On september 30,2006 i received a recall notice for the lower ball joints on my 2002 jeep liberty. i have called a couple of different dealerships to try to get this repair and have been told over and over and over that the parts have not been made available for this service. it is now february 1,2007 and i was just told that i am number 29 on a waiting list for parts that are not available. i have been told that this dealership is only receiving 3 kits at a time and not receiving a shipment every week so it will still be a long wait to make my jeep safe for myself and my children to ride in. personally i think this is ridiculous!! i called the daimler chrysler corporation and they have a recording telling me to be patient and work with my local dealerships. *nm

September, 2006 i received a recall notice on my 2002 jeep liberty regarding the lower ball joints. i called the dealership where i had purchased my jeep and was told that they had sold the franchise to another dealership. i then called this dealership and was told that they were only receiving 3 replacement parts at a time and i would have to be placed on a waiting list of approximately 2 weeks. i waited for about a month and called them again to make sure they hadn't lost my information. i was told that i was third on the list. i waited another month and called again. i was told by the serviceman that i was still on the waiting list, but they had jeeps coming in weekly that the wheels had fallen off and they took first preference. it is now another month and i have not heard from them yet. if the situation is a s serious as wheels falling off as often as the serviceman has indicated, then daimler chrysler should do more to improve getting the replacement parts to dealerships. if the dealership is just putting me off because they are too busy to deal with the recalls, then something should be done. the dealership is lewis pontiac buick gmc jeep, 830 e. main st., oak hill, wv, phone 304-465-3111. *nm

There is a recall on the jeep liberty for the ball joints. they said you could loose steering. well i called to get it fixed and the dealer told me that chrysler will only send them 2 parts a week. im 26th on the list to get repaired. if this is a safety hazard then i will not get my car repaired for 2 1/2 months. what am i to drive. the manufacturer should have to provide more parts quicker. *nm

I received a recall notice form daimler chrysler regarding the replacement of the lower ball joints of my 2002 jeep liberty. this is the second recall for the same issue! i scheduled a service appointment with the closest "five star" chrysler dealership to perform the recall. when i arrived at the dealership today, i was told that they could not perform the safety recall because i did not purchase the vehicle from them. they stated "that there was a limited number of ball joints available and that i would have to return to the dealer in which i purchased the vehicle from." that dealership is over an hour from where i currently live, as i have moved since purchasing the car. the dealership that refused to perform the daimler chrysler recall is: hayes dodge chrysler jeep 719 w pike street lawrenceville, ga 30045 i find it absolutely unacceptable that a dealership would refuse to perform a company safety recall, therefore putting myself and my family at risk. *nm

My son was driving a 2002 jeep liberty when the steering wheel jammed on him approaching a curve he slammed the brakes but the vehicle kept skidding until it invaded the other side of the road hit a tree(if not for the tree he would have fallen off the mountain side!!). in no moment did the air bags activate. about 3 or 4 days later i received a safety recall notice f23 - lower ball joints that indicated the ball joints could corrode & separate resulting in a loss of the steering control. i got in contact with the company where they ask for pictures of the accident (which i e-mailed to them) but cannot repair the vehicle (or will forfeit any claims they say)therefore leaving me with no transportation and still having to pay the bank the car loan. i asked the daimler chrysler rep if there was some kind of car assistance program in a couple of occasions and have received no reply plus i have been informed that an appraisal will be done in about 2 weeks from now. is there anyway this process can be sped up or aren't they suppose to lend me a vehicle until this is resolved? *jb

I have a 2002 jeep liberty limited ed. which i had an accident in last year2006. this accident was due to a recall of the ball joint. i didn't recieve the recall letter until 2 weeks after my accident that made me tottaly unaware of any problems. i turned the accident over to my ins. co. to fight while my car sat at the dealership where i bought the vehicle. accident details: at aprox. 45 mph the wheels locked up due to the ball joint rod rubbing a hole on the inside of the wheel housing bringing the car wheels to lock up. ( any faster the car probably would have flipped. it took 3.5 months of my ins. co. arguing with chrysler over the issue before they accepted responsiblity even though it was obvious fault. my concern now is i went to trade in the car this week and the damage over $2500 majorily reduced the value of my vehicle. (which i did express after the accident) i was offered only$5000 with normal trade in would go for $8000-$9000. ( the low trade in value i was told by the sales manager due to the accident) i feel chryslers delay of fault and non-compensation of vehicle value loss is very poor business, especially them being a large financially stable automotive manufacture dishonest with a middle class chrysler driver/worker. i would like for chrysler to fully handle a failure on there part to compensate for all financial details of my accident. i would like to express one more issue! i feel they did not take any hurry to inform drivers of the serious vehicle issue that could have very easily caused a fatality. date is not exact i need to get it from ins co>

