Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic), nhtsa campaign number: 14v391000 (electrical system) and nhtsa campaign number: 14v530000 (fuel propulsion system). however, the parts needed were not available. the dealer did not provide a specific date when the parts would become available. the manufacturer was contacted and could not provide an estimated date for when the vehicle would receive the recall repairs. the contact was not experiencing a failure.

My 2011 jeep grand cherokee finally stopped on september 2, 2013. i had to have it towed to the nearest jeep dealership. after three weeks of it not wanting to start and leaving me stranded several times i was forced to buy a new battery only for it to do the same thing. today it was diagnosed as having a bad tipm. but that's not the bad part, a tipm is $1200.00 and it is on back order indefinitely! looked it up online today and found hundreds of people waiting for the same tipm part. this item should be recalled by jeep and repaired for no charge since it also controls the airbags. jeep needs to fix this problem immediately. in the meantime, i, along with several other hundred people, have a 2 year old car that is just sitting at a dealership and we are not able to get fixed. *jb

During the summer i was having trouble starting my jeep. by 8/26/2013 it would not start at all. i scheduled an appointment at the local jeep dealer to fix the problem. i took the jeep in at the first available time, 9/9/2013. within two days they diagnosed the problem as being the tipm unit. they told me that the unit was not available and could not give me a time when the unit would be available. the service person at the dealership told me to contact jeep directly regarding the part. i was also told that the repair cost for the tipm unit would cost me $1,050. when i contacted a jeep customer service representative on 9/13/2013 i was told the part was on extreme backorder and it would not be a warranty item. the defective part came into the dealership on approximately 10/18/2013. i was without a running vehicle for 7 weeks. the dealership and jeep said that because i was outside my warranty on mileage only that they would not warranty the part. the warranty for the vehicle is a 3 year/36,000 mile. the mileage on the vehicle is 68,491. so i am over the warranty on mileage but under the warranty for years. in talking with the service reps they told me that this problem has occurred in cars well under the 36,000 mile threshold and they covered the part under warranty. the problem with the part is not a result of mileage, but a result of poor designed or bad manufacturing and should be covered under the warranty of the vehicle. *tr

My vehicle would not crank and stalls. battery replaced, $179.00 later.mechanic told me that it had updates and reflashed those for $50.00 and advised me to take back to the dealership for an integrated module. after service evaluated my jeep, i was told that the problem existed in the tipm. this product is on at least a 6 week back order and that is not a guarantee. also, there have been no recalls on this product. i have a busy commute to work in heavy traffic. my jeep stalled on the interstate and i had to veer toward the ditch to avoid an accident. if i were hit, would my airbags even deploy? this is a safety violation! *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. the contact attempted to start the vehicle several times before it finally did so. the contact also mentioned that the battery was being drained so the fuel pump fuse had to be disconnected. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the passive entry module needed to be flashed. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that the total integrated programming module needed to be repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 36,000.

Car will not start or operate at all due to a bad tipm , this problem is now wide spread through the nation with jeep / chrysler customers. my jeep will be at the dealer ship for about 3 weeks waiting for the back ordered tipm to come in. *tr

at first would not get any response when the start button was depressed, this would happen mostly in the morning and few times during the day (changes out the batteries in the handsets twice and of course blamed the wife that it was her!!!). this past few weeks (since sept.) the engine will crank for a few seconds but will not start, this is mostly in the morning but has happened to my wife during the day. it has now started to leave here stranded and once 'die' on her on the hwy!!! i drove the gc to our dealer ( had to rent a car to get back home) and after a $110 service charge was 'informed' that it would need to have the tipm replaced at a cost of over $1300. and would have to wait 6-8 weeks as the tipm is on back order nation wide because of so many failures!!!!! the technician stated they have 24 on backorder. and if i had an issue to call chrysler!!! this is clearly a wide spread defective critical component (tipm) that can fail at anytime (multiple times!!!) and dangerous if it fails on the road. *tr

