Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

On 1/22/20 i spoke with asma at fca regarding an issue my jeep grand cherokee is having with a fuel relay recall (nhtsa recall number 19v-813). i informed asma that my jeep has stalled without warning several times while driving- several of the times were while i was driving at high speeds on the highway. i was informed by asma that there is not a permanent fix, however because i was experiencing issues, i could take it to my dealership for a temporary fix. on 1/22/20, i took my jeep to the dealership to have the temporary fuel relay part placed on my vehicle. while at the dealership i was warned that since the part is only a temporary fix, they could not estimate how long it would be before i experienced issues again. on saturday, 2/1/20 while making a left turn my jeep once again stalled without warning while in front of oncoming traffic. of note, when the engine stalls while driving it also causing the power steering to go out. so during this particular instance on 2/1/20 when the engine stalled without warning while making a left turn, i was forced to drive up over a curb to avoid getting hit due to vehicle deceleration and loss of power steering. all of this has been determined to be a result of the faulty fuel relay recall. i filed another complaint with tasha at fca recall department on 2/3/20. per tasha, she states that she is going to have a case manager review my case and contact me in 1-3 business days. when i questioned tasha about the saftety of my vehicle, she suggested that i purchase a rental vehicle. when i asked if i would be reimbursed by jeep and/or fca, she stated that i would have to submit a claim for possible reimbursement. i cannot afford to rent a vehicle until this issue until a permanent fix is determined by fca as it could be months. stalling while driving is a huge safety risk.

Vehicle constantly stalls. recall was performed for the fuel pump relay however this did not completely solve the problem as it still stalls randomly or won't start at all. huge safety concern have been almost hit on the road from random stalls. took it to my local mechanics and they say the fuel pump relay is burning out the fuses and i need to constantly check on them to make sure they're not burnt out. took it to brookdale chrysler jeep dodge after recall was performed to complain about it still stalling years ago. brookdale chrysler refused to perform any service as they could not 'duplicate' the issue. ever since then i've been dealing with this issue and it's horrifying to drive the vehicle sometimes and incredibly disappointed as i'm still paying off this vehicle. randomly stalls on turns, city roads, highway speeds, or even when in idle.

My 2001 jeep grand cherokee has a defect on cylinder# 2 apparently there was no recall even though it is a defect. my lights would flicker in drive sitting at a red light, still does, and now the engine is starting to run rough, after more and more research come to find out this is an issue with these jeeps never a recall but there was an extended warranty that was put out by chrysler 10 yrs or 150,000 miles. just found this out a couple of days ago, i have 152,000, so they would not honor their warranty. i have documentation that cylinder 2 was an issue in 2017 i have documentation where my car was diagnosed when it had 95,000 miles at the time it was wasn't a dealership so they wouldn't accept it. its going to cost me around $4,000-$6,000 to get it fixed, not sure why it has to be dealership documentation , i feel that chrysler has been hiding this from consumers to save money and let the consumer take the fall for a defect that they were aware of. why cant this be recalled? regardless of miles, very disgruntled with chrysler for putting out products that have issues, i have taken my jeep to every recall it has had and its been about 5 of them. i love the jeep but the mechanical and electrical of jeep has many issues would not recommend to anyone. how many people have to have these issues in order for it to be recalled?

My battery light came on so i pulled over at an advanced auto and had the battery checked. this was on my way to work. they tested my battery and said the battery that i had just replace 3 months earlier had a bad cell. how is that possible? i had it replaced and then tried to start the vehicle to test the alternator. at that point my alternator started smoking after the vehicle started. they said my alternator wasnt charging enough and it needed replaced. at this point i had to disconnect my battery to stop the alternator from smoking. when i did this, my battery felt unusually hot. got it tested and it blew my battery. i replaced the battery and the alternator and then the starter was not functioning at all. i replaced the starter and there was no change. the starter was not getting any power. as im reading through the complaints section the only two things it could be it seems is the tipm or the pcm. this seems like it should be a major safety concern and should be looked into before someone gets hurt. maybe could be a class action lawsuit on jeep as it should stand behind its product.

