We have classified the 153 complaints from 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Engine stalls no matter what speed i'm going. happens more often when coming to a stop. it's as if i just turn the key off. when it stalls, i stop and put it in park, turn the key off and start it right back up and take off. it's becoming a dangerous safety concern.
#1. v-8 the vehicle accelerates out of controll when accelerating from a stopped position, no consistently but intermitently' appears to try accerating to 65 mp cruise control. must slam it into neutral to stop the vehicle in city traffic, extremely dangerous. #2. transmission or powertrain is skipping lagging or bucking on acceleration from stopped position and from normal driving at all speeds, under 65 mp. can this be the computer?????
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while approaching a stop, the vehicle inadvertently shifted into neutral. the failure occurred intermittently and without warning. the vehicle was taken to monroeville chrysler jeep 3(651 william penn hwy, monroeville, pa 15146, (412) 856-1422) where the transfer case was repaired twice and the motor as well. the contact stated that the failure recurred. the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing the same failure as listed in nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 (power train, electrical system). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 87,245.
Recall has been open for years regarding the ignition switch but chrysler never has the part. further, this car has numerous reports of braking issues that are sporadic and it caused me to rear-end a vehicle on nov. 2, luckily at a very low rate of speed. i let my foot off the brake to inch forward and it would not engage again when i pressed it again moments later. mechanic couldn't replicate the issue but that is typical for chrysler it seems.
Anytime i go 50+ mph all i can hear is a roaring noise. we have replaced the whole rear end almost 3 weeks ago thinking maybe that was the problem turns out it not. we bought this car almost a year ago so we are unsure if any recalls on it have been taken care of.
The transfer case has not worked properly and the car lurches and stutters while driving. there was a recall involving the transfer case and the computer, but there has not been one for the transfer case itself, which i believe was compromised from due to the computer issue before it was fixed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at any speed, the vehicle decelerated without warning. the vehicle was taken to tacoma dodge chrysler jeep ram (253-475-7300, located at 4101 s tacoma way, tacoma, wa 98409) where it was diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. the alternator was replaced, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where the egr valve was replaced, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 80,000. *tt consumer replaced my ignition switch. *jb
Transfer case, suspension and ignition switch seems to be causing major issues after 105,000 miles and the "warranty" just ended just before all these issues started happening. when tried to start once the engine shuttered then turned off. started up after that, but then it has issues wanting to accelerate and can feel the jeep struggling at times to switch gears or whatever the transfer case may assist in. also have noticed the suspension has start to rock.
Tl *the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle downshifted independently without warning. the contact stated that the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the electronic shift module failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000. the vin was not available.
Jeep shifts out off park when key is not in the ignition. i do not need to press the brake peddle to shift out off park. jeep has had the 14v-438 recall.
Takata recall all the dash lights come on from battery, check engine, low tire pressure, code read 0411 & well not pick up speed.
This is my second time in 10 years replacing the gear shift in the transmission in this vehicle.. the gear shift goes out every 5 years.. it starts with the engine light coming on then all the gears have the circle around all the gears . for example it likes like i'm in drive, reverse, park and neutral. when i'm parked. then from there if i' have to stop or yield for and reason it's sometimes hesitante to move. very scary
Traveling on i 95 . car engine light came on and car shifted into a gear that felt neutral. i put the hazard lights on and slowly moved over. basically dove off exit in neutral. engine off and restarted. ok for a while then happened again. garage said that part is back ordered which is alarming to me. is this a frequent problem?
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle would independently start, an abnormal anti-freeze odor was present inside the vehicle, and the shifter was difficult to operate. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 141,000.
Soon after the p41 ignition switch recall, while driving 1 mile, the instrument cluster gauges stopped working-speedo, gas, etc , all warning lights illuminated . information messages in the ic noted "service required : and transmission -over the temperature allowed u1403,u1411,u110e, u110f and others all implausible signals to ic. while driving transmission an road speed decreased immediately while at speed and engine and transmission to not operate in a predictably safe operation. these are the symptoms that the recall was to repair. what is the next step?
The transfer case on my vehicle (2007 jeep srt) went out. i took to two repair shops and dealer and every place indicated that this has been a long standing issue with these vehicles. i then filed a complaint with chrysler and the case manager indicated that my complaint would stay internal and could not advise me on where to file a complaint for a safety or mechanical defect. i then did some research and it appears it should go the nhtsa. with such a common defect and with such a large scale issue (dealership has part for sale for $4000-$6000 not including labor) i do feel this should be considered a recall.
