replaced with a metal slide with neoprene guides. i am not the only one with this problem - a simple internet search will yield hundreds of other individuals who have encountered this problem. i have saved the parts from my door if you wish to inspect them.
2006 jeep liberty sport, 44,000 miles. left rear door window all of a sudden slammed down for no reason, will not go up now, appears all repair parts are back ordered. *tr
Rear drivers side window broke, fell into door aug 2008 and was repaired by the dealer, one year to date same problem, dealer now tells me i must pay $75 to have it repaired, regardless of the fact that it was a recall issue! i feel the dealer is wrong in charging this but i am stuck. *tr
I have a 2006 jeep liberty crd which i leased in feb. 2006 through jan. 2009 then decided to purchase this vehicle. the rear window regulators have failed on both sides twice. the first time was in june 2007 both rear passenger door windows fell into the door. this happened again this year in april 2009 for the right rear window and now in august 2009 for the left rear window. i have seen many reviews on this and that this problem keeps occurring. once the warranty is up you pay approximately $400 per window regulator to be fixed. i believe chrysler/jeep should remanufacture this part and replace it for free. *tr
No events leading to failure, rear driver side window suddenly went down while driving on interstate. *tr
I bought a 2006 jeep liberty limited on 8-20-09 in excellent condition with approximately 50,000 miles. before i even drove the car off the dealerships lot, the rear driver's-side window/window regulator failed rendering the window inoperable. dealership did not have part and had to seal in up position so as not to fall, while part is being ordered. upon extensive research on the internet on various highly respected car review/rating sites, i have learned that the 2006 jeep liberty has a known defect in quality of window regulator design and material used which causes windows to drop into doors or cease operating routinely on average of every 2-3 months. yesterday while driving, my rear passenger window dropped while i was driving 65 mph on a major highway in traffic. i was subsequently startled to the point i swerved, and narrowly missed hitting another car which would have caused a multiple car collision on a major interstate. i have since taped my window in the "up" position until i can resolve this issue with dealer. dealership has informed me that they will only cover this first replacement/repair, and that i will be responsible for future window regulator repairs of $500.00 each. this is absolutely unacceptable. a company/dealership should stand 100% behind their product and should certainly address potential safety issues resulting from something as critical as this. the known window regulator failure could cause accidents, bodily injury, theft/vandalism issues, and depreciation and degradation of vehicle interior due to weather damage. i will be filing complaints with state attorney general and car manufacturer/corporate headquarters. a safety recall should immediately be issued, and these window regulators should be redesigned with something other than plastic that has proven to repeatedly fail. while certainly an inconvenience of time, and a financial drain and stress to consumer, this is most assuredly a very serious danger to occupants & other drivers. *tr

The window regulator on the 2006 jeep liberty has a plastic part that continually breaks causing the window to slam down and sometimes shatter with passengers in the rear seat. jeep's solution...replacing the $200+ assembly with the same cheap plastic slide window mount. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. the contact stated that after closing both rear doors, the windows detached and fell into the door panel abnormally. the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice where the dealer confirmed that both side window regulators failed and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 31,000 and the current mileage was 62,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. the contact was driving 45 mph when he attempted to close the rear driver side window and the window fell down into the door panel abnormally. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the rear driver side window regulator for failed and would need replacing. the vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred five times. the failure was experienced on each window. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer after each failure to be repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 44,000.
Window regulators fail. jan of 08 rt rear window fell into door panel. july of 08 the left rear window dropped into door panel. now, just as 3 year warranty is over the driver's side front fell. have gone to dealer and since i am no where close to having warranty miles on vehicle they said they would do a courtesy repair. but, since 3 have failed i assume the 4th will go next and who will have to pay for that failed regulator replacement *tr
Bought a used 2006 jeep liberty with 13k miles. two times the rear passenger windows have failed and fallen into the door while driving along the freeway. chrysler dealer and internet research shows that this issue recurs several times on this model. parts were replaced by dealer but this issue apparently could reoccur. the issue is a defective design in the window regulator that regularly fails. *tr
Back windows keep falling in to the back doors. i have to replace the window regulators every six months. i'm on my second replacement drivers side back window and tree trips to fix it in one year. then in one year the passengers side fell in an i had to replace this widow regulator too. this is becoming costly and seems to be a defect in this model 2006 jeep liberty. please investigate. i'm getting really tired of repairing these window regulators. *tr
2006 jeep liberty all window regulators broke and all regulators and windows had to be replaced. hundreds of owners are on edmonds.com with this problem. windows just unexpectedly drop into door and will not operate. cost approximately $500 per window if out of warranty. *tr
I purchased my 2006 jeep liberty in 2007 within the first year of purchase the rear right window motor went out and was covered under warranty and replaced. while still under the warranty the same window motor when out again and was again replaced. now i no longer have a warranty both rear window motors have gone out. to replace both windows will cost me around $830 dollars. this is a serious problem with these window motors and needs to be addressed. if these motors keep going out like this there should be a recall and we as consumers should not have to foot this bill, this is a known problem with this vehicle. *tr
