Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

While driving on the interstate at 65 mph, the vehicle's engine stalled. i had to put the vehicle in neutral, turn the ignition off an back on to restart it. this first happened just after the 30 day warranty was over, as i bought the vehicle used in may of 2012. since that time, the vehicle has stalled at highway speeds or when slowing down for a stop on dozens if not hundreds of occasions. the spark plugs, egr valve, ignition coil, pcv valve and map sensor have been changed to no effect. there are no meaningful diagnostic codes stored in the obd-ii system. i feel this condition is very dangerous, as i never know when the vehicle will stall, causing a loss of power steering and brakes, and the ability to accelerate out of harm's way. it is my understanding that many of these same vehicles with the same engine are having similar issues. i can no longer let my wife or teenage son drive the vehicle because of this condition. *tr

2007 jeep grand cherokee laredo - randomly the vehicle will not start, when turning the key to in the ignition you can hear the relay clicking, engine does not crank or start. when the key is returned to the off position the data display below the tachometer momentarily states that the transmission is overheated. the battery is fully charged and everything else, lights, horn, etc still work. there are no error codes dumped. the first attempt to fix this by the dealership was to replace the starter, now 4 months later the vehicle is doing the same exact thing. this has become a reliability issue in that there is no telling when this will occur, each time family members have been stranded with this vehicle, jeep dealership seems to be "stumped". i have read of many jeep vehicles that demonstrate this very same problem, without resolution. this can be an intermittent issue, usually have to wait until it becomes a "hard" fail before the dealership will look at it. this is extremely frustrating owning this vehicle not knowing when it will or will not start and whether the dealership can or cannot fix it! *tr

Jeep does not start. message saying transmission temp over. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee 4x4. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle began to jerk and then the speed began to reduce to 20 mph unintendedely. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis and they stated that the failure was contributed to a faulty electronic shift control module. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that there was not a recall related to the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000. the vin was unavailable.

Vehicle stall out at various speeds, or when idling stationary. comes on without warning. seems these stalling problems are common with 5.7 hemi jeep grand cherokees, even according to the dealer. this is a serious safety hazard as power steering and brakes are lost during a stall. an inoperative vehicle in a traffic lane could suffer a rear-end collision from this condition. please help by ordering a recall from chrysler company to remedy the problem. nothing seems to remedy the situation and it keeps occurring. *tr

Was pulling from a stop sign when the vehicle suddenly shifted to fourth gear without touching shift left lever causing the vehicle to accelerate very slow and was almost hit by cross traffic because i could not get out of the way, luckily they swerved around me. i have read multiple complaints of same problem with shifting out of control. it must be a manufacturer defect. if it had not been for an alert driver the situation might have turned out differently for my family and i. jeep needs to remedy this problem before somebody is killed. *tr

Was attempting to merge onto a busy freeway and accelerated up to 60mph when the jeep suddenly slammed into second gear and refused to shift. i couldn't get it to do anything other than "limp" very roughly to the shoulder. if people hadn't slowed down i would have been busted from several points. took it to the local jeep dealership and they told me that it happens with jeep grand cherokees all the time and that they recommended replacing the esm but stated that it doesn't always fix the problem and that they've replaced thousands only to have it recur months later. this is going to get someone killed. *tr

