Problems with 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 42 862 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

On march 4, 2018 my jeep was parked, in park, at the top of a driveway on a slight grade. by morning it had rolled down the driveway into a ravine, rolling twice. the tow truck driver confirmed it was in park. i now have $20,000 worth of damage without a needed safety check before repairs can be done, if that's even possible. no one can explain to me how a vehicle, in park, can roll down a hill? not the tow truck driver, insurance adjuster or body shop. my jeep has lost all of it's value with this mishap. i am fighting with insurance because i feel it is a total loss, they disagree. i feel it is unsafe. i am terrified to have it repaired and returned to me. i am a disabled 67 year old widow. can you explain?

My car is a 2014 jeep grand cherokee limited 3.6l. it has had 9 recalls, completed. i had dashboard issues where there were no displays or lighting. the dealer could not repeat the issue. they did finally and repair. the gas tank had ventilation issues and would not fill beyond a half a tank. i am suffering the same issue. the radio and gps system went totally out. jeep replaced the entire system. though the vehicle is a 2014, i purchased and received it in may 2013. my mileage is about 79,000. at the cost of $3000.00 i had purchased the mopar lifetime maxicare warranty. i was told this covered everything for the vehicle as long as i owned it except for wear/tear items. the radio/gps system was deemed defective and replaced by jeep in march 2018. afterwards, when the car is driven there is a dashboard internal rattle/hum that totally restricts any hearing while driving above 40-50 mph. i took the vehicle back for this problem. the dealership checked the center console speaker and stated they could not reproduce the event. it is so loud it drowns out all noises inside and out such as sirens. i have just received another recall notice. i attempted to make the appt on 3/10 they scheduled me for 4/3/19. i told them that the gas tank again will not take more than 3-4 gals of gas which leaves me with less than a half of tank, and that the rattle is getting worse.they assured me they would examine all the issues, but even though i purchased the lifetime maxicare, i will have to pay for the rattle and probably the gas tank issue (even though they are familiar with the gas tank issue cause being their venting issue of the tank). i have researched the dashboard rattle on-line and found numerous posts from jeep owners of 2013-2016 vehicles with the safety issue. especially if it is so extreme it dulls siren sounds from emergency vehicles.

We took our vehicle in for routine service and were informed that we needed an oil cooler as well as a radiator. the estimated cost to repair is $1300.00. the vehicle is not very old for this type of issue.

I have owned 5 jeep cherokees and this has to be a lemon.i purchases it new. i have had many many recalls, most major. recently i heard water splashing under the passenger seat, which resulted in water coming into the passenger side flooding the carpet. i was told that the box holding the battery was where the water was located. they have been working on it for two days and can not find where the water is entering. now they are preparing to remove the trim for a possible location. they checked with my extended warranty company and they said this was not covered. i am afraid this issue will cause a fire in the vehicle since the water is entering the electrical system. i was told no recall from chrysler addresses this major issue with jeeps, even though is is common. i am afraid to look at my bill if they ever find the leak. we have been having major rain here in georgia this year and it is not used very much, so it was stationary when this happened. i was told this was a very difficult task to find where the water was entering the vehicle, and they had many jeep vehicles with similar issues. i have no idea when i can get my vehicle back. i cannot upload photos as they have the vehicle.

Vehicle was stationary as we exited and walked inside my house. it was in park, e brake was on..as we entered the house, the jeep rolled into the car ahead of mine down the driveway on it's own and crashed. there is significant damage. i have this on video from my security cameras.

The dashboard of the car has developed waves in the leather covering. it is unclear if the glue has loosened, the leather material went bad, the original installation was poor, or something completely different happened. i addressed this with the dealership but they blew me off. they claim it was cosmetic and not covered with my extended warranty. soon the dashboard defect might effect the sensor on the dashboard if it get blocked by the material breaking down more.

Blind spot monitoring goes out every day. the amount of time from starting the vehicle to when it stops working varies, from immediately after starting the car to as much as 30 minutes after. there doesn't appear to by any specific scenario causing it.

The sunroof on my 2014 jeep grande cherokee srt spontaneously exploded as i was driving 70mph on interstate 5 in oregon. traffic was minimal at 3:45 pm. it was 54 degrees outside and the weather was clear. it had rained earlier in the day. the explosion sounded like a gunshot blast in my ear. it was very scary and extremely dangerous. there was absolutely no warning, no cracks, no leaks. i did have the automatic cover open to let light in, but the sunroof itself was closed. the glass exploded up and out, so i am fortunate that i only had a dusting of glass that fell around me. definitely, the most frightening experience i have ever had while driving.

