I have tried to start my car several times with just continuous cranking. i called two different jeep dealerships and they said they have never heard of this issue before. yesterday, i was driving down the street at 55 mph with my 5 month old in the car after daycare- and my car just shut off while driving and i almost crashed into the person in front of me!!!! very scary. i had to swerve to miss the person in front of me because the brakes and car were not working- just completely shut off. i finally got it started again and got to a safe location. i then had it towed. i did some research to find that this is a very common issue with 2011 jeep grand cherokees and chrysler refuses to do a recall on this. are they insane?!!! we could have been in a serious accident. if the car is not under warranty- the price to fix the issue is $1300+. i just purchased this car in november of 2013 because i thought it would be safe for me and my new baby. now i have to dish out $1300 because of a faulty part that chrysler refuses to fix? they are very aware of the tipm not performing on these models- please research all the forums that talk about this. there is already lawsuits pending. please advise on what to do at this point. i do not have this kind of money to fix a car with 39000 miles on it. i will never purchase a jeep or chrysler again. *tr

This is the second time in six months that i have had a major problem with my key fob affecting my engine. i am afraid this may be an ignition switch problem but the dealer keeps telling me it's the key fob battery. the first time my car would not start and the engine was dead. they replaced both key fobs 6 months ago and told me they were defective. this time when i pushed the button the engine made a screeching rattling sound, the engine light came on and the car would not turn off. eventually it did and i tried it again and the same thing happened. the car was towed 30 miles to the dealer and they told me the key fob battery needed to be replaced. i asked the service technician if their computer showed that my engine light came on and he agreed but told me that they could not find the problem, other than the key fob battery. i told them both key fobs were new. i have only had this car for 3 years and it only has 11,605 miles on it. how on earth can a key fob cause engine problems? i may not be an expert on cars but i'm not stupid. i believe it may be something to do with the ignition. i hope jeep fixes this before there are any accidents or deaths. i now feel i am forced to purchase an extended warranty for over $2,100.00 because i'm afraid of what might happen when my factory warranty expires next month. i don't think i would ever buy a new car again. the old ones seem more reliable. i am afraid to drive this car now, knowing it has electrical issues that the dealer can't seem to find the reasons why. key fob battery? i find this very hard to accept. i would like the old key ignition - i don't trust these push button ignitions. my 2011 jeep is still at the dealer but they have told me it's ready for pick up. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle restarted. the contact notified the dealer about the incident. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. in september of 2014, the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v53000 (electrical system). the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the failure mileage was approximately 70,200.

When i try to start my vehicle, it will attempt to turn over but will then turn itself off. after reading online, it seems that there is a faulty tipm that is causing the problem. i have read that it also causes electrical malfunctions, and stalling at random times while driving. this causes a very big concern for me; as it could be very dangerous for my vehicle to stall at interstate speeds or while turning at an intersection. *tr

I have received 3 recall notices regarding my 2011 jeep grand cherokee (nhtsa 14v154, 14v530 and 14v391). after receiving notice 14v154 i contacted the local dealership (larry h miller in boise idaho) and was informed that the parts were back ordered with no date when parts would be available. this information was repeated in september. having now received 3 recalls i attempted to schedule to have all 3 resolved at the same time. however, when i tried to schedule a service, i'm told that, while parts are available, they will not order the parts until i bring my vehicle in first. when i asked why they stated that they needed the vin number. however, they not only have my vehicle information on record and i had the vin available during the call. i asked to complete the service order on the phone and was told it was "policy" to schedule service appointments only when the vehicle is present and only then will they order parts. this dealership has exceeded the reasonable amount of time to complete the repairs and is creating an unreasonable barrier to completing the services. *tr

Engine turns over but wont start.after doing research online,i believe the problem is the tipm. i heard the engine can shut off at any time.that can be very dangerous. *tr

Within the first two months of owning the vehicle, it didn't want to crank (didn't turn over). after two attempts, it cranked fine for the next few months. about a month later, same thing occured. 09/03/14 same type of incident occured except etc light came on. cranked after two separate attempts. car alarm also randomly will go off in a parking lot, especially whenever locked, with no other cars or interferences around (happens at least monthly).