I have two problems with the vehicle that make it unsafe to drive. the first is that the engine randomly stalls. most of the time it stalls when the vehicle is stopped. sometimes it stalls at very slow speeds. when stopped, sometimes i hear a "thunk" right before it stalls like it was trying to go into gear. it has done this running in park and when the brake is pressed while in drive. it has stalled on me in busy intersections putting me in unsafe situations. turning the key all the way off and back on will restart it. the second issue is that the transmission randomly gets stuck in 4th gear. it happens most often when a lot of power has been applied from stop. but it also happens randomly. when it occurs, i pull over and stop the engine turning the key all the way off. usually when i restart it will go back to drive and all the gears in the transmission function normally. the issue is so chronic now with the transmission that it immediately goes into 4th and the vehicle is not drivable. it is at the dealer now. the dealer pulled codes and recommends replacing the transmission solenoid pack. this part is currently on national backorder and there is no eta of when the part will be available to the dealer. also there is no guarantee that this part will fix the transmission problem. if it doesn't, the vehicle will require a new transmission. they are not even looking at the stalling problem until the transmission problem is resolved. the stalling problem is very serious and i cannot confidently use the vehicle without fearing putting children in an unsafe situation. there should be a safety recall by chrysler on these vehicles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact was driving 65 mph when all of the warning lamps illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after several moments. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the shift module was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who stated that they would contact her at a later date. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and the current mileage was 44,433.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle's acceleration seized. the contact had to shift to neutral then back to drive in order to regain acceleration. the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle experienced the same failure approximately ten times. the vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the shifter failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 47,200.

I purchased this vehicle on december 14, 2011. about three weeks later in a parking lot, we noticed the vehicle would not accelerate even though the accelerator pedal was pushed virtually all the way down. a few days later the engine warning light came on. then the lack of acceleration happened on the interstate. my mechanic cleared the engine warning light but it came back on a few days later. i did a lot of research and it appears this is a common problem on jeep vehicles. the problem is a failure of the electronic shift module. it if very expensive to have replaced. my local dealership charged me $924 plus tax. as many comments as i have seen on this and the fact that lack of acceleration is a safety issue, jeep should not hesitate in issuing a recall. *tr

While i was driving home last night 12/16/11 with my fiancee we stopped at a traffic light, and when the light turned green the jeep started back up fine all except it couldn't go faster than 20 miles per hour. so i put my flashers on and the traffic behind me went around us, then it worked itself out, but did it again when i came to another traffic light. but this time i was able to use my manual shift to help it. no warning lights came on. and i just purchased this jeep 2 days ago. i would like to get this safety issue fixed since i have seen that this is a dangerous and common problem with the other 2007 jeep grand cherokees. i am also a firefighter and i depend on this jeep to get me to fire scenes and other emergency scenes, and i don't want to be in an emergency scene involving me due to the safety issues this jeep is having. can someone please do a recall and have this issue fixed. *tr

I was driving approximately 40 mph in the fast lane of a main two-lane residential roadway when the vehicle suddenly jerked violently forward throwing me into the steering wheel and then all acceleration and speed stopped. the steering wheel became abnormally stiff and difficult to turn however i was able to guide the completely stalled and decelerating vehicle to the slow lane and pull-off on the side of the road (with no side lane) with hazards flashing and traffic passing. this was an inherently dangerous condition as the flow of traffic was going approximately 35 - 40 in the fast lane at which time i completely lost power and had limited steering (more like coasting) ability. i was able to turn the engine completely off and restart, however the next day under similar conditions of normal driving conditions the vehicle jerked and stalled again, and restarted after a complete shutdown. this vehicle on the third day post the first incident failed to restart after driving to a local shopping destination and turning the car off to park. i left the vehicle at the location for approximately 4 to 5 hours and retrieved the vehicle upon which it started with a documented call into road side assistance program from jeep. the next day (monday) i drove to an authorized dealer upon which they stated the failure was the electronic shift module (esm) [(not to be confused with the electronic stability control (esc)] which controls the electronic signals from the computer to the transmission at a personal cost of $820. i believe this represents a known defect as currently 55 out of the 133 complaints listed here are describing a similar series of events and root cause, and would be willing to be involved in a class action law suit against jeep as life, limb and property are at stake. *tr

while driving the vehicle, had a sudden lose of ability to accelerate, no throttle response, no rpms on the tach, and every gear indicator was illuminated as if in all gears at the same time (park, reverse, neutral, drive). dealership says its part # 52124137ac that needs to be replaced, and is not covered under any power train warranty, at a cost of $817.00. this problem happened 4 times before i was able to get it in to the local dealership, never on the highway, if it had happened on the highway, im sure i would have been taking a chance with my life. *tr

