Problems with 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 62 340 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Hi, i am writing to you today because my family and i had a couple near miss situations in regards to my braking system on my 2011 jeep grand cherokee. there was a audible heavy air leak from the broken vacuum seal going to the brake booster. with no power brakes i was on the verge of rear-ending vehicles and even worse pedestrians for a couple days until i could get my car in for servicing. i took my vehicle to a licensed mechanic prior to servicing and he told me of a very recent recall that was just getting initiated by chrysler in hopes of avoiding this exact situation. recall p14. when i brought my suv in to get it serviced they said there was no recall assigned on behave of my specific vin number even though they did agree this recall fits exactly to what my deficiency is. i am getting it repaired as we speak because i do not want to take a chance or fool around with anything as vital as my braking system. they are replacing the entire booster and vacuum seal. if you would be so kind to inform me as to why this recall is not specific to my vin and 2011 grand cherokee as a faulty braking booster and seal is in no way supposed to fail in 3 years i would appreciate it. i am at the moment on hook for a bill that's 700 dollars plus from haley dodge jeep chrysler in white rock bc. i have contacted chrysler's customer service in regards to this matter over a week ago but have not heard back. look forward to hearing from you, thank you for your time! Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that there was air in the brakes upon applying the brakes intermittently. the contact applied force to the brake pedal to ensure the vehicle came to a complete stop. the contact received notification for recall nhtsa campaign id number: 14v154000 (service brakes and service brakes hydraulic). however, the parts were not available in order to perform the recall repairs. the contact mentioned that after several months the parts became available and the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the delay. the failure mileage was unknown.

During highway speeds, my brake peddle went all the way to the floor and there was barely any pressure in system. took to dealer and was advised i had to replace my brake booster because it failed but it was not covered under warranty. had to pay out of pocket. *tr

This jeep engine failed / stalled while driving. this caused the vehicle to veer off the road twice on a turn, and almost cause two rear ends by failing in mid traffic, in four different occasions, since 2014. the vehicle engine cuts out, which causes the power steering and brakes to not function properly. the vehicle was in motion on various main streets, when this occurred. naperville jeep dealership (where this vehicle was purchased) has also maintained this vehicle per the maintenance schedule, has worked on this problem since it began. they have not been able to resolve the issue and returned the vehicle to us confident the problem was 'resolved' or non-existent. attached is the vehicle recall and replacement record. from online research it seems this has occurred to other jeep grand cherokees before and the typical solution is replacing the totally integrated power module (tipm). this vehicle's tipm was 'repaired' sept 3, 2014. below are the maintenance records related to this problem. 03/26/2014 mileage: 44,680 wro# 599705 11/25/2014 mileage: 51,329 cro# 615926 01/07/2016 mileage: 65,485 cro# 646292 06/10/2016 mileage: 69,938 cro# 658369 this vehicle is not safe and we have lost all trust and confidence in this vehicle.

Brakes are not properly working. *tr

Vehicle first exhibited a hissing noise whenever the car was first started and brakes applied for the first 5 minutes of running. on multiple occasions traveling at speeds of 10-40 mph did the brakes either delay or not fully respond. on two occasions this almost caused an accident when driver was forced to stop short. very dangerous and contemplating whether to contact a dealership or local mechanic. seems like a popular issue but little to nothing done by jeep. this is my 2nd grand cherokee, if issues like this keep occurring it will certainly be my last. i am the second owner, bought car at jeep dealership and it has about 51k miles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v154000 (service brakes , service brakes, hydraulic) and stated that the part needed was unavailable to perform the repair. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving 10 mph, the brakes malfunctioned as the brake pedal sunk into the floorboard. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 33,777. *tr

Unable to stop/longer than normal stopping distance in panic stop situation- brake pedal is hard and unable to engage abs. occurs only in cold ambient temps ( below 20 degrees) first panic stop after driving at freeway or highway speeds. *tr