I previously reported that this 2011 jeep grand cherokee (3.6 pentastar engine) stalls without warning. the vehicle has stalled at least twice in august, numerous times in september, and already twice this month (october). what is more concerning is there is no check engine light the warns of the pending stall condition. also, i have had the thermostat, lifters, tappets, rocker arms, cylinder head, spark plugs, and ignition coils replaced and problem seems to be getting worse. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (koons tysons corner). the dealer cannot read any active or stored codes for the stalling issue. additionally, the shop foreman advised that it appeared to be the fuel pump. i ordered the $540.00 fuel pump and had replaced on monday october 7, 2019 for an additional $630.00. ironically enough, the vehicle stalled going home and the fuel pump repair did not fix the issue. the mechanic and service advisor now say that i should replace the pcm and then the tipum if all else fails. this is an additional $3,000.00 in estimated service that they cannot guarantee that will fix the issue. the most concerning thing is that chrysler will not be held accountable for this. i have also filed a complaint with fca, whom initially just closed the case. i then filed another one today and requested to speak with a case manager, which is pending (no faith at this point). it should also be noted that fca is aware of this issue as addressed in the recall: chrysler is recalling 188,723 2011 dodge durango and jeep grand cherokee suvs in the u.s. because of a defective fuel-pump relay inside the power module that can cause the vehicles to "stall without warning."

Alternator recall already exists for this 2011 production 8/2010, 3.6 ltr. 160 amp. my battery light is on and dealer said its probably the pcm. quoted 850 for part .my vin doesn't show up on above recall, even though all qualifying criteria is met. why? car will stall when battery is dead. cant be driven at night. disablec vet caregiver.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received a recall notification in the mail for nhtsa campaign number: 19v813000 (electrical system). the contact had not spoken with a local dealer or the manufacturer regarding the recall. the contact stated that her nephew experienced a slight hesitation with the transmission after placing the vehicle into drive. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 119,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.

Purchased 5/19. reported engine stall while driving to nhtsa. took vehicle to dealer for brake recall. tech said air in brake lines may have caused problem. did not stall for a month and assumed solved. started again in august. very dangerous vehicle. stalls when slowing for right hand turns and left turns crossing traffic which almost got me into a crash on a highway. others have reported same issue and no response from manufacturer. cannot take passengers as this is a pending disaster and is unsafe

Vehicle is making a popping noise, when turning or hitting bump replaced sway bar end links and tie rod-unable to locate exact problem at this time. i was driving today and without warning my front wipers turned on and could not be turned off, on inspecting further all components on the starting wheel and column are not operatable-no signals, cruise, headlights, stereo-nothing. vehicle acts like its stuck in 4x4-making other noise while turning also having issue with dash board bubbling-possible safety concern as it may interfere with air bag deployment. i have contacted jeep with all the above concerns, to which they state they cannot help with the problems vehicle has 103k miles. i am 3rd owner. *tt 'parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'*jb

The battery light came on as i was driving home the other day (it happened while the vehicle was in motion), so i called the repair shop. the manager said that it meant my battery was not receiving a charge and to drive it straight in, so i did. he and i both smelled smoke from my vehicle when i arrived (approximately 15 minutes after the battery light came on). upon inspection, he said that my alternator had shorted out and had singe marks inside and it had also overheated my battery. i am very concerned that it could have caught my car on fire (and the manager of the repair shop verified that it could have), especially since the battery connection is under the passenger seat inside the vehicle. he said the yellow discoloration (see photo, attached) was from overheating/singe marks. he and i could also both smell smoke from the alternator after it was removed from the vehicle, so it was definitely the cause of the smoke and smell (although my battery may have been smoking as well according to the repair shop manager). i do not believe that the alternator (and possibly the battery as well as a result) should have started smoking as this could have resulted in serious injuries and/or death.

While driving on 376-e in pittsburgh for about 20 minutes at about 50-mph, i smelled an electrical burning odor. the engine coolant temperature repeatedly fluctuated between 198-250 degrees. at times engine and battery warning lights would come on, but turn off as temperature went below 230 degrees. i exited the highway pulled over in a high traffic area near my home when i saw smoke coming from under the right front side of my hood. upon opening the hood, volumes of smoke came out. and, there appeared to be a small fire inside the alternator. i poured 3 bottles of water on the very hot alternator to put out the fire. i called aaa for a tow, but after 20 minutes the alternator stopped smoking. there is a goodyear repair shop a block away-- the jeep started, so i drove it there. and, canceled aaa. the goodyear concurred that the alternator was totally fried, so i had them replace it--($700, will provide receipt if you require it). after replacing it the jeep would not start. i called aaa again, and had them tow it to my jeep dealership. told them of the incident. now they are saying i need to replace the powertrain engine control module--($1,000), that shorted out the result of the alternator failure. i need my jeep for work, they are replacing the ptcm on monday. i've seen alternator recalls for some 2011-2012 jeep grand cherokees and wranglers. i believe my jeep gc should be included--#t36 and #p60.

