My car had an oil leak and the mechanic had to replace the oil cooler. he said the part is a dangerous design with plastic, metal and aluminum parts. the plastic melts in the seals causing the leak. this could be a fire hazard bc of the coolant and oil mixing together as they cross over boundaries they should not. also it could cause the engine to be completely ruined. the mechanic i used said he has replaced a lot of these all in chrysler's and jeeps so it is clearly a hazardous design flaw. this has been an ongoing problem and i filed a case with chrysler #71764143. the mechanic telling me my engine could be ruined made my decision to get the repair more urgent.
Vehicle had an aem recall performed and now the interior of vehicle as well the exterior reaks of diesel fumes all there is a terrible hesitation and at times almost a delay in the throttle we have made numerous complaints and trips to the jeep dealer they say they cannot find issues the reason behind it. we just spent 5 hours at the dealer for a clogged dpf filter only to leave and have my wife vomit from the fumes we pulled over several times to get fresh air.. i spoke to lynn at fca customer care badge number ln187 extension 3020187 she told me if i was concerned i should return vehicle to dealer which i have done numerous times since the end of may.the vehicle is not safe due to fumes let alone the throttle working when it chooses to
Vehicle overheated - manifold / egr had to be replaced due to severe soot build up. engine compartment was smoking and coolant empty when vehicle overheated. vehicle is a fire risk.*dt*jb
About two months ago my suspension started to act up. now my suspension is stuck completely at the lowest point. the engine has a ticking sound and now it doesnt run right.
My check engine light came on and upon running a diagnostic there is a problem with the left cylinder head valve and it needs to be replaced. i tried to order the part from jeep and get the car repaired at my local mechanic. my warranty had ended 5 months prior and my car had 105,000 miles so i had to pay to get this fixed. jeep could not provide the part because they were out of stock. they had been out of stock for four months and put me on a waiting list of 6-8 months. they also advised not to drive the car due to the severity of the issue. they also informed me that this is a nationwide epidemic and the specific part needed is on back order for over 4,000 people. they sympathized with the strain this puts on their customers but we have no option but to wait for the part to be available. this issue has not yet been resolved as a recall. i am at a loss because i cannot use the car, yet i need to have transportation to work, at the least. i have yet to come to a reasonable solution of what to do for the next 6-8 months without an operable car. financially this is a huge setback and jeep is not taking responsibility for this issue. aside from the extreme inconvenience, this is also a very expensive repair that should not land in the hands of over 4,000 jeep customers, but the company who is responsible for providing and maintaining safe vehicles. this is not only an issue for 2014 jeep but it has been documented starting with 2011-2015 jeep grand cherokees.
Camshaft and lifter problem. camshaft had to be replaced due to lifter not operating properly and wearing out camshaft.
Oil filter housing cracked and deeded replaced. was told this was very common with jeeps and cost $1400 to replace.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while attempting to make a left turn, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the contact was immediately able to restart the vehicle and continue driving. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled again. the vehicle was restarted and the contact continued driving. while at a fuel station and attempting to start the vehicle, the contact had to press the start button several times before the vehicle would start. the failure occurred multiple times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact stated that the vehicle was included in an unknown recall regarding the alternator, battery, and pcm approximately four months ago. stew hansen dodge ram chrysler jeep (located at 12103 hickman rd, urbandale, ia 50323, 515-331-2900) performed the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
Vehicle overheated and spewed all coolant. several dealer visits, replaced egr, manifold, cylinder heads, hoses, thermostat etc. one occasion fuel was dripping into the engine compartment after repair and the engine compartment was smoking. another occasion the manifold was smoking. it's only a matter of time before one catches fire. these are suvs used to haul families.
The engine started misfiring. code reader said #6 cylinder. plug, coil, and injector didn't fix it. dealership diagnoses left cylinder head bad. cylinder 6 losing 65% compression. at 75k miles i was 2 weeks from out of warranty. dealer said it is a known problem but they wait until they go bad to change them. i expect this cost customers a lot of money for a big expensive known problem that they won't take responsibility for.
