Recently reported VISIBILITY problems on 2006 Jeep Liberty

Window regulator. this is the 3rd time and have only had the auto for 16 months with less than 32,000 miles. *tr

1. using the front, power controls, i rolled down the each of the 4 windows of my 2006 jeep liberty to 3/4. 2. my rear, drivers window did not roll back up with the remainder when prompted from the front controls. my passengers and i heard a slight clicking a grinding, then the window fell to 1/2 open. at this point, the window will not move up or down. 3. my garage diagnosed the issue as a failed motor and regulator. says he changed several in the past month. talks about how each of the jeeps are made with poor wiring and regulators, and how he changes several, outside of warranty, at $500 a job. chrysler has yet to recall a known issue that the have had in the past with the same equipment; though they have recalled this equipment for the same issues in the past. this continued use of poor components should not be the consumers burden to bear. please urge a recall on power window regulators and motors for the 2006 jeep liberty. *tr

2006 jeep liberty - three window failures within a four month period (two back windows and driver side front window. paid over $600 to repair the back windows but when the 3rd one failed, we contacted chrysler and we were told to have it repaired and chrysler would pay the dealer for the repairs. we asked about the previous repairs and were told to write to chrysler customer service and include copies of invoices. we are in the process of doing this and don't have any response yet. *tr

Used vehicle, carfax shows issue with window regulator twice before i bought the vehicle. while driving down road with my window 1/2 way down, the window just went crashing into the door. the window glass did not break. jeep does not issue a replacement part for the window regulator so you have to go directly to the dealership to order the part @ $225 or have them replace it for @ $400. *tr

2006 jeep liberty power windows fail without warning dropping down inside doors due to faulty window regulators. i am currently having my 5th one replaced and jeep has known of this issue 1000's have complained and jeep has done nothing but take customers money to repair a known defect. just a simple search of the web will find thousands of customers with the same problem. *tr

The right and left rear power window regulators have failed within three days of each other. *tr

2006 jeep liberty limited the passenger window regulators are constantly breaking and thus the window falls all the way down into the door(s). i have to drive with the broken window open or use tape or plastic bag to keep rain out when the weather is bad until i can get to the dealership. in the past 3 years since i have owned the car, i have had to bring in my car on 6 separate occasions for the same exact problem. all the previous replacements were done under warranty. each door window, except for the driver's window has broken twice and today makes it three time for the rear left side passenger window. i feel the safety of my car in is jeopardy when the window is fully down and do not feel safe not being able to put it up when driving, especially at night. this model's windows and regulators have caused many people the same problem and this is a manufacturing defect according to this sites 175 complaints registered so far for this problem. jeep should be required to replace these regulators for everyone for free for the life of the car unless they can manufacture a part that will not break within 8 months of installation. the dealer i go to states that the car is now out of warranty and that i must pay a $150 "co-pay" to have it fixed as a "goodwill" cost covering of jeep-chrysler but this is unacceptable to pay for their shoddy design and parts that keep breaking.

Window regulators break with normal use. this has created a financial stress and safety issue. my doors will not open. i was informed by a dealership that door opening mechanism gets interfered with when the regulator breaks. they were able to get the windows to stay up, as i cannot afford the replacement. but both rear doors will not open from the inside, and the windows will not function.

Rear window on 2006 jeep liberty dropped down in door while traveling on highway. website defects on 2006 jeep liberty shows many owners have had the same problem & still no recall from chrysler. does it take an accident before something is done? *tr

I have a 2006 jeep liberty, the front drivers window and the rear drivers window have both fallen while driving. i currently have them ty wrapped up. this is a temporary fix but also a serious safety concern as the driver would have a problem with egress in an accident. chrysler will not address this issue, this is obviously a factory defect based on the amount of complaints, this needs some attention!

