Problems with 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee ENGINE

On average, the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 65 620 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The engine malfunction light came on and i took it to the chrysler dealership on 1/28/2015. the codes that were set said the engine had a misfire and the left head would have to be replaced on the engine. i looked this up on the internet and this is a known problem with the 3.6 liter v-6 pentastar engines. it appears that chrysler said this problem only existed in half of 1% of this type of engine. it appears that the internet is full of people having this same problem. i would like to know if you are aware of this problem and exactly how many engines have had the left head replaced. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the engine stalled. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the fuel exchange module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 99,000.

On my vehicle dealers web site there is notice of the following recall. i purchased the vehicle used from them. they have no record of this recall being performed. please advise if the recall applies to the subject vehicle and if you have any record of it being necessary to do or if it was done at another dealer. thank you my 2012 jeep grand cherokee recalls makemodelyearsummary of recall jeepgrand cherokee2012chrysler is recalling certain model year 2012 chrysler vehicles, including 200 and town and country models, dodge vehicles, including charger, durango, grand caravan and journey models and jeep grand cherokee vehicles manufactured from august 31, 2011, through september 13, 2011, that are equipped with 3.6l engines. these engines may experience connecting rod bearing failure due to debris inside the engine block. connecting rod failure may lead to engine seizure which may increase the risk of a crash. chrysler will notify owners and replace the engine free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin on or about november 18, 2011. owners may contact chrysler at 1-800-853-1403. this is chrysler safety recall number l33.owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go tohttp://www.safercar.gov . *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 70 mph, all of the warning lights illuminated. in addition, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000. the vin was not available.

Vehicle stalled while stopped at stop light. when started, idled very rough and stalled again. car was towed to dealer. dealer indicated failure in fuel pump relay. repair involves disabling of fuel pump relay in totally integrated power module (tipm) and installing external fuel pump relay. failure also resulted in failure of valve spring. the repair regarding the fuel pump is identical to the repair outlined in chrysler safety recall p54/nhtsa 14v-530, which per chrysler customer service rep is only applicable to 2011 vehicles and not 2012 vehicles. this fuel pump failure affects more vehicles than outlined by original recall. *tr

While driving on a rainy day, my car shut of-at the time i was doing approx 50 mph. i had to pull over to the side and restart the car. when i took my car, i was informed there is a tipm issue and my computer needed to be replaced, costing me over $1500. since my warranty expired, i have to pay out of pocket. my hands are tied on this one, as it potentially can cause a serious safety issue for my future. also a problem with the tipm, my car has failed to start on approx 10 occasions. it takes me about 20 minutes to get it to start. *tr

The engine would turn over, but it would not start. it would start again after ten minutes or so. it has happened three times and been to the dealer twice. the dealer says they do not know what is wrong and can't fix it. the internet has information indicating that chrysler knows about the problem but does not have the parts to fix it. apparently, it could be an issue with the tipm. *tr

1-after quickly stopping on the side of the road to collect mail, i tried to go back into the road to continue driving but the steering wheel locked and i could not straighten the vehicle. i ended up crossing into the other side, going into the ditch and hitting a snow bank. due to the very slow speed (i was speeding from the parked position) and to the luck that there were no other cars coming on the opposite direction, no harm was done. dealership never found anything wrong with it. 2- i have had two safety recalls on this vehicle that have not been addressed on a reasonable time frame. for one of them, my car is at risk of fire under the hood, and for the other one, there could be engine stall and crash. jeep has informed of both, but has not been able to provide my dealership with the appropriate parts for fixing the problems. so i have been driving around with small children in the back seat, risking myself and my family's lives and all they can do is tell me nothing can be done and good luck? because it's monetarily cheaper to pay for lost lives than to avoid the loss? something needs to be done, this vehicle was not a cheap one, however we have been treated like they are doing us a favor just for letting us a know we are at risk of dying from car crash due to it's malfunctions.