The active head rest for my 2014 jeep grand cherokee had spontaneously deployed while parked in my garage. i had taken it to the dealer for repair and i was told the plastic clips were broken and it couldn't be reset and the head rest needed to be replaced at my expense. apparently this is not a vehicle recall issue but possibly should be looked into as one. i have followed up this type of issue on the internet and found multiple cases with similar or the exact type of issue. this poses a huge safety hazard, if i had been driving, and the headrest deployed in this manner it could have caused a serious accident.

Sun roof exploded. hot hot, not hot, not speeding. warranty would not cover the cost!

My sunroof spontaneously and without cause exploded while driving at 65mph. on the interstate. there was no warning and there were no hazards anywhere around. outside temperature was around 92 degrees and overcast but not raining. cause is unknown.

I have taken my jeep to the dealership 4 times already. i have only owned it for 3 months. about a month of that i haven't driven it. because its been in the shop for so long. it has a problem where it shifts really hard from 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th. it moves the car forward then jerks it back really hard, like you're getting hit from behind. its scary especially when there are small children in the car. i had thought i had bought a reliable car but it seems that 30k has gone to waste and my hoopty was more reliable. the engine also shakes and sometimes it's stuck in third gear! its embarrassing and scary to pull out in flowing traffic. a check engine light has came on before but i have still not "met" the requirements for a new transmission. they replaced the valve body but it only drove smooth for a few days then went back to jerk the entire car again.

The touch screen panel for my radio goes out and does not allow the radio to play while driving and when first started. sometimes my bluetooth doesn't connect at all. three months after my warranty expired the sirius radio stopped working and i was forced to cancel my subscription. the stations came up but nothing would come out of the speakers when i would select the buttons. took it to the dealership and they told me since my warranty had just expired they would not cover the cost and i would have to pay $600 to get a new radio if i really wanted the satellite radio. they said the antenna for the satellite radio had burnt out. my car was barely 3 1/2 years old at that time. sometimes when i connect my phone it doesn't allow me to switch songs unless i change it through my phone. the whole radio, bluetooth, media sections on my touch screen have glitches.

Leather dash coming unglued with the adhesive jeep used to adhere the leather dash to the plastic underneath causing visibility issues along with a safety issues that can block defrost vent along with airbag interference.

When i tried to shut the engine off, the ignition button fell into the dashboard. i was able to reach into the dashboard and press the button switch to start and stop the engine. the dealer claimed it was the owners' fault because "the button was pushed too hard" and a replacement holding ring (not covered under the extended warranty) ended up costing $250 plus tax.

Back panel of dual pane moon roof shatters for no reason

I purchased my used 2014 jeep grand cherokee from jt's chrysler & jeep in lexington, sc on may 27th, 2017. sometime a few weeks later in june, we started having issues with our radio and touch screen panel. it did an automatic update by itself (screen said to keep vehicle running for 15 mins to complete) and now it will not save any presets that we try and save to it. the volume to the radio works fine some days, other days, we cannot get the volume to work on the radio at all...or worse, sometimes it will let us turn the volume up some and then we cannot get it to turn back down (causing issues when i need to hear things outside of the vehicle) until we power the ignition down. it has affected the navigation and speakers to some degree already and we have taken it back to the dealership twice to have it looked at with no resolution. they have told us they tried a "flash update" but it still has not helped. we constantly get an error message stating "vehicle phone needs service". i did some research after our last service appointment and realized there was a recall on the radio's for this model and year jeep for the same issues we are having but, i do not see our vin # listed in the recall. i am looking for someone to shed some light if possible on how we can go about getting this resolved. thank you!

There have been more recalls than i can count, but recently i was driving it and the alternator (which was recalled) when out in the middle of driving and i had immediately pull over and lost control of the car. i've had another recent recall not the shifter and my stereo randomly went black, allowing no control over the vehicle settings or a/c. this car is a lemon!