While driving my 2011 jeep grand cherokee i saw white smoke coming from the driver side sun visor and then a burning smell. i pulled over and after a few minutes the smoke cleared, the bracket for sun visor stayed hot and shows signs of melting. no injuries, the vehicle was driven to dealership immediately. *tr.. updated 08-20-14 *bf updated 08/25/2014 *js

2011 jeep grand cherokee tipm. engine wont start. have seen nothing but complaints online.something needs to be done. *tr

The tipm, a part of the computer, has failed and the vehicle will no longer start. vehicles have also been known to stall, although this did not happen to me. chrysler has failed to recall despite hundreds of issues. my small dealer in greensboro, nc has 4 vehicles with this issues. there are no parts available, and they are giving no estimate on when parts will be available. so far chrysler has failed to recognize the widespread nature of the incident, despite hundreds of online posts by owners, and my dealers recognition of multiple vehicles in their shop for this issue. *js

Forum after forum of the same issues are happening to make and model. users are unable to start car because of tipm issue. apparently people have even lost power to car while driving. the tipm is also connected with air bag deployment and it will not deploy should the car lose power and hit anything. most people cannot even afford to replace the 1200 issue. this should be a national recall or expect many accidents caused by this for those that are lucky enough to finally get the car started. *tr

I have a 2011 jeep grand cherokee that has a defective part called a tipm (totally integrated power module). it downloads data and is part of the onboard computer and specialized for each vehicle. *tt my defective tipm causes the vehicle to stall and eventually it will prevent it from starting. the tipm is covered under my extended warranty, but the part is on national backorder and chrysler is unable to get it from the manufacturer (at least that's what they tell us). i have read on some message boards that they do not have the rights to produce the tipm themselves and that the company that makes it is going bankrupt and closing. it is also likely that whoever makes it is in another country (they will not tell us where). chrysler is treating people differently - those without warranties are completely out of luck. they have no working/safe/reliable vehicle and have to pay for the repair, but since the part is not available, no luck and no transportation. those of us with warranties are told different lies. they give us a date that is a month or two away, then when that comes around, they change the date. we have the added "bonus" of being in jeopardy each and every time we drive somewhere and not knowing if we will be stranded or not. there are at least several hundred people having this problem, and according to one post i read on edmunds.com, the chrysler case manager told someone that 25,000 of these were needed. chrysler is well aware of this defect, but they refuse to do a recall and so far they have not provided me with a rental car. they claim that they will, but then play the phone game, where chrysler usa, cannot reach the service manager at the local dealership, who cannot reach the rental department and so on.

2011 jeep grand cherokee suddenly failed to start reliably. especially after sitting overnight, it would take multiple attempts to start. initially, the jeep dealership service department failed to diagnose the problem. eventually after dealing with this "fail to start" situation for a month, the dealer diagnosed that the totally integrated power module (tipm) needed to be replaced. the problem began just days after the warranty expired. replacement part needed to be paid for up-front ($932.40) through the dealership. 33 days later, the part still has not arrived and vehicle continues to be unreliable. *tr

I would like to place a formal compliant against chrysler group, llc. my family along with hundreds, if not thousands of other 2011 jeep grand cherokee owners. this issue is around the tipm device that seems to be failing on many consumer's vehicle dating back to the early part of 2013. finally, after a couple to trips to the service department for this issue, i was finally told the part is on back order. the problem is the dealer, nor the chrysler group doesn't have an idea when this part will be available leaving many of us without a car for an undetermined amount of time. this part (tipm) needs to be placed on official recall by the corporation and until it actually is.........it has placed undue financial strain of many of the owners of the jeep. we are expected by the banks to continue paying our car note, along with insurance. now chrsyler is saying that we must also come out of pocket for rentals to replace the vehicles we have and or paying for until they resolve this issue. this is so not right on so many levels and apparently they can get away with this without recourse. in conclusion, just asking the justice department to look into this issue and assist us consumers being held hostage by chrysler group, llc. *tt

2011 jeep cherokee showing symptoms of same wide spread problem with starting issue. vehicle cranks over but does not start. must attempt numerous times until started. while driving, if vehicle dies all loss of power steering and brakes is lost and is a huge safety concern. my vehicle has 40k+ miles and problem seems to be pervasive problem throughout model year. *tr

Multiple issues. it began with the key less remote entry not working properly, not opening or locking the car. i then began to notice the car would unlock itself overnight (luckily it is kept in a garage). moving forward, when i would put the key in the ignition, the car would start, i would then put the car in reverse, and it would immediately shut off, all power gone. i would have to slam the car into park and try again. most recently, i will put the key in the ignition and turn the car on, unfortunately, the car never turns on, it idles in the ignition phase just before it turns on. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee 4x4. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. the contact attempted to start the vehicle several times before the engine engaged. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the total integrated power module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 57,000.

