My vehicle has, on multiple and separate occasions, spontaneously accelerated. thankfully no one and nothing has been hurt yet because i had time to throw it into neutral and stand on the brake, but it's a matter of time. someone will get killed if this issue isn't fixed soon as i assume there are tons of these on the road.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while depressing the brake pedal, the contact started the engine and placed the gear shifter in drive. suddenly, the vehicle inadvertently accelerated and struck a parked vehicle. the police and fire departments were present, but no reports were filed. there were no injuries. on two previous occasions, the vehicle was taken to baxter chrysler/dodge/jeep (2010 s 124th circle, la vista, nebraska 68128) for the same failure in january and march, but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was never repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted for the recent failure. the approximate failure mileage was 112,000.

Ok i'm fully aware my vehicle is under 3 recalls well technically speaking 2 cause ones a recall on the recall waiting for that recall to be recalled. this whole process is insane my vehicle has turned off while driving has unparked itself shifted on its own had the lights flicker i have even been pulled over mutiple times for these problems twice when the jeep decided it was gonna stop accelerating 3 times because the lights start flickering sometime just inside sometimes just the outside and most recently all the lights just stopped working vehicle still running made it about 10 feet after the lights went out and sure enough before i could even pull of tbe road blue lights i've had the vehicle less then 60 days it's stalled while sitting still it's stalled while driving it's shut off while idle and while driving. its shifted on its own while driving and idle most recently i was checking the transmission fluid with the car in park in my driveway the support arms are dead so i used my handy dandy block o wood to hold it open well i pull the dipstick from the transmisson it was a little low so i turn around to grab my funnel and a bottle of fluid and i before i can even turn all the way around my parked car is rolling towards me and so i didnt get pinned between my jeep and my shed i tired to step into the vehicle to prevent my legs from getting stuck well i'm pretty tall and my head hit he hood witch lifted it slightly and my block o wood fell out witch lead to the hood pushing my face into the running car luckily a busted flip and a slight burn to my neck was all that happened now i understand that a block o wood is not standard safety equipment and i understand that a car rolling in netural a couple feet will more then likely not pin anyone but all i knew was the parked car was moving i didn't know if it was gonna speed up or what i need more room
Electronic shifter module had gone out. park reverse neutral in and drive are the only functions available. to downshift from drive fourth, third, second, and first have lost all ability. primarily the driving of the vehicle is through the streets of san francisco and the ability to downshift is necessary to avoid collision and to climb the steep hills. not only for myself, but for anybody else with this problem for example: driving to an exit ramp from speeds of 65 and needing to decelerate to 25 would be very difficult and major where on the brake system. now for climbing the hills of san francisco in a high gear puts a major stress on the transmission. please take into consideration that the electronic shifter module should be recalled for safety . this vehicle has already been recalled for an ignition and has been replaced but i received several notices from jeep starting out as simple and is nicely put his please see your service dealership there is a recall and to the extreme of receiving notices that said your vehicle has a recall and you are putting other peoples lives in danger by neglecting to have it fixed. i have done my homework and the ignition and was told from a dealership that it was not necessary since i only use the key with no keychain. i have also done my homework on the electronic shifter module and there are many people who have made videos or testimonies about their jeeps having the problem of the ability not to downshift through the electronic shifter module. in the past 12 years i pray that there has been no accidents in direct relation to this electronic shifter module but if you're a driver you know that every gear on the vehicle is there for a reason and rely on the safety of the vehicle.

Vehicle completely shuts off while driving, with 4 attempts by the dealership service, vehicle continues to shut off while driving. *tr
Vehicle will not shift into correct gear when accelerating from a dead stop. tops out at 3,000 rpms at 60mph. this is an intermittent problem. but will at least happen 2 times a day. when it happens you have to pull over and shut off the engine off and restart. this most likely will fix the problem. this is very dangerous when in traffic. this typically happens when you stop at a traffic light and start to take off. i had the censers changed in the transmission but didn't fix the problem. the vehicle has less than 100,000 miles on it. it is getting worse every day know.