Jeep will not start on first try. i removed the push start button and began starting with the key. that worked fine for about a month then it required multiple tries to get it started. i have now started using the remote start and it worked for 4 days. it is not hard to start every time but at least twice a day i have a problem with it. i had the jeep dealership check my battery in august to see if that was the problem and they informed me my battery was fine. *tr

I've been receiving recall notices on a jeep i purchase last february (used) on recalls p14, p36 and p54. i continuously call jeep to have these issues repaired and am told the parts are not available, jeep hasn't shipped or they just have too many recalls. how do i get my recalls fixed before i do have a crash?? i am concerned. *tr

The air conditioning produces cold air on the driver's side but produces hot air on the passenger side. the heater bend doors are broken. this is a common problem with jeeps. my vehicle is 38 months ond, 2 months out of warranty with 30,120 miles. jeep refuses to repair the problem under warranty, and even denies that bend door failures are a common problem with jeeps, even though the internet is filled with complaints about the problem. *tr

The heater/ac blend door is broken: the driver's side gets ac but the passenger side only receive hot air. this is a very common problem with this model jeep. the dealer refuses to repair the problem under warranty. the vehicle is 2 months out of warranty and has 30,120 miles. jeeps denies this is a common problem, and yet the internet is filled with jeep blend door complaints. *tr

Earlier this year i started experiencing starting difficulties with my jeep. while pressing the start button, the ignition would run but not turn over. eventually it would start. however, over the summer the problem became worse and on occasion the vehicle would not start and when it did it would stall out. i took it to the dealer on 8/23/2014 and they were able to replicate the problem. they called me and said i had a bad fuel pump and it needed to be replaced at a price of $1,300. while the jeep was in the shop, i started doing an online search of my problem and discovered the problem that a huge number of people were having - a bad tipm. on 8/26/2014 i went in to pick up the vehicle and noticed on my receipt that they replaced the tipm and not the fuel pump. i presented my research with the service tech and said since this is definitely a design flaw with this vehicle, this should either be covered under warranty or recall. he said that he had no authority to do this and i was forced to pay $1,233.42 to retrieve my vehicle. i have now been made aware of a recall for this problem wherein the remedy will be to replace the fuel pump relay with one external to the tipm at no charge. since my problem was resolved prior to this recall i am expecting a reimbursement of the $1,233.42 that i have already paid. *tr

Tipm failure. it was very costly and a burden to fix. chrysler needs to recall this part. *tr

2011 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regards to vehicle struggles to start. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle would crank, but not turn over. after multiple attempts, the vehicle finally started. while awaiting the dealers diagnosis, the consumer did some research and discovered the common cause seemed to be the totally integrated power module (tipm). the dealer confirmed, the problem was indeed the (tipm).

Bought a used jeep grand cherokee 2011 w/ 19k miles on it (it was leased before). first incident happened with 30k miles on it. vehicle would turn over a little bit but would not start. dealership said fuel pump was bad, running after vehicle turned of then didn't get power when turning it on. dealership replaced fuel pump, went to pick it up from dealership and it wouldn't start. second trip (within 2-3 days) to dealership it started up. worked fine for about 4-5 weeks, then same incident occurred again. vehicle would turn over but not start up, sounded the exact same as the prior issue. dealership replaced the tipm, car worked fine for about 12 months. two weeks ago, the same issue came about. car turning over but not starting. this time the dealership replaced my key fob and it worked for 1 day, then the same issue occurred. now my jeep is sitting at another dealership and they have replaced the wiring to the fuel pump and now they are in the process of replacing another fuel pump. i heard today that they fuel pump is replaced but still not getting power to it (tipm problem again). chrysler wants me to pay a deductible for an obviously faulty part that they have replaced again. this last time when i brought my jeep to the dealer i tried to start the vehicle to let me father hear the noise it was making. a dealership service technician walked by hearing the noise it made and asked, "is it a 2011?", i replied, "yes", he followed up by saying that model and year has had a recurring problem with the tipm, which from what i have read online is extremely dangerous, especially if the car were moving and it went out. you would be left without power steering and brakes. chrysler has made a product that is faulty and realizes it, yet they still charge customers to replace the faulty parts. *tr

My husband was in an accident on a sunny morning with no precipitation or ice involved while driving in a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. he was not speeding or found responsible for this accident. a chrysler authorized body shop and the insurance company totaled the car based on the steering column, electrical system, the airbags, as well as the seat belts - which we found strange since we drove the car from the accident. it has been over a year now that he has been dealing with the aftermath of this accident - a traumatic brain injury from this small collision, still out to work, having trouble functioning, and trying to get some answers as to how an airbag that deployed at a speed of 30 mph or less can injure someone so much. fca (which is now chrysler) is not giving us any straight answers as to whether this case is involved with the tanaka airbag recall situation. based on their actions we feel that fca doesn't want to pay for/take responsibility for the vehicles that they have inherited from chrysler. through our dealings with fca we are learning that they cannot be trusted to do what they say they are going to do. fca has told us a few different stories about the orc module, airbags, and seat belts, what we have found is that fca is a group of liars and this needs to be looked into by the federal government immediately as fca is directly putting american safety at risk. we were very loyal jeep customers prior to the fca buyout because of chrysler's previous track record of safety and their reliability as a company to take care of important issues like these, fca is not following in their footsteps and i hope all who read this that can do something about this will. *tr