My 2011 grand cherokee has been in the shop for 11 weeks waiting on a part.the part is a tipm. without this part jeep doesn't start. people at dealership where i purchased jeep treat my daughter the owner like it is our fault. *jb

National problem! trouble starting vehicle - bad tipm. many reports of other jeep and chryslers have the same issue with this batch of bad parts. log onto any jeep forum and look around! took 25 minutes to get the tipm to start up the engine. starting trouble went away for a couple of days but is increasingly getting worse. the problem is now effecting about every third start up and has made me miss a job interview because of the lack of reliability. took the jeep to the dealer, they installed all the flash updates for the tipm - no difference after the flashes were installed. dealer said that i needed a new tipm. the crappy problem is that the part is on a 3 month back order! they are not wanting to cover this under warranty (under 3 years / over 36,000 miles) but i placed a complaint with chrysler customer service to both expedite the part and get it covered under warranty. when i called the chrysler customer servicer line, i was told that i was her second tipm issue this morning! i was told the tipm would cost me $1,000.....even if you could order the part! drove vehicle home, because i could not afford a rental car for and unspecified amount of time, and have had issues every day. last week, the jeep stalled while i was doing 45 mph on a city road. was able to coast to the shoulder with no incident, but it took about 15 minutes of continuous trial to get the vehicle started again. i will not take my wife and kids in the jeep with me until this issue is resolved. *tr

My jeep failed to start on the first 4 attempts. this was one of the many times it has failed to start. my service tech told me it needs a tipm, total integrated power module and that they are know by jeep to be defective and jeep needs to recall these before there are anymore accidents. i was also told it will take weeks for a replacement tipm due to the demand of the bad ones being replaced. i was also told this is around a $1300 repair. i bought a extra 5 years warranty and now need to get a rental and have it fixed before it leaves me stranded along the road. *tr

Beginning the evening of july 30, i experienced issues with starting my grand cherokee. these issues were sporadic, however once every three or four times i attempted to start the engine, the engine would crank but fail to start. on july 31, i scheduled an appointment with my local jeep dealership (videon chrysler dodge jeep in newtown square, pa) for august 5. by august 2, the jeep was not drivable as starting it would take 20-30 minutes each time. i was forced to rent a car at my own expense for the weekend of august 3-4. on august 5 the dealership diagnosed the issue as pertaining to tsb 08-053-11 and reprogrammed the totally integrated power module. on august 7, i experienced the no start issue again and scheduled a second appointment with the dealership for august 8. on august 8, the tipm was identified as needing to be replaced. i was informed by the dealership that the necessary part was on backorder with an estimated arrival time of within ?a few weeks?. the dealership advised that it was ok for me to continue driving the vehicle in the meantime despite the issue. on the evening of august 16, while driving the vehicle at a speed of approximately 40 miles per hour, the engine stalled, causing the vehicle to lose all power near the intersection [xxx] given the nature of the road as well as the traffic around me, this situation posed a serious safety hazard to myself, my passenger, and others near my vehicle, and since that point i no longer feel safe operating the vehicle in its current condition. as such, i have been entirely unable to operate this vehicle since august 16. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) *tt