On 2/26, i experienced a brake failure in my 2011 jeep grand cherokee. when i pressed the brake pedal, it was very stiff, and i could not stop my vehicle as quickly as i could before. the pedal only went halfway to the normal depressed position. the vehicle did not stop, and i had to coast to a stop. i took my vehicle to a jeep dealership that evening for repair, and i was told the following day that the problem is the power brake booster. i was told on saturday (3/1) that the part would arrive at the dealership on tuesday (3/4). i spoke with the dealership today, and there is now no eta for the part (the power brake booster). upon further searching online, i've become aware that this is a common problem for 2011/2012 grand cherokees and dodge durangos. apparently, the diaphragm in the booster cannot withstand the colder temperatures that we've been experiencing recently in the northeast, and allow moisture to get into the brake system, causing freezing. driving the vehicle is extremely dangerous, as the brakes do not function at all when attempting to stop the vehicle. *tr

As i was driving less than a mile to work on a very cold new jersey morning my brakes felt unusually hard and high. as i pulled into the school parking lot, where i work, i stepped on the brakes to slow down on the decline of the road and they would not go down, they went down only about a centimeter or two, and i just kept pressing them. again they felt extremely hard and high. there was a school bus full of children in front of me and i just prayed i would not rear end them. thank god i was only doing 15 mph....if any faster it would have been a nightmare!!!!! i called my dealer and they said do not drive it, have it towed here. i did have it towed that day and today i was informed i need a brake booster like many other people. they are back ordered and could take 3, yes three weeks because of the huge demand. i believe if i was going any faster than 15 mph lives would have been lost. :( *tr

I have had vacuum leak (hissing air noise)in brake power boost for quite some time. part is on national b/o from jeep--not due in until 3/4/14(date keeps being pushed back), because so many people (over 500)have same problem. i was driving down hill at end of my street and as i applied brakes, they did not work. i pressed as hard as i could but car just drove through intersection. i pumped them several times and they finally came back. if another vehicle had been coming, we could have been killed. i do not understand why ntsb has not issued recall for something as dangerous as this, that directly affects driver's safety. *tr

I own my car for 3 years now with 23k miles on it, got it as brand new. on feb 24th monday morning i experienced a brake issue, plus hissing noise coming out from under the dashboard. first i thought it needs some time to work around after being on driveway for 2 days(on a weekend) but after driving around and waiting on a red lights that noise didn't go away. braking is kind of different now, i need to push the pedal harder in order to stop the car but in case of an emergency it will be very difficult. power brake booster is back-ordered according to a service center rep at the dealer i got my car from. now need to wait, pay for it and installation. looks like i'm not the only one with this same issue, why not a recall? *tr

Was driving my 2011 jeep grand cherokee and brakes failed had to swerve off road until i came to a stop. had to have car towed to gas station. mechanic determined it was the booster brake assist. he called chrysler dealership and they said that they don't have any and there are hundreds on backorder and could be several months before you get the part. i called chrysler and they acted like there wasn't an issue with this part and they would expedite one to the dealership. my mechanic was on phone with dealership while i had chrysler corp. on phone. the dealership laughed and said you are not going to get part expedited as they are in same situation with several cars themselves. so chrysler is not going to do anything, not going to pay for towing of my car, not going to pay to have car fixed, not going to give me a loaner car ( could be months). there is a serious issue with defect on this part and it's just a matter of time before some gets seriously injured or dies from this. chrysler should be issuing a recall instead of trying to mask the problem. do they have to wait for several injuries or deaths before they issue a recall. this is a known defective safety issue that should be addressed asap. for crying out load it's the brakes of the car! *tr

My brake booster blew. now awaiting brake booster and brake master cylinder. my jeep is still in dealership garage. jeep liaison is now telling me april 2 is delivery date of parts, this date seems to change weekly. stating this is manufacturer's date of (out of stock parts) delivery to dealership. *tr