The air conditioning went out on my 2014 jeep grand cherokee. apparently this is a common problem with these vehicles. the dealer's service writer immediately told me that 85% of the time when the a/c goes out in this vehicle it's the evaporator inside the car behind the dash. upon further examination by the repair technician that's what needed to be replaced. i asked if they replace the evaporator with the same part and he said no, they now use a different sku replacement evaporator. obviously, jeep is aware of this problem and has made changes to fix it. however, in my case jeep won't pay for the replacement saying my vehicle with 45,000 miles is past the warranty period. it's my position that jeep used a defective evaporator in the first place and it's only my bad luck that it did not start leaking freon sooner. apparently the evaporator is not *that* expensive but it is located in a difficult location to get to, behind the dashboard, and that makes it an expensive repair ($1,680). i believe jeep/chrysler should pay for this repair at a minimum, and failing that, a recall should be put into effect.

Passenger side front active headrest deployed on it's own, (no collision, or impact) while at a complete stop at a traffic light, sounded like a gun shot, adult passenger is suffering with whiplash, and terrified to ride in my jeep again.

Leather dash cover coming unglued in multiple spots across the dash, i'm worried it could block sensors. also poor workmanship on newer car.

Chrome metal interior trim is peeling off. this is happening on driver's door handle and cup holder area. as a result, the edges are razor sharp and have cut my hands on two different occasions causing lacerations.

Shifter doesn't work. car wouldn't shift to park and the car engine wouldn't shut off

I bought the vehicle nearly 2 years ago and it has had this problem intermittently. at least once a week, the radio/phone/navigation panel will not start when the car does. so i have no heat or air conditioning, no back up camera, no radio, no handsfree phone. this situation usually lasts about 5 minutes but eventually will start. i have not been to the dealership to see about it so i don't know what it is. but this has the potential to be very dangerous for me. i am a realtor and i've put 70k miles on my car in the past year. i am in it all the time and i need these features to work. i bought this particular vehicle used and i love everything about it, except this. please do a recall on this feature. i'm not the only person that has had these problems.

My sunroof exploded today. i was driving at 50 mph, external temp. is 30 degrees and sunny. there were no cars around me to throw a rock. there was nothing overhead. i was driving on route 137 in maine, a well paved road in a fairly rural area. i had the shade closed, as i always do. i heard and explosive noise directly overhead. there was immediate loud wind noise above my head. i pulled over and opened the sunshade. the sunroof was shattered and the entire central portion was gone. all of the shattered glass around the edges was convex, bowed outward away from the car.

While driving on a city street and approaching a busy intersection, my windshield wipers started in motion and the lights on the dashboard lit up for a brief second, to include the battery light. the stop light was red and i fully stopped. when the light turned green, i stepped on the gas to accelerate to make a left turn into the intersection when my vehicle moved mere inches before it completely shutdown. this all happened within a minute with no warning. two trucks attempted to jump my jeep, but all that happened was the jumper cables started to smoke and heat to the point they were untouchable. i had to have my jeep towed to a near by chrysler dealership where the alternator and battery failed and had to be replaced. there is a similar recall for 2014 jeep grand cherokees dealing with the alternator, but i was told that my jeep was manufactured with a 180amp and not the 160amp listed in the recall.

Vehicle was in park and when i started my vehicle up i looked to my right and noticed the active headrest on just the front passenger side failed and had ejected on it's own without being in a collision. i brought my vehicle to the helfman dodge chrysler jeep ram dealership 7720 katy fwy, houston, tx 77024. i am being charged for the replacement of an entirely new headrest when mine failed by design.

Front seat, middle console cup holders, trim, has become dangerous! the high polished silver colored accent trim has pulled away from the circular area of the cup holders. the material is a plastic metal that is very sharp and has cut up my fingers over 10 times in the last year. because the design rolls in and down like a backwards c the plastic metal has frayed from use and doesn't lay flat or sealed to the cup holders. each time the cup holders are use the cups get caught on the cup holders and also cut the cups. i hope a coffee cup doesn't break on me or a passenger in this situation and burn them. my options are to peel the bad trim away and have it look worse or pay a large amount of money to replace the whole middle console unit, not practical for the consumer. this is about the safety of the user and not the visual appearance.

On several occasions since i bought my jeep new a little over 3 years ago, i thought my jeep was in park and went to get out and it was actually in reverse. thankfully, i have always had only 1 foot out and now check to make sure it is in park even though i push the electronic shifter all the way forward. i received a recall notice, but the local dealer claims to not have the parts to fix.