Jeep grand cherokee started having a slight miss in early july. then jeep would not start. waited 2 minutes then jeep started. had jeep serviced including new spark plugs from chrysler. still had miss at idle. drove jeep from northern california to southern california. still had miss. sitting in heavy traffic jeep stalled and caused a traffic backup. waited for a couple of minutes then jeep started.took jeep to the jeep dealer in aug. dealer did software upgrade. still had rough idle and hard to start. took jeep in again. they said to order a tipm. dealer said it would be at least several weeks to get the part and to park the jeep due to the stalling out situation. wrote an email to the jeep ceo. jeep responded. the tipm was replaced in early sept. stalling is gone but the rough idle is now back. this issues could be very dangerous. considering how jeeps are used (off road, long trips) one could easily be stranded or worse. given the number of complaints and the long period of time to get a part it would seem like a recall is in order. it appears that the part is no longer manufactured due to a bankruptcy of the oem. there are thousands of us having this problem and we need help! *tr

I tried to start my jeep grand cherokee 2011 with the push start and it turned over but would not crank. i finally got it crank after several tries and waiting five minutes. i have since experienced intermittent problems starting my jeep each morning or after it sits for more than four hours. in the past week i have experienced difficulty starting everyday. it getting harder to start. i read online that a lot of people are having the same problem and someone recommended using the remote start button to start your vehicle. that is the only way i have been successful getting my jeep cranked each day. i took my vehicle to the jeep dealership and they said i need a tipm and it is not covered under warranty. i am a female nurse who drives my car for a living and i do not feel safe in my vehicle. i go in unsafe areas for my job and it is not a good feeling worry if my jeep start. it is going to cost over 1200.00 to get my car repaired and part is on back order. i worry everyday that i will get stranded and this is suppose to be an award winning suv. please help me!

Went to start my jeep after it sat for a few hours and noticed extended cranking. it did fire up and i drove 65 miles to the gym. same extended cranking issue when i got out the gym an hour later, but eventually, started and i made it home. did this one more time few days later and the first monday in august it wouldn't start when i went to leave for work in the morning. took my wife's vehicle o work and she tried it a few hours later and it fired right up. brought to local shop to have them look at it since they can service my extended warranty. after a few days there i was notified that it was he tipm and the part we on order, but was on national back order from jeep and i was number 141 in line waiting for one. as of today, 9/3/14, still no part and still no estimated delivery of said tipm. i have not been able to drive the jeep since then because it is unreliable transportation and my job requires me to travel up to 300 miles per day. have now made two payments on a vehicle i can't use. *jb

I have a 2011 jeep grand cherokee, and was experiencing the same cold start issues i drove it for about another 2 weeks and on one trip i drove about an hour out of town and had to run into a bank. when i got back in my car i started it and died right in the middle of the driveway i was exiting. took 30 minutes for it to restart. the paperwork says they replaced the win (wireless ignition node). 11 days in the shop. the next morning i went out to go to work and the car would not start. called dealership told me to bring it back up. i did the next day, this time getting a dodge dart from the rental company 8 days in the shop when i received a call that it was ready, this time they replaced the ignition module and gave me a new remote key. the next day aug 8th went to go to work and the car wouldn't start. half hour later got the car started and back to dealership, this time i received a nissan versa rental. they have had it ever since 14 days and counting. i talk to service department on thursday august 15th. and they told me they got it not to start and that it was the fuel injectors, i interjected and told him about this forum and to check the tipm and they just released 2000 from the factory on the 13th. said he would speak with technician and get back to me. called me friday and said they were replacing the tipm and he would have a better idea on a time frame by the middle of this week. i called today and they are telling me that its back ordered to sept. not giving me any specifics of when in sept. the service manager gave me chrysler number to call and complain.this is a serious issue with many individuals effected it needs to be looked into as a recall issue. what happens if the company in mexico who makes the part goes out of business. this is wrong especially for a taxpayers bailout company.. *tt

2011 jeep grand cherokee. i have been waiting since july for tipm replacement . (went out @ 17,000 miles) vehicle difficult to start. was told by dealership to keep trying to drive until the part became available. however, during this time the vehicle started stalling in traffic and while driving, making this a very unsafe situation! car is parked now and dealer estimates 4-6 wks until tipm will become available due to backorder. *tr