Attempted to use the autostart to warm vehicle and after one minute it shut off. tried 5 times to start vehicle using push button, would not start or stop. finally let me start with keyfob. i contacted dealer that morning and was told it is most likely the tipm but they don't have any; also i was told it is unsafe to drive my vehicle and get it repaired asap. luckily i was able to locate a dealership with an appointment and part to fix it; even though they told me the computer might just need an update. vehicle continued to not start at random times using keyfob. having issues starting car up to the time i drove it across town to dealership, it would not turn over, sputtered, shook and started. i also have parts on order (been on order since 9/28/14) for the active recalls for brake booster and sun visor fires. i always hear a running sound after the vehicle has been shut off. chrysler's customer services department is no help. i expressed my concern with all the recall/safety issues via email and was told "sorry to hear of your concerns and delay in having parts. i regret the problems you are having with your vehicle. unfortunately we are unable to diagnosis your vehicles issues via email. we recommend contacting your authorized dealership to arrange an appointment." did they even read my complaint!!! i have an appointment to have it fixed but what happens between now and then. what happened to the dependable chrysler products? this is my 5th in 18 years of driving and my last. hopefully i do not hurt/kill anyone or myself behind the wheel of this vehicle. i am scared to drive it. it is a 2012 with 28k on it, this is just disgusting! for as much as these jeeps cost i expect a better product and customer service from chrysler. their dealerships can only do so much without backing from the manufacturer. chrysler needs to fix these issues these are safety issues. *tr

Total power loss in cabin and engine, unable to open passenger doors from inside. the vehicle would not start and there was a burning circuit smell emitting from under the tipm. aaa tried giving a jump but the vehicle would not turn over even though temporary electrical power had been established while connected to aaa power source. electrical power was lost upon disconnect from aaa source. dealership determined that the problem was alternator failure which resulted in subsequent damage to the vehicles battery and connecting cables. dealership also determined that the burning smell emitted from the battery. *tr

My wife was driving the vehicle when all of the sudden the engine started to rev and would not shift up or down. she could only go maybe 20 mph - people passing and honking on a 4 lane road. she found an area and pulled off the road into a retail parking lot. she put the car in park and then shifted back into drive and the issue continued as the car moved but the engine rev'ed without shifting to the next gear. she put the car in park and called the local dealer, where she was told to call chrysler road side assistance and have it towed in. the dealer took a look at it the next day and could not make it happen again. they said they re chipped it i believe(reset the electronics). this same issue happen again approx. 30 days later and it was towed in and they could not find any issue. they said we had to take the vehicle back and there was nothing they could do. we have had the vehicle towed twice now both in the morning taking our daughter to school. we cannot trust this vehicle and are looking at selling it. that is what the dealer suggested as well. *tr

I want to launch a complaint that today my 2012 jeep grand cherokee's engine caught on fire. i was stopped at a stop sign and noticed my car started smoking. a police officer in the car behind me told me to get out of the car because the car was on fire. the car was towed to the jeep dealership and i'm waiting for them to tell me what happened. when i got home i noticed three small pools of dried and wet red fluid that may have been leaking from my hood and be in someway related to this incident. i would like to know if there has been some type of recall or complaint linked to red fluid and engine fires. thank you. *tr

On three separate occasions over the past two months, i have experienced an unanticipated engine stall when decelerating from highway speed in order to make a turn (both right and left). in each of these instances, as i was in the turn (or immediately before), the engine stalled, leaving me without power-assisted steering or brakes. this makes the vehicle difficult to control, as the amount of physical force needed to complete a turn is very substantial. in each instance, after bringing the vehicle under control, i was able to restart it by placing the shift selector in "neutral," applying pressure to the brake pedal, and pushing the engine start button. while i have sufficient arm strength to have been able to maintain control in each of these instances, it is, at a minimum, a surprising and unexpected event to have steering and brake assist fail simultaneously. a smaller person could easily lose control of the vehicle under these circumstances. i do not know whether, when this occurs, the airbags are disabled, but that may also be a matter of concern. *tr

This vehicle will stall while you are in drive and driving. there is no indication that the car has stalled. lights and radio are one. when you go to break, the car will not stop. the following do not work, breaks, emergency break, power steering and throwing the car in park. you have to coast until you stop and hope you do not hit anything. once you stop, the car will restart. this is a know issues with this vehicle. it has been in over 3 times to get fix. it does have a recall but that has not fixed the problem. it is currently a deadly weapon.