Leather dash coming unglued, bubbling all over.

My jeep was serviced twice for the recent shifter problem that chrysler identifies as driver inattention or confusion. the software patch that is intended to "auto park" the vehicle, has failed on two occasions. the engine is started, i apply the brake and place the shifter into reverse or a forward gear. i the desired gear is illuminated and i ease of the brake, however, when apply gas the engine simply races as if the transmission is still in park or neutral. jeeps attempt to fix a problem has now led to another problem. this vehicle is unreliable and a death machine. i have no confidence in it's operation and i can't in good conscience sell this vehicle to anyone. jeep corporate should be in jail.

Vehicle was in a very slow speed left turn with traffic from a major road to secondary road . the vehicle steering failed and could not be turn which resulted in a one vehicle crash into a concrete post.

Srs-head rest system. car was in park stationary and in drive way at my home and front passenger got into the front passenger seat and srs on head rest went off for no apparent reason. it should only go off when there is a rear end collision. this could not be reset and there is only 39,000 miles on car. had to replace at my own expense. this could have caused a serious accident.

2014 jeep grand cherokee was in park, i shifted it into drive, the vehicle moved about 1 foot, and jerked itself back into park. i tried every other gear and the same thing happened. after about 15 minutes i tried it again and it worked fine. when the tow company came to pick it up, it started jerking itself back into the park position again, from every gear according to the tow company, a flat bed trailer was used to take it to the dealership because a regular tow truck could not move it. dealership has indicated to me that they have found nothing wrong with it (july 6, 2016), for me to go pick it up. i did notify the manufacturer, and i await a response. all of this occurred after the s27 update was performed on the vehicle. very dangerous situation even more so than the problems that they tried to fix. mileage 32333. the vehicle was stationary in a flat leveled parking lot.

I have a recurring problem with my 2017 jeep grand cherokee that has been going on for a period of 17 months. my problem started in may, 2016 when my navigation system failed by giving me the wrong information by instructing me to turn into a one way (wrong way) traffic lane. this has since happened many times since then by directing me incorrectly. the complete navigation system, clock & compass, periodically don't work. on occasion i receive the following message on my vehicle's computer screen "vehicle phone requires service please contact your dealer." after numerous appointments with the dealer & telling them that the problem is not with my phone they finally said they could not repair the problem and gave me an 800 number to call the manufacturer customer service. after numerous discussions with various customer service people over a period of two months, on 9/28/2017 customer service person patricia said there is nothing they can do to repair the vehicle however that a "jeep service bulletin #08-028-17 with updates to software level 17.11.07 will occur in a phased roll-out and maybe the problem will go away." they told me i would receive download instructions but could not tell me when these instructions would be sent out. the system will work periodically but fails more often than not. yesterday i was again using the navigation in an area that i unfamiliar with and the system again tried to route me into oncoming traffic.

When i was trying to make a quick 3 point turn,i had difficulty getting the vehicle into reverse because of the lack of "feeling" in the electronic shifter control. first, it went into park, then neutral. finally i got it into drive but the delay caused a safety hazard. a car coming the opposite direction had to maneuver around me.

Insd put car in park, when exited vehicle, vehicle rolled down a hill and hit a tree.

Occupant restraint control module recall. i have attempted to schedule the recall repair since 5 15 15. i have made several calls and visits to dealership to schedule repair i am told each time, no part, no big deal, chrysler is unwilling to send the part. called 2 26 16 only to be told i have to wait yet again. help

On multiple occasions the vehicle has been placed in park and has started rolling in both reverse & forward motions after the my wife or i have stepped out of the vehicle. this has happened both with the engine running and when it was turned off.

I have real problems with the "electric" gear shift. i cannot tell what position it is in. latest episode occurred when i was valeting the car. i left the car running and put the car in park (at least i thought i did). when i opened the door to let the car valet take the car, it started to roll backward with me half in, half out of the car. the car came very close to knocking me down and rolling over me. if the attendant had not been able to physically stop the car it would have run me down. this is not the first time this has happened. you just cannot feel the "dedents" indicating what gear it is in. the scariest car i have ever owned.

I parked my 2014 jeep grand cherokee on a hill in the driveway. i put the car in park set the parking brake and turned it off. i open the door and exited my car and the car begin rolling backwards down the hill as if it was a neutral.