Jeep turns off when i am driving it. this has been an ongoing problem for several years and i have explained the problem to jeep repair shop on 2 occasions now, yet the problem continues. recently chrysler recalled the fuel pump relay and stated it could cause stalling while driving. i have had the recall work performed however my car has stalled while driving it since the repair was completed. this is dangerous as the car turns off while it is moving. once off, the power steering no longer works making it nearly impossible to turn the car until it is restarted. many of the times this has happened have been on a freeway offramp while decelerating. i have been very lucky so far that none of them resulting in accidents yet. this problem needs to be fixed as it is dangerous. im not sure of the exact date when it started (i guessed above) but it has been several years

This issue has to do with the totally integrated power module (tipm) used in jeep and other makes. this part is responsible for a lot of the power switching/modulation/distribution, and communications with other systems in the electrical system. there are numerous complaints online regarding this part that is on national backorder. our car has been out of service sitting at a jeep dealer since july with no estimate from chrysler of when the part might be available. there has been no talk of a recall at this point. the part almost always goes bad after the warranty has lapsed and costs anywhere from $900 - $1400 depending on the dealership, etc. once it goes, the car is rendered useless. we spent $2,000 at a mechanic who thought it was the fuel pump and an additional $1000+ on a rental car before the car was towed to the dealer. we are unable to only have one car, so we have now bought a third car. fortunately we are in a position to do this. many people are unable to afford even a rental. the safety issue comes into play because the car may jsut stop while you are driving. this did happen to ours once, but it was before there was an obvious problem and the car worked fine after the incident so we never looked into it. there is also the issue that sometimes it may start, but if you turn the car off it may not start the next time possibly stranding the driver who knows where. at this point people would just like this issue acknowledged and investigated.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that after numerous attempts the ignition started. the failure was intermittent and became progressively worse over a period. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the totally integrated control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 36,000. the vin was unavailable.

I bought my 2011 jeep grand cherokee, brand new... literally 0 miles on it. beginning at just shy of 36,000 miles it began to intermittently have cranking and starting issues. every time i would take it to the service center at the dealership, they could never get the problem to "replicate." after several diagnostic tests costing $104.86 each, they found nothing. when the vehicle reached 38,902 miles, and after the problem became more recurrent the dealership had me to replace my key fob battery and update the software in my pcm & wcm. ($170.00) the problem didn't subside, and i was left to deal with the problem which occurred at most inopportune times, but only intermittently... until yesterday. after approximately a dozen+ attempts to get the jeep to crank and start, i took to youtube (http://youtu.be/27xkm0faiwi) where i found that i was not alone. not only am i not alone, i now realize what a systemic problem this is and that jeep/ chrysler/ dodge must certainly be aware of it. i took my jeep into my local tampa, fl. dealer today fully expecting to get the run-around, and for the first time they didn't disappoint... just as suspected they passed the buck. they charged me another $104.86 for a "diagnostic test" (which i already had informed them of what they'd find)! they then quickly handed me a repair quote of $1,300+ tax. i called chrysler's customer assistance center (1-800-992-1997) and i spoke with a representative who basically after a 30 minute conversation of explaining my situation stated that if i would have caught the undiagnosed issue at 36,000 miles and while it was under warranty, it'd would have been covered. so essentially all that could be done was for me to leave my jeep with them for who knows how long and pay the assessed fee. she then added that i could file a complaint with the n.h.t.s.a (1-888-327-4236) to which i did. *tr

Engine starts after key fob is bumped. my garage is inside my house. we could die from carbom monoxide poising reported to dealership they said nothing could be done.maybe my attorney can do something. *tr