Ok when i went to work thursday @ 3:30 am i had no brake issues when i left work @ 3pm i back out of parking spot & proceeded to street as i approached the stop light i press brake pedal to stop & it was unusually hard i press harder & my jeep didn't want to stop it was a slow stop i proceed to the next stop the pedal was soft then i stopped in a shorter distance as i proceeded home a short distance from work i traveled real slow with short following distance then i noticed a air leak hissing sound every time i pressed on the brake pedal i called jack phealen dodge to set up a appointment to bring it i expand to the service writer the problem i was having he told me sounds like it's your brake booster or master cylinder he knew right away i told me to get it in also advise me the brakes can fail & i won't be able to stop @ anytime. so friday after work i got a tow truck to it there he told me they will look @ it first thing sat. am i called sat. after noon he told me they haven't looked @ it yet it will be looked @ by the end of the day i will call you. i got no call back from him sat i went on line found out people with same vehicle & yr. have same problem the brake booster i get the feeling i am going to get ran around by jeep like the other 1000s of people are trying to get it fix& the wait also will be a problem i hope you can help me get this brake safety issue resolve for me. thank you. I posted my story on february 21, 2014. after contacting chrysler on march 3, 2014, they informed me that they will replace by broken brake booster with another faulty brake booster. jeep is no longer manufacturing the brake booster, which is a recall, and no one will do anything about it. chrysler does not care and are neglectful to their consumers and basically don't care to put me in another dangerous situation. i intend on filing a class action lawsuit against chrysler. they are the worst to do business with. they are out to make money and don't care if their consumers die. chrysler has no problem and thinks it absolutely safe to put me in a vehicle that, without warning, could cause me to lose my life and potentially take others. *tr

I was driving through louisville, ky on feb. 10, 2014 and had to take a detour; exited onto the off ramp of storey ave. i attempted to apply the brakes and they did not function. couldn't yield to oncoming traffic and was forced to merge. i nearly got into an accident. i attempted to apply the brakes again for the stop light on spring st. i was unable to stop. i had to proceed through the intersection, nearing another accident. i pumped the brakes and nothing, nearing another accident.i tried to apply the emergency brake and nothing. i coasted and was forced to threw my car into park in the worst part of louisville. the area was so dangerous, a police officer had to sit with me. i contacted chrysler's off-road; was told it would take 4 hrs for a tow truck. i called a different towing company. after 2 1/2 hrs. it was towed to a dealership. my family was inconvenienced since they had to drive a total of 4 hrs. to come pick me up. i've had no transportation for 3 weeks. i called the dealership numerous times asking when my vehicle would be ready. on feb.19, they said the brake booster is on back order and no eta. i called my local jeep dealership for the part. a man who told at least 650 orders are placed for this part and chrysler is not manufacturing it. that means no car for the unforeseeable future. i purchased this vehicle in dec.of 2013 & 30 days after driving it i'm left stranded and inconvenienced. i have paid with pain, suffering and time. i have done research and found that a lot of other people are in the same situation and chrysler is not helping nor offering any assistance. jeep forum, nhtsa, and the attorney general has been notified. i'm contacting the major news channels with the issue. chrysler will wait for a consumer to die, a wrongful death lawsuit and/or a class action claim be filed before they take ownership and recall there product. *tr

Since the weather has gotten cold, the power brakes on my 2011 jeep grand cherokee have been failing on an intermittent basis nearly resulting in a couple accidents. in the process of completing a thorough inspection, i detected a hissing sound when i depressed the brake pedal. suspecting that there was a problem with the vacuum booster, i called several parts stores in attempt to find a replacement unit only to find out that no one had access to the part and they were on indefinite backorder. after doing extensive online research, i have come to find out that there appears to be a major problem with the jeep vacuum boosters resulting in a national shortage of replacement parts. based upon the reports by others, it appears that there is a serious design flaw with the vacuum booster which is exacerbated during cold periods. it is also my understanding that the nhtsa is completing an investigation into the problem. in short, i am between a rock and a hard place. i cannot get a replacement part to fix my brakes and i am deathly afraid to drive my vehicle. on behalf of my fellow consumers, we need the nhtsa to put pressure on the jeep corporation to step up and address the problem before someone gets seriously hurt or killed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v530000 (electrical system), 14v391000 (electrical system), and 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic); however, the parts needed to do the repairs were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact had not experienced a failure.