I was driving on county road about 45 mph battery light came on then abs light then message service anti lock brake system, engine and brake light they stayed on till i got home there was also a very low humming noise when i turned off car it would not start again. in morning it started i turned it off and it will not start again. battery and engine light on. 11/19/15 recalls for ignition switch, and reprogram final drive controller module were performed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 40 mph, a warning message illuminated on the instrument panel indicating that the four wheel drive system needed to be serviced. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transfer case differential clutch failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 130,000.
Complaint submitted in regard to fca us llc recall p41 nhtsa 14v-438 first complaint filed 12/12/2014 odi number: 10663969 on 8/19/2015, i was at the mukwonago post office to send a package. i came back out to my vehicle, started it and attempted to back out of my parking space when the steering wheel locked up and the engine shut off. another car was on its way down the parking isle i was parked in and almost hit me because the driver was anticipating that my vehicle would have kept moving. i got out of my vehicle and apologized to the young lady who had almost hit me and explained to her the situation. she said, "you should really get that fixed. you could cause an accident." i was upset, to say the least, but needed to get back to work. i started my vehicle two more times, in addition to the first attempt, and attempted to put it in gear - no success. finally, i was able to keep the engine running and proceed to my route.

Drove from ca to az. turned jeep engine off !!! visit with son & leave trailer i had been towing. i turn ignition on put in drive never touched accelerator. jeep speed out quickly (sudden acceleration) out of driveway towards home across street - two cars in driveway. grabbed steering wheel veering jeep away from home & two parked vehicles. went down embankment and did 360. i flipped jeep and it stopped ended up on passenger side. neighbors & son saw entire crash. could not breathe due to seat belt crushing chest & me being upside down. son pulled seat belt from crushing me. ambulance to er and no neuro on duty told could take me vegas 2 to 3 hours away. finally went to neuro told post concussion syndrome. after little help, went to boulder co neuro center and told post concussion syndrome, ptsd and vestibular problems was in rehab therapy one month. keep jeep in garage to protect the evidence but no attorney firm would take case as stated the crash "did not impact the rest of my life" told by az attorney firm. i worked fed courts in los angeles, ca over 20 years and can say emphatically there was no driver error. i kept for 3 months looking for attorney firm but in the interim i found [xxx] with consumer affairs and realized other people who dealt with same "sudden acceleration" were given results "driver error". i made a report with consumer affairs and was told to bring my story to your agency as well. aaa insurance company totaled jeep and picked it up june 30th and said " not driver error" but mechanical. please investigate and inform others to protect themselves and their families. a recall needs to happen. nothing can help me now but i can tell you i am telling everyone on social media and getting the word out as this never should have happened. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Car consistently stalls when coming to a complete stop or idling. *tr
My daughter was driving the vehicle on i-40 between raleigh and wilmington. she was going the speed limit and the car just shut off. this is the 5th time this has happened and we have had it into 2 different jeep dealerships. i drove down and picked her up and drove the car 90 miles further on i-40 without incident. when we arrived in wilmington and exited the interstate i noticed what i believe was the transmission downshift being abrupt and jerky. *tr
Hi i am in canada but my issue below affect dozens of vehicles i know of in the usa i see that you are investigating the 2014-2015 jeep grand cherokee not going into park. i also have been having this problem with my 2007 jeep grand cherokee laredo diesel with mercedes engine as have many others who are online . i have put my car in park and had it roll away on a several occasions (more than 7). i have had my transmission rebuilt 3 times, transfer case and transmission replaced completely from another vehicle and the problem persists. it happens primarily in the winter below 30 degrees (-4c). i am not the only one with this issue and have conversations with many owners across the usa. it also happens while driving at highway speed that the transmission will go into neutral causing safety issues, engine redlining if cruise is on then the transmission going into limp mode, requiring me to cut across traffic under no power to the shoulder and turning off and on the car (to reset limp mode) to get going again. this has happened more than 50 times, sometimes coming very close to collision as the vehicle slows quickly when power fails. my mechanic says its software or electronicrelated but the dealer says all software is up to date. i have spent almost $9,000.00 to date trying to find this and no one has a clue. i know this is a defect but feel that you have the power to move this forward thank you for your time and hope for a reply *tr
I have 2 recalls from jeep and nothing has been done for years, they are p41/nhtsa 14v-438 and p73. every time i go into the dealership they say they can't get the parts. the forms they send out don't have a date on them so they are smart enough not to have any incriminating evidence as to how long the customer sits on these and they are waiting for an accident or the customer sells the car and the paper work gets lost. these vehicle manufacturers need to be jacked up a little bit and be given an ultimatum to get these recalls fixed before something serious is caused by there criminal intent to not to fix these recalls.