We have had 4 incidents of unintended braking (pe15-021) from the collision control system. extreme autonomous braking when nothing was in the way. additionally, we had one case of unintended acceleration in low speed (less than 10 mph) stop & go commuter traffic resulting in a rear end crash with damage to our jeep and the vehicle in front of us and the next vehicle in front of them (3 vehicles total). jeep accelerated hard on its own without pressing the gas pedal.

I have huge problems with the key-less ignition and the engine not turning off in two circumstances. first, the engine is very quite and the radio does not turn off when the car is turned off. if you miss the shut off button the car continues to run even when you leave with the key. there is no warning when you leave the still running car with the key. you come back hours later and the car is still running. second, the electronic shifter is so inaccurate that it is very easy to try to put it in park and leave it just short and in reverse. the jeep won't turn off while it is still in gear, but it is so quiet that it is easy to miss that it is still running (particularly if you did not immediately get out of the car). when you take your foot off the brake the car starts to roll. very dangerous. jeep's response is to put the parking brake on, but who does that anymore if you are not on a hill.

Less than 32,000 miles on 2014 grand cherokee, getting off freeway on sharp turn exit, there was a thunk and our bodies lurched forward as vehicle dropped into 1st gear. pulled over, check engine light on but not blinking so ignored as dealership service representative that not critical if not blinking. we were able to move, but transmission slipped until reached 20 mph and ran ok until we were home about 1/2 mile away. we then tested the shifting and vehicle would not go into reverse. next morning, the car would not move at all in any gear. had it towed to dealership. the service rep called the next morning indicating that the transmission failed and they needed to order a new one to replace it. awaiting new transmission.

Engine continued to run for several hours after key fob was removed from vehicle. there was no warning indicator or automatic engine shut off. engine was very hot.

Gear shift does not easily go into park car was running i put it in park ran into the house a few minutes later the car was going in reverse crossed the road and went down a 200 yard slope into the ditch i have had this gear problem since i purchased the jeep

We are leasing a 2014 jeep cherokee componen:t gear shift- vehicle rolled back after thinking it was in park but driver was able to jump back in and stop it on several occasions, but on one occasion, vehicle rolled backward in a parking garage into a cement pillar after exiting the car thinking it was in the park position causing severe damage to the rear and driver side. new gear shift design very tricky and could be potentially dangerous

Car completely shut off while driving on a busy street without warning. dearlership says nothing is wrong with it and wait for the car to shut off on a regular basis. then maybe they will be able to pin point the issue. this is the second issue with the car on 7/31/2015 car shut off while driving on a busy street without warning. turns out the fuel pump went bad.

The collision avoidance system activates and slams on the brakes without cause while traveling forward which is startling and dangerous because i have been nearly rear ended by another driver for braking without cause. when parking the gear selector feels like it is in park it is actually in reverse or neutral. brakes squeak and were wearing groves into rotors when vehicle was brand new. also the front bumper has never fit correctly as well as the fender moldings peeling off. very sad for a $55,000 vehicle.

I have been experiencing issues where my instrument display cluster lights up with numerous vehicle warning indicators. this has been happening intermittently since i purchased the vehicle in september, 2013. there has been a recall for this problem. the first time this happened the dealership kept my vehicle renting a vehicle for my use until it was supposedly "repaired." the issue has continued to occur intermittently since that recall for a total of about 5 times. this most recent incident the following occurred -- abs warning light, airbag warning light, malfunction indicator light, electronic stability control warnings lights were all displayed. additionally, the speedometer was inoperable, the brake engaged light was on (even though the emergency brake was not engaged) and the backup warning system did not operate. i have had instances where the airbag warning system indicated that it was not operational. i am told that if the warning lights do not stay on the system "erases" the fault codes. the system seems to reset itself but i still don't think this should be happening. this week i was told that the battery charge was low and that the issue had been repaired. my question is if this issue is repaired why does the problem continue to occur. i am hopeful after this time it will not happen again but am not so sure. i paid $40k for this vehicle and expect the systems to function properly. it is now almost out of warranty and quite honestly feel i am being given a variety of answers until such time it is out of warranty and am concerned that if/when it is finally repaired that it will cost a significant amount of money. i have never filed a complaint like this but i also don't believe i'm the only person this is happening to. what if this system problem occurs while i'm driving and results in an accident?