06/30/2014: car was craning slow. outcome: battery replaced. brake booster recall and replaced. 08/18/2014: car was towed in. outcome: fuel pump overlay was replaced. 09/15/2014: car was towed in not starting. outcome: battery replaced and new alternator replaced. last incident happened on 09/12/2014 i was driving home, the car panel started flashing, vehicle shut off, and i lost power steering. no control of my car. thankful i wasn't in an accident. i had my children in the car. precious cargo. this is a huge safety issue and concern. if i was on the freeway i can only imagine what would have happened. my car only has 37k miles on it. an alternator should not be needed to be replaced at such low mileage. i can understand 100k. plus 2 battery replaces needed within 2 months. this car is not reliable nor safe. *tr

I have had multiple problems with my 2012 grand cherokee. all of the external lights modules ---headlights and tail lights--- went out and had to be replaced due to an electrical problem then the car sometimes wouldn't start. the dealer couldn't replicate the problem so told me they couldn't do anything. finally one time it happened at the dealer and they figured it was a defect in the keyless entry that was reading the signal from the key fob. then when they were inspecting the car they found the rear shock was leaking. they ordered a new part in june and it was finally replaced in oct as the part was on back order. on a routine oil change the service tech told me i needed routine maintenance check ( 30000 miles) to the tune of $1700 and wanted me to do it right then.. the day after this oil change the check engine light comes on. i called the dealer. they said it was probably because i hadn't done my 30000 mile check ( the day before). he said it could be variable things but probably a bad spark plug that needed to be replaced ( part of the $1700 check he had wanted me to do). i said i had other cars including a 2002 jeep and i hadn't had to replace the spark plugs at 30000 miles. then he realized my 3.6 l car did not need spark plugs changed at 30000 ---- only the 5.7 did. yesterday i checked my fluids and saw the power steering fluid was way low. i called the dealer to see if this was normal. the tech said no--- the steering fluid was in a contained system and should not loose fluid. he said i must have a leak somewhere in the system. he said it was very dangerous but not covered under warranty. he said the engine could catch fire or i could loose steering. why wouldn't this be covered under warranty? it is dangerous. the car only has 36000 miles and this leak should not happen. *tr

Bought jeep new on 12/2012. check engine light came on last week, took it to auto parts store to have it hooked up to computer and it read cylinder 4 misfiring. called jeep dealer and brought it in for service, they called and said it was the cylinder head and will replace. this makes me very concerned to see so many others having similar problems. wasn't even given a loaner car while repair was done because i didn't have the extended warranty. i only have 15,000 miles on car, shouldn't need extended warranty!! maybe jeep is trying to tell us something. *tr

My 2012 jeep grand cherokee laredo has stalled when turning on and has often not turned on. when driving the vehicle the car has shut off almost causing an accident.this has happened on many occasions. the car accelerates often when driving the lights, airbag symbols, etc turn on erratic. i had to replace the alternator and battery due to faulty timp which jeep has recalls on however not my year although-my car has the same problems which i have to pay for and i have researched and many other jeep owners have the same issues and jeep is very aware and are not taking responsibility, i feel unsafe driving this car especially with my children, the car is unreliable and have been late to work due to the car stalls and lack og turning on. this car has a mind of its own starts when it feels like it, speeds up on its own, lights turn on off, tells u keys left the car when it hasn't. very angry at jeep i should not have to pay for faulty equipment due to your negligence! *tr

This vehicle has recurring starting issues. at any time, cold or warm engine the ignition would engage and the engine fails to start. service dealership has not identified any specific reason why this occurs. on january 8th, the same starting issue occurred and this time the engine light appeared. the service dealership has identified a bad cylinder head. there recommended repairs are replacement of the cylinder head and associated components. service dealership stated the starting issue is not related to the cylinder head. they stated they would replace the fuel pump in an effort to resolve the starting issue. in discussions with jeep customer service they stated the cylinder head issue is related to nhtsa campaign number: 11v487000. upon reviewing this campaign it states the ?engine requires replacement?. i am not satisfied with a cylinder repair and a probable fix of the starting issue were the vehicle mileage is only 29k. i agree with nhtsa campaign requiring replacement of the engine. *tr

While driving our 2012 jeep grand cherokee limited the vehicle completely powers down. the engine shuts off and we loose all power to the vehicle. this has occurred a number of times both at low and high speeds. the vehicle will restart and operate normally immediately after these occurrences. over the past two months three attempts have been made to repair the vehicle and the problem continues. jeep believes they have identified the cause of the problem (wiring from tipm to fuel pump) but i have lost all confidence in their ability to accurately diagnose the cause based on past repair history. i believe the vehicle to be a danger to me, my family and others on the road. *tr