On 3/20/10 the front passenger side window fell down while car was parked with dog inside in a snow storm in parker, co. my dog jumped out and was recovered by animal control. several items in my jeep were covered in snow/ice including paperwork and official forms for for my work that has since been ruined due to water damage. this is the 5th time i have experienced issues with window regulators in this same vehicle. in august of 2009, the rear dirver's side window had to be replaced. at this time chrysler told me that defective parts were being used in libertys but there is no recall and the replacement option was to replace the entire glass and regulator. in december of 2009, the drivers side window began rolling up crooked and was replaced. the passenger window is yet to be replaced as i am waiting on a response from chrysler to see if they will cover the $500.00 repair cost since this is a recurring problem. *dt

My teen daughter, after saving for years, just bought a 2006 jeep liberty. the window totally dropped. after searching, this seems to be a defective product. not only is this a major safety issue, it is apparent that chrysler corp does not want to take responsibility. it is a sham that consumer relations in the united states is declining. please address and give the next generation a little help!!!!!! replace the window regulator. *tr

There are no events leading up to the failure of the window regulator. suddenly and without warning the window will drop inside the door and it cannot be opened with the window controls. the window regulator must be replaced to correct this problem. *tr

I was driving on 295 in baltimore, md during rush hour when my driver's side rear window started to fall. this is the 6th time i have had a regulator problem, second time for this window. i almost hit the car in front of my because it caught me off guard. i went to the dealership and sure enough its the regulator except this time they aren't just replacing the regulator but the glass too. i really wanted another jeep but since i keep having the same problem that isn't going to happen. jeep needs to issue a recall, everyone in the dealership said this is an ongoing problem. if they know it is a problem; they need to do something about it. they need to do something before someone dies from it. it is extremely distracting. it also reduces your visibility when you have to duct tape your window shut. *tr

I rolled down the rear drivers side window. when trying to get the window up the window fell inside the door. while this caused no immediate danger because we were not moving. this could be extremely dangerous for my children who are usually riding in the rear seat. *tr

For the 4th time in almost as many years i have had the power window regulator fail leaving the window(s) in the stuck down position. these components fail very often across the jeep liberty models. mine is a 2006 but i know of people from 2002 to current that have had this exact issue over and over. *tr

Power windows of jeep liberty 2006 4x4 failed a second time. after driving on highway i realized that rear window on passenger side slid down into door and could not be pushed up again. this had happened the first time in july 2008 and was repaired under warranty. the window regulator was replaced. the failing of the power windows is a safety issue. the car can not safely left alone closed because the window always will slide down without warning-> rain damage, theft. load can get damaged or fall out of the car, kids or pets can get hurt. the dealership states that the whole window assembly needs to be exchanged ($750) although the window is not damaged. this failure of the window regulators is common on 2006 and older models. jeep has to do a recall and provide reliable and safe power windows on liberty 2006 and older models. *tr

My power window regulator for the passenger side rear window went out on me this morning. the window motor is fine, but the linkage that connects to the window is broken. this cannot be fixed by simple small part, the mopar is ripping off the public by requiring the entire assembly. the entire design needs to be overhauled, because it is a simple fix that should not require the entire replacement of the system. *tr

The window regulators fail on recurring basis. the front driver side window regulator failed twice and the front passenger window regulator failed recently. two different dealers recognized this as a common failure item but charges approx $600 per repair because my jeep is out of warranty. the dealers stated the regulator piece failing on recurring basis is made of plastic. *tr

Power window parts failures on 2006 (and other) jeep liberty. windows will "fall" into the door with little no warning. have had two fail in last 8 months. less than 30,000 miles on vehicle. one failed while vehicle is sitting still, not running. have seen over 150 exact complaints on edmunds.com and carcomplaints.com. failure apparently due to plastic parts fatigue, repair costs approximately 400 per occurrence. *tr

2006 jeep liberty-while driving back window makes a popping sound than falls down. about 6 months later the front driver side window makes a popping sound and falls down--the unexpected noise and rush of cold winter air caused me to swerve into a ditch. this a safety issue and an expense!! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. while driving approximately 40 mph the front passenger side window fell down. the contact stated that when the window fell the front passenger side door could not be opened from the inside. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the entire mechanism inside of the door panel needed to be replaced. the door panel replaced by an independent mechanic. one month later, the failure recurred on the rear drivers side window. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who advised the contact replace the entire mechanism inside the rear drivers side door panel. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 45,000.