The transfer case is bad ,the car only have 30000 but the transfer case is bad and it shakes over sixty and once u brake the whole car shakes ,i took it to the dealer and they said its a transfer case bad and the 4wd is not working ,and the ignition switch keep killing the battery. *tr
I was driving late friday night (11/14)/early saturday morning (11/15) to waterford, wi from palmyra, wi and my vehicle shut off causing me to become startled, which then caused me to deviate from my lane and then was pulled over by a town of mukwonago police officer. i could have killed someone if oncoming traffic was involved! i then received a ticket for unsafe lane deviation and was taken to waukesha county jail under the assumption that i was drinking and driving after i attempted to show the officer the recall for my vehicle. pending my court date, i could receive a possible owi charge. i am very upset about this because that is an $800 fine and will also cause my insurance premium to increase. *tr
While driving my 2007 jeep grand cherokee (11/8/14) i was at a red light and the vehicle just cut off! i heard a beeping sound and noticed all the lights on the dash board were off while the car was in "drive". i put the car in "park" & turned the key in the "off" position--waited a few minutes & started the car again. i had my mother with me & told her about the "recall" & this was it...the ignition switch (recall p41). we decided to go home & when i pulled in her driveway, the same thing happened again...the engine just cut off! i'm very afraid to drive my jeep now...this could have happened while i was on the highway!! something needs to be done now!! this is my only means of transportation!! what procedures do you have in place to assist people until you are able to get the replacement part(s)? lives are at stake!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 13v175000 (electrical system, power train) and 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the parts to do the repairs were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure.
While accelerating the vehicle lost power and the prndl lights all illuminated. after a few seconds power resumed. this has happened several times and the check engine light has come on. we have been told its error code u0404 and the electronic shift module needs to be replaced. it appears this is a very common occurrence for this year vehicle. it is a safety concern because if it happened during high traffic times it could certainly cause an accident. *tr
It usually takes a good 10 to 15 minutes to start sometimes then when i do get it started i have the same issues that i have read about on this website and many other websites. the car will not go over 20 miles per hour and you have to pull off the road, turn off the vehicle, wait and turn it back on. it is almost like the jeep has to be reset. i have talked with several people and had the codes ran. it keeps coming up that it is the solenoid and starter. i have read on many blogs about the same issue that the solenoid wires are not protected from rain water in this vehicle and it causes them to corrode or go bad all together. this is an issue that needs to be recalled. if they know that the wires are not protected from rain water then there needs to be some type of protection that they can put over them or install a different kind of wire. this is costing people hundreds of dollars to repair something that should have never been an issue. also this is a safety hazard because when we pull out on the road we expect our vehicle to excel properly and go over 20 miles per hour. *tr
While driving car it bucked several times and then would not go over 25 mph. i bought the car in aug 2009, 1 time was nov 12 2009, then again mar 15 2013 and then again jul 21 2014. all three times the esm shift module had to be replaced. the first time the dealer replace but the last two times i have had to replace at a thousand dollars. i have called chrysler as this is a recurring problem they have assigned a case number [xxx]. in checking online for issues this is a recurring problem with jeep grand cherokee's. if i had been on the highway and the speed dropped to 25 mph i could have been rear ended or worse killed. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated while attempting to accelerate the vehicle, the vehicle failed to accelerate and was not shifting into gears, all of the warning lights illuminated, the vehicle over heated and lost power. also the anti freeze was spraying from the radiator cap. the vehicle was towed to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the starter, tires and tire sensors was replaced. the vin was unavailable. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was unavailable. mf
N23 recall was done a while back which has since then turned into no 4 wheel low/ neutral. i was advised by the dealer as have many people it seems that it's the transfercase actuator motor so i replaced it myself it was good for a few weeks then came up on the dash again service 4 wheel drive system. chrysler has since came out with a reflash it looks like and when i called in today to see what it's about they are going to charge me for it. it's stupid i have to pay to fix their mistake. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while park, the shift lever was shifted into drive and the vehicle began to jerk violently. the contact noticed that all four gears were selected on the instrument cluster panel as the check engine warning and transmission light illuminated. the contact had to tap the shift lever before the gear engaged. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unavailable. updated 03/30/15*lj updated 9/20/2017*cn
After application of safety recall n23/ nhtsa 13v-175. reprogram final drive controller module. 2005 - 2010. (wk) jeep grand cherokee. 2006 - 2010. (xk) jeep commander, the transfer case of our grand cherokee could not be shifted out of 4-high to 4-low. this was discovered while attempting to use the vehicle to launch a 7000 pound sail boat on a marina launch ramp about a week and a half after the n23 reprogram was made by an authorized dealer. this demonstrates the software is defective and potentially dangerous by creating an unexpected safety issue. *tr
the transfer case is not allowed to go into neutral which is a requirement to tow behind my motorhome. i am 2,000 miles from home and the fault would require my wife to drive the jeep home instead of having it towed behind the motorhome. it is a safety issue as we take turns driving so there is an alert driver at all times, driving separate vehicles would require twice the drive time. this issue was caused by chrysler when they did recall n23. the recall was not properly tested resulting in the transfer case to not work properly. *tr
After receiving the recall n23, my vehicle is unable to shift into 4x4-lo. the dealership has acknowledged that this is related to the recalls update. chrysler refuses to offer a solution to this. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at 50 mph and while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle began to lose power without warning. the vehicle was able to restart. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact also received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the repair was not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.
