Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Rubber/plastic piece that rides along when shifting became bunched up and couldn't shift into park or drive. had to cut out the bunched up piece as car was in middle of road. this rubber/plastic piece is part of the shifter bezel trim that keeps dust and dirt from getting into the shifter area. nothing has been done as dealer wants $720.00 for the part plus labor!!??!!?? this is ludicrous!!!!!! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while attempting to park, the gear shift lever would not move to the park position because the dust cover broke into pieces. the contact shifted into neutral and used the emergency brake to park. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the current and failure mileages were approximately 64,000.

2005 jeep grand cherokee has numerous times over the last 5 years experienced sudden unexpected throttle surge. no accidents have resulted so far. this happens frequently and now friends with the same model car but different years have also experienced the same. *tr

The bezel assembly malfunctioned by the gear shift sleeve bunching, which prevented the gear shift from staying in "drive". without any physical manipulation, the gears shifted from "drive" to "neutral". *tr

2005 jeep at car wash. putting jeep from park to drive jeep went into high rev and struck car six feet in front of it. i have been involved with four of these and have special instructions for anyone handling these very unsafe vehicles. *tr

2005 jeep grand cherokee has major transmission issues. i searched online to see if other people have had the same issue and found many leads. i called the chrysler recall number and they told me there was a recall in 2005 that has already been done on my vehicle in 2005. i took my car to the dealership for a diagnostic and they inquired me with a total of 1700.00 to get this repaired. my car gets stuck in gears, won't accelerate correctly, gets stuck in neutral, revs up on it's own, and it doesn't shift correctly. this is a safety issue that many people have had. this problem occurs every time i drive it. *tr

2005 jeep cherokee while idling jumped form park to reverse, hitting another parked car, also knocked the owner to the ground while trying to stop the vehicle. *tr

My 2005 jeep grand cherokee gets stuck in first gear when starting up from a stopped position. this is random, and happens only once every 15 to 20 stops. the only way i can get it to shift is to manually shift gears. i have had it into the dealer four times and they cannot fix the problem. i called jeep customer service and they told me to go to another dealer. as the car is on extended warranty it costs me $100 each time i take it in. *tr

2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo with 36,000 miles on it, torque converter was replaced at 28,000 miles due to vehicle shuddering at various speeds upon acceleration, vehicle was fine until now, 36000 miles and is doing the same thing... *tr

Purchased vehicle 8/9/08. at this time only problem we was you had to press clock button for radio to work. during 2008 we noticed a lot of odd behavior in electrical areas. october 29, 2009 brought jeep to used car dealership with these complaints: first check engine light started coming on, then it began flashing, door chime starts dinging, illuminated areas dim & brighten-flashing, dashboard lights go crazy flashing on & off, interior lights turn on & off, transmission lights go crazy & need to shift down in order to get vehicle to drive, headlights & tail lights flash on and off which is very unsafe while driving on a dark highway at night. used car dealership had car towed to jeep dealership in new london. these repairs cost $500.12 for faulty crank sensor, sensor crankshaft, spark plugs, leak at trans electrical. august 17, 2011 took to a new dealership w/ same problems. went to valenti jeep in mystic, ct. was advised junction block needed to be replaced and codes in multiple modules reset-this cost $318.52. september 10, 2011 back to valenti jeep for same problems & for install. of junction box costing $249.00 because of installation costs & other items we were advised to take care of. meanwhile as a warning this all begins after check engine light starts flashing. by september 28, 2011 it begins again: at this time check engine light & all other lights start up again, along with fact that you can now pull key out & vehicle is still running. blinking dash lights, ac on & off, gauges drop to 0, told only reason this is happening is because we have remote start system they don't use. tech reset system & disconnected our remote start system at a cost of $90.40. then by october of 2011-approximately, check engine light has returned & transmission lights are blinking. also headlights started flashing & tail lights. these issues are very sporadic. *tr

unintended acceleration of my jeep. i had it in park. i put my foot on the brake shifted to drive and the car accelerated with my foot still on the brake i shifted to neutral, the car continued to race for a few seconds. this is the third time it happened in 2 years. *tr

I have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo automatic with hemi engine. several times, i had the vehicle suddenly accelerate when changing gear from park to drive or reverse. fortunately, i always had my foot firm on the brake pedal and that prevented the vehicle to launch and cause damage to surroundings. this happened several times since 2005 when i purchased the vehicle. i took this vehicle to dealer for service and reported this problem, then i checked the internet and found that this is not a single case. *tr