I was leaving the car wash and after putting the grand cherokee in drive with my foot on the brake it accelerated on its own and the brakes were not responsive. unable to stop or slow down, to avoid traffic, i crashed into a stone wall. the car is totaled and i had serious injury to my head as the airbag also did not deploy.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the cruise control failed to function and the instrument panel failed. the failure was intermittent. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was unavailable. parts distribution disconnect. updated 02/26/16*lj *js
In rush hour traffic, the car would lose power everytime the car came to a stop or idled. 3 days later, the car lost power in speed limit traffic after going over the railroad tracks. since then, it loses power at every stop. if i am not aware, the car rolls into oncoming traffic! i took the car to my nearest dealer. they confirmed that it was the ignition switch that has been recalled and a part hasn't been sent to dealers. i called chrysler and all they did was put me on a list! they apologized for me not having a car to drive and that was it! they would not provide me with a timeline of when the part would be ready. they refused to provide me with a loaner vehicle while it was off the road. i have lost my mode of transportation unless i want to risk my and my family's life, and they say there is nothing they can do even though they are at fault!
A few weeks/months after the purchase of my jeep about 2 years ago, i noticed that my cruise control had stopped working and the abs light had come. i checked my fuses and relays and they were ok. then a day or so later i was driving on the interstate and my check engine light and my brake lights came on. my jeep then seemed to downshifted itself. it felt as if the transmission had locked up, it slowed to about 30mph and would not shift onto another gear. i pulled over killed the motor. after a few attempts to drive it, i turned the key over and noticed the break and engine lights were off so i attempted to drive home and was sucessfull. this started to happen more and more often. i noticed that it mainly happened when either i was running my ac or it was wet/raining outside. i then started researching jeep problems and recalls. i came across the daminoncrysler recall no. 13. the recall had described the issue i was having, so i researched my vin and it staled that the recall no. 13 has already been completed on jeep. now my jeep is stuck in limp mode and will not reset. it will not shift and the abs, brake and engine lights stay on. is there a way to find out exactly what service did they did when it was recalled in 2005 (if any)? i dont know what to do
Vehicle began uncontrolled acceleration after being put in drive into a tree
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the accelerator pedal traveled to the floorboard and the vehicle accelerated violently, which prevented the vehicle from being able to stop. the vehicle was shifted into neutral in order for the vehicle to stop. the contact mentioned that the accelerator pedal would become stuck. the vehicle was restarted and the engine rpm's revved excessively and the accelerator pedal was able to release. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 130,000.
When i was driving my 2005 grand cherokee, the vehicle turned itself off causing me to lose braking and steering power. the ignition recall is what is going on however chrysler/jeep does not have the parts to fix the problem nor are the offering any possible solutions. they are refusing a rental car due to the issue not being life threatening. however, having a vehicle shut itself off while driving is very life threatening to myself, passengers in the vehicle and innocent bystanders around me on the road. i am highly dissatisfied with chrysler. *tr
While driving approximately 55 mph the etc warning light came on and i lost all control of the throttle control of the car. i manged to coast home at 15 mph speed where i call call the dealer and have the car towed tothe shop for repair. a throttle control module was identified as being shorted and they replaced it at $1508.20 cost to me. prior to this incident my control module went out causing the electric seats to retract and engine begin to shut down. this required a new power module at $1543 cost to me. the recall issued by chrysler for the ignition switch problem nhtsa 14v-438 has yet to be resolved by chrysler since september 2014. i feel the earlier electrical problems could be very likely related to the ignition switch recall and i had to pay for the other repairs, also the plastic support that holds all the interior door handles secure to the door have all broken because of a know design failure chrysler has on these vehicles. chrysler has refused to repair the defect and this car is a danger to anyone who is in it while driving. if an accident occurred or a fire in the car, you could not escape from car in time to prevent serious injury. if there is no recall for this defect there should be one. updated 11/06/15*lj updated 12/12/2017*cn
While rounding a corner husbands knee bumped into ignition switch, car shut down. received recall notice in sept. 2014 and have contacted local jeep dealer several times, still no parts to fix this problem. we are following suggested handling of key fob, only the key in ignition. the danger became very present to us last night as we had just gotten off the highway where we were driving at speeds of 65 mph. this would have had a vastly different outcome going that fast. how long is it going to take before this fix takes place? we don't want to die!! had i been driving instead of my husband i would have surely panicked and wouldn't be sitting here writing you now. chrysler needs to get moving on this before we encounter a dreaded accident. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle decelerated, the rpms revved, and the abs warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the speed sensor and the tire sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. in addition, the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 96,000. the vin was not available.
