Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle would lunge forward abnormally. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 83,000.

My 2005 jeep grand cherokee started acting up about a year after i purchased it and has progressively gotten worse and worse. it has problems shifting and identifying what gear it is in on a daily basis, for example when i put it in drive from park prnd will all be illuminated like it doesn't know what gear it is in and it will make a loud thud sound. then when you drive it won't shift from first gear and will rev up or it will get stuck in 3rd gear and won't down shift. sometimes it will be driving normal and when i stop at a stop sign and then go to pull out into traffic it will stall right in the middle of traffic and i can't get it to snap out of it! it will also decide that it doesn't know what gear it is in while i am driving on the expressway and will start to rev up and freeze on me. this is very unsettling and dangerous and could defiantly cause a serious accident. from what i have read in other reviews many people have this same problem with their 2005 jeep grand cherokee so it doesn't seem like just a coincidence to me and something should be done. i have taken it to different mechanics and no one can give me an answer as to whats wrong or how to fix it. *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly shut off. the contact also indicated that the speedometer did not function. while depressing the brake pedal, the brakes malfunctioned and the vehicle would not stop. the cause of the failures were not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) was received in september of 2015. after contacting the dealer on multiple occasions, the contact was informed that the parts needed to repair the vehicle were still not available and no estimated time for receiving the parts could be given. the failure mileage was 70,000.

I was driving to the work, a semi truck was front of my jeep,it was a stop sign and the semi truck was stopping and i was slowing down to stop, but my jeep didn't slow down. even i was pressing the brake, didn't stop on time and i crashed to the semi truck. luckily, didn't give any damage to the semi truck , but my jeep end up total lost. after i got this recall from mail, i realize , the accident wasn't my fault, the jeep had a factory defected. i need some one to answer this for me. because i lost my jeep and got another car to go to work. till now i was asking myself how i couldn't stop the jeep and it was only 15 to 20 miles an hours. now i know it wasn't me. *js

Sometimes when i drive the engine feels like it stalls out and my rpm's don't move, all the boxes around prnd light up and the check engine light comes on. i have to pull over and put the car in park or sometimes i have to turn it off. once this is done the car continues to drive like nothing happened but the check engine light will stay on for a day. sometimes it happens on the highway which is very scary to just drop speed down to 40. i have read many blogs about this issue. it happens at random times.

Tla* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at relatively low speeds, the contact applied the brakes and the vehicle abnormally surged forward crashing into another vehicle. one of the vehicle occupants was injured and a police report was filed accordingly. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnosis of the failure. the failure and current mileages were 81,000. updated 11/03/10. *lj

In my 2005 jeep grand cherokee, while traveling on a congested road, approx. 25 mph, i took my foot off the gas to slow down. all of a sudden, the vehicle accelerated on its own. luckily, foot was on the brake hard. i attempted to tap gas pedal with other foot several times while trying to fight through traffic without crashing. i attempted to ease up on brake pedal while trying to pull car over, tapping on cruise control button, making sure that was off. in a state of shock, i actually turned the ignition key off, but the vehicle remained going. soon after, i was able to reach the side of the road with the vehicle still wanting to accelerate and foot still on brake. this terrorizing episode lasted for under a minute before it ended as suddenly as it started. due to the shock, i didn't realize i should have put the car in neutral. after a few minutes, i drove the car home very slow and cautiously, still shaking. i did not notice gauges on dashboard at time of the incident. the next morning, the car was towed to dealership. diagnostic testing, test driving. no codes, no incident replicated. throttle system checked and cleaned. no diagnosis found, suggest to change floor mats. i have driven vehicle for four years, no complaints. this is the first incident which scared the heck out of me. vehicle has 37,500 miles on it. having to pay for diagnostics and towing, we still do not know if it will happen again. my wife and i are both scared! hopefully, it won;t repeat itself. *tr

On dec. 21, 2008,while driving down ih-35, my 2005 jeep grand cherokee suddenly and uncontrollably started accelerating. i felt the pedal leave my foot, and pin to the floor. i tried tapping it a few times, then applied the brakes with no result. i had to shift into neutral and pull over onto the shoulder, where i watched my rpm gauge pin at 6000 rpm for approx. 30 - 45 seconds. it finally went back to normal as i was bringing it to a stop in order to turn the car off. this is the 3rd and most severe time in 6 months this has happened. *tr