It all started with what we thought was a bad key fob. after about 3 trips to the dealer they finally suggested that we replace the key fob. that seemed to take care of the problem for a little while then it progressed to not starting on the 1st, 2nd, and sometimes 3rd try. it just kept getting worse until it might take up to 10 tries before it would fire up . then it got to when it would start it would immediately die. about 3 weeks ago my wife was leaving the driveway of our house and the thing just quit while she was going through the gate. i'm just thankful that she wasn't on the highway at speed when it happened as she had our young son with her as well. about 2 days later the battery was dead when my wife got in to leave work. as i was away from home working and she needed a vehicle she took it back to the dealer (don marshall chrysler in somerset,ky.) where they proceeded to install a new battery at the rip-off price of over $300.00!! about a week later i figured out why the battery had went dead so quickly. i drove it to my in-laws house and when i got out of it i heard the fuel pump continuing to run even after the engine had been shut off. my wife apparently hadn't noticed the sound of the fuel pump running when she had parked it that morning to go in to work and it had ran all day until it killed the battery. had it at the dealer yesterday (not rip-off don marshall chrysler) and they diagnosed it as a faulty fuel pump relay switch. (duh) i told them what it was before we took it to them. they said that until they could get the part to fix it with that i could just tap on top of the tipm to get the fuel pump to shut off.( i had been taking the battery cable off to get it to stop.) when we got it home, sure enough, i tapped the tipm and it immediately shut the fuel pump off. well guess what? yep......the [xxx] thing wouldn't start at all this morning!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 ...

After having occasional difficulties starting the car, my problems finally reached a climax when my car shut off mid-drive. jeep has explained that i have faulty tipm. i have found through online research that this is very common. these failures have been occurring for years, yet jeep still installs these same tipms. i understand there is a pending class action lawsuit, suggesting that jeep has known about this problem and ignored it, rather than implementing a recall. *tr

Tl* the contact own a 2011 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer three different times for diagnosis. the technicians performed a flash update and replaced the win module. the failure continued after the repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 36,450.

This vehicle is equipped with a adaptive speed sensor that keeps the vehicle at a preset distance from the vehicle in front with cruise control on. vehicle is also equipped with a forward collision warning system which warns the driver to brake if it senses an approach of an object that is unsafe. the problems: the system will shut it self off, flashing a warning that the forward collision warning system is not working and shuts off the cruise control as well. system always resets itself after minutes, or longer and the cruise control will once again, work. safety issue the system has the ability to brake on its own if it senses you are approaching a vehicle too fast with cruise control engaged. the problem is that a car may turn off in a separate lane to decelerate or be in a separate lane to accelerate and the sensor thinks the car is in front of it and starts braking severely cause it thinks it is in its path. this is a huge safety concern since any driver behind me would not be expecting me to brake when cars are not in my path. the vehicle has been to jeep dealer for numerous attempts to fix it. right now chrysler is not doing anything about it. according to the repairing dealership, if chrysler did decide to replace the part, its on back order. *tr

2011 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regards to vehicle stalled then turned off while driving. *smd the consumer stated when the vehicle stalled, it became impossible to the steer the vehicle, the brakes did not respond, the headlights went out, they blinkers did not work and the dashboard was dark. the only display on the sash was the radio/navigation display and the center console text indicating how to start the vehicle. the consumer tried pressing the brake and the start button, but nothing happened. when she slowed down enough, she pushed the transmission lever hard into park, hoping to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the service technician determined the remote keyless entry module was not communicating correctly with the other modules associated with operating the vehicle correctly. an update was performed on the modules, including the remote keyless entry module. however, the technician could not guarantee that it wouldn't happen again. on january 9, 2013, a similar symptom occurred again. when the consumer pushed the ignition button, the vehicle started, but it only lasted for a moment. it then shut down and the center console text displayed on how to start the vehicle. the consumer then pressed the brake and the push button and the vehicle started again, but shut down minutes later. when the key fob was physically placed in the ignition location, the vehicle started without any problems. *jb

I purchased the vehicle pre-owned with 28,000 mi on it and a year old, after a month of having it, the car would continue to have difficulty starting. brought to dealer they couldn't diagnose. by the 3rd time they replaced starter. car still had problems. now a year later and out of warranty it is still occurring (especially when it is cold).. brought back to jeep and they now say it is the tipm and will be $1000 to fix. eventhough this was there 3x under warranty they will not cover cost. this seems to be a major issue since part is on back order for approx 2 months and there are 100s and 100s of posts about this. *tr