On 11/11/13, i took my car in for the state inspection and reported the issue of the car not starting / stalling out to huffines jeep in plano, tx. huffines diagnosed the problem as a faulty tipm. the replacement tipm was installed on 11/25/13. on 11/29/13, i noticed that every time i use my right blinker, my fog lights flash. car still does not start/stay running after starting and it has taken up to 8 tries to get it going. even if it sounds like the car started, it will sometimes die after running a few seconds. i've also noticed that the doors do not always lock when i press the button on the door handle. this is also related to the tipm. additionally, on 11/29/13, the dash light came on notifying me that the key fob battery was low. i replaced the key fob battery that day but that had no impact on the greater problems of the car not starting and the fog lights flashing when the right signal is activated. will be taking my jeep back to huffines tomorrow morning. *tr

I was driving my jeep from a stop sign and it all of a sudden slowed down and would not accelerate. the engine light comes on and forces me to pull over, restart it and it runs fine after that. well, it's happened 3 times after this and i have arranged a 7am service for it on monday. the book says check the gas cap or it may be bad gas, but i burned the gas down to 15 miles left and filled it with super unleaded. no matter what i do, like shift into n, rev the engine, nothing works until i pull over and restart it. *tr

Grand cherokee limited edition 2012 the computer is in trouble and mid fire two cylinder miss firing that was happened date 12/04/12. now there is a different trouble again happened 10/12/13 and then it takes two months for the spare parts to come out. the problem is it wont start. i don't what gonna be the next. the service will take for so long just imagine 2months time. im expecting for another trouble wit this. *tr

I have a 2012 jeep grand cherokee that was bought brand new in december 2011. in 2013 i experienced my first incident where my jeep started, ran for 1-2 seconds, then died. i tried multiple times to restart it and could not get it to restart. i finally decided to completely turn off the vehicle and start the ignition process over. thankfully that seemed to work. between the first incident and the next service visit (january 2014), this happened approximately 6-10 times. i made the dealer aware of the issue and they noted it on the service sheet; however they told me they saw no error codes and could not recreate the problem. the in february i had an incident where it started then stalled, then the security alarm sounded. i had to remove the push start and use the key in the ignition in order to disengage the security system. then approximately one week later i started the jeep to go to work and it died after running for 1-2 seconds. i restarted the ignition process, this time when i let go of the push button start the starter continued to crank for approximately 10 seconds, until i exited the vehicle and locked the car. now in the last two days the vehicle has started, ran for 1-2 seconds, then died on three separate occasions. i have made an appointment with the dealer and shared the above information with them. i have advised them that i think i have a bad tipm. i am hoping to get this addressed immediately since i have 33,500 miles on the vehicle and do not want this to be replaced after the warranty expires. i am seeing the average cost to replace the tipm at a dealer is $1200-$1400. there are enough similar stories about these sort of issues that jeep/chrysler should issue a recall and stand behind their product. *tr

2012 grand cherokee v8 overland summit. engine won't start at random times. engine just cranks and cranks but won't fire. let it sit for a while then will start. been into the dealer 3 times now since august 2013. they replaced fuel pump overlay harness after checking found no fuel pressure, and found a "star case" with fix. this did nothing as problem still occurs multiple times a week. dealer claims they have never heard of this problem. *tr

I bought the vehicle from a dealer with 14,500 miles on it. still under the 3 year, 36000 mile warranty. started the engine only to have the check engine light illuminate. drove byautozone and red the code, p0304, misfire on cylinder 4. brought the vehicle to the dealer where purchased and he sent it to the jeep dealer for service. i was given a loner car from the dealer i purchased it from. i received the vehicle back on wed. july 31st from my purchasing dealer and was told the computer was flashed and re-programmed. thursday morning, the day after the repair the check engine light illuminated again. called the dealer i purchased the vehicle from and will be dropping off friday morning. i know of the inherent issues with the 3.6 l pentstar engine cylinder heads and want both heads replaced. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v115000 (equipment, tires); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 10,000.