Oil was constantly running low, and on 2 occasions was found to be empty, even after oil changes. no signs of leaks or oil burning, so i assumed the dealership screwed up. over the summer, the condensation from the a/c was leaving stains on my driveway, but still no signs of oil. a google search of a/c condensation water stains for my jeep revealed that the engine oil cooler might be the cause. sure enough, an inspection revealed oil sitting around the oil cooler. i took it to pellegrino jeep and they confirmed the oil cooler had cracked and needed to be replaced. the repair cost me a little over $1000! unless jeep redesigned this part, i will eventually experience another out of warranty failure. when jeep was contacted, they did not provide any help since my vehicle had 73k miles on it and was out of warranty. my contention is that there really is no way to determine how many miles were on the vehicle when the part failed. its a known fact that jeep changed the design of the part from metal to plastic. the consumer should not be responsible for jeeps engineering errors. i'm fearful that my engine may have suffered irreparable damage, causing premature failure.
The oil filter housing on this car is cracked, leading to a oil leak and pooling problem which is a significant fire hazard issue to the passengers. this happens while driving and when the car is stationary causing a pool of oil to collect in car and drip on floor. this is a known problem - nhtsa has recorded a number of complaints from users (e.g. id 11244788,11230350, 11193883 etc.). the company has also issued a service bulletin: sb-10058301-5939. *tt 'parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'*jb
After fca issued recall and required update done, dangerous driving conditions exist. the update is referred to as the v08 aem update. after update done suv became dangerously sluggish. when trying to accelerate to merge into traffic, power is dangerously low. this putting the drivers and passengers in danger when expecting suv to perform as pre update. suv also began to lurch forward when coming to a stop, which if not paying attention could cause an accident to occur. in addition suv now shifts very hard, which doesn't purpose any safety issue, but does make the suv uncomfortable to drive.
My vehicle caught fire after sitting for 2.5 hours and was completely damaged. the front end was completely damaged as the pictures will show. interior was damaged
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. malfunction indicator warning had displayed vehicle would not properly accelerate faulty engine cylinder head the contact stated while driving at various speeds the vehicle would hesitate to accelerate and while idling the front end of the vehicle would vibrate. during the failure the 'malfunction indicator' sensor light had displayed. the vehicle was taken an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine cylinder head was faulty and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. the local dealer was not notified. the failure mileage was 88,000.
After receiving the v08 diesel emissions recall update, the truck is very sluggish to accelerate from a stop. noticeable delay from pressing accelerator to forward motion. almost hit numerous times as truck hesitated while pulling into traffic. before the emissions recall this was not an issue. very dangerous situation. also some hesitation in shifting through the lower gears.
The alternator in my vehicle failed and caused the car to stall while driving on the highway. there is a recall, p60 alternator but it is only related to the 3.6l engine and i have the 5.8l v8. there is also an advanced communication t3607112017 which seems to describe my vehicle and includes the v8 jeep but it is also not listed as a recall on my vehicle. how do i find out why my vehicle was excluded from the recall as my vehicle was affected.
Had the ecodiesel aem recall done, the drivability of the vehicle with the turbo lag can be dangerous at times, the lag can be several seconds, and when merging with traffic entering traffic you have no idea when it comes and goes.
At 115,000 i noticed a puddle of oil under the car. took it to a repair shop the diagnosed as a bad transmission pan and performed the repair at a cost of $390.35. i picked up the vehicle from the repair shop and took it home. the following night i noticed a puddle of oil under the vehicle again and worse then when i took it in the first time. after further diagnostics it was determined the oil filter adapter housing was cracked and need replacement. i had the repair done at a cost of $1027.03. after doing some research i noticed this seems to be an issue with the 3.6 v6.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while the vehicle was at a complete stop, it idled low and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to classic motors jeep chrysler (120 south main street, ritchfield, utah, (435)-896-444) where it was diagnosed that the engine cylinder head needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 59742917. the failure mileage was 80,064.