I have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo, 3.7l engine, automatic transmission. when driving, the vehicle will just shut off as if the key was turned off, losing all power. the vehicle will start afterwards and the check engine light will stay on for a few hours this has been going on for a couple years. this problem is similar to the recall on the 2008 grand cherokee stalling and i think this problem is more wide spread than chrysler wants to admit. i have an appointment with a jeep dealer who recently relocated in my area next week. *tr

Wife was driving our 2005 jeep grand cherokee, 5.7l, quandra drive ii transmission. while driving yesterday a policeman on patrol noticed a sudden fire under her car. officer said transmission fluid was leaking onto the exhaust system and caused ignition of fire. occupants extracted themselves without problem. entire car engulfed in flames and extinguished by local fire department. car an entire loss. very lengthy service history with the transmission in this vehicle prior to fire. *tr

I own a 2005 jeep, grand cherokee with 39,000 miles. i was driving the vehicle when suddenly i had total transmission failure. the vehicle would not move when applying the gas. i coasted the vehicle off to the side of the rode and applied the brakes to stop the vehicle. i put the vehicle into park and got off the brakes and the vehicle began to roll forward. i had to apply the emergency brakes to stop the vehicle from rolling even though it was in park. the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership for diagnosis. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 05v396000 (power train:automatic transmission). the vehicle was taken to the dealer to have the recall repair performed. a few months later, the failure recurred. when the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, they discovered that only part of the recall work was done. the dealer and the manufacturer are refusing to perform the recall repair because the contact is the third owner of the vehicle. the failure mileage was 67,000.

On several occasions after i have driven my vehicle in heavy rain on wet roads or went through a car wash then parked it, when i go to leave the area it will take off (accelerate) as soon as it is in gear, my foot is not on the gas it just takes off, sometimes it will just stall after it does this other times it keeps running and i am able to control it. fortunately i have not had an accident because of this, but it is quite a scary experience. most recent experience was after i had been to a car wash. *tr

Safety recall 2005 jeep grand cherokee/transmission fluid leak. vehicle shakes violently/shudders on highway &when speeding up/ slowing down. jeep serviced on 5 separate occasions for recall over 36 months. repaired incorrectly on 1st visit to dealer service. brought in 4 subsequent times/approx. every 10,000 mi- to fix same issue transmission/ failed torque converter/shudder. dealer argued no recall of this item, despite having nhtsa recall info/my vin was noted on recall. dealer refused to waive $100 powertrain warranty fee each time jeep brought back. dealer insisted mopar parts have 9,000 mi warranty/ i would pay for repair b/c i drove 10,000 mi since previous repair. dealer refused to provide rental car despite 5-7 day s to repair. recall states a loaner vehicle to be provided if scheduled repair would take >1+days. a local 5 star jeep/chrysler dealership refused to service jeep after their initial recall repair failed at 10,000 miles. i was told to take jeep back to dealership i leased it from. dealership manager told me it was not his problem to fix & 5 star jeep name did not mean anything to him. said he was not concerned about recall. i brought jeep to the leasing dealership- they refuted claims of a recall & told me to pay for all repairs & loaner car. it wasn't until 4th&5th time jeep was in for service that a loaner car was provided because i told dealer i was pursuing ohio lemon law. the last time i brought jeep in for service of this recall item, i was told to go on a drive with serviceman to verify problem. he told me it was torque converter & not to fix it b/c he didn't think there would be a fires from leak. i showed him nhtsa recall. he said i would pay for mopar parts b/c they were out of warranty @ 12,000 miles. i told him i had 10,000 miles since last service. he spoke to manager & they serviced jeep. jeep is again shuddering/clunking. *tr

2005 jeep grand cherokee purchased used with full warranty. 30,000 miles the transmission goes. took to local dealership for repairs and was treated like dirt. they say they rebuilt the transmission but problem still exists. clanking, banging, and not shifting at all apparently this is normal for chrysler vehicles because the dealer says there is nothing wrong with it. surprise now that the warranty is up i wonder if they'll figure out what is wrong. disgusted with jeep, chrysler will never own another!!!*jb

The 2005 jeep cherokee has severe problems related to the transmission. i bought this vehicle used with 10,000 miles on. i had 5 transmission related problems within 12 months. two of these problems left the vehicle inoperable; one of which the vehicle almost caught on fire. they replaced the transmission and i was still not happy. i traded in for a 2007 buick lucerne - which has been a great car. no more chrysler products for me! *tr