Upon exiting freeway on 2/05/14 car stalled without warning, making it difficult to steer because loss of power and brakes not fully functional i almost ran into street divider, i was able to steer to the side of the road, where i attempted to restart the vehicle. vehicle did start and seemed fine afterwards. it happened again 4 days later again while exiting freeway off ramp again. i took the vehicle to the dealership where they hooked it up to a diagnostic and found no codes other then a software update they did they could not find a problem. i've read several complaints about this same type of stalling without warning on other jeeps and no one has been able to get any help with this issue. i suppose not until someone dies from this malfunction of these jeeps will chrysler start to look into this problem and recall the part that is causing this to happen. *tr

The brake booster on this vehicle failed causing the brakes to be nearly nonfunctional. the vehicle could be brought to a stop but only with both feet on the pedal pushing as hard as you can. this vehicle only has 50,000 miles on it used to commute about 40 miles to and from work on rural roads. so very little breaking is needed. the brake booster which failed was back ordered for 2 to 3 months and i was number 59 in line for one. my dealer had to use a booster from a salvage yard to get me back on the road. the master cylinder also had to be replaced because of an o ring failure which required replacement of the entire master cylinder. this should not be happening on such a new vehicle and if there are so many, why not a recall? this was paid for out of my pocket. i love jeep, but this is a bit much. *tr

While driving, i lost total use of my brakes. my car veered off the road and i was unable to maintain control of my vehicle. the loss of the brakes was sudden and totally unexpected, leaving me in an unsafe situation. when i was able to get my vehicle to the jeep dealer to be fixed, i was informed there were no jeep grand cherokee brake boosters available through any suppliers in the united states. i am concerned that the problem i experienced, along with the lack of available parts after the fact, means that this issue may be occurring frequently and is putting individuals in danger. *tr

My 2011 jeep grand cherokee brake booster failed. i am getting a "hissing" noise from the booster and my braking power has been reduced. the issue started during a real cold snap in the northeast... not sure if the defect is related to this cold weather or not. after calling my dealership, it appears that the boosters are on backorder from an overwhelming need to have this part replaced. it seems that a lot of other people have had this problem during this cold winter. *tr

Brake failure in cold weather due to defective power brake booster. *tr

I was driving on 1/22/14 and my brakes were making a leaking air sound when abruptly it stopped braking normally. the vehicle was slowing down but it took alot longer to fully stop. i ended up in the middle of an intersection and almost hit a car because i had not fully stopped before my red light. i immediately brought my car in for service slowly to bay state jeep in newton, ma, which they called me pretty quickly to tell me that the power brake booster was broken and it was on backorder. its 7 days past and they are still telling me chrysler has a negative quantity of 89 nationwide on backorder. *tr

Noticed a hissing sound coming from the brake pedal area during the recent cold weather. then the brakes would not stop the jgc well during heavy brake pedal depression. my mechanic determined it was a bad power booster and said they were on national backorder at all the local dealers. seems many jeep and durango owners are having similar issues. a dangerous problem that jeep needs to address. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee 4x4. the contact stated that the brake warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the manufacture for a diagnostic test. the mechanic stated that there was air leaking by the brake booster and causing the malfunction of the brakes. as a result, the entire brake assembly would need to be repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 43,000. the current failure mileage was 44,000. the vin was not available. *tr

The brakes on my 2011 jeep grand cherokee stopped working after a freeze in the northeast. i brought it into the jeep dealership and now the part is not available. there appears to be over 500 jeeps just like mine at this time off of the road because of this issue. i'm afraid that there is a design flaw with the part as it lets moisture into the brake booster once it gets cold rendering the brake booster useless when the driver looks to stop. this is a severe issue and i was very lucky to be able to get the jeep to a dealership right away. *tr