I have had two window regulators in my 2006 jeep liberty unlimited 4x4 go out in less than 4 months. i know by reading other peoples complaints in forums that chrysler knows that their parts were defective and in order to get this fixed you have to replace the regulator as well as the window. this is something that chrysler should be taking care of. *tr
When the window regulator breaks on a jeep liberty, the cable assembly can break off of the window. the cable then can come out of the door locking assembly if you try to use the window close switch. this will prevent the door from being opened. this has happened to me twice so far in 18 months. if the vehicle were in an accident and ems needed to get a person out of the vehicle, there is no way they could in the above conditions. the number of complaints that are out there on this problem are staggering. please do something before someone gets hurt or killed by jeeps lack of response. *tr
2006 jeep liberty rear driverside window dropped in to the door frame while driving down highway on 6-28-09. at 60mph the noise almost caused me so crash!! told it was window regultor...... it would cost me 500 to replace. i only have 38,xxx miles on my jeep .......after reading online this is has been a large problem for a while.... which just snuck up on me yesturday. please review this window concern thank you myra rooks willard missouri *tr
The window regulators in my jeep have broke. this is the 4th one for me to fix. each time it's a different window. i have no children so my back seat rarely has patrons. it's not like those doors/windows are ever used. *tr
I have had the window regulators on three windows fail 4 times since sept. 2007. i came out of work to find that the window has dropped. *tr
2006 jeep liberty. i have had the window regulator go out in my car currently 5 different times. i am also certain that my driver window is about to go out again as i have to help lead it when i push the up bottom. i try to use it as little as possible. when the regulators when out the first three times my car was still under warranty so i took it in for repair. now that they have broken two more times, within two weeks, i feel that this is a real issue. what concerns me is the safety of my children who are in the back seat when these break and the glass falls into the door, what if it was to break, what if it was storming outside. it concerns me that one of them could be injured. i am also concerned that when i went online to do some research there are many post regarding this same issue, also a petition put forward with 114 signatures asking for a recall on my vehicle, yet chrysler jeep has yet to do one. i think we need help to get this item recalled, have a better product installed in our cars, and provide a safe form of transportation for our families. thank you for your time. *tr
Vehicle: 2006 jeep liberty renegade issue: all 4 doors have needed the window regulators replaced, one them has been replaced twice. another one broke towards the end of the warranty period but the dealer would not replace it under warranty because of the mileage on the vehicle when i arrived at the dealership. the vehicle was purchased new in december of 2006, so it has been through 3 years of continuous use and has received 5 new window regulators. it needs a 6th new regulator but the dealership wants to replace the window and the regulator, without any back-up data that suggests this will end the problem. during the last incident, i heard a loud popping sound coming from the back of the vehicle, while driving about 40 mph, but did not notice any immediate issues. the doors were briefly inspected for any damage and looked fine. after coming out of the movie theatre, about 2 hours later, the window had fallen completely into the door. to date the part has not been replaced due to a lack of confidence in the currently available resolution and due to the exorbitant cost. after inspecting the assembly, it appears that the plastic component, which moves along the railing, is not able to successfully capture and maintain a connection with the cable that enables the window the go up and down. once the two pieces separate there is no way to reconnect them. *tr
No known cause of defect except cheap/faulty parts from manufacturer. window regulator fixed numerous time, resorted to duct tape that does not hold. windows won't stay up, defective window regulator for 2006 jeep liberty. numerous consumer complaints. this is a safety issue, especially for those of us who work nights and have to approach the vehicle with the window not intact. the vehicle is not secure. *tr
I went out sunday morning, to go to church and my rear window of my 2006 jeep liberty had fallen down into the door. the dealer said they had serviced the problem on other jeep liberty's and in 2006 the mechanism had been changed. the cost of the repair would depend on which mechanism was in my vehicle. my son had the same problem with his 2003 jeep liberty renegade. i was looking at some reviews online and rudy also had the same problem with his 2006 jeep liberty. since this is a problem the company knew about and did not let the consumer know about the problem, i feel like i should be compensated for the cost of the repair. the cost was $376.66. i would also like to know if i will have the same problem with the passenger side rear window? if yes , the mechanism should also be replaced at their cost. sincerely, _______ *tr
2009 drivers side back window regulator broke needed replacement 2010 back window passenger side broke needs replacement. *tr
The window regulator on the drivers rear suddenly broke while driving on the highway. i was four days out off warranty, when i called the dealership they said i had to take the whole cost myself. i try to fix it myself if i can. *tr
In 2006 jeep liberty, driver's side rear window dropped in door while driving at slow speed in a parking lot. when attempt was made to roll window up with power window switch strange noise was made and window remained down in door. broken piece of plastic was found at bottom of the door. this is definitely a manufacturers defect and a different replacement part has been made, showing that the original is not acceptable but consumer is expected to absorb the cost. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. while driving at approximately 65 mph, all four windows would gradually slide down. the contact engaged the power buttongs for the windows and although she could hear a noise, the windows would not move back up. the windows were so far down that they could not be pulled up. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the manufacturer stated that they would assist with the repair costs. the current mileage was 25,045. the failure mileage was approximately 21,000.