In june of 2006 i had an accident that did not result in injury where my 2002 jeep liberty hit a small pothole and the ball joint came out. i had no clue about the recall so my insurance company paid for the damage and i was charged a $500 deductible. after finding out about the recall my insurance company is now trying to get the reimbursement of fees and has had no luck. i in return ask the dealership that i purchased my vehicle at to please fix the other side so that it would not happen again and they refused saying that there was nothing wrong with the other side and i got nowhere. today my husband was backing out of my driveway and the other side went out. i am having my vehicle towed to the dealership and i am afraid that they are going to give me problems because the recall is not in effect until later in this month. *jb

There had been some occasional front end squeaking but not enough to take notice. several weeks ago i was informed by my mother that certain jeeps had been recalled. we went to jeep's website put in the vin as the page requested and were unable to find a record. one saturday morning i called a local jeep dealership to ask if i could bring it in and have them check it. the dealership said that it would not do any good because jeep had not released any information about the recall and that i would have to wait until early september and a letter would be sent advising of the recall. sunday, august 20, 2006 i was taking our daughter to work and heard an awful thud and the jeep lurched to a stop. i had to leave it in the middle of the street and use our other vehicle to take our daughter to work. when i arrived home, my partner told me that she contacted her brother and he said it sounded like it was the ball joint. i tried to move it and the ball joint broke and damaged the tire and the grey material over the tire. i contacted jeep's headquarter as well as a local dealership and it was at that time that we were informed that this vehicle had been recalled and repaired in march of 2004 (it was a ball join issue at that time as well). this was not reflected on our carfax report. *jb

Took my vehicle to the dealership to get oil change, tires rotated, and the 23 point inspection. told them at the time of the noise vehicle was making. ended up having to replace the front two tires and paying to get them balanced and aligned as well. was told that if the noise continues to bring it back. sounds and noise got worse over the next day so took it in the following day. was told that the problem was the ball joints that are on recall and so all they would need to do is replace those and there would be no costs. i was then told that the kits were not working and they had tried two different ones from two different dealerships. i was then told that to make them work they would need to replace the steering knuckles and it would cost me about $800 to get this done. i refused to pay for this when the steering knuckles were not damaged and the ball joints were the manufacturers mistake, so they needed to find some ball joints that worked or fix the problem. i was then told today that they were sent the steering knuckles and the ball joints worked with this replacement and they would give me a discount of $628, of which i can't afford. the manufacturer will not talk to me and the customer service is like talking to an automated answering service. the manager at the dealership is to call me in the morning if he could do anything else for me, which does not look promising at all. my issue is i should not have to pay for a part that was not damaged just so the recalled parts of ball joints can fit on my vehicle that they were originally supposed to fit. *jb

I reported a noise during operating my jeep liberty, ltd. 4 wd over bumps and turns. i purchased the vehicle with 5 miles on 8/13/2002. 3/21/2003 at 11638 miles, the service shop made a warranty claim - lubed the bushings. 4/28/2003 at 12932 miles, the service shop made another warranty claim -sleeve & strap was replaced. 2/9/2004, at 25045 miles, the service shop made yet another warranty claim -replaced the sway bar bushings & links. i also had lower ball joints replaced for a recall. 4/16/2004, service shop repositions the ft shield at ft suspension. the noise never went away. at the service shops advice, i needed to bring it in if the noise became worse. yeah right! two other mechanics suggested steering/suspension related. on 4/09/2006, i had my car inspected by the dealership service once again for the worsen noise. the service team replaced the rear center ball joint at a cost of $276.17 and returned my vehicle. with my warranty running out, the service team has supposedly found more serious part changes, of course. on 6/15/2006, the service team replaced the lower ball joint due to wear and repaired a leak in my tire at the cost of $224.05. i also have noticed vehicle pulling to the right. in addition to having paid for services with my warranty still effective, i have further developed other serious car issues. i have a leak in my rear differential and my brake light & abs lights are on. i had to stop at a service station to fill my tire from 10 psi! although the service department would like me to bring back my car, i do not believe they have the experience for a fourth visit. on my last trip to the dealership, i had requested that if there are any parts replaced to please save the old part. upon my pick up of the vehicle, i did not receive these parts. i have purchased an extended warranty end of july for 1,600.00 just in case. *nm