During the cold winter months in nyc the vehicle failed to start after a few attempts it did actually start. the rear door latch opens but the door doesn't actually open so i need to get out and open the door and close it to remove the door open symbol on my dashoboard. then the door will do the same thing 3 or 4 times in a row. also the real glass window doesnt open, but then will open on its own for no reason. *tr

Vehicle dies from no reasons, also fails to start at times. *tr

I was driving to my mother in law house, at 60 miles per hour and my car just stopped, i was i front of a semi, that could easily ran over me and my 6 months baby!! good thing that the semi could change lane before hitting us, i have read a lot of complaints of customers that have the same problem the tipm module is not working and is causing the car not to start or if it starts just stop suddenly, so i want to put this complaint and hope that there is a recall soon because it's not fair for customers like me, pay for an expensive car and due to their not quality parts having problems on our daily lives and also put in dangers out lives and lives of others in the road!! and i hope that whoever have the last word to do a recall just think about you don't even want to have any member of your family get hit by one of this cars just because of the negligence of jeep/chrysler, that's just not responsible from them, so if there is any law suit or something i definitely want to be on it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v530000 (electrical system), 14v391000 (electrical system), and 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic); however, the parts needed to do the repairs were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact had not experienced a failure.

Sometimes the first start of the day the engine spins over but, it will not start. we found that sometimes we can push the panic button on and off and then try starting again and the engine will start. we also noticed that the keyless door locks will not operate properly. it appears to be the tipm. after reading all the post on the internet about this issue it would appear chrysler knows about this issue but, has not issued a recall yet. *tr

Engine would crank but would not start. required repeated tries and would then start. this has occurred several times since february. seems to occur after car has been sitting for a few days. radio and ac have also have some unexplained behaviors that may or may not be related. have now learned through numerous online complaints that tipm may very well be the culprit. going to dealer on monday. *tr

This has been an ongoing issue since i have had the vehicle regarding the tipm's unit. it first came up a few months after purchasing the vehicle in april 2013. the unit was flashed and the problem "fixed" under warranty. this january it is now not only taking 2-10 attempts to start, my gas mileage has severely decreased and there is a funny odor once the car is started. i cannot go to the dealership in my current town as there are overly innondated with work trucks for the oil field so i am forced to take my car to abilene which is an 85 mile trip each way to have any work done on it. i work for a non profit in my town and therefore drive around to not so safe places daily and hate being stuck with a car that wont start. this possible could correlate to the issues with my motor in the air ride suspension that had to be replaced in december of 2013 that luckily was covered under warranty since it had been an issue as well before the warranty mileage ended. *tr

The grand cherokee was sitting at a reconditioning stage at my dealership while workers began to smell smoke coming from the front of the vehicle. a small fire had begun at the fuse box. immediately, the workers extinguished the fire and disconnected the battery terminals. some fuses were melted and the connections underneath the fuse box were melted. the fuse box is damaged beyond repair and it may need new harnesses. i'm currently working with chrysler to investigate the cause and the next step to repair. *tr

Vehicle refused to turn over, service 4x4 and engine light on. brought to dealer replaced fuel pump. returned to me with service 4x4 and engine light on, slid down on hill no 4 wheel drive. returned to dealer 4 weeks later transfer case replaced car jump into 4 wheel low while i was on highway almost put me thru windshield. back at dealer over 1 week the do not know the problem and stated no one on their country wide database has this problem. i was told today that jeep headquarters wants all reports sent to them to assist repair. i purchased this car used in october and have not driven it more then 1 week. i have a huge payment and huge rental bills i did file a case with jeep customer but no help. *tr