When you shift from park the prdnl will have a box around each of the letters. when backing up it slams into reverse and then slams into drive and the vehicle will only go 20 mph no matter how much you step on the gas. this has now happened 5 times and the only way it goes back to normal is to shut off the vehicle and start it back up. i have now seen numerous blogs where this happens at highway speeds, in the middle of intersections and is so dangerous to drive cause you never know when it is going to happen. from what i have read it looks like you have to replace the electronic control module at a cost of almost $800 to just have it go out again later and have the same problem again. this is very dangerous and scary! *tr

The trans struggles to shift through every gear and wont shift past 3rd gear, sometimes even stalling me in traffic. feels like it doesn't catch the next gear when accelerating. there have been times when i've been stopped at a light at an intersection and when i go to accelerate, the engine will just rev as if it's in neutral, but it's not. therefore, the acceleration is very weak. when switching from park to drive, it either doesn't fully click into drive or it selects all gears (prnd) in which i then have to park the car and shut it off, then retry a minute later. i don't drive the vehicle as a manual so there should be no reason for it to stall, but i'm pretty sure the issue stems from the main computer in the shifter module. at times, it seems like the vehicle is expecting me to shift it from gear to gear, then it finally clicks and moves to the next gear on its own.

Owned the 07 jeep for 5 months. vehicle has been serviced for 2 different incidents. the 1st incident(actually happened several times) is when the vehicle would not shift during acceleration and it would force me to the side of the road where i would have to turn the vehicle on and off until it would run correctly. was told by dealership service that it was a transmission sensor, had the part replaced-not covered by warranty. less then 3 weeks later, 2nd incident occurred when i was driving 55mph down the interstate while accelerating to get over to an exit, the vehicle threw itself back into 2nd gear and i was forced to get over into the emergency lane so as not to be struck by oncoming traffic. the jeep had almost come to a complete stop in traffic! check engine light came on and went off after that. dealership states the gear ratio and valve cover forced the vehicle into 2nd gear. very dangerous! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated the gear shift module caused the vehicle to lunge forward and backwards. the vehicle would not accelerate over 20 mph. there was also a warning light illuminated indicating the gear shift had failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the gear shift module. the manufacturer was notified and informed her to file a complaint but offered no other assistance. the failure mileage was 98,300.

On oct.5th as i was merging onto the thruway at 55mph the truck just stopped accelerating in rush hour traffic. i put on my flashers and coasted to the shoulder just barely avoiding being rear ended. this was the second time this has happened with this vehicle. you could press the gas pedal and the rpm's would go sky high but the truck would not move while in drive. i turned the truck off, waited several seconds, started the truck and it moved in drive. i immediately called the dealer and have a oct.7th service call.this was a near death situation the second time due to the rush hour traffic. this vehicle has trouble shifting when started in the morning. after looking into the matter this appears to be a common problem with this model and make. it appears the electronic shift modules need replacing.after reading the numerous similar complaints i thought i would file a complaint before someone gets killed. *tr

I bought this jeep on 9/20/2013. the truck is equipped with the 5.7 l hemi engine. over the first 50 days and 1,157 miles of ownership i have encountered 18 episodes of the vehicle stalling, with 14 of those stalls occurring on major highways in traffic. the stalls occur with no warning. the vehicle immediately decelerates to a stop and i am left with no power, no steering and no brakes. one dealership blamed it on a bad battery. the dealership which sold me the jeep diagnosed the problem as a m.a.p. sensor, which they replaced. that did not correct the problem as the stalling problem continues to occur. the most recent was on 11/9/2013 while driving in the center lane of the pa turnpike at 65 mph. the jeep stalled and came to a stop, with a semi tractor-trailer behind me. i have no idea how that truck driver was able to swerve in time to miss me. mechanics and on-line forums identify possible causes for the stalling as 1. a defective (ecm) electronic control modules; 2. shorts in the wiring harness; 3. sparks plugs; 4. egr valve; 5. ignition coil; 6. pcv valve; 7. transmission solenoid pack. there are no diagnostic codes stored in the obd-ii system. one school of thought is that 2007 jeep grand cherokee and commanders equipped with the 5.7 l hemi engine are extremely sensitive to radio frequency interference from the waste spark on the coil. as other complaints have noted, this is an obvious and persistent problem with jeeps equipped with the hemi engine, and chrysler has turned a deaf ear to the complaints. perhaps they are waiting for the fatalities to occur. why nhtsa hasn't done more to order a recall is beyond my comprehension. the problem has been reported on for years with no action taken by chrysler. this jeep is, for lack of a better word, a deathtrap. at best it cannot be trusted, it is unsafe and unreliable. at worst it is an accident waiting to happen! *tr

