We have classified the 87 complaints from 2002 Jeep Liberty about SUSPENSION into the following categories.
The vehicle pulls to the right all the time. returned it to the dealer 4 times, they aligned it but it still pulls to the right. i called customer service and was told to work with my local dealer. he claims there is no problem and it is aligned to specification. he claims the truck just follows the crown in the road. i tested the truck in a flat parking lot by driving between aligned parking spaces in both directions. it still pulled to the right. i don't doubt that it is aligned, i believe there is (are) other problems. i can't get a satisfactory response from the dealer or company.*jb
Consumer state while traveling at any speed vehicle travel to the left dealer has been contacted can't duplicate problem. please provide further information. ts *dt

I lost control of the vehicle two days after purchase in the rain while trying to make a right hand turn. the vehicle went straight through the intersection, up and over the curb and into someones front yard. reported to the dealership. two months later i had my second experience that also happened in the rain. i was trying to come to a stop at a stop sign and could not stop the car. at this time i took the car back to the dealership and they said there was nothing found. the service director at the time referred to it as operator error and thought that i would get used to the vehicle. then seven months later on january 1, 2003, i lost control of the vehicle on the beltway trying to avoid something in the road. it was raining. i was going the speed limit (55 mph) and my car started to spin and ended up going southbound in the northbound lanes and finally crashed into a concrete dividing wall. the air bags did not deploy. i feel very fortunate to be alive and that no one else was hurt. the car was taken to the dealership and it is currently under investigation for possible defects. i feel that i am unable to drive this unsafe vehicle. i have also noticed that the vehicle has a tendency to pull to the right.
Vibration felt while driving when you let off the gas or accelerate. when you go about 50 it gets worse. the vibration is there most of the time now. the vehicle has been into the shop 3 times so far and is going back for a fourth time. at first they told me it was not there and now they are doing things but it is not getting better. it is getting worse. *jb
Upon making a slight lane correction at approx. 60 mph, my daughter's 2002 jeep libety began swerving uncontrollably. she felt no resistance to the steering wheel as she tried to stop the swerving. at no time did she apply the brakes. witnesses said it appeared she had a flat tire. eventually, the vehicle entered the grass median and rolled 2.5 or 3.5 times coming to rest on the roof facing on-coming traffic. the complete rear end(tires and differential) separated and ended up approx. 75 feet from the vehicle. the right front axle or cv joint was broken. neither her passenger or her air bags deployed. the driver's seat belt was broken at the end of the motion of the rolling. both occupants were bruised and cut. we believe the axle failed and caused this potentially fatal accident. this vehicle had approx. 3000 miles on it. at 1800 miles the engine had thrown a rod and the engine was replaced completely. the jeep liberty is structurally unsound and of poor design particularly in the area of the rear suspension. daimler-chysler has lowered the suspension in obvious response to roll over incidents.*jb..*ak
Consumer states while driving at a low speed, swerved to miss object in the road. consumer lost total control of vehicle resulting in a collision. cause unknown. ts
Consumer states that while driving at respective speeds of 30mph, 50mph and 60 mph or above, the vehicle shimmys excessively on the front end. vehicle checked by dlr 3x who has been unable to determine cause of problem. consumer stated shimmying is very distracting while driving and is very concerned that problem can not be diagnosed. nlm
Vehicle only has 19,900 miles on it and had 3 alignments due to the vehicle continually pulling to the right. have brought to the dealership each time to fix but it continues to pull to right. not only does this problem continue to exist but it is ruining my tires!!!! *jb
Everyday, there is a clunk from the front driver's side of the vehicle when backing out of a car port and while turning the wheel to straighten up at a low speed. same noise has also been heard when going over bumps.*jb
Consumer states that the suspension on the vehicle is not designed correctly and the consumer almost fliped the vehicle. contacted dealer and the dealer is not willing to do anything. nlm
The suspension is so low in the front (only measures 5") that when you drive off road the rocks/sand fill up the skid plate and if left there could rub holes in the oil pan/mess up the boots on the suspension and possibly stop the suspension from functioning. if driving on slushy/frozen roads the vehicle would becme a ski. is this an off-road vehicle as advertized or is it strickly an asphalt vehicle.*ak
Have experienced harmonic noise and vibration in the floor board and center console. the vibration and noise are most apparent when decelerating from a higher speed down through 50 to 55 mph. the vibration and noise sound as if you have knobby all terrain tires on the vehicle when in fact you do not. the dealer had the vehicle for two days and made every effort to identify the vibration and noise. they found a slightly out of balance wheel, but the vibration and noise remain. since then, i have driven two other jeep liberty vehicles, both of them having similar vibration and noise. perhaps i have a discriminating ear being an engineer, but that does't explain why passengers also feel the vibration and hear the noise. i guess i am fortunate to have the 7 year/ 100,000 mile warranty on the drive train. *ak
Since date of purchase vehicle pulls to the right while driving. have taken it to the dealer and they checked it, but it still pulls to the right. *ak

Vehicle would pull to the right while driving. the vehicle had been to the dealer on five occasions, and they were unable to correct the problem. *ak the consumer also states that they first noticed the problem at 500 miles, then a significant uneven wearing of the tires. scc *nlm
Within a year and a half, i had three windshield replacements. insurance agent said with that many replacements, could be defect. every time jeep hit bump, would squeak. took two dealerships 5 attempts to fix. paint was peeling on grill, had repainted. jeep constantly pulls to the right. have had alignment and tire rotations, still not fixed. latest, all four aluminum wheels are corroding due to them being manufactured with aluminum and steel. according to the dealership, the rims have been redesigned, but because my mileage is over 36, 000 miles, they are charging to replace them even though a dealer at the same dealership was having the exact same problem and had his replaced at no cost. field district manager refuses to speak to me, who made the decision for me to pay. can someone please guide me in the right direction. i need help. [email protected]. *jb
The vehicle pulls to the right and several attempts have been done; it continues to pull to the right.

Rear end differential/suspension and or brakes/wheels makes grinding noise when front wheels are turned, puting rear wheels in a situation of different tire rotation at low speeds, sounding like rear brakes are dragging. dealer has already replaced rear brakes and turned down drums. noise still exist. dealer stated in writing that they were awaiting a service bulletin to correct defect.*ak