While driving west on i-8 in arizona vehicle went completely dead without warning, power steering was lost, etc. fortunately i was able to steer the vehicle onto side of the highway and bring to a stop. traffic was virtually no-existent on this stretch of the road otherwise a crash of some kind would most likely take place. as we were in the middle of now where i immediately attempted to start the vehicle up again which it did without a problem. i was able to drive away and vehicle seemed to drive perfectly normal. i recently had the same problem happen again. and, again, i happen to be on a road with very little traffic so i was able to pull over and again the vehicle started up again without a hitch. i attributed the problem to the location of the ignition switch which makes it almost impossible not to bump into the key with your right knee anytime you're traveling long distances and wind up moving your feet around just to stretch them. i now realize that's a much larger problem than that. *tr

I own a 2005 jeep grand cherokee that has been stalling on me. i looked on youtube and there are other owners with same situation. it has stalled on me and my fiance about 10 times in traffic and at sudden stops. i was going 40 miles an hour on a busy street and it just died in the middle lane. i know chrysler had a recall or bulletin on the newer ones but this is more wide spread then they would like to attest to. there are several other complaints of same situation just type jeep stalling on google and you will see. i was almost in a collision recently and need this resolved please help. *tr

While trying to stop, while my foot was on the brake pedal, the engine started racing and was not able to stop, i ended up hitting the car in front of me, 2 car passengers went to the hospital with minor injuries. contacted jeep and car was checked by factory expert at local dealer , nothing defective was found with brakes . this has happened 2 times before this accident. fortunately, i was able to stop. also i had to replace all 4 rotors with less than 18,000 miles, complained to jeep and was told that rotors are normal wear and tear item and how long they last depends on your driving habits. i just heard on tv that there is a recall for brake failure, contacted jeep and was told no, there is no recall at this time. please let me know if there is a recall on 05 jeep grand cherokee for brake failure. eq-10203460-4200. date received 12/12/07 *jb new jersey police report. updated 12/12/07 *tr

I have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo on 2 different occasions my engine sounds like it is revving at full throttle but i have no power. the rpm does not reflect this. both incidents have been first thing in the morning and there is no warning. fortunately i have had enough power to get the vehicle off the road. i estimate my speed to be approximately 5-10 mph. i am hoping that if you have had similar complaints that you can advise me what was done to fix the problem. i have had the jeep to the shop on two different occasions but they advise me since they cannot replicate the problem they cannot fix it. thank you for any assistance you can give me. *jb

We have a safety issue with the adjustable gas pedal in our company car a 2005 jeep. the problem is that the pedal adjustment has no indicator that lets you know that the pedal has been moved by another employee. recently we had an event were an employee drove the car a long distance and did not know that the jeep had an adjustable pedal. the employee complained that his foot cramped during the 300 mile trip and he did not know why. he was not aware of the adjustable pedal feature of the jeep since there was no indicator light or gauge to let him know that the pedal had been set for a much shorter person. the employee also complained that during this trip he found himself driving faster than the speed limit and had to use cruise control to maintain his speed...again he was not aware that the pedal had been moved closer to the driver and his normal position of his foot pushed the pedal down more then normal. *nm

Repeated accident's of my vehicle going from idle (1000 rpm) to 1500-2000 rpm while vehicle stopped and in gear. requires significant effort to prevent vehicle from surging ahead. has occurred when vehicle is entering street from driveway, at a pedestrian crosswalk and at a traffic light. local dealer placed monitor in car and it recorded four instances in a month. damiler-chrysler engineering claims no vehicle problem, driver is supposedly stepping on both accelerator and brake. this is not correct, both driver in our family have experienced problem. car is unsafe. *jb

I have a 2005 grand cherokee laredo under 3000 miles. my engine light has come on less than 10 times ,and my car has stalled when come to stop light or complete stop about 5 times. i have made 5 trips to the dealer and the first few times they could not find anything wrong with it. then they determined it was related to the remote start which they had installed. i got it back and they said it was fixed and it stalled out when i pulled into my driveway that very day. engine light came on again exactly 1 week later. engine light is still on now. this will be my 7th trip to the dealer for this problem. i would also like to say that i have also hit the key in the ignition twice which made the car shut off and my car has also revved up with the brake on just as the other complaints on this site. i am also only getting 12 miles per gallon!*ak

The rpms increase and vehicle idles, causing the vehicle to accelerate on its own. taken to dealer for checkup, but the cause was undetermined.*ak