Chrysler (jeep) has a long running problem with exhaust manifold bolts breaking prematurely as in my case (75,000 miles). it is a common problem and places the occupants of the vehicle in danger due to exhaust fumes entering the passenger compartment, in addition to extremely hot exhaust gases creating a fire hazard in the engine compartment. chrysler will not warrant "fasteners" or fix the issue in it's manufacturing plants and leaves the owner with a very large bill to fix it. can you please research and make chrysler responsible for continuing to allow a known and dangerous situation to continue? i have called chrysler and filed a complaint and request for assistance
Vehicle has lost power and fuel mileage after completing the fca approved emissions modification. there is a hazardous dead spot/lag in acceleration from a stop. all driving characteristics have changed drastically even after fca claims nothing would be affected by the aem.
Engine shuddered and stopped while in park. tried to restart, but would not start (electrical was fine). had it towed and fuel injector replaced. drove for approximately 75 miles and acceleration ceased on busy highway at 70mph. when able to pull over and stop, would not go into park (even though shifter indicated that it was in park). dashboard indicated that my speed was too high to shift (i do not recall the full message) and it began to roll backwards into traffic. i turned it off and it stopped rolling. tow truck said he had difficulty putting it in neutral. prior to failure to accelerate, there was a heavy rumbling sound when gas pedal pushed; then it sounded like small parts were falling off of the engine; then grinding sound but no acceleration. i saw a brief message about 4wheel drive, but was trying to get to safety, so i do not know what it said. i had a passenger and toddler in the car. frightening!
Oil cooler leaking, chrysler corp change part that used to be metal to plastic in 2014 and these oil coolers leak/ seals wear out at low miles. jeep just started to leak oil and from a part that should not fail at 80k miles
After the emissions recall, my jeep has dangerous lag on acceleration. you press the gas pedal and there is a 3-5 second delay before anything happens. very dangerous when pulling out of my driveway etc. additionally the fuel economy has decreased substantially. any help with this is greatly appreciated. thanks, mike
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to breeden dodge chrysler jeep ram (located at 5900 us-71 bus, fort smith, ar 72908, (479) 646-4731) where it was diagnosed that two of the six injectors were inoperable and needed to be replaced. the mechanic was unable to explain why the injectors failed. the wiring harness to the injectors were disconnected and reconnected, but the failure recurred twice. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer three times for an unknown emissions recall. the contact stated that the vehicle had to warm up for ten minutes before pulling out and accelerating into traffic. the contact stated that the failure recurred with the throttle response being delayed when attempting to accelerate. auburn chrysler dodge jeep ram (1901 grass valley hwy, auburn, ca 95603, 888-268-8026) stated that the vehicle performed like other vehicles that needed the emissions reflashed; however, there was no remedy. the manufacturer was notified. the contact believed that the failure occurred after the emissions recall repair was performed. the failure mileage was 65,182. the vin was invalid.
I recently had the ecodiesel update installed on our 2014 ecodiesel jeep grand cherokee. the statement from the manufacturer is the driving conditions, fuel mileage, and performance will not be impacted due to the ecm update. these are false statements as the updated has greatly impacted our vehicle! fuel mileage as decreased greatly, there is a huge lag in the turbo, and the transmission shifts gears all over the place. the update is unsafe! my wife drives this car with our twin 15 month old boys. the lack in response of the turbo makes it unsafe while driving on the freeway. there is no get up and go, it's difficult to merge into traffic, and nearly impossible to pass. there is no responsivness in the throttle to feel like you have control over the car. we loved this car before the madated update (we live in california, we have to get the update to register the car). no we feel like the car is unsafe to drive with our children in it!
Drove my car a short distance to a destination. turned the car off to complete my errand. returned to my car 10 minutes late and my car would not start. the equipment would come on,i.e. radio, lights, but brake seemed to be locked and engine would not start. this happened during city street driving. i just purchase the garden the dealer about 3mos ago.
2014 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regard to vehicle problems with emission devices and re generation protocol. *as the consumer stated the vehicle goes into safe mode. *js
We have had problems with our 2014 jeep grand cherokee for about 2 years with some delay in acceleration when at complete stop and then lurching forward. our alternator is now needing to be replaced and is not on the recall list for 2014 jeeps with defective alternator. ours clearly has a defective alternator.