Placed car in park with drivers door open and key in ignition (turned off). car slipt into reverse and rolled backward. tried to stop car from rolling and got pinned between car door and frame of garage door. car door bent backward and was severely damaged. garage door frame bent from weight of car. owners lower back was injured from being pressed between car door and frame. *tr

Purchased a 2005 jeep grand cherokee on april 19, 2007 dealer advertised a 7yr./70,000 powertrain warranty on the window sticker, vehicle had current mileage of 52,794 during test drive heard clicking sound from steering wheel thought it was normal when you signal. this continues to happen randomly till this date. oct.11,2007 took vehicle to jeep dealership for air conditioning problems, would hear growling sound, shut off, and only run on high. paid diagnostic fee 74.90. could not afford to pay for repair which was an extra $183 over the next couple of months would notice random shudder or rough starts while idling and driving, heard weird winding sound and vehicle would stall. check engine light came on and took to autozone, given transmission codes on 5/16/2008 took to dealership and requested diagnostic service because engine light on and having some kind of transmission problem according to autozone codes, and requested recall work done, was told we would have to pay $95. we informed them we have a warranty and should not have to pay the fee according to chrysler cust. service. they insisted. told them just do recall work we could not afford fee. according to receipt tech only installed transmission fill tube oil seal. after service vehicle still shuddering and stalling on the way home. 7/17/08 took jeep back to dealership to get transmission diagnosed, paid $95. was told failure in the torque converter, internal failure, and codes are the same as the one autozone gave earlier. repair solutions offered were an overhaul with a price quote of $3100 or replace for $3500. we called chrysler about warranty they said we don't have one. we called the dealership we bought the jeep from and they say we do have the chrysler warranty. after they talked to each other dealer was informed about chrysler's warranty policy and acknowledges telling us about warranty but has yet to offer repair service or any solution. *tr

I had a 2005 jeep grand cherokee limited with approximately 24,000 miles on it. in december 2006 it down shifted itself into low gear while doing a forward speed of approximately 10 mph. i took the car to the local jeep dealer who after keeping it for the day told me that they could find nothing wrong with the vehicle. on february 9, 2007 with approximately 27,500 miles on the same vehicle it did the same thing again only this time at a speed of approximately 20 to 25 mph. the vehicle was basically uncontrollable. i took the car back to the dealer who told me once again that there was nothing wrong with the transmission and, in writing, told me to change my driving habits. they assumed i was down shifting the car by mistake. i had so little confidence in the vehicle that i traded it in on a new car. if this should happen at highway speed and the vehicle slips sideways it will roll over. *jb

Tl* - the contact called regarding a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the vehicle vibrated and the rpms rose to 4, and will not come down. the contact took the vehicle to a chrysler dealer, and was informed that the vehicle was involved in a recall. the torque converter was replaced. the contact stated the vehicle ran fine for a couple of days. the contact stated if she drove over 30 mph the vehicle vibrated and felt as though it was going to fall apart. on 1/31/07, the contact had the vehicle towed to the daimler chrysler dealer because she did not feel safe driving the vehicle. the dealer has not yet looked at the vehicle. the contact has the repair invoice. *ak

The vehicle is a 6 cylinder with a nag 1 transmission, 30000 miles, transmission surges and does not want to change gears while accelerating. dangerous on highway... cannot pick up speed had been shuddering at various times.*ak vehicle does not seem to know how to shift properly and hesitates when accelerating or pulling in to traffic check engine ligth come on every friday and come off on saturdays. i took the car to dealer 5 times and every time they have a new upgrade for the computers but no fix, is a safety isue!!!!

The dash board computer fails twice and information panel says brakes failing. also transmission failure leading to sudden deacceleration from 40 to 20 mph and rpm shot up from 2 to 6. *nm

2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4x4. the transmission failed at a busy intersection with wife and two children aboard in november 2006. the dealership had to call chhrysler prior to ordering parts because chrysler had a hold"on the parts needed to make the repair. the hold placed on the parts was due to the fact chrysler knew there was a problem with the transmission and wanted to make sure the dealership fixed the problem correctly. since that time, the jeep's "new" transmission hesitates when climbing hills, accelerating etc. i have taken the jeep back to the dealership to have this problem corrected. the dealership and chrysler have acknowledged the problem with the automobile. chrysler described the problem to the dealership as "fish nipping at bait". chrysler's technical team tells the dealership they are working on a new computer program to fix this problem. it has now been 2 months since the diagnosis, and who knows how long since chrysler has been aware of the problem and i still am driving, and paying for, a vehicle that the manufacturer knows is faulty. in addition, i have not been able to receive any satisfaction by calling chrysler's numerous 1-800 numbers. all i have been told is that the appropriate parties have been contacted. who those are i do not know and they would not tell me! my dealership and chryslers technical team have already been in contact and they are aware of the problem! i have been told that the defect the jeep is experiencing will not harm the automobile. i have not once been concerned with the effect the defect has on the automobile but i have been concerned with the effect it has on my wife and i when driving the automobile. i want to know what chrysler plans on doing about selling me a vehicle that has not worked properly for the majority of time i have owned it! their lack of concern regarding their product and the safety of those who drive their product is appalling. *ak