Engine light came on 3 months ago, took to dealer said it was nothing. i asked why did it come on they said it's just computers some times they have to be reset. engine felt like it was going to die. engine light came on monday took to same dealer. they said i had cylinder misfire in the 6th cylinder and had to replace it. after searching on the internet i see this is a problem with jeep cherokee 2012. why is this not on a recall? *tr

The contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that on 6/24/2013 the malfunction indicator light (mil) illuminated driving approximately 35 mph. the contact called the authorized dealer and notified them of the issue. the dealer stated the light was most likely caused by a loose gas cap. the dealer instructed the contact to give it a couple days and it would most likely turn off. the light turned off after 2 days. subsequently on 7/10/2013 the malfunction indicator light illuminated again while traveling at 50 mph and the vehicle stalled. the contact restarted the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer the next morning. the dealer ran a diagnostic test and informed the contact that the failure was caused by cylinder number 2 misfiring in the head of the engine. the dealer replaced the head, valve, and cylinder number 2 on 7/13/2013. vehicle was picked up on 7/15/2013 and the next day the malfunction indicator light illuminated again. contact notified the dealer of issue and will be taking the vehicle back. *tr

There have been four incidents while driving my vehicle at speed from 35 to upwards of 70 mph, my 2012 jeep grand cherokee without warning powers off and engine shuts off. the issues were diagnosed by criswell jeep service center, whereby the first occurrence was due a faulty and loose ground/ the subsequent re-occurrences were due to failure of totally integrated power module (tipm) which was replaced at mileage of 10,811. oddly, one year for second on june 10, 2014, same issue recurred. i contracted chrysler to report the defect and open a file on the matter. they instructed to take to another jeep service center for secondary assessment on electrical issues identified a year earlier. darcars jeep service center could not find nothing wrong even after their technician drove my suv to his residence and added 62 miles onto my vehicle. in conclusion, i informed a"possible of "fix" but the solution is unproven and not supported by chrysler. parts are on order to install a new receiver, antenna-r and antenna-p which should cure what is deem as unidentifiable issue. *tr

Check engine light (cel) is on with p0300 and p0302 codes, exhaust escaping #2 piston head- causing rough idling, cel flashes, and several stalls while in motion. found out this is "common" on pentastar engines, and parts are not readily available from chrysler to make repairs, and dealers let people drive the car instead of providing alternative transportation. they should have to repair and replace these heads that have now been redesigned in more current builds. letting people drive cars that can stall in motion is dangerous. not having parts readily available when they are having 300 to 400 of these failures a week is ridiculous. the attached link shows that chrysler had this part shortage since last summer, and is not meeting the demand for replacements even now. http://www.autoweek.com/article/20120813/carnews/120819959. *tr

April 5, 2013, less than a year (purchased - 2012 jeep grande cherokee laredo) the check engine light went on, took vehicle to service department, and informed my service provider (jeep dealership) there is a "problem" with the cylinder head. very disturbing because the vehicle was purchased brand new, less than 10k miles and already a major part must be replaced on a "brand new" vehicle. i am informed that is not a common, and there are several other owners with the same problem "check engine light on". repair took more than three days, because the entire engine must be taken out to replace these two cylinders. very alarming and very concerned for the future of this vehicle, what else could possibly go wrong next? two months later, driver side seat must be replaced due to cracks in the "leather". two months after, brakes are making strange noises, acceleration very slow, stalls, must press very hard on gas pedal for vehicle to pick up speed, very frightening especially when entering the freeway. door panels appears loose, the doors (3) will not stay open, requires extra push and hold before it stays open by itself. to close the door i must literally slam the door, otherwise not shut, very disturbing because my childrens sit back there. hopefully this is my last encounter the cameras (back) of vehicle flash on and off, i am very concern especially when the position of the driver seat makes looking back very difficult, the camera cannot be functioning inefficiently. the vehicle has a 3/year or 36,000 mile warranty and with the amount of issues i have encountered i do not find that to be sufficient or even utterly appropriate. i purchased a brand new vehicle not a used. if there were no warranties i could not imagined paying out of pocket thousands of dollars on repairs. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the engine warning lamp illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician stated that the cylinder head was corroded and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 47,000. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. while making a left turn at 10 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician replaced the external fuel pump relay and disconnected the internal fuel pump relay, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer on multiple occasions, but the cause of the failure was unable to be determined. the contact stated that the failure continued to recur intermittently. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 64,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while traveling 45 mph, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was moved to the shoulder. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and was then taken to the dealer to be inspected. the dealer stated that the failure was caused by cylinder number 4 misfiring in the head of the engine. the dealer also stated that the part was currently on back order. the vehicle was awaiting repairs. the failure and current mileages were 23,000.

