2005 jeep has been slipping into neutral since february 2013. it caused me to have an accident because i couldn't get out of the way of rear-oncoming traffic. no major damage was done thankfully! a few weeks later i experienced a rollaway. i went into the sitter to pick up my son. after about 5 minutes of being inside i my jeep roll across the street! i go running outside, opened the door and pulled up the emergency break...just missing an embankment! since the "neutral" thing started i have had several service lights come on. my mechanic performed a diagnostic check and he said its all electrical. also, i've had issues with the front passenger window going up/down slower than the rest of the windows since 3 months into purchase. other issues are cracked door handles (both front doors), replacing taillight kit, ac switch-a few times as it would only work on high. *tr
The vehicle will not idle when hitting the brakes at a stop sign or traffic light or coming to a complete stop resulting in a rear end collision. from the vehicle not maintaining a normal idle position.this is a danger to the vehicle occupants and anybody else on the road .jeep is aware of the problems and have not come up with a solution for the customers.i have seen this same thing reported to the nhtsa onrecord a million times and will see this issue gets addressed if i have to call a senator that is a good friend of mine somebody is going to answer for this! to read the amount of complaints that have been reported to the nhtsa and nothing has been done is unacceptable and i can assure you the nhtsa better investigate this immediately. this pertains to jeep grand cherokee 2005 v8 4.7 liter motor found in 57% of all jeeps that were built. you can go to youtube and see this in a video of this happening and its also on the jeep forums web site posted a million times. *tr
vehicle sputters after filling up with gas. lasts about 10 to 15 miles. *tr
when attempting to start the vehicle, i heard one click and nothing happened. lights and gauges worked, but nothing else. jeep was jumped and then started right up. it went two months and is now doing the same again. within a week, it has done it 3 times. battery replaced and starter checks out fine. also gauges dim and then come back on within seconds. the alarm goes off whenever it feels like it. doors sometimes will not unlock with the fob which sets the alarm off. nav system only works when it feels like it. low setting on heater doesn't work. this lemon needs recalled!!! *tr
While driving for about 30 minutes, the gears changed from drive to the 3rd gear. transmission reves up and the check engine light comes on. after coming to a stop, and restarting it, it sometimes goes back to drive mode, but reverts back to the third gear, displays "3" and stays there. took it to a mechanic, could not fix. dealer claims no recalls for this problem, but online blogs show plenty of people with the same problem. help. *tr

I "recall" driving one evening on a major highway in my recently purchased 05 grand cherokee when suddenly i lost all power. i was traveling in a congested area at 65 mph with lots of semi's surrounding me. thank the god's i happen to be on the perfect incline leading to an off ramp at the time of this engine power failure. i'd hate to imagine the out come had i been one lane over a few seconds prior! my son who was only 5 at the time was a bit freaked out from the whole ordeal. but my biggest complaint is the fact that i'm a jeep girl and a faithful one but after my constant battle with this less then desirable hunk of junk i'm thinking of cheating with a ford! after my daily failures with this thing i did some research and found that this vehicle far surpasses the two recalls in my short 3 years of ownership. i'm most upset with my dealership due to the fact they forgot to mention a few hundred drivers of this prior rental truck with an accident that was more than a skip over the curb. they offered but never made good on providing me with owners manual...guess they were worried i would notice the past safety recalls that were never done. so i have had and continue to have every system malfunction on this heap known to mechanics. i'm sick and tired of paying for things that "jeeps are known for" when in truth its all been a result to the viscous cycle of recalls that were either never done or never the proper fix to begin with. so i beg the heads, money and engineers of chrysler group llc to get your [xxx] together and do the right thing by removing the 2005 jeep grand cherokee 5.7 liter with a hemi death trap off the roads! its quite obvious from the first recall only three months after its manufacturer date this truck was meant to fail...!!! so please stop the duct it fix it or[xxx] it! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I saw the news this morning that chrysler jeep has admitted to a defect where the jeep cherokees (2005) turns off unexpectedly and there are issues with the airbag. my jeep has turned off/stalled soon after i have started driving it on a number of occasions. it sort of stalls with no power going to the engine and then a few seconds later kicks in and moves. this usually happens right after i pull out of a parking space or pull away from the curb to start driving in a lane of traffic. i have brought the car in and discussed the problem a couple times and been told there is no problem. as a separate or related issue, during one of my first services at a jeep dealership when i left the dealership warning lights turned on -- i went back to have the issue addressed and was finally told on the fourth visit that there was a faulty software upgrade and not to worry unless a light went on and stayed on (i didn't have time to pursue the issue and i got no where with the dealership). more recently it has been the airbag light that goes on and off (if is now off). finally, i went to the chrysler website this morning and entered my vin and was told there was no recall or notices. i hope that the nhtsa requires chrysler to address this issue and/or it is addressed through a class action. *tr