While driving the vehicle loses power no matter how much gas you give it. the engine light comes on and off every few days. all the gear indicator lights are highlighted. *tr

Esm- electronic shift module issue: p, r, n, d, l all light up simultaneously and the car gets confused as to which gear it should be using. occasionally, the check engine light comes and goes. after reversing, i put it in drive and it shifts roughly. randomly the car loses power driving down the street. i had the esm replaced and a month later is showing a u404 code. *tr

Vehicle is 2007 jeep grand cherokee and currently has 18300 miles and was purchased new in jan. 2008. two failure to accelerate problems have occurred. one on 5/31/10 and another on 04/21/11. in both instances the vehicle would not shift into the next gear and the speed could not exceed 30 to 35 mph even with the accelerator pressed all the way to the floor. the problem occurred without any warning. after the first occurrence the dealer replaced the bezel shift selector. after the second occurrence the dealer could not determine what the problem was. merging onto a busy freeway where traffic speeds routinely exceed 80mph and not being able to accelerate beyond 30-35 mph is a serious safety problem which could result in injury or death. the same safety concerns apply if the vehicle suddenly decelerates from 70 to 30 mph. *tr

The dash indicators for the gear shift will all illuminate at the same time and the vehicle will go into neutral. this has happened three or four times. the last time it occurred while traveling on the expressway, fortunately i was able to get it back in gear after taping the shift lever several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they said they replaced a electronic shift module. they kept the old part that was removed. *tr

When putting transmission into drive, the vehicle will not accelerate, this problem first occurred at approx 31,000 miles. the dealership replaced the shift control module. the problem went away. then again at 62,000 miles, when pulling into traffic, the vehicle started to accelerate, then lost power. another vehicle had to swerve to miss me, i would have been hit in the drivers door had he not swerved. my vehicle would not move, after cycling the ignition key , the problem went away, took to dealer they told me that the same shift control module needs to be replaced (again) for 750.00. the vehicle is unsafe to drive and i am shocked that someone has not been killed by this issue as there are hundreds of reports of this on the internet. this is absolutely a manufacturing defect as it has happened on a wide number of identical vehicles with the same repair being performed only to have the problem repeat itself. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee 4x4. while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle decelerated and lost power. the contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate over 20 mph. the contact shut the vehicle off and was able to restart the vehicle within a few minutes. the failure recurred a second time. the manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostics but was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 33,300.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the front drive shaft at the transmission failed. the drive shaft hit the ground and the other half of the differential joint caught on fire. there were no injuries and the police were not called. the manufacturer was contacted and sent an investigator to further assess the failure. the contact was awaiting a ruling from the insurance company and the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 58,000.