Purchased 2011 jeep grand cherokee overland used in summer of 2012. 3rd jeep and have stayed with jeep because felt they were a safe reliable car. shortly after purchase the car would sound like it was "computing" near the engine--while off and key not near car. told this was normal. alarm started to go off for no reason, day time running light on driver side stopped working (not bulb) and started working a few days later on its own. car no start or hard start several times. check engine lights on and off, key not found, etc. 5/19/14 exiting highway at approx. 75 mph (59,000 miles) brakes don't work. car slows but won't stop. no light illuminated for brake problem. it was petrifying. called dealer in morning and they indicated not warranty and not recall so ordered brake booster from dealer and replaced. was without vehicle for several days. 5/28/14 driving approx. 75 on highway--dash lights flash, car shakes and shudders uncontrollably, screen reads service air suspension system and etc code. exit highway car has no suspension. stop make phone call and restart car and no lights, warnings, and suspension back. driving 35 mph on busy city street (in front of school) car dash flashes and goes black--a red lightning bolt appears and the car shuts off while driving. no brakes, power steering, hazard lights, suspension, etc. i was terrified! pushed down accelerator and car starts back up (similar to depressing gas peddle on golf cart). took to dealer and they replaced a brake sensor and the suspension worked. said they could not replicate the car shutting off while driving. tipm must be the cause based on 1000s of owners comment. filed complaint with chrysler today. frightened for my safety and the safety of other cars, people, etc. drive over 100 miles per day on highway. can't obtain tipm part. must use car to work but safety concerns with driving. *tr

Tried to enter vehicle. would not unlock using passive key fob. had to use a key to unlock door. once door unlocked, the security horn started. had to re-lock door to shut horn off. door would now unlock using passive system. have had numerous instances of the vehicle not recognizing the key fob. had to take it out of my pocket and hold it close to the dash or open and close the door several times before being able to start the vehicle. *tr

The remote start on the jeep starts but does not run. i was told the tipm was bad in it and cuts off fuel to the jeep and also causes the ar bags not to work, also controls alot of other electrical parts on the jeep. i feel jeep should have already had a recall on this part as they know there are numerous problems anad they are putting people in danger while driving. i undertand there are so many bad they are on back order for "several months". this is not fair to the consumer to be placed in this kind of danger, nor not be able to get the part for over several months. *tr

In june 2012 my vehicle began giving problems starting after several days back and forth to the dealer i was told my vehicle needs a pcm. the pcm was ordered and replaced but the problem still exist. i was then told the tipm had an issue. the tipm was replaced and the vehicle seems to be working as far as the issues starting but i kept having problems with the vehicle shutting off while driving. months and moths went by with me having this issue until they placed a device on my vehicle to record what's happening. after keeping my vehicle for a whole day to remove the device, a week later they said it did not record anything because it went dead. however, i was told to bring the vehicle back in for them to check spark plugs, transmission, and other things i did so and the problem went a way for couple months only to come right back. right now i am right back at square one with the vehicle giving a hard start and the vehicle shutting off while driving. something needs to be done about these vehicles. they need to be overhauled. *tr

Back in june 2012 i began experiencing problems with my vehicle. the vehicle was giving a hard start and stalling while driving. the vehicle has been back and forth to the dealership for these problems and as a result the hard start is the only thing that was fixed. in may 2013 the dealership installed a device called the starmobile to monitor the vehicle to see what causes the vehicle to shut down. upon taking it off they told me the device did not read however, the problem seemed to be fixed. about 2 months later, it came right back to haunt me the vehicle began shutting down again. on the morning of 10/21/13, the vehicle shutdown and cause me to run in the bushes as a result. if this was to happen on the main road i would end up in someone's vehicle and would of had to pay for repairs for both my vehicle and the other person vehicle. help help help that's all i am asking for. *tr

Unable to use remote entry and,start-message unable to locate key-have to use manual entry system etc. dealer fixed same day. now approx. one year later with only 8,550 miles unable to do again same type problem but more so-we were taken both set of keys to unlock doors and to start -then would not do either back to manual. dealer service said 10 days -to 2 weeks to replace -now after checking with dealer after 2 weeks we were advised up to 1 month more due to backlog. *tr