Loss of power while driving, wont shift, no cruise control, brake lights on, . this happens at lest one a week. *tr
I was parked in a parking lot with the engine idling and the jeep in park, with the emergency brake engaged. after approximately 5 minutes, the engine suddenly revved up and my jeep surged forward, striking the car parked directly in front of me. i pressed hard on the brake and the jeep surged forward again before the engine died and the jeep stopped. the e-brake was still engaged, but the gear, which had been in park, was now in drive. at no time did i come into contact with the gear shifter. *tr
I have had issues with this vehicle recalls p73 and 41 for over a year. the truck has been sitting in my driveway for a year!!! i have notified jeep numerous times, and yet the part has not been produced. i have been left with no car for 1 year. i have had to pay for uber, taxis, rentals, buses, trains, and have walked everywhere due to this recall. it has drained my battery. jeep has not once compensated me. every time i call, they say next month. this had been for one year now! the car lost power while driving on the interstate on 66, 395, and 495 interstates. what is it going to take for jeep to do something? i had one rep said we'll reimburse me, how are you going to reimburse me, for a part that's not even in production. i reported this issue to the jeep dealer where i reside last year about the lights flickering and the please fix the electrical brake system error, the refused , because they stated, they never saw it. i was told i can rent a car for them, on my own dime for 40.00 a day!! i shouldn't have to when it's jeep's recall. i have lost out on jobs, because of transportation. this is really serious.
Placed vehicle in reverse and it accelerated by itself, had to hit brakes and turn engine off to avoid accident, then when i parked vehicle and placed in park it did it again. *tr
I have called several times and chrysler cannot tell me when this part for the recall p41 will be replaced. please note no accident has occurred but i think its criminal that they cannot give me a time when this will be replaced!!! *tr
While driving the lights on the instrument cluster, radio, ac and lights shut off as well as loss of power steering and engine shut off. including the brakes, accelerator, and all electrical system. leaving me with absolute no control over the vehicle. i noticed the ignition key had slipped into the forward off position while the vehicle was in motion, creating a deadly hazard as it results in loss of all functionality of the vehicle. when i tried to restart the vehicle, my vehicle will not start up right away has to turn the key couple of times to get my vehicle started. *tr
When backing into parking space the car took off like a rocket ship/full throttle (5.7 hemi) like it had a mind of it's own. the result was property damage (unknown amount) and car damage over $7600.00 not including car rental for 2 weeks. chrysler sent inspector to body shop and their determination was they found nothing wrong and said the case is closed. a jeep/chrysler dealership replaced the throttle body january 31, 2014 under warranty. we know this was not driver error. it was the scariest 15 seconds of our lives and could have easily killed someone. now we wonder when will it happen again? we would like to know, has there ever been an engine going to full throttle accident involving a 2005 jeep/chrysler product? *tr
It has happened on several occasions now; however, the first time my truck completely shut off, i was driving ~35mph then slowed down a bit to turn and suddenly had no power. it started back up with out issue, but it was terrifying, as i was in the middle of an intersection. most recently, i was driving with my wife and kids in the truck and a similar incident occurred. i was driving ~25 mph when the engine just shut off. again, it started on the first attempt. *tr
I was pulling into a space to park, was coasting into spot did not have my foot on the gas. my car made a loud noise and shot forward -up over a curb and through a wooded area until i hit a trailer. prior to this happening my gauges in my car were all flicking on and off on my dashboard. i reported the incident to my insurance company and had the body work done. the insurance company will not cover the cause of the accident only the accident itself. my insurance company sent one of their appraisers over to the body shop at the dealership where i purchased the car and had the work done and was told that the same incident happened to one of the guys that worked at the body shop while he was pulling my car back into one of their garages. i am supposed to pick up my car because the body work is complete but i am afraid to drive the car again and feel that this is a major safety concern. i purchased my car from this dealership 3 years ago, it was used when i bought it. do i have any rights as far as having them test and repair the car at their expense? *tr
After dealer performed recall 13v175000, traction control is inoperative but no lights are illuminated to indicate the failure of the traction control system. also, shifting the transfer case is inoperative. no warning lights or informational messages are displayed to indicate the loss of functionality. dealer has cleared codes and replaced parts multiple times, but the problem remains. safety issues are: 1. driving in remote areas in low range, and being unable to shift into high range prevents driving on paved roads... which could leave a driver stranded. 2. failure of traction control system could result in loss of control, especially in winter. *tr
Tl* the contact owns 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated while entering a parking space, the vehicle abnormally accelerated and crashed into a parked vehicle. the contact was not injured. a police report was not filed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 65,000.