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the current and failure mileage was 25,000. it took 1 to 3 minutes to move the shift gears when the vehicle was cold. the vehicle stalled when it was hot or cold. however, when the vehicle was not cold it started immediately. also, the vehicle lost power and shut off while accelerating. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after it stalled. the mechanic stated that the torque converter needed to be replaced. the vehicle continued to stall after the torque converter was replaced. *ak the transmission had a delay. the air bag light illuminated. the sunroof leaked water. updated 03/19/07. *jb

I bought a new 2005 jeep cherokee and began having problems one year after i bought it. i had multiple problems with the car not starting , but itwas not the battery. took it to the galeana dealership to get it fixed 5 times and they could not duplicate the problem, and eventually told me there was nothing they could do even though they knew the problem still existed because i videotaped several of the occurrences. the vehicle left me stranded everywhere. then, the transmission failed , and the car almost caught on fire with me and my two children in it. we had to replace the entire transmission at 22,000 miles. *ak

2005 jeep grand cherokee. the vehicle is a 6 cylinder with a nag 1 transmission. the vehicle was bought new in nov, 2005. it has around 17600 miles on it. the vehicle had been shuddering at various times, was inconsistent. usually around 1500 rpms. eagle auto mall, local jeep dealer stated nothing was wrong. coming home from store transmission started to whine and then stopped shifting. pulling into my driveway engine compartment started to smoke badly, almost went on fire . turned vehicle off. observed tranny fluid all over the engine and alot of tranny fluid on the ground. vehicle was towed to the eagle dealer, who after a week in the shop said there was water in the tranny fluid and that they were going to have to take apart the transmission. contacted chrysler told them that a vin check of my vehicle showed that it was not under the recall they had issued for this model, but there was a safety problem and that a new transmission should be placed in the vehicle. *nm

Transmission surges and does not want to change gears while accelerating. dangerous on highway... cannot pick up speed jeep authorized dealer replaced torque converter... problem still exists. in shop again today for repair. *nm

I purchased a 2005 jeep grand cherokee in january 2005. on august 25, 2006, i took the vehicle to normandin chrysler jeep because the check engine light had come on and the car was lurching, making noise and kept sliding into third gear. the car was returned to me after three plus weeks and the first time i drove it, my passenger and i were almost involved in an accident because the car died. the car was immediately returned to the dealership where it has been for over two weeks awaiting a "new" transmission. the car has been in the dealership for a total of 36 of the last 38 days. the car is still at the dealership. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated that the automatic brake module light on the dashboard illuminated causing the vehicle to be locked in park. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who can not find the cause of the problem

Dt*: the contact stated that while driving 55 mph on the highway the vehicle started to decelerate. this issue was intermittent. the independent repair shop was unable to determine the cause of the problem a week prior to the failure all of the symbols on the panel started to blink.

I have a 2005 jeep cherokee with 3,000 miles. i took it in for a transmission seal recall, e13. two days after it was serviced, i was on the highway and the transmission burned up, leaving me stranded. car had to be towed 150 miles to dealer who handled recall. my car has been in the shop a month. i am having to pay daily car rental which has now cost me over $1,200 in addition to having to make a car payment for a car i don't have. i keep getting different answers from dealer, said transmission ordered days ago from new jersey, now says it was ordered yesterday, july 14, he says he can't tell me anything, when, if it is new or rebuilt, or how much longer i have to wait. i have never been treated so rudely by a dealership, manager, and service manager. i will never purchase a vehicle from that dealer again and i am inclined to never buy another jeep product. i am at the point of turning the car back and seeking legal action if something isn't done about this outrageous situation. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while changing the gear from drive to reverse there was a clicking noise. this occurred intermittently. while attempting to apply pressure to the accelerator pedal the engine made a roaring noise and the vehicle failed to pick up speed. the dealership rebuilt the transmission, however no other repairs have been made. the manufacturer has been alerted. updated 6/27/2006 - the vehicle battery would not hold a charge. the headliner had to be replaced because it was unraveling.. the sunroof motor had to be replaced. the transmission was rebuilt on 2-27-06 with on 90000 miles. the memory seat did not move back at times when the key was removed from the ignition. the tire pressure monitoring system was inoperative. the power steering pump was binding and had to be replaced. the air bag light illuminated on the dash. the rear windshield wipers were not flush with the windshield. *nm