I am writing to you requesting your assistance in finding out what is wrong with my 2007, 67,000 mile jeep grand cherokee laredo. for approximately four months while driving the car it has been randomly miss firing, bucking and surging, and stalling when coming to a complete stop. the unpredictability of the cars speed, bucking and surging, and stalling when stopped is a major safety concern to me because this occurs without notice on both street and freeway driving. i have taken my car to the nearest jeep service dealer, crystal chrysler jeep three times now and they have not been able to diagnose the cause to this problem. in fact, my car has been in the service department at crystal chrysler for nearly three weeks now, and they cannot identify specifically what is causing this malfunction. my frustration over my beloved jeep grows because without finding the cause there is no telling when my car will be ready. this experience now has me questioning the reliability of jeep vehicles and the confidence in service dealers like crystal chrysler. please help me find out what is wrong with my jeep vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle independently decelerated and became resistant to acceleration attempts without warning. the failure occurred intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 113,000.
After having the n23 recall performed, the vehicle transfer case refused to go into either neutral or 4 wheel low drive. dealer reprogrammed the dtcm and tipm and corrected the problem. this was for the original owner. i purchased the vehicle in feb 2014. after working correctly for several days, the problem recurred. it is not safe the have an off road vehicle that cannot be reliably be shifted into 4 wheel low range, which locks the transfer case and provides true 4 wheel drive. as a result, of this safety concern and fiat chrysler's failure to provide a solution, i have installed a fdcm that has not had the n23 recall performed. this may also be unsafe, but can be mitigated by using the parking brake. fiat chrysler needs to provide a real fix to the original problem that does not cause other safety issues. *tr
On two occasions the transfer case has shifted to neutral on it own. one time it left me in the middle of the road with traffic. also, 4wd low rand of transfer case does not work. there was a recall done, known as the "n23 recall" first, it was done incorrectly resulting in no low range. second, it was redone correctly and it worked as it should. now a couple months later it is shifting to neutral on it's own and no 4low. it is a known problem among jeep owners. the dealers only want to replace parts at customer's cost and very unsuccessfully. *tr
When stopped at a stop light on a very congested road. i pressed the accelerator to proceed when the light turned green. i experienced a slow sluggish start so i pressed the accelerator further to the floorboard, there was no response by the engine. car proceeded at a slow rate of speed (10 mph with rpm's at 2500). i had to pull off to the side of the road and restart car which did somewhat fix the problem. i have experienced this numerous times now, usually occurs when the car is shifting in 1st and 2nd gear. my concern is when i pull into a right of way and the car does not properly accelerate i put myself and passengers at a safety risk of being collided in the rear of my car by another car. *tr
Had the transmission warranty recall update done, now i am getting a "service 4wd" light. in doing research this is very common on jeep's who had the recent warranty update. jeep needs to correct this problem. in some cases dealers are replacing actuators under warranty and in some not. my dealer, ed tomko jeep in avon lake, ohio, would like to charge me to take a look at it. chrysler/jeep needs to pay to correct this problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle rolled away. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the actuator needed to be replaced. the contact also mentioned that the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number 13v175000 (electrical system , power train). the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 109,000. the vin was not available.
Jeep performed an n23 recall on 10/5/13 on my vehicle as a response to a former consumer complaint about jeep grand cherokee vehicles slipping into neutral while parked. after completing the recall, which reprogrammed the final drive controller module, i left the dealership and discovered that my vehicle could no longer enter 4 wheel drive low and receives a service 4wd system light. i have been notified by other owners that this recall had a similar effect on their jeeps. i contacted the dealer service department and they knew of no available fix. the service tech manager stated that 1 in 3 vehicles that have had the n23 recall result in the same problem. he says it is likely that 1 in 3 is the same proportion of people who actually attempt to use their 4 wheel drive low. on approximately dec 6, 2013, during an ice storm, my vehicle became stuck on the side of the road. i needed to utilize my 4wd low to get back onto the roadway and was not able to. *tr