This jeep has remote key-less entry/engine start. the engine cannot be turned off unless the gear shift is in park. if the throttle stays open causing unintended acceleration, one cannot turn the engine off. this could result in one or more deaths and/or serious injury! if one had an accident causing the engine to rev up due to a jammed gas pedal, how do one turn it off? chrysler customer service was contacted about this issue and their response was "the characteristic you describe, however, is a function of your vehicle's design and there is nothing that can be done to ?fix? the condition." reference number: email case number: supplied upon request. in other words they don't care about this safety issue! i have another car that can have the engine turned off, but it is a standard transmission. madza's can be turned off while in drive with automatic transmissions. this jeep was purchased in the usa. *tr

I have an ongoing problem with starting my 2012 jeep grand cherokee v8 overland. the jeep will start but will stall right away. sometimes if you put the jeep in gear quickly it will stall in gear also. most of the time it stalls right after starting. i have to shut the jeep off and press the start button again to get it started. i have had this jeep at the dealership (colorado chrysler jeep) multiple times over the last two years and the "resolution" for the dealership is that they can not recreate the problem. on 4/10/15 the dealership said that it stalled on them and they replaced a switch ig 08053059. received the jeep back and it stalled the next day. called colorado chrysler jeep back and they said that the service department would have to get an electrician in to have it looked at and that would take a couple of weeks. i called chrysler at this point and chrysler had me take the jeep into cherry creek dodge because they could "get me in quicker". on 5/22/15 i took the jeep to cherry creek dodge and the service department performed procedure s1308000399 5/2015 outlined in chrysler's star system. the next day the jeep stalled. i have called back multiple times to both chrysler and cherry creek dodge with either no answer or no solution. cherry creek dodge is now putting me of with a new recall saying the service department thinks that will fix the problem, and chrysler wants to go with what cherry creek dodge says. my problem is that this has been going on for two years. i'm not sure what to do at this point. ever day the jeep stalls at some point. any assistance with this problem would be greatly appreciated. we first noticed this problem at about 25,000 miles. we took the jeep to colorado chrysler at 35,451 miles and the jeep has about 54,000 miles now. at first the stalling was just every once in a while, now it happens daily.

This has happened 3 times, the first time i had just gone through the dulles toll and as i paid the toll and pulled off the engine did not stay in drive, it went into 1st or 2nd gear. the second and third time i was again driving on the beltway and the gear switched from drive to neutral or a lower gear. each time (3) i had to pull over and stop and go into park and then back into drive. don't know if it's an engine, gear or power train issue. also almost daily when driving, the engine sounds like it's pulling/straining and not going all the way into drive. this is happening in the winter and summer (any time of year, not weather specific). i always warm the car up before driving it. when the engine is not having this issue, it drives very smoothly. the issue happens 75% of the time (except when i take it to the dealer, it always drive smoothly when they take it out). have taken it to the dealer and complained but the response has been that when they took it out to test drive it, it was fine and they would have to keep it and do several test drives to see if it will replicate the situation. because i need my vehicle to get back and forth to work each day and they are not willing to pay for a rental or provide a loaner, that isn't possible. i don't have the funds to rent a car and pay a car note. i received the recall for the issue with the brakes so hopefully my experience with the brake needing to be pushed on firmly will go way when the part's come in (huge back order, on waiting list for parts). i also get the car serviced regularly (when it's time) so i know that's not the problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph attempting to stop, the brakes failed. the engine stalled and restarted shortly after. the problem recurred approximately 3 times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 11,000.

A check engine light came on whilst stopped at a red light. we took it to autozone and they plugged into it and they displayed a misfire on 2. this is the 2nd time it happened. the first time chrysler changed the head. now its in the shop for the same issue. i am waiting for the dealer to get back with me on what chrysler is going to do. *tr

I started the engine of my 2012 jeep and as soon i began traveling with the jeep fluids poured from the middle of the engine. i did not notice this until i stopped the vehicle after driving 10 minutes. the computer did not show any signs of an error or engine trouble. when i stopped the vehicle and looked under the front of the car i saw a steady stream of orange liquid pouring from the middle of the engine. this fluid was engine coolant. i immediately had the vehicle towed to a local chrysler service station. my jeep has been with the service department for over two weeks now. the jeep cannot be fixed due the fact that chrysler has no spare parts. *tr