I have a 2011 jeep grand cherokee i have been experiencing problems with my truck stalling while on the road and problems with it turning on. at times i would not hear my fuel pump turn on and even when i would hear it run my truck would still fail to completely turn on. my vehicle has had this problem for a year or so. i had experienced this problem in the past with the stalling and upon taking it to the dealer ship i was told that they could not duplicate the problem and that my vehicle was fine. several months later my vehicle continued to have the same issue but since the dealership informed me that this was normal i continued on. none the less a few days ago i experienced a problem at work where my truck did not turn on. luckily after 4 hours of attempting to turn it on it finally did i drove it home the next day in the morning it did not start up again. i had to have it towed to the dealership they informed me that it was the tipm and it was covered under the extended warranty that i had purchased but i would still have to pay $100 for the deductible for the warranty. i am beyond livid and upset with these new findings that this is a common and known issue. my wife and myself have matching 2011 jeep grand cherokee's and now i am just waiting for the same thing to happen to her! this is ridiculous!!! when will there be a recall!!! *tr

The problem we had was generally with starting the vehicle. the problem has been intermittent over several weeks, seeming to be more of a problem in colder weather. the engine spun but would not start. in other words, the engine attempted to start, sometimes cranking continuously, until it timed out without starting. with time and frequency, we became more concerning that we would be stranded in an undesirable situation. after reading numerous posts on this website, http://www.gotaclassaction.com/chrysler-investigated-over-defective-totally-integrated-power-module-tipm-in-2011-2012-jeep-grand-cherokees-and-dodge-durangos/, we were almost certain we had a defective tipm. we took it to a dealer and they indicated it had a fuel relay short internally in the tipm. they suggested a wiring workaround, installing an external fuel pump relay and bypassing the defective tipm. perhaps this is better than improvising, but we do not know the risks this carries -- the wiring workaround and the still defective tipm -- for going forward. additionally, we hope there would be a recall of the tipm and reimbursement for the wiring workaround in our future. *tr

After much research, i have found that my tipm is bad. my vehicle started experiencing issues with starting and stalling in january of 2014 (@ just over 30k miles). initially i did not think much of the problem as it was in january and cold here in colorado. the problem mildly continued in feb and march... fast forward to july 2014 and the problem became more prevalent. i finally have an appointment with the local dealership to look at the problem (tomorrow - 28august2014). it is now a daily occurrence that my vehicle will not start without many attempts and once it does start, it stalls and the engine turns off. *tr

2011 jeep cherokee grand. i have 50,000 miles on it. it has stalled and is not consistently starting up. tipm has gone bad. *tr

Tipm was faulty. this should be a recall. *tr

Driving on interstate check engine light came on. vehicle shutters at stop. set appointment for dealer. dealer tested system. report states multiple in multiple modules , low voltage battery failed test, must be replaced. dealer charged for new battery, and multiple module updates. reprogrammed pcm, tipm, power lift gate, wireless control module, and final drive controller. vehicle has been out of shop less than a week. check engine light is back on must be taken in for repair again. *tr

Purchased a 2011 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4x4 from moore auto sales in moore, oklahoma on nov. 16, 2013 and have had problems with it since the 17th. the jeep was having trouble starting and if it did start, the fuel pump would run after we shut the vehicle off. would have to pull the fuse to the fuel pump to turn it off, now after a month of dealing with this is will not start at all, it will just turn over. jeep says it is most likely a faulty tipm core, but they are back ordered to who knows when! very frustrated! *tr

Headliner caught fire, origin appears to be near passenger vanity mirror base. *tr.. updated 08-20-14 *bf updated 08/25/2014 *js

I have owned a 2011 jeep grand cherokee since may of this year. this past week my wife began have trouble getting the jeep started. yesterday morning, it took her 45 minutes to get the jeep started. she left work around noon to run an errand and ended up stuck in a parking lot in freezing temperatures for over an hour trying to get the vehicle started. only after i called my insurance company for a tow truck, did the vehicle finally start. she drove it to the dealership where they diagnosed a faulty tipm. the service representative then proceeded to tell me that it would be a $1500 repair. after doing some research and discovering that this is a common issue with this model year i call jeep costumer service yesterday and again today and received the same answer. there is nothing they could do to help. this is unacceptable. *tr

The vehicle randomly will not start until several attempts of cranking are made. keyless enter-n-go will not work randomly. horn will start honking randomly during starting problems. *tr

Had intermittent issues with the key. the key wasn't being recognized by the vehicle. still occurs once in a while. i have to remove the key from the case and slide it back in. it usually works after that. recently when starting the jeep. after pushing the start button the engine will crank repeatedly but not turn over. all my gauges work. the vehicle will still lock and unlock. the lights work in accessories. the jeep will turn over sometimes. the problem is intermittent. *tr

Vehicle fails to start multiple times. turned off while backing up multiple times. it is currently on a jeep service dealer, they indicated failure on the "tipm" module. the replacement is on backorder, with no specific date for arrival and installation. *tr