Jeep liberty, rear window mounting tag caused regulator to fail. window dropped and would no longer work, leaving child safety window lock inoperable. jeep has known about this however has not issued a recall, can cost up to 500.00 to fix. could have caused a accident if dropped while i was driving and became distracted. *tr

Left back window regular broke and window has fallen. unable to roll up window during a sand storm resulting in child breathing in sand until we could seek shelter and interior of vehicle being covered in sand. this is the fourth window regular that i am having to replace in this vehicle. filing a complaint at dealership request. they stated the windows were poorly designed and the late 2006 models the windows are replaced with a redesigned window at the owners expense. *tr

Beginning on february 22, the first of three (3) window regulators failed in this vehicle. the first was the driver side rear passenger window, second was the driver's door window (6 days later) and the third was the right rear passenger window which failed yesterday (3/4/10). the rear windows have seldom been open since purchasing the vehicle new in 2006. two of the windows slid/dropped open completely while the vehicle was underway while the third dropped open upon closing the right rear door. *tr

In the last four years of ownership of a 2006 jeep liberty sport the rear passenger windows have suddenly just fallen down into the door panel a total of five times. it has happened twice while driving and three times between uses of the vehicle. when it happens while driving there is a popping noise and a thump when the window goes down. when driving this causes an immediate distraction to driver and passengers which has not caused an accident yet but is always a concern for future occurrence. also of concern is that my research has shown thousands upon thousands of consumers who experience this same issue. i have included all the sites on this incident that i have so far found. http://www.steigerperformance.com/dif.cgi?sp13002 http://www.carcomplaints.com/jeep/liberty/2006/windows_windshield/window_regulator_breaks.shtml http://vlane.com/discuss-topic/1265/jeep-liberty-window-regulator-issue http://www.ripoffreport.com/search/company/jeep-daimler-chrysler.aspx http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/reliability.aspx?year=2007&make=jeep&model=liberty http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chrysler/ti82j9au88ko7ljq2/p20 http://m.reviewcars.com/2006-jeep-liberty http://www.carcomplaints.com/jeep/liberty/2006/windows_windshield/window_regulator_breaks.shtml http://www.edmunds.com/jeep/liberty/2006/consumerreview.html http://www.city-data.com/forum/automotive/399904-jeep-liberty-2006-back-window-problems.html http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/jeep/liberty/r99742/comments/ http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/jeep_p3.htm http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f28/jeep-liberty-window-problems-solutions-947700/ http://nationaltransportllc.com/blog/jeep-window-regulators/. *tr

Jeep liberty 2006. bought new. to date 6 power windows have failed. 2 of them obviously for a second time after repair by chrysler dealership. i live in south florida were there is no chance of the windows becoming stuck with ice buildup between the weather striping & the glass. this is a design fault that chrysler is aware of. incredible that a large corporation is unable to design a powered window system that's been around for 50 years. during severe weather, rain storms, blowing snow or severe cold, this can become a dangerous situation. this failure is prolific on all jeep liberty's built from i believe 2003 to 2007. my jeep has had failures that at the retail level would cost over $2000.00 approx $300 - $400 per window. its only just over 3 years old. i am now afraid to open & close the windows. i have secured the last failure in the up position using a cable tie. chrysler needs to address this issue. *tr

Just bought the jeep and on the way home the back glass fell down. did not know what it was almost run off the road trying to figure it out. needless to say i took it back the next morning and they knew right away it was a window regulator. had to wait till monday morning to take it back in and was 3 days in getting it back. found out mine was not the only one with faulty windows by talking to the customers in there for the same reason. needless to say i now ride around with duck tape and plastic and am waiting for the next one to go. lots of people have had problems with these regulators and they need to be fixed now before someone wrecks and kills themselves with these things falling down. i traded in my toyota in fear of a sticking gas peddle and now i have to drive in fear of my windows falling down. i am only asking for a simple recall to a simple fix for all of the jeep owners who drive around with duck tape up to the windows. it is giving jeep a bad reputation and have heard people say they will never own another jeep because of this. don't let jeep be in the hot seat with shame on you jeep when a death occurs because of this. *tr