While traveling at normal highway speed slowed downed to exit highway and when i went to stop to pay toll brake pedal became hard as a rock and car would not stop. i released pressure from pedal and tried to pump brakes and got car to stop, abs system did not activate and no warning lights were activated!!!!! when i took car to service station i was informed the power booster for the brakes had blown. and the dealer informed the service station there are -7 on the north eastern region and the cold weather has caused this part to blow out!!!!!! *tr

I am second owner of a 2011 jeep grand cherokee that at the time of the following incident had just under 35k miles but was 2 months over the warranty period. the temperature the morning of jan 4, 2014 was between -2 & -4 f. i started jeep and proceeded to drive to end of block. when depressing and/or releasing brake i heard an air leak from under the dash. i returned home and parked the car. the next day the outside temperature had gone above 5 degrees f. the car no longer made the air leak sound. i dropped vehicle off evening of jan 6 to local mechanic. temperature on jan 7 dropped to 5 f. mechanic indicated air leak condition was noted and indicated issue was power brake booster. they suggested i contact jeep to see if they would make repairs. i had discussions with chrysler/jeep and jeep dealer about issue. i did not mention that i had taken the vehicle to a mechanic. i advised them that indications were a bad power brake booster and that i felt this was a latent failure that would only show up at subfreezing temperatures. chrysler/jeep indicated since auto had 35k miles but exceeded 36 months, the vehicle was not under warranty and jeep would not diagnose or cover cost of repair without me paying. i had replacement of power booster done by the local mechanic on jan 15. they determined there was water in the booster. it was their diagnosis that the booster had a leak that allowed water to enter. when temperature dropped to those noted, the booster would exhibit an air leak. i have subsequently searched the condition on several chrysler vehicle internet forums and have found that this booster failure condition is described almost identically to what i encountered. i have a concern that this is a design issue and the problem is not detectable unless the temperature drops below a certain degree. this could result in a power brake failure. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact attempted to have the vehicle repaired according to nhtsa campaign number: 14v154000 (service brakes), but the parts were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. the contact had not experienced a failure.

There are three key parts that must work after a car starts, steering, braking and accelerating. the brake booster and power steering pump in my 11 jeep grand cherokee need to be replaced. i'm currently taking all precautions when driving, however this is not nearly enough. i feel that an accident is inevitable. it has now been two weeks waiting for two parts. facing the worst weather conditions in years i would like to feel safe driving to work and with my family. i understand that certain statistics have to meet before issuing a costly recall, however under these conditions i'm faced with (backordered parts) i don't see why an exception shouldn't be issued against chrysler. if a problem exists you should be able to have the parts available to meet demand. not being able to meet demand will almost surely provoke a class-action lawsuit. my question is what steps are being taken by the nhtsa against jeep/chrysler? hit the gym and flex your muscles. the worst action is not taking one. *tr

I have received multiple recall notices multiple times (p36, p14, p54), i have asked my local jeep dealer (rairdon's of bellingham wa) about these recalls multiple times over the last year and have been informed that the parts are not available yet to perform the repairs for these recalls, they also assured me that i was on the waiting list for these recalls to be performed, i still have not been contacted. finally i called another jeep dealer karmart jeep of burlington wa, they said they had the parts in stock and scheduled my appointment and took care of all three recalls. i am not happy that rairdons put my safety and my family's safety in jeopardy for well over a year when parts were obviously available. *tr

I am the second owner of a 2011 jeep grand cherokee that at the time of the incident had under 65k miles but was just 1 month over the warranty period. the temperature the morning of dec 18, 2014 was cold. i started jeep and proceeded to reverse out of driveway and pressed brake and heard a hissing sound from under the wheel dash. after driving for maybe 15 minutes the hissing stopped. thus, every morning the hissing would happen at first start of jeep. on christmas day while driving on expressway the brake light comes on. i pull over to check fluids and found fluids were not leaking and at capacity. pump my brakes and i notice i still have function. i take vehicle a day later to a local mechanic and was told they did not find a problem with vehicle brakes. on jan 20th took jeep to dealer and mechanic indicated issue was power brake booster. *tr

