Received safety recall ltr f23 - lower ball joints for my 2005 jeep liberty on january 8, 2007. found out that recall actually began september 11, 2006. called 4 different dealers in my area to schedule repairs, 6-8 month wait at hayes chrysler jeep, 6 month wait at buford mall of ga jeep, atlanta jeep dodge stated that they were not receiving parts to fix the vehicles from the company, premier chrysler jeep 6 month wait. ridiculous when the letter states "ball joint separation can result in a loss of steering control and could cause a crash without prior warning". i made contact with daimler chrysler - which stated they could not help getting the vehicle fixed. *jb

I had my vehicle in for an oil change at the dealer who sold me my 2005 jeep liberty and was informed at that time that there was a recall on my vehicle. i was not notified previous to that. that is not my major complaint. my area of concern is that i had to put my name on a list and wait until parts are available. the recall is for ball joint and while it could lead to a very serious accident chrysler seems unconcerned. my dealer told me that chrysler sends out 20,000 letters per week to notify customers of the problem but only produces 1,000 units that will rectify the problem and make the vehicle safe to drive. i feel that chrysler should be doing everything that they can to protect their customers. i feel very unsafe in my own vehicle. *nm

This complaint is in reference to my 2005 jeep liberty (vin#1j4gl48k6 5wxxxxxx ). my wife, with our newborn baby on-board, was driving this vehicle on a dry, asphalt surface when she experienced a period of steering loss, causing her to drive off of the roadway. i investigated this issue and was surprised to find that there had been a recall on lower ball joints for this vehicle. the date of this recall was september 6, 2006. i have never received a notice of this from either the manufacturer (chrysler jeep) or my dealer. this is negligence and could have resulted in a crash. *nm

My 2005 jeep liberty has been pulling to the right since i had the dealership replace the lower ball joints due to the recall. i've complained to the dealership since it was done and they've taken it in and looked at it several times. it has been aligned and the tires have been rotated more than is specified just trying to get it to drive straight down the road again. it has torn up to inner right front fender wells and has worn the tire down on the right front side. i don't believe my vehicle is safe to drive. it's difficult to keep it on the road because if i let go of the steering wheel even for a moment it veers off to the right immediately. *jb

I have a nationwide safety recall on my 2005 jeep liberty from daimler chrysler. when i contacted my dealership as instructed by chrysler i was informed they were only receiving 3 parts a week from chrysler. as of today i am 80th on the waiting list. as you can see it will take almost 27 weeks and/or more to get my jeep fixed. my concern is the recall states the following:"when the driver continues to operate the vehicle with this condition, the contamination can lead to corrosion, accelerated wear and possibly separation from the steering knuckle causing a loss of vehicle steering control increasing the risk of a crash." it appears this is a serious safety condition that could kill the people in the liberty and other vehicles if this unit fails. please let me know if you can assist in this matter. thank you, larry j. paul. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated the tires wore out prematurely. there was a vibration from the front end and the vehicle pulled to the right at high speeds of 85 mph. an independent repair shop determined the lower ball joints had worn out at only 18,000 miles. there was a nhtsa recall, # 06v288000, regarding the suspension: front: control arm: lower ball joint. the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin. updated 12/1/2006 - the lower ball joints were replaced by the dealer but the vibration continued. the tires were replaced 18000 miles due to cupping. the dealer continues to look for the cause of the vibration. *nm

Daimler chrysler - safety recall f23 - concerning lower ball joint. taylor motors 50 north columbus road, athens, oh 45701, phone: (740) 594-3528. my wife tried to make an appointment for this recall the representative was upset and rude, stating there were at least 60 people ahead of you, and i did not have any parts. chrysler send out these recalls and no body told me. no schedule time was given to fix safety recall f23 - lower ball joints. *ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. in 2005, the contact heard a loud noise underneath the vehicle when driving at low speeds. the dealer replaced both front lower passenger and driver side ball joints. two years later, while driving 10 mph, the ball joints failed and felt like a tire had blown. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the ball joints needed to be replaced. the contact stated that this was a major manufacturer defect that could place others in danger. the failure mileage was 21,413 and current mileage was 56,000. 3-27-08 per phone converstaion, lower ball joints failed second event, smch

The lower front ball joints on my 2005 jeep liberty 4x4 with 26000 miles show excessive wear. due to the design of the joint total failure will result in the ball and socket separating from the spindle/wheel assembly. a failure of this nature will result in loss of control of the vehicle. this excessive wear has manifested itself in a loud clunking which has been getting worse for 3000 miles but the dealer could not locate the problem. i found the problem when doing routine maintenance and measured the up and down movement in the joint to be .25 inches. when the dealer went to install the new joints he also found the upper ball joints to be bad. i had a previous liberty(2002) which was recalled for this same problem and assumed jeep had fixed the ball joints. obviously they have not. there have been several incidents reported already (lostkj.com) where people have had a catastrophic failure associated with these joints. jeep must fix this design asap. suspension company moog has already designed a replacement ball joint that is more robust and greasable. jeep must be forced to do something. *nm

My 2005 jeep liberty with 44,000 miles has both lower control arms rust out, the right side rear lower control arm has buckled due to this corrosion and nearly cause an accident. the vehicle has not been abused or modified in any way that would cause this premature corrosion. the driveshaft also has sever rust and perhaps there are more parts that i could not see that are exhibit premature corrosion. the vehicle is garage kept and i don't snow plow or off road this vehicle. *tr

Purchased 2005 jeep liberty 9/29/05. the tire pressure sensor light was on immediately. took vehicle back to dealership and complained that the vehicle pulls badly to the right, especially at 65+ mph. the dealership fixed the tire pressure sensor, but told me the pulling to the right must be due to road conditions. after reading other customer complaints, i doubt it. when driving at highway speeds it is difficult to maintain in lane. if large tractor-trailer trucks pass this will create even more intense struggle to keep vehicle on the road. safety concerns regarding winter snow conditions are a deciding factor on keeping the vehicle. *nm

My wife was working late and left to come home around 7:30 pm. she works about 30-45 minutes away on the other side of the mountain and travels very steep and windy roads. as she was coming home she heard a noise come from the front end and didn't think anything of it. as she was coming up the private dirt road to our house all of a sudden the front drivers side of the jeep collapsed and the tire popped. she could not move at all so she walked the rest of the way home and when she got home i walked down to see what was going on. sure enough what happened was the bolt holding the lower a-arm came off and the whole assembly was sitting on the ground and had made a huge hole in the tire. lucky this did not happen going up the steep and windy roads over the mountain other wise she would have definitely got into an accident. we called the chrysler road side assistance and had the jeep towed to the dealer. the next day we called the dealer they gave us a loaner car. about a week later we picked up the jeep they had replaced both front ball joints and replaced the tire with a brand new one. we only had our 05 renegade for just over a year and about 31000 miles on it. *jb

Safety recall f23 lower ball joints water may enter into the front suspension lower ball joints this can cause the ball joint to corrode and separate. ball joint separation can result in a loss of steering control and could cause a crash w/o prior warning. contacted dealer to get appointment on 3/5/07 told couldn't make an appointment for over a month or so back order on recall dealer only gets 3 a week. *jb