Vehicle has lost power while driving. you will be crusing along or pulling out into an intersection and you will loose all power. the engine will not rev, no response at all. after waiting for a perion of time, the vehicle starts going again. this happened to me four times, once in the middle of an intersection, four lanes in all directions, and the vehicle just lost all power. very scary. i took the vehicle to my local garage, and he told me that this was the second jeep to do the same thing. the owner had to have the vehicle towed into the garage, and upon arrival, could find nothing wrong. i had to go to an authorized jeep dealer, and i asked them if they ever heard of this happening, and the reply was, just 3 or 4 times....imaging if this failure happened this often in this small area, how many other vehicles may be having the same problem. the vehicle only had 31000 miles on it, but it was out of warranty for time by 9 months. this is a very dangerous event when you are driving and suddenly loose all power and don't know if or when it is coming back. chrysler said they do not have a problem. i don't believe them. *tr

When my 2007 jeep grand cherokee is in drive, there is a loss of power. the check-engine light comes on, and it's as if the car doesn't know whether it's in drive, neutral, reverse, etc. the dealer says i need a electronic shift module to the tune of $600+. after looking into this, i see it is a problem with many jeep grand cherokees. i am looking into getting jeep to take responsibility for the faulty part. *tr

Jeep grand cherokee 2007, 25,000 miles. suddenly decelerates and all of the boxes around the gears prnd light up at the same time. i need to pull over, turn the jeep off, then restart to regain normal running. this could be a tragic problem if the jeep were to suddenly decelerate on a highway with a full load of children. *tr

Upon acceleration from stop vehicle will hesitate and lose power. this constitutes a hazard to vehicle and any approaching vehicles during a turn. inspection indicates that transmission electronic control module is at fault along with a possible transmission sensor failure. the check engine light will come on. both of these conditions ( power and check engine ) are intermittent, indicating that the module is faulty. there have been many complaints about the transmission ecm on these vehicles. the other complaints have varying symptoms but all go back to the transmission ecm. these unit should be recalled and repaired or replaced at manufacturers cost. this problem exists in many different models and years of vehicles, but always go back to this ecm unit. after investigating this problem i don't feel that the consumer is at fault or causing this to occur. chrysler modules are and have been faulty in the past. anecdotal evidence says that other modules in chrysler vehicles have had problems too. please investigate the chrysler transmission ecm's and have them recalled. *tr

2007 jeep grand cherokee laredo, pulling onto highway vehicle experienced loss of power. prnd on display were all selected and check engine light came on. was able to pull to side of road , put vehicle into park, cycle vehicle off then back on and power was restored. since the initial occurrence the event has happened twice more. scheduled appointment with repair department. *tr

I was driving at 70mph on the highway when suddenly the car "jerked" and the speed drastically decreased to 20mph. i was unable to accelerate. the check engine light came on and there was a box around prnd instead of just around drive. i got off the highway as soon as i could and drove to my local mechanic. the same thing happened to me in oct 2009 shortly after i purchased the vehicle, i brought it back to the dealer and it was fixed at that time. now alittle over one year later the same thing happened. i am lucky that i was traveling when traffic was light or it most certainly would have caused an accident. i spoke with jeep and they were not willing to offer any assistance unless i brought the car back to the dealer in which is was repaired before, i explained that the dealership is one hour away and i would not be driving my vehicle that distance and do not currently have the financial capability to have it towed that distance. they need to issue a recall on this situation.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the shift module suddenly failed by shifting out of gear and the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and then drove to the nearest dealer. the dealer inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that he would need to replace the gear shift module. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 48,000. the vin was unavailable.

Vehicle has stopped accelerating on multiple occasions. all of the prnd lights switched to having a square around them, normally, only the transmission position that you are in will have the square around them. while going 20mph the car stopped accelerating once until i came to a complete stop. had to put on hazards and had to turn off car and restart it in order to move again - was at least 45 seconds with no acceleration at all. problem has occurred five times so far. four times i was going between 15-20, and once going 50. check engine light has came on when this occurs too. four of the times it has happened i just made a turn and started accelerating, and once i was traveling a straight path.

Vehicle lost power (engine rpm went to idle) for no apparent reason while turning onto a multi-lane hwy and accelerating. power was restored and vehicle accelerated normally. vehicle "check engine" light illuminated. this has continued to occur several times in the last month. "check engine" code u0404 was verified through jeep is the "tcm" transmission control module.