The fuel pump relay is defective. this has already been recalled but the patch "fix" jeep does does not solve the problem completely and they know this. there is an issue with the computer which does not send correct signal to fuel pump. on start car will not start often because it is not receiving any fuel. i am afraid this cheap "fix" jeep came up with will cause the fuel to go out while driving. the biggest defect with the car is the v-8 hemi cam shaft and lifters. every mechanic i have taken my car too has said that jeep knows it is a problem but will not fix. i was driving 70 mph when my jeep lost power and the check engine light came on and started flashing which with the loss of power cause me to just about have a wreck on the highway. it was a very scary scenario. i took it to my trusted mechanic who foudn a cylinder 2 misfire & performed a tune up and he said i needed to report the problem to jeep as they are known to have sever problems. the dealer charged me to "diganose" the problem and reported back that the lifters and cam shaft need to be replaced. this has been such a bad problem for jeep the lifters have been on back order multiple times but they will not admit it is a problem. my car has less than 100,000 miles and has been meticulously maintained and now lookin g at rebuilding an engine and jeep will only provide 2 year warranty or the work, which shows they have no trust in the fix and there is a fatal flaw with the v-8 hemi. please force jeep to honor their customers and correct the known mistakes with their engines.

Complete shut down: doors locked, all electrical lights flashing, no steering, or braking, no warning . battery light came one than the system started shutting down, while i was driving trying to enter i-25 from the feeder road in walsenburg, co. had the jeep towed to toyota dealer in trinidad co who stated the alternator had gone bad, causing the complete shut down as well as frying components in the electrical system. at this point it is costing $800.00 plus the other components. this is the same systems that is in the chrysler recall p60/nhtsa 14v-634 . i want to know if my jeep is covered under this recall.

Stalls at normal operating speeds without warning. very dangerous! has happend multiple times!!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle lost all power, including the key fob, power doors and locks, and windows. the vehicle was driven to northside chrysler jeep (812 northside dr, summersville, wv 26651(304) 712-2063) where the mechanics stated that they would not service the vehicle. the vin was not included in a recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was 127,009.

Battery light on for a few seconds and system stop working few minutes later and battery lost it charge completely and will not hold energy. bad alternator, can not move vehicle. waiting to be fix.

Locks keep unlocking and windows keep going down randomly

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and the battery warning indicator illuminated. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. the vehicle was towed to autocentro chrysler jeep dodge (barrio bairoa, industrial park, km 3.2, caguas, pr 00725) where it was diagnosed that the alternator and the electronic control module failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

The engine stops running without warning or notice. not even a check engine light. the jeep stalls without any electrical symptoms but the steering, engine, and braking systems fail. only happens when decelerating. doesn't happen every deceleration. i've been lucky to have been going in a straight line toward a stop. normally under a half tank of gas but even that is not reliable. if you search the internet for "jeep grand cherokee engine shuts down while driving" you'll find a pretty robust collection of stories where consumers like me unwittingly paid many thousands of dollars for a car that is trying to kill them. you're answer to the tipm recall (the fuel pump circuit breaker? the first half-ass attempt by crysler to troubleshoot this nightmare) says "the factual bases of the petitioner's contentions that any further investigation is necessary are unsupported" which i found hilarious since i am still making payments on a vehicle with an obvious manufacture's defect that the entire internet cannot find a standard solution to other than to sell the vehicle off to another unsuspecting victim.

Driving to work i 95 north when my car loses electrical power. just bought it. didn't know jeep had defective power systems. able to cruise to slow lane in neutral and started to pray the push button start will work. it did on the second push.