Our dealership completed epa and carb emissions recall v08 for 3.0l diesel emissions on 20 may 2019. mileage out was 63,819. 200 miles later, we started the vehicle as normal. less than a mile later, as we started to accelerate onto the highway, the check engine light came on and our vehicle's information center displayed two separate diesel exhaust fluid (def) related warnings. the first saying def needed service/contact the dealership, while the second warning said we could not restart the vehicle after driving another 200 miles. we immediately found a safe spot to pull over and called the dealership. the acting service manager advised us that it was safe to drive the vehicle to the dealership as long as there were no obvious performance issues. he said it was probably emission related, that we would be ok if we didn't drive over 200 miles. he said going over 200 miles might abruptly put the vehicle into a "limp mode"! we were 150 miles away from the dealership but the vehicle was otherwise operating normally, so we took the service manager's advice and drove to the dealership. our jeep is an off-road, trail-rated, go anywhere vehicle designed to be used out in the wilderness/national parks as well as on the highway. it is an unacceptable safety hazard for the vehicle's computer to have control over starting because of an emission violation/problem. especially when in a remote location where a reliable vehicle is paramount to safety. moreover, there is significant potential for a serious crash if the vehicle abruptly goes into a "limp mode" either out on the highway or at a stop light. to date, our dealership has not found a solution to the check engine light nor the def warnings. they are keeping our vehicle and working with fiat/chrysler automotive (fca) representatives and engineers on a solution.
Lifters collapsed into the engine at 145k miles requiring installation of new engine. vehicle was less than 5 years old. at 2 years of age vehicle was making knocking noises and the check engine light was on. we brought it in for repairs multiple times replacing all lifters, rockers, cam shaft and catalytic converters all at our expense. each time the check engine light came back on in less than 2 weeks and the knocking continued. after spending all of this money the end result is having to spend more on the new engine.
The vehicle hesitates to start when pushing the button. takes multiple repeated times to start.
I had my vehicle in for an oil change exactly 2 months ago, mileage was at 58733. the other day after a trip out of town, i noticed a large puddle of oil under my car. take my car in to the dealership, mileage is now at 60579, thinking maybe something wasn't tightened properly after the oil change to find out that my oil filter adapter housing is leaking down the bell housing. the oil leak was noticed while vehicle was stationary. my vehicle is no longer under extended warranty, it just ran out 7 months. repairs cost me $1200.00. i reached out to dealer after reading all the known issues with this problem with jeep and asked if the housing could have been cracked upon the last oil change. obviously, i do not really drive that much but after this long trip is when the oil really poured out of the car.
Driver side air conditioner blows hot air even when temp is set as low as 63 degrees while the passenger side works normally. service rep at dealership informed me that this is a common problem with jeep vehicles. was told repairs could be over $1000. if jeep knows that this is a reoccurring problem, why should i have to pay for their error?

Jeep randomly stalls driving on freeway and/or jerks when downshifting. vehicle also downshifts hard from 8th to 6th gear, all other gear shifts are fine. while driving at 60 mph vehicle stalled when accelerating to speed up. vehicle attempted to downshift from 8th gear when stall occurred. once vehicle was stopped it started back up without issue to destination. it has chugged 5 separate times when downshifting on freeway in the 7 weeks of owning car, this time it completely died. no check engine light or other indications of engine/transmission failure. no failures recorded to onboard computer. gas tank 3/4, outside temp 38, oil temp 180, transmission temp 140; normal accessories on including lights, radio, heater, seat warmer low. all recalls up to date including campaign uc1.
Takata recall when i press the start button in the jeep it hesitates to start. sometimes have to do it couple times, then it shifts funny when you press on gas like it doesn't get enough power.
As approaching an intersection i began to coast and place my foot on the brake. at the time i started to brake, the vehicle surged forward for 1 second. as i came closer to a stop, the vehicle surged again at which point i had to "stand" on the brake pedal to prevent me and my family from rear-ending a vehicle and going into a busy intersection.