Report receipt date: apr 01, 2014 nhtsa campaign number: 14v154000 component(s): service brakes , service brakes, hydraulic jeep has not derived the correct test to correct this issue. my brakes failed last winter due to this very issue. jeep would not correct the brake issue until they did a formal recall and letters were sent. i now have my letter and went to the dealer. the dealer refuses to replace the brake booster as it apparently passes the test jeep established. they only put up the booster shield. the problem is that the water already did get into my brake booster and my brakes froze. i nearly had three accidents over the course of the winter 2013/2014. i expect i will have more close calls if not a full on accident this year when my brakes again freeze up and stop working. this needs to be addressed, and jeep needs to replace all these boosters. jeep are not only sending me back out on the road with a dangerous vehicle, but thousands of others who allegedly passed the test, yet will freeze again this winter. unfortunately, we need to become a statistic before jeep properly corrects the issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that in colder weather, the brakes would seize. the contact would depress the brakes and the vehicle would not respond. additionally, the brake pedal would not release when depressed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 30,000. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and an unusual noise emitted from the dashboard. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the brake booster needed to be replaced. there was a recall related to the failure under nhtsa campaign id number 14v154000 (service brakes , service brakes, hydraulic) but the vin was not included. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 43,000.

Jeep is unreliable turning on. will crank and crank and crank, but never turn over. after 10 or so tries, will sometimes start. other times, i have to leave it and try again later. dealer says it is related to the tipm. which is backordered, with no estimated ship date in sight. this part is also linked to my automatic brakes, airbags, electrical, etc. my car is still under warranty and the dealer refuses to grant me a courtesy or rental car until the part comes in. they suggested i keep my unreliable car for the time being. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph and attempting to stop the vehicle, the brakes malfunctioned. the contact was informed by an independent mechanic that the brake boots and pedal was defective. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 40,000. the vin was not available.

When trying to come to a stop, the brake pedal goes as far as allowed and vehicle continues to roll for 5, 10, 15 ft. the brakes operate as normal at speeds, but when you try to stop, it doesn't happen as expected. the dealership replaced the master cylinder and power brake booster. they would not cover the costs as it's out of manufacturer warranty, luckily i purchased the lifetime bumper to bumper extended warranty and they wanted me to pay the deductible associated with that policy. i was not happy with that either so i called chrysler directly, they in turn called the dealership and told me to talk to the service manager to see if he'd waive the deductible. i was surprisingly successful at getting the deductible waived, but he did not have to. a vehicle with 43k should not have these issues and i see that i'm not the only one with this problem, therefore that is why i'm reporting it. i picked vehicle up 10/18/2013 and it seems to be braking normally at this time. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic), nhtsa campaign number: 14v391000 (electrical system) and nhtsa campaign number: 14v530000 (fuel propulsion system). however, the parts needed were not available. the dealer did not provide a specific date when the parts would become available. the manufacturer was contacted and could not provide an estimated date for when the vehicle would receive the recall repairs. the contact was not experiencing a failure.