2011 jeep grand cherokee shuts off while driving. power steering, engine control and braking all become difficult to use. happening while turning causes the vehicle to veer into the guard rails, if they are present, or oncoming traffic, if turning away from traffic is too difficult. luckily, in the multiple times this happened, i was turning right, either onto the highway onramp or into a gas station. the times into the gas station, sent me over the curb and grass, barely missing the pumps. the vehicle shows no signs of an error on the dash. all radio, lights and gauges work fine. once you are able to stop the vehicle, it must be put into park and the push button start re-ignited. it terrified my family.

2011 jeep grand cherokee laredo. consumer writes seeking reimbursements for repairs done related to safety recalls. *ld the consumer referenced safety recall p60/ nhtsa 14v-634 as the cause of the vehicle's failure. the dealer declined to reimburse the consumer for the repairs. the manufacturer was notified. *js

My dashboard bubbled up on passenger side, fake wood trim under dash fell off, alternator failed fried battery and computer, quadra2 suspension failing , this all at 82000 miles and after multiple recalls. i paid $40 k .im at shop now with suspension 24 hrs after paying 1200. & jeep in shop 8 days. the alternator failed a wk before 3.4.2019. dashboard and trim occurred after warranty expired

All lights began randomly flashing, wipers went on at varying speeds, power seats were moving, transmission was shifting gears inappropriately. when this started i was about 3 miles from home. the vehicle stalled three times and was harder to start after each stall. upon arriving home and shutting the engine off, the lights continued to flash until the battery died. fortunately, i was not on a busy highway when this occurred. this has been happening for thr past week now i called the dealership they keep telling me that are backup for this week. and now today my jeep wont even turn on with a jumper cables, i called the dealership they finally said that they are sending a tow truck to my house.

Stop at a gas station went to start vehicle would not start made some clicking noises open the hood smoke coming from the alternator ,alternator was extremely hot had vehicle towed come to find out alternator went to ground burned up the computer in the vehicle. was told 2011 models have been recalled for alternators doing this very thing, dealer told me there was no recall on my vehicle for the alternator but other 2011's have been recalled for the alternator. my mechanic said the vehicle could've started on fire from it going to ground the way it did. was at the gas pump could've turned into a major issue at a gas station. vehicle is still at the shop have in the computer replaced today no documentation on it yet

I was driving down the freeway at around 6:40am in the dark when sensors in my vehicle started flickering on/off, then the ambient lights inside the vehicle started flickering on/off before shutting off, then the stereo went out, then the headlights shut off, and then the entire vehicle shut off. there was no warning light that the battery was low before all of this happened. the repair shop the car was towed to said the battery was dead and wouldn't hold a charge. when they tested the alternator after replacing the batter, it was found to have zero output.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off and could not be restarted. the vehicle was towed to tri-star jeep chrysler (1260 n center ave, somerset, pa 15501, pa) where it was diagnosed that the alternator was faulty and needed to be replaced. the alternator, battery, and power train control module were replaced. the failure was remedied. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 166,000.

I started the jeep up in my driveway and noticed a whining sound that changed with engine rpms. there were no lights or warnings on the dash to indicate a failure of any components. i only had to run to the store 4 miles away and thought i would look at it when i returned home. once i got to the store, i smelt an electrical burning smell and saw smoke coming from under the hood. when i raised the hood, the alternator was producing a significant amount of smoke. i was concerned my vehicle was about to catch fire. i had some one bring me some tools so i could disconnect the battery. once the battery was disconnected, i located a replacement alternator ($400) locally at a parts store as it was a sunday evening and no dealers were open. i was able to replace the alternator in the store parking lot. i drove the vehicle home with no problems, but when i opened the hood to ensure all was good with the new alternator, it was once again so hot i could not touch it. there was no smoke as of yet, but it does seem that there is still an issue that caused the original alternator to catch fire. i am sure the new alternator will also be damaged if the jeep is driven any more. currently i am forced to leave my jeep parked until i can ensure i have an emergency back up available. the jeep does act normal now the alternator is changed out, and everything seems to be working as normal. i am just concerned the new alternator may fail again and cause a fire in my jeep. now i am scared to drive the vehicle for my normal commute. the jeep only has 70,000 miles on it and has never had any other issues since i have owned it. i have seen this issue many time is searches online and feel that there are underlying causes that can result in vehicle failure and possible fires. extremely unsafe to operate in this condition.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled. when the vehicle was shifted into neutral and restarted, it resumed normal operation. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was previously included in an unknown recall regarding the reprogramming of the power train control module. the vehicle was repaired per the manufacturer's recall; however, the failure recurred. additionally, while driving on several occasions, the service 4 wheel drive and traction control warning indicators illuminated. john sullivan chrysler dodge (950 harter pkwy, yuba city, ca 95993, 855-580-5113) was contacted by phone and stated that the parts were not available for nhtsa campaign number: 19v813000 (electrical system). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 71748777. the approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