Engine started running roughly and attempted to stall in traffic. check engine light came on. i went to jeep dealer in gulf shores alabama and was told that the left cylinder head was defective. i was also advised that it was a manufacturing defect that could result in catastrophic engine failure. it is a well known defect in the 2012 cherokees with the 3.6 pentastar engine. if this vehicle had stalled while on an interstate ramp, or a valve in the defective head dropped down into the cylinder, an accident could result. jeep has full knowledge of this defect but has not issued a recall. this could be as serious as the gm ignition switch issue. *tr

The contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. on 5/8/2012 the contact pushed the start button on the vehicle, the lights on the vehicle flashed once, and immediately the vehicle turned off completely. contact pushed the start button again, the lights in the vehicle remained off, and the engine did not start. the vehicle battery was completely dead. contact attempted to jump start the vehicle in order to drive it to the dealer but vehicle still would not start. subsequently the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for repair. dealer determined vehicle had a bad battery. per the invoice received from the dealer "body ground at battery was not secure" and after installing new battery mechanic noticed "sparking at lower negative cable on body" and that he "found nut for stud laying in the bottom of the battery tray". mechanic then noted he fixed the above problems and re-installed the new battery. dealer then returned the vehicle to the contact. the manufacturer was notified of the issue and a case was assigned. *tr

I bought my band new 2012 jeep grand cherokee overland 7 months ago - brand new from the chrysler jeep dealership and about a month after i bought it i started to notice the acceleration is not 100%, the windows stop rolling up or down for hours at a time at random time, the brakes sometimes don't work all the way, the engine jumps when switching gears and most recently my check engine light came on, the car would not accelerate and the rpms would not go past 1.5 even when flooring it & there were loud clicking noises with a loud fan. this time i was not able to drive to the dealership - i had to tow it in because it was not drivable. i have taken it to the dealer ship 3 times for them to check on these things & everytime i take it in they tell me they are "unable to recreate the problems" & cannot help me. i have called numerous times to complain & report issues and they either tell me they cannot help me, they put me on hold for an infinite amount of time, i go to voicemail, or no one is available. they called me today, after having it for 4 days, and told me the check engine light was for a "evap perg system" so they replaced a hose & updated my power control module as a precaution. when i asked them how this had anything to do with my engine problems he could not explain it. when i asked him why my engine has problems he could not explain it. no one there wants to help me - what i feel like they are doing is giving me excuse after excuse in the book, stalling me for as long as they can until my warranty runs out. i have dealt with 4 managers there - the 1st one stopped returning my phone calls, the 2nd one told me i am imagining things and i should stop complaining and be thankful that i have a new car, the 3rd one pond me off onto a 4th one & the 4th one told me to my face that i am a liar and i am making up stories so the situation looks worse then it actually is. *tr

This jeep was replaced because the prior jeep was lemon law. the engine light appeared after about 3 weeks of purchase, the car was brand new. like the last jeep, it would stall causing loss of power brakes and power steering. the electrical system would also freeze (navigation and radio) constantly and would not fix itself unless the battery was unplugged. shave jeep in thousand oaks, ca upgraded the engine and navigation software, but problems resumed short after. shaver jeep then informed me that they would only look at the vehicle if the engine light was on. the engine light would go on and off so it was hard to time it right to bring it into the shop. because of this "rule," shaver jeep will not acknowledge that the car has been brought in for repair 7 times. as of today, the car stalled on a busy freeway and put the passengers in danger. constant engine code: crankshaft position sensor. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel cap might have failed or the contact might have refueled the vehicle with the inaccurate fuel type. the failure occurred intermittently. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 1,000.

My issue with the jeep is that i believe it has an design and engineering flaw. this vehicle has an automatic transmission. when the shift lever is in drive the lever if bumped accidentally to the left it will down shift. this has happened to me on several occasions. i was traveling in excess of 65 mph's the first time it happened and didn't realize what had caused the downshift. this is very hard on the transmission and engine not to say a major safety issue. i'm left handed and drive such, many times i have caught the right sleeve of my shirt on the shift lever and have caused the transmission to downshift . i believe there should be a lever or button that should be depressed to allow the downshift to occur. please address this issue. thank you! *tr