As i pulled into my apartment complex around 5:30am on 8/08/2013, i noticed a loud "thud" sound and my jeep became stalled in the driveway. i pressed gently on the gas pedal to move my vehicle out of oncoming traffic, but the jeep wouldn't move and then finally jolted into drive without me pressing on the gas pedal. i was able to coast to a parking spot. the service 4-wheel drive indicator light came on the dash before i shut the ignition off. the vehicle has been serviced appropriately and efficiently over the past 2 years since i purchased it. i called shore tire on 8/9/2013 to set up an appointment for a mechanic to look at my vehicle. i was able to drive the jeep at 10mph a mile down the road on 8/12/2013 to the service shop. i was informed the parking brake ad dislodged itself from the shaft, dismantling the rear backing plate system, left rear abs sensor, left rear axle/hub and damaged the rear rotors. i had to pay $1,320.30 for parts and labor. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving 5 mph, the vehicle independently accelerated to 35 mph with the illumination of the traction warning light. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 112,000. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle's speed increased to 80 mph without warning. the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond causing the contact to engage the emergency brake. the failure recurred on several occasions. also, while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle decelerated without warning. the contact pulled over and the vehicle restarted after several attempts. the failure recurred on several occasions. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
My jeep at times lurches when taking off from a stopped position before it will drive normally. at times when slowing down and not coming to a complete stop the rpms will jump and not go down causing the vehicle to not continue to go forward. i have to pull over and turn ignition off, turn back on and go. this is very dangerous, especially if trying to get on highway or in traffic on a city street. *tr
Exact same scenario.... traveling down the road, stopped at a light and car went into limp mode with the esp mode disabled lit up on the dash. car was idling at just under 2k rpm and would not accelerate. car normally idles at just under 1k rpm. with my foot on the brake the car wanted to drive forward, light turned green and let off the brake, i was doing 20mph without my foot on the gas. i pulled over and shut the car off, restarted and ran fine for a day. next day i broke down 5 times coming home from work. car would run fine and all of a sudden i would feel a power surge in acceleration and i knew it was coming, next stop light car would start to idle funny and light turns green, no power. no matter how hard i smashed the gas pedal, rpms would not move from just under 2k. i shut the car off, restarted and took off like normal. im going to the dealer tomorrow to have it checked out and im taking statements from this page to show the dealer that there are many people having this problem and cannot fix it.. i am positive jeep knows about this problems and will not admit to it. hey if we have enough people can any say "class action law suit"???? oh yeah remember i said i have video of this??? because everyone said dealer could not replicate the problem or figure it out? i also have a 15,000$ paper weight in my driveway that's worth no more than 400$ at the local scrap yard. i've had to many problems with this jeep and this is the last straw. jeeps are junk, and remember "its a jeep thing", you wouldn't understand. yeah they are right on that, i don't think anyone understands!!! i also have recorded video of this if anyone from jeep wants to contact me. *tr
While traveling at highway speed the electronic throttle control system of the vehicle completely failed placing the vehicle into limp mode as indicated by the flashing warning lights and the dashboard display reading "esp disabled". the vehicle reduced speed drastically without driver input to do so. were it not for the awareness and capability of the driver following the vehicle, this drastic reduction in speed would have caused a vehicular collision on an incredibly busy main thoroughfare. the affected vehicle suffered a complete loss of throttle control and the engine stayed at approximately 2000 rpm's regardless of driver input to the throttle pedal. maximum speed dropped to no more than 15 mph. stopping the vehicle completely at traffic control devices was difficult due to the constant high rpm the engine was maintaining. the vehicle was taken to the service department of the nearest jeep/chrystler/dodge dealership where it was troubleshot. the electronic throttle body was replaced consequent of the diagnostic check ran on the vehicle. the next 30 miles driven in vehicle were uneventful. the next day the exact same malfuntion occured again, albeit on a not so busy road (thankfully). conversations with the service department reveal no confidence inspiring trouble shooting and/or repair procedure for what is apparently a known problem for many products across the corporate line, spanning many model yeas and generations. basically, it was stated that they are aware of the issue but are unsure of what causes it or how to remedy the malfunction. the vehicle is now parked useless in owners driveway until a solution is found and the vehicle can be safely driven again. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 5 mph with the brakes engaged, the vehicle accelerated independently. after the vehicle was turned off and restarted, the vehicle resumed normal operation. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated as he pulled into the driveway within 2 feet of the garage there was sudden acceleration and the vehicle crash into the garage. there was no injuries but the front of the vehicle was damaged. the police was not notified. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who informed the manufacturer of the failure. the manufacturer sent a letter to the contact informing him they were not responsible for the damages and it was not due to any manufacturing defects and offered no other assistance. the failure mileage was 30,000.