Chrysler continues to ignore a safety problem with the jeep liberty. customer complaints about their power window regulators that basically let the window fall out into the street or inside the car on top of sleeping babies and other passengers, or down in the door, or get stuck up or down. i have a 2006 jeep liberty and have had to fix this problem on my car 3 times once at 10,000 miles, once at 50,000 miles and now at 70,000 miles. the last two times i paid $350. chrysler knows about the problem having sent repair instructions to dealer service departments for a temporary fix that they are using as a fraudulent money making venture, 'a built in repair problem.' chryslers arrogance is unparalleled, we need your help! *tr

2006 jeep liberty, both rear window actuators replaced within months of purchasing new. now both front (driver & passenger) side window actuators failed. windows do not go up or down, can only force them up manually and requires obstruction in window to keep them from falling. safety issue. windows fell down without warning, were not being used, just fell on their own. currently not repaired and not paying dealer inflated price to repair their problem. chrysler/mopar fix this now. difficult keeping windows in up position, have had interior damage due to water coming in failed windows. *tr

I own a jeep liberty 2006 and have continuing issues with window regulator failures causing the windows to drop into the door without any warnings. since purchasing the vehicle all 4 have been replaced and i am now starting my second round of replacements. apparently, chrysler is replacing defective parts with another defective part. chrysler has issued an internal bulletin but has not been cooperative or consistent with resolving customers continued complaints. so far i am dealing with window regulator repairs at least 2 to 3 times per year. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. the contact stated the driver side rear window fell down into the door and it is not operable. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that they needed to replace the window regulator for $486. the failure mileage was 112,000.

I bought my liberty brand new. since i have had it i have had to replace the regulator in all of my windows. the back windows are the worst. the driver's side window has been replaced 5-7 times and the passenger's side has been replaced 4-6 times. there is no warning. i have been driving down the road and all of the sudden the window starts to fall down into the door. the dealer charges to fix it and replaces it with the same faulty part. i have paid over $1500 for a problem that keeps occurring. i live in arizona and thought that it was because of the heat but then one of the service advisors told me that it's the part that is causing the problems. jeep should issue a recall for this part. this is a serious safety issue. i have children in my back seat on a regular basis. debris from the road could fly through the window and hit them. if someone leans on the window when it's taped up it could easily fall down into the door resulting in an injury. thankfully, i have never had anyone injured to date, however, it's only a matter of time. *tr

We have had this 2006 jeep liberty for just over a year now and has been ok until now. the rear passenger window regulator took a $%!@. took apart myself and found a broken plastic piece that connects to the drive cable. thought i could find this small plastic part at the dealer and they said i had to by the whole regulator assembly for $244. even better, while i was in line there was a lady in line for the same reason. that's when i found all kinds of complaints about this same reason on-line. this jeep only has 42,000 miles and should not be having these problems this premature. if chrysler can't replace this part free of charge then this will be the last vehicle we buy from them. chrysler, fix your problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr

I have a 2006 jeep liberty and i have replaced all 4 window regulators/motors. the dealership states that they are a problem with the liberates and are known to repeatedly break with normal use. the first time they broke was only one year and 6,000 miles. the second time was six months later on a road trip. i had to get them repaired out of state. after three years and having them all replaced, the driver side window was still hanging and was repaired again. now at the present time 1/27/2010 and 19,000 miles the driver side window components are broken again and will need to be taked in for another repair. this part should be recalled and fixed. this has caused a great amount of economic stress for myself and many other jeep owners who are forced to keep handing over money to jeep for a part that they know is defective.*cw

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. while driving at speeds of 25 mph in cold temperatures, the contact attempted to close the power windows but heard an unusual snap when doing so. the drivers side window then began dropping at an unusual angle. the dealer made repairs to the window accordingly. within a few days, the rear drivers side window began to exhibit the same failure. there were no further repairs made to the vehicle. the failure mileage was 68,000 and the current was 71,000. updated 5/3/10 *cn the left front window was stuck and it would not roll up or down. the dealer replaced the window regulator. updated 06/28/10*jb