I purchased the above listed vehicle in april 2013, had to bring it back for an issue with the brakes. i had little to no pedal, brought the vehicle into the dealer waited approximately two weeks and the vehicle was returned to me. service writer stated that being the truck was on the lot for a while, the brakes got warped. was told that the brakes were changed. i left with the vehicle that had a little more pedal since i brought it into service.on or about the first week of feb. 2014 i experienced my brake pedal was hard as a rock and i was unable to stop the vehicle. brought my vehicle into service explained to them what was going on and they said it was the brake boosters. i get into my vehicle a few days later and once again i was not able to stop the vehicle, this time i almost was involved in an accident. i drove the vehicle almost 10 miles at 20 mph to the dealership and demanded they fix the brakes. the service manager came out got into my vehicle drove it down the street while i was the vehicle, the vehicle was there for almost five weeks, i finally received a call on april 10, 2014 that my vehicle was ready. i get into the vehicle i press on the brake pedal and the pedal goes right to the floor. i was advised by the service writer that i needed rear brakes and that is why its doing that. the cost for rear brakes was about 500.00, i declined and told the service writer i had my brakes done several months ago and they should not be in need of repair. he looked into the system and told me only my front brakes were repaired, they just surfaced the rotors and put the same pads back on. i went to the show room asked for a 2011 grand cherokee brought it to the service department and showed them a vehicle with 6000 more miles than mine and two millimeters less pad than mine and the brake pedal was full. *tr

Upon applying emergency brakes, the cable broke and the pedal went to floor. emergency brakes were inoperative after that. the dealer found that metal brackets that attach the front brake cable to the rear brakes cables had rusted and broke. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated excessive force was required when applying the service brakes. the contact stated that recall nhtsa campaign number: 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic) had exceeded the reasonable amount of time for repair. the dealer stated the part was not available for repair. the manufacturer was left a message in regards to the delay. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 56,000.

Upon slowing down at normal deceleration rates, the brakes lost power allowing car to roll through a stop sign. the issue is intermittent and does not exhibit any observable pattern (outside temperature, etc). the dealer first said it was the rotors glazing, but the issue continued after the dealership turned them and the frequency has not reduced. the second visit found no issues after it was again reported. a third party resource indicated that it could be the master cylinder gasket/seal. since this issue does not occur regularly and has not been "observed" by the dealership, the dealership will not replace the part. since it does happen at a rate of only 1-2 times per week, it is tough to compensate for and/or predict when it will occur causing lack of confidence. other notes are that abs does not kick in during the loss of power and the pedal is pushed in as far as possible with the car still moving forward between 5-10mph only decelerating slightly. *tr

Purchased 2011 jeep grand cherokee overland used in summer of 2012. 3rd jeep and have stayed with jeep because felt they were a safe reliable car. shortly after purchase the car would sound like it was "computing" near the engine--while off and key not near car. told this was normal. alarm started to go off for no reason, day time running light on driver side stopped working (not bulb) and started working a few days later on its own. car no start or hard start several times. check engine lights on and off, key not found, etc. 5/19/14 exiting highway at approx. 75 mph (59,000 miles) brakes don't work. car slows but won't stop. no light illuminated for brake problem. it was petrifying. called dealer in morning and they indicated not warranty and not recall so ordered brake booster from dealer and replaced. was without vehicle for several days. 5/28/14 driving approx. 75 on highway--dash lights flash, car shakes and shudders uncontrollably, screen reads service air suspension system and etc code. exit highway car has no suspension. stop make phone call and restart car and no lights, warnings, and suspension back. driving 35 mph on busy city street (in front of school) car dash flashes and goes black--a red lightning bolt appears and the car shuts off while driving. no brakes, power steering, hazard lights, suspension, etc. i was terrified! pushed down accelerator and car starts back up (similar to depressing gas peddle on golf cart). took to dealer and they replaced a brake sensor and the suspension worked. said they could not replicate the car shutting off while driving. tipm must be the cause based on 1000s of owners comment. filed complaint with chrysler today. frightened for my safety and the safety of other cars, people, etc. drive over 100 miles per day on highway. can't obtain tipm part. must use car to work but safety concerns with driving. *tr

Purchased car new 01/2014. intermittent issue of brake pedal not able to depress, therefore unable to stop or slow vehicle for several seconds. this occurs mostly when traveling between 45-70 mph. vehicle has been taken to jeep dealer 4-times for ongoing issue. brake recall has been performed. issue still persists. i feel this car is unsafe to drive due to frequent delayed braking. *tr