The air bags light comes on and stays on, the fuel system light comes on and stays on. when checked by mechanic was told some sort of sensor. the speed control does what it wants it can go from 45mph to 20mph and the vehicle tries to cut itself off i have to immediately put it in neutral to prevent that from happening. *tr
My car was recalled by chrysler under p41/nhtsa 14v-438. that was in july and i just called the dealer and they still don't have the part. how much longer do i have to wait? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle went into limp mode. the traction control light and the esp light illuminated on the instrument panel during the failure. the vehicle's speed then decreased from 30 to 5 mph. the contact maneuvered the vehicle to the shoulder and shut it off. upon restart, the vehicle operated as normal. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the throttle body was dirty and needed to be cleaned. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 98,350.
I began to notice some unexplained acceleration and deceleration. while driving, when the vehicle should downshift, i could feel a bump and noticeable hesitation. that gradually worsened to become major fluctuations in the rpm while both accelerating and decelerating. for instance, while steadily engaging the gas pedal to accelerate, the vehicle sometimes feels jumpy, does not accelerate smoothly, and if you look at the rpm's they jump up and down by 500 - 1000 rpms. also, while coasting to a stop, when i am not braking but just allowing the vehicle to roll to the stop from say 45 mph, the same jumping occurs with the rpms. this sometimes causes the car to lurch forward if the rpms flare at a near stop, and once, as i was pulling out of my driveway, i stopped at the bottom of the drive but the engine flared and pushed the car out onto the roadway by about a foot. eventually, this rpm issue began causing stalling. when i would stop at a traffic light, the engine would jump, and then the rpms would drop to zero and the engine would stall. sometimes after just a few attempts i could restart. twice i needed towed. my regular mechanic was able to replicate the stalling and saw and felt the rpm flares. he found no mechanical issues and suggested it was a computer issue and directed me to a dealership. 2 dealerships could find nothing wrong and sent me away with no fix. so, my regular mechanic did a computer reset which seemed to solve the problem temporarily. reset was at 66,000 miles. now at 72,300, problem is again becoming pronounced. i am getting nowhere with the dealerships and i'm honestly frightened driving this car. i cannot trust the car to accelerate or decelerate properly and i can't be sure the engine won't stall in traffic. *tr
My 2005 jeep grand cherokee (first incident) while turning a corner at approximately 15-20mph revved up, would not shift, and prnd were all lit up on the dash, as well as the engine light came on. after a few starts the engine light has gone off. second incident, from dead stop at a light and accelerating, same issue. engine light goes off again. this has now occurred 4 times within 2 months and is a safety hazard considering the fact that your speed drops down out of no where and can potentially cause a serious accidents, causing harm to car a drivers, especially behind you, them not being aware that you are suddenly about to drop speed without brake lights! *tr
This is a 5.7 hemi engine with 62200 miles. i had driven into a 7-11 parking lot and almost came to a halt deciding whether to park on the right or left. decided to park on the right. car was at around 2 miles per hour, lifted my leg off the accelerator to hit brake, when the car suddenly accelerated, climbed over the sidewalk, sliced and felled a tree and rammed into a laundromat. brake was applied to the point of literally standing on it with whole body weight but car did not respond. finally the car came to a halt although engine was making revving sounds for a few more seconds. luckily nobody was inside the laundromat. air bag did not deploy even though the front was badly damaged. police report was filed. cop was also surprised air bag did not deploy for this hard a crash. the car has been owned by me since new for 7 years and this has never happened. insurance sent a special technician to check, but nothing could be found. car is more than likely totaled at this point. please do something about this, someone can get badly injured for life, or deaths can occur. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle was at a complete stop when it surged forward and crashed into another vehicle. the transmission, slippage, and various other warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel after the failure. during the failure, the contact applied the brakes but the vehicle continued to surge forward. the contact suffered major back injuries as a result. there were major damages to the front end of the vehicle and the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer. the dealer could not diagnose the failure, but the vehicle was repaired. the failure and current mileages were unknown.
We received a recall notice june 2014 for ignition switch. my vehicle dash board, gauges hear, air, everything shuts off at least 5 times a week. i am told from subclass that the part is still not in. in doing research, i have found the some cars completing shut down. some while driving 60 on a highway. this needs to be fixed. i feel that over a year is long enough. i need my jeep fixed and safe to drive around with my 4 year old grandson in the back seat. thanks, deb