When the vehicle in is motion and coming to a stop, the engine will stall. i have to stop the vehicle without any power steering or brakes before i can restart, which is extremely dangerous in normal traffic conditions. there have been a recall for the fuel pump relay. that recall has been performed twice. i still have the engine stall problem. jeep is aware of the issue and seems unwilling to replace the ticm to fix this issue. the fuel pump relay appears to bypass the ticm.

Purchased vehicle 12-15-18. since then, the vehicle has stalled intermittently (3 times in 2 weeks) at stops without any lights appearing on instrument panel. the first time, i wasn't even aware the engine cut out until i pressed on the accelerator and nothing happened. the vehicle starts back up, but will not go into gear immediately. in one instance, it took about 5 seconds to go into gear. brought vehicle to dealer where purchased (pauly toyota- crystal lake, il.) who recommended bringing it to a jeep dealership. brought to crystal lake, il crysler jeep dodge who could not diagnose problem as no faults appeared under test. fluids were clean, and at proper levels. was told to drive vehicle until condition reappeared, and it would be reinvestigated. this is similar to other complaints about this vehicle type stalling, except that so far, it has only happened when the vehicle is at a stop in traffic.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the high beam headlights remained illuminated. in addition, the power locks were inoperable and the power outlet failed. an independent mechanic noticed that a wire attached to the totally integrated power module (tipm) had burned out. the contact took the vehicle to dick scott chrysler dodge jeep ram plymouth (located at 684 w ann arbor rd, plymouth, mi 48170, 734-259-2023) who stated that the tipm needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact stated that the failure was related to an unknown recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that despite the vehicle matching the criteria of the vehicle's included in the recall, the vin was not included. the contact was referred to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 156,000.

My jeep is having the same problems as other jeeps that were recalled for fuel pump relay issues but mine is not recalled. my vehicle turns over and eventually times out. and i can hear the fuel pump running when i turn the engine off and pull the key out. other cars shut down while driving with this issue and i dont want to wait until that happens to get this fixed

We have had problems with this car for a couple of years. we have had to replace the computer, alternator, battery, and now the tipm. this car almost caught on fire once before due to the faulty computer system. now with the tipm malfunctioning, the car wouldn't start. the battery discharged so we would take it to get charged, the car would work for a couple of weeks then it would happen again. this last time, the car never restarted. we had the vehicle towed to the local dealership and were told that it was a faulty tipm. jeep cherokees 2012-2014 are recalled for this!! why aren't the 2011s?

This is the worse vehicle i have ever bought! never again! i been stranded several times. as soon as i get a jump and bring it to have it checked the mechanic states nothing is wrong with the alternator or the battery. no codes pop up as anything is wrong. i've been in a life threatening situation where my car stalled while i was driving on a main road. the only way i could get the car to work was to turn it off and start it again. then it was fine. i called the dealership and they said they haven't heard of anything as far as recalls. that has happened at least 3 times. another problem that i have experienced was the car accelerating on its on. i called the dealership and they were not concerned. and another problem is my passenger side window all of a sudden would get stuck. ive had problems from day one and the dealership acts like it is no concern. as i read majority of complain is falling to electrical problems, especially with the tipm but nothing is getting done about it. i constantly check this site to see if the government is going to protect the consumers by forcing more recalls on electrical or tipm boards, but they are not doing anything about it. what is it going to take, many lives taken away over it????

Alternator diodes experienced rapid failure disabling the vehicle while driving on city streets. previous recall for 2012-2014 models for same reason p60/nhtsa 14v-634. we had the alternator diagnosed by upex auto supply in dallas texas and they confirmed the diode failure. additional electrical issues ensued which are yet to be determined after the alternator was replaced.