Similar to other complaint filed 2/13/2012. 2011 jeep grand cherokee, problems with the key fob 3 times (4 if you include the battery dying after just over a year) whereby driver was stranded due to key fob malfunction. first time dealer thought it was a defective key fob, however, while waiting for a replacement the then currently working key fob also malfunctioned- whereby the "defective" fob was tried and it worked again. dealer then said a computer update was the problem and that did seem to fix the problem. however, again recently key fob would not work ' driver entered the car with the emergency door key- pulled off the starter button and inserted the key manually to be told it was a "defective key" (or something similar). dealer examined car, worked with manufacturer but since problem couldn't be "duplicated" they would take no further action. all incidents happened while in town of residence. however, if this occurred while traveling it could be quite a disaster and potentially put them in harms way if they were stranded in for example grand forks nd in february and there was severe weather as has been the case in the past. numerous discussions in online forums also discuss the issue (both jeep and chrysler). the bottom line - this defect has resulted in our having a serious lack of trust in using this car- it could put my family in a very bad situation. *tr

Recently having issues while trying to start my 2011 jeep gc. the engine will turn over but will not start the electronic throttle control (etc) warning light comes on. this has been happening intermittently and becoming more frequent. in doing research, it seems this is a common problem with this model and the replacement part is not only costly, but on bo for a undisclosed time frame. *tr

December 5, 2011 vehicle remote started, shut off and failed to restart. taken to dealership, related that it was a key programming issue. december 9, 2011 vehicle would not start, towed to dealership, related that it was a climate control module. december 12, 2011 vehicle would not start, taken to dealership, related it was a "totally integrated power module" and a block fuse. vehicle remained out of service until january 11, 2012. january 11, 2012 vehicle picked up driven 170 miles, turned off would not start, towed to dealership. january 17, 2012 dealership related that the vehicle had a undetermined electrical issue and the problem was not resolved, chrysler had open a "chrysler star case" on the vehicle. january 18, 2012 contacted by dealership relating that the vehicle was fixed, replaced battery and that resolved all problems. vehicle has had four separate electronic component failures and has not been picked up since release date january 18, 2012. it is my belief that the vehicle still has an electronic anomalies that render the vehicle unreliable. *kb

We purchased a new 2011 jeep grand cherokee 11/23/2011. the car had 308 miles on odometer. on 11/25/2011 as we were going out of town the vehicle's diagnostic (obd ii) system warning appeared, with a symbol "mil" indicating a malfunction indicator light. i checked the fuel tank cap and it was tight, i drove the vehicle to the nearest chrysler/jeep dealership in hamptonroads, va. the service department checked out the problem and determined it to be a # 6 cylinder, misfire-coil failure. none were available for replacement. the service department person stated that it was ok to drive the vehicle locally but suggested it would not be a good idea to drive it out of town, as it would not get very good gas mileage! we started to drive the vehicle home, however; approximately 2 miles after we departed the jeep dealership the vehicle caught a fire and burned the entire engine compartment/front of vehicle. we, my wife and i escaped without physical harm, but had to stand by and watch it burn until the firedepartment arrived. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that there were various electrical shortages within the vehicle that occurred intermittently. the dealer was not able to neither replicate nor diagnose the failures. the contact also indicated that the brakes failed on several occasions and went to the floorboard abnormally. the contact had to apply force to stop the vehicle on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who installed insufficient rotors and did not secure the tires causing them to fracture. the contact had to take the vehicle back to have the dealer to have them reinstall the correct rotors. the vehicle was repaired by the authorized dealer for the brake failure however, the failure intermittently recurred. the vin was not available. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 38,000.

I bought a 2011 grand cherokee from shave jeep in thousand oaks, ca. the vehicle started to malfunction within days after purchase. it would seize up, usually at highway speed, stall out, thus losing power steering and brakes. i brought the car in for service about 8 times until i almost got hit by a big rig on the highway at night when my car died. the constant engine light reading was a camshaft position sensor. chrysler techs attempted to resolve the problem without any luck. unfortunately the dealer swapped out cars with me and i found out they sold this vehicle without telling the new owners of the major mechanical problems. *tr