The car all of a sudden loses power and all the prnd12 light up. some days it won't go into drive, then all of a sudden drops into drive. when driving on the highway if you slow down, you can't speed up again, like you have no acceleration. once in a while the check engine light comes on, then it will go off again, most of the time you have no notice that anything is going to happen, you just lose the ability to accelerate. i see a lot of other people filing complaints on the same issue and have looked online and found many more that are having this issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact was driving approximately 30 mph when the vehicle would no longer accelerate and came to a stop. the check engine light was illuminated and the steering wheel became abnormally stiff. the contact was able to move the vehicle to the side of the road and turned the ignition off. when the contact restarted the vehicle, the vehicle jerked but the contact was able to drive the vehicle to his residence. the failure persisted at least sx times and the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician advised that the transmission module control would need replacing. the manufacturer was contacted and advised they would work with the dealer in assisting with repairs. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 27,600.

*tr

Auto transmission gear shift not shifting into gears correctly; loss power around curves; sometimes engine light comes on; sometimes all gear indicators come on dash; feels as though can't accelerate when entering onto highway or passing. nothing done yet. called dealer, online searches. very very many same-similar online & very expensive repair $700+. appears to be defective part & should be recall/dealer replace/repair!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate and all of the warning lights on the dash board were illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician advised that the shift module would need replacing. the mechanic advised that there was no guarantee that the failure would not recur. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure persisted. the contact stated that the failure would occur most frequently in colder temperatures. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 53,000.

I have a 2007 jeep grand cherokee with about 38,000 miles on it. it has stalled out several times when trying to accelerate almost resulting in a few accidents. i was told the electronic shift module needs to be replaced, which has been a recurring problem for a large number of jeeps this year-make-model. the part alone costs over $700 and is on national back order for over a month. there absolutely needs to be a recall....this is a serious safety hazard and absolutely ridiculous!! *tr

After being parked the jeep would not start, code displayed in the dash stated transmission over temp, after sitting for about 30 more minutes the jeep started - drove home and it would not start again - took it to a garage and they could not get the problem to replicate after having it for a week. july 5, 2011 - jeep would not start again, transmission over temp code, still intermittent, after 2 weeks the garage replaced the transmission control module, august 6, 2012 - transmission over temp error code, this time it will not start after any pause in driving, had it towed to the dealer and they are saying its the starter (jeep now has about 65,000 miles on it) - also had to replace the right front speed sensor (it is bad and causing the traction control system not to function properly).[additional notes: had to replace the esm at 28596 miles, jeep loss of engine power and all lights lit up on gear shifter, at 27170 miles had to replace both front window regulators]. *tr

In may 2008, 15308 mi on jeep, slowing for red light, dies, all dash lights com on, no power to steer, no wipers, etc.; starts back on it's own. took to dealer, no code, no re-act; has happened intermittent since-safety issue in traffic. now tranny problem, started sept. 2010, 37,600 mi, code 750, changed solenoid pk in tranny, now code for low pressure send circuit, drives a few miles then goes and stays in 4th gear; 3 months and still not drivable. need recall for esm and tbs before someone gets killed. chrysler should stand behind their products & be responsible for design and components. this is very disheartening since both my husband and i own a small biz and are struggling just to keep the doors open and now add the expense of diagnosing chrysler's problem is just too much! i warranty my work, wear & tear considered, as should chrysler before someone is hurt or worse- dies trying to get to out of traffic. *tr

My jeep has experienced three electrical failures which have occurred approximately 6 months apart. for some unknown reason the battery died overnight each time. the second time it happened i purchase a new battery but six months later it drained too. i was able to successfully jump-start the vehicle after each incident. transmission----i haven't been able to down-shift from drive to a lower gear. this problem began at about 46000 miles. i took it to a repair shop where they diagnosed the problem as defective shifter control. before i had it repaired (est. $1000) it began functioning normally, that is, until today. i left a parking lot and merged into traffic. fortunately traffic was light because i couldn't get the jeep to go any faster than 28 mph. it seemed like the transmission was stuck in first. also the engine light came on. this is a very serious situation that should not be ignored by the chrysler corp. or the national highway traffic safety adm.. *tt