At the time when the manufacturers warranty has just run - the oil filter adapter bracket has started leaking causing oil loss in the engine. this was found by the oil spots on the driveway that were never there before. i searched online and found tsb sb-10058301-5939 in the nhtsa web site. the tsb tells the mechanic to use a wooden dowel pushed down along the front of the engine oil filter into the "valley" and when it is pulled out to look for oil on the tip. this is exactly what i found. the oil finds its way around the block and along the transmission and drips off the shield onto the ground. this is a very expensive repair as the part alone is rumored to be $799 plus the labor. it is an design flaw in that it is a plastic part where previously it was a metal part - cost savings that created a defect. so far -i have not been able to get the dealer to pay for the repair. and i can not afford the repair on my own. this should be a recall because of the possibility of a fire when the oil is laying on top of a hot engine is a puddle.
While in motion, on my way work, my 2014 grand cherokee summit with 3.0 l turbo diesel engine, 220 amp alternator and 49000 miles experienced a loss of power steering, battery light came on, voltmeter showed no charging of battery. my electronic indicator system stated the vehicle went into battery saver mode with a loss of abs, heating and ventilation, air suspension system, all safety enhancements such as park sense, no electronic transmission system changes and check engine light came on. there was a recall on gasoline engine 2014 grand cherokees along with others (chrysler recall t36) and i have seen another complaint similar to mine sharing the same engine on this sight. i do believe this is was caused by catastrophic alternator failure. a new battery was installed and the battery light is still on and still in battery saver mode( an indicator also of no charging) and volmeter indicates no charging. i will be replacing the alternator tomorrow.
Turbocharger water cooling inlet, mopar part number 68242889aa, is exposed to high temperatures on the hot side of the turbo, and the rubber heater hose that joins the two metal sections subsequently fails. this results in a complete loss of coolant, engine failure, and extreme temperature which may contribute to a fire hazard. in addition to my personal vehicle failing, i know of at least 5 other jeep grand cherokees and ram trucks experiencing the same issue. all these share the 3.0 ecodiesel engine.
2014 jgc with pentastar 3.6l v6 gas engine started making a ticking sound at start up approximately 3 weeks ago. the sound did not diminish after warm up. diagnosed today as a failed lifter and possible cam damage as well. inquired of the dealer about tsb 09-002-14 and was told this issue was limited to only 2011-2013 model years and that the engine in my vehicle was made after the date of the affected engines and was not included in the repair/warranty being offered by fca regarding the engine. the vehicle was manufactured in june 2013 and purchases in september 2013.
Two occurrences of catastrophic engine failure leaving me stranded on highway fearing for my life. first event dealer had jeep for 5 months to "replace motor" i had to contact them several times after getting it back to obtain documentation and was told original warranty of 100k miles would be renewed. recent second occurrence at 60k miles on new motor dealership has now had vehicle for over 2 months. now trying to charge me for high pressure diesel pump they replaced, car still not running. plan to replace all valves, will it run? initially it had shown so many codes they couldn't determine why the car failed. nhtsa has over 130 complaints on this motor. jeep fiat chrysler awaiting govt. to sign off on emissions scandal settlement that will allow them to not have to buy back this vehicle, unlike volkswagen who did the right thing for same issue and bought back. unlike volkswagen this vehicle has multiple documented defects and safety issues. i am being stonewalled by jeep for resolution. since my purchase of this jeep in 10/2014 it has been in for repairs unrelated to normal use more times than i can count, over 7 months in shop while i am paying on it without being able to use it. i purchased this vehicle for reliability, it has failed that test over time. they could again replace the motor and i do not want the vehicle back, i will not again risk being stranded on the highway, engine nearly on fire after shaking, knocking, rocking, and smoking not able to turn off until it dies. i refuse to resell it to some unknowing unsuspecting person that will end up with a lemon if the dealer gets it running. this jeep needs to be recalled immediately before someone loses their life! jeep and the dealer service departments need to be made to stop defrauding consumers and making millions on a defective lemon. i have never had so many issues with a vehicle in my life. help!!!
I have a 2014 jeep grand cherokee diesel model when i'm driving a lot of diesel fumes enter the interior of the vehicle i changed cabin filter and still have this problem
I am having to replace an alternator on this vehicle for sudden failure. currently there is a recall for exact condition but my vin is outside of recall limits. i feel my vehicle should be included as exact conditions exist..