This is the third window to fail in my jeep liberty. at 100 to 500 dollars a shot, i'm getting tired of this. *tr

2006 jeep liberty power windows fall into the door. requires new regulator and window glass installed. all four windows in my vehicle have failed in the past 14 months since purchasing the vehicle. dealer replaced 3 under warranty, but the 4th happened 132 miles outside of warranty. dealer says chrysler will not fix under warranty. this is a very well known problem that has affected practically all 2006 jeep libertys according to the service manager at my dealership. *tr

2006 jeep liberty renegade driver's side window regulator broke. i have been online and noticed thousands of complaints on this, but yet the manufacturer has done no recalls. also, my electrical system is messed up. i have taken to the dealership, but they don't find anything. it dings and different lights flicker. *tr

Replaced 3 windows that would not stay closed (common problem) . went to dealer for an oil change found out that all 5 (or 6) break hoses were about to burst and car was unsafe to drive. no fault of my own but jeep has "no idea" how it happened! kept my car for 4 weeks! now the key gets stuck in the ignition every time i turn off the car! car's a lemon!!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. the contact stated that both of the rear window actuators fractured, causing the windows to drop down into the door panel. the contact mentioned that the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the actuator was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.

The drivers side back window of my 2006 jeep liberty sport fell down in the door while my wife was driving it on the interstate. the car is only 3 years old and the window is rarely used. we do not have children of passengers in the vehicle that use it. i called the local jeep dealer to find out that it would cost $550 to replace the window and mechanism (the window didn't break, but the new window regulator assembly requires it). my wife and i talked to the service manager and they did pick up 50% of the cost. *tr

2006 jeep liberty, owned since new in late 2005 currently 75,000 miles. all windows have broken at least once, some more than once, i have lost count. first three times fixed under warranty. last four or five times fixed at my expense. *tr

On the first incident the rear passenger window fell, so it was replaced. then on 09/10/10 both front window regulators started to go out and one was completely out so i had both regulators replaced. then on 08/29/11 the rear driver window regulator went out and the regulator was replaced. then 01/20/14 the rear passenger window regulator went out again. *tr

Windows falling. *tr

The window regulator on the front driver's side window suddenly broke while driving as i was rolling up the window, causing the window to crack while halfway down. this is the second time this has happened. last time it was on a left, rear window. i brought it to tyson's jeep in virginia and they said it is a known problem but not part of a recall. they replaced the regulator and the glass, costing me approximately $500. the parts were available, but are of the same design, so the problem could reoccur at any time. *tr

All windows falling out of jeep liberty 2006>2007 due to cheap plastic connector. all windows and regulators have to be replaced. jeep has published a bulletin to their dealers about the problem but there is no recall. cost approx $2,000 per vehicle in parts and labor. you can really see the scope of this problem on edmunds.com jeep liberty window problems. i personally know and communicate with 60 people who have had all their windows fall out, some two >>three times.*tr

The left rear wnidow falls down at anytime. my children could fall out the window. *tr

I own a 2006 jeep liberty. problem with the regulators on the windows. they are defective and chrysler jeep needs to correct the problem. windows fall down and then the regulator needs to be replaced. the first two (one happened in march 2009, the other window in may 2009) were covered by warranty. the third came down november 09 and is not covered under warranty. chrysler is indicating i'm going to have to pay a "co-pay" if they're going to cover any cost of the repair. chrysler knows this is a defect, i have researched online and found several instances of the same types of problems occurring. chrysler indicated to me since a "manufacture product recall" has not occurred, they are not responsible for the problem. what a load of xx!!! *tr

This is the 2nd window to fall into the door cavity. passenger front and drivers rear. first replaced under warranty, second i had to pay the deductible on an extended warranty. this last time the temp. was 10 degrees outside. hoping others don't fall at highway speeds. *tr