3.0 liter crd has had multiple problems from purchase to include air intake, oil systems, and seals. engine is unreliable and does not seem to last more than 5,000 miles before needing major repairs. based off of my experiences i believe the engine is faulty and can lead to safety issues while driving. in a 3 year period vehicle has been quoted as needing in excess of $20,000 in engine repairs. air intake clogs with oil. oil system leaks from multiple locations to include engine oil cooler, and intake runners. back engine oil seals leak. turbo clogs with engine oil. vehicle has 46,000 miles on it. *tr

The gear shift module is badly designed it uses a brush that drags along contacts to tell tranny what gear is selected. over time though some of the conductive material starts to rub off and make connections between 2 or more of the contacts, when this happens the ecu and tranny can't tell what gear it's in and goes into limp mode 20 mph max a very dangerous situation i'm lucky i didn't get rearended by a very pissed off semi ruck driver recently. i'm sure some one has been injured and possibly killed by this badly designed and dangerous module.. chrysler and benz were partners in 2007 and benz uses a touchless ( magnetic) system much safer. jeep just keeps on putting in same part no improvements have been made the tcb tells dealer to put in a new part. the only warning sign you might get is all of the circles around the prnd on your dash will be lit showing you the module has no idea what gear it's in but no warning lights or buzzers. this has happened many times since 2010 always with the vehicle moving and all of a sudden very dangerous!!

Driving along trying to pick up speed and just held at 40, wouldn't accelerate. this happened probably 3-4 times. took it to dealer, they couldn't find anything wrong, said transmission operating normal. in 2012 it started not to accelerate beyond 20. i pulled out of a parking lot from a red light and it wouldn't accelerate. i quickly pulled over to the side of the road and called for a tow truck. i was afraid to drive it home. i was afraid i would get somewhere where i couldn't safely pull over. the dealer at that time replaced faulted esm module and said it was fixed and it was covered under my warranty. in july 2014 it happened again, exact same thing. i pulled out from a restaurant onto a highway and had no power, couldn't go over 20. i pulled to the side of the road, turned it off and started it up again and had no problems the rest of the way home. took it again to the dealer and he said there was some update to a recall that it should be fine. 8/21/14 - just last week it did it again. i pulled up to a red light, stepped on the gas when it turned green and had no power. i quickly pulled over and waited and tried to go again, it still had no power. i turned it off and tried one more time, and it worked fine the rest of the way home again. it's a safety hazard to turn onto a highway or busy roadway and have to quickly pull to the side of the road. there isn't always a safe place to do this, and each time there has been people behind me that i was afraid to be rear-ended or causing a pileup. *tr

Bought used 2007 grand cherokee from adams jeep, aberdeen md in nov. 2009. within first month, while traveling around 30 mph, car would not accelerate when pushing on gas pedal despite engine racing. prnd lights all lit up. took car back to dealer and bezel gear selector replaced after paying $100 deductible on extended warranty. same problem occurred 5 months later. dealer charged me for electronic control module updates. one month later, same problem occurred, dealer replaced bezel gear selector again. one month later, same exact problem occurred. this is 4th time taking car in for lack of acceleration while pushing on gas pedal. dealer states unable to fix problem since they cannot reproduce it. this is a huge safety problem as i have almost been hit multiple times when my car fails to accelerate when pushing on gas pedal. chrysler needs to recall the shifter module in these cars before someone gets killed. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate with the illumination of the transmission warning indicator. the contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. the engine was turned off and restarted. the vehicle resumed normally without the warning light illuminated. the failures occurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on three occasions and they were unable to determine the cause of failure. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the gear shifter module was replaced. the failure recurred two times after the repair. the failure mileage was approximately 29,000.