Jeep 2005 grand cherokee. on several occasions, attempted to accelerate onto highway from 40 mph and engine just revs, tachs to 5 or 6 and still only going 40 mph in the meantime numerous close calls to getting hit by oncoming cars and trucks on highway because the jeep simply isn't moving fast and just revving. taken to dealer for complaint and repair at least 3-4 times and dealer states they can't "duplicate" the problem so "they are unable to fix it". i am told "nothing is wrong". i fear somebody will eventually get severely injured or killed due to this problem. stuck in a lease of an unsafe vehicle. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 35 mph through an intersection on normal road conditions, the engine stalled and could not be restarted. there were no warning lights prior to the incident. the vehicle was towed to the dealership, who diagnosed a fuel pump and fuel injection pump failure, both were replaced. after this incident, the vehicle presented transmission problems. the contact noticed a loss of power while driving 65 mph on a highway. intermittently, the transmission made noise when shifted to second gear. the vehicle had been taken to the dealership 20 times, however no error codes identified the defect. in one of the incidents, the yellow malfunction light illuminated and the dealership identified the defect as the computer control module and the driver shaft, both were replaced, however the transmission problem persisted. the dealership determined the vehicle could not be repaired. the manufacturer was contacted who recommended to take the vehicle to a different dealership. *ak the vehicle was not downshifting when going up hills and it would get stuck in second or third gear. the a/c and blower motor were inoperative, the dealer could not duplicate the consumers concern. the key became stuck in the ignition. all the dashboard lights were flashing, the cd player was broke. the brakes and rotors vibrated. the starter was replaced. the driveshaft and heater were replaced. the seats would not move back. the seat belts did not retract as they should. updated 01/17/07. *jb updated

2005 grand cherokee ltd, 4.7 litre engine. when stopped at a light the car suddenly accelerated. *jb

I bought a brand new 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo, within weeks i started to notice the upholstery was not treated, it would stain with the slightest bit of condensation or rain. after about 8-12 months i started to feel it getting sluggish when accelerated but the problem was intermittent. brought it in to dealership and they said no problem was detected. the real problems started after i had the vehicle 2yrs..check engine light would come on, gears would stick, engine would roar up to 4.5 rpms and would not accelerate. this would happen in rush hour traffic, on ramps to the higway, green lights etc.. i almost got creamed by an 18 wheeler. the vehicle would buck and sputter. if i kept my foot on the gas it would eventually clunk into gear.it had been to the dealership 6 times. at one point they replaced they transmission module..that did not fix the problem. it started to get tiresome, dealership was condenscending claiming "they could not duplicate the problem." no luck with gm's ,serv mgrs, and the chrysler corp. chysler does not honor their warranties or care about their customers. i feared for my life in the vehicle and just traded it in, upside down, yesterday. i had no fight left in me. this was the worst experience you could imagine buying a brand new suv. something needs to be done before someone is fatally injured. *tr

I was driving down the road to go play golf when i noticed an odd sound from the rear end of my 2005 grand limited w/hemi. on the way home i noticed the sound was in all gears and all speeds but much more notable at low speeds. i drove it to the dealership as soon as possible and took a mechanic for a ride and he thought the noise was a bad pinion bearing. after closer inspection they determined the whole rear end of the car needed to be rebuild. 15,000 miles and i need a new rear end? for a $42,000 suv this sure is not what i expected. so now i am out of my car for a week to two weeks while they get the parts and rebuild. so now i have a new "rebuilt" suv for the same payments...doesn't seem right at 15,000 miles. rkm. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated in april 2006, the vehicle accelerated on its own nearly causing an accident. the service dealer determined the computer system that runs the transmission was the problem. the computer issue allowed the transmission to leak improperly. also, in october 2006 the vehicle stalled at 30 mph due to all the electric in the vehicle failing.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 40 mph the engine stalled. while using the air conditioner or defroster water leaked into the transmission causing it to fail. there is a nhtsa recall, #05v396000 concerning the power train automatic transmission however the recall did not correct the problem. the dealer was alerted and the transmission was replaced which remedied the problem.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving at various speeds the vehicle surged forward without warning. the rpms increased very rapidly. upon inspection the dealership determined there was a problem with the electrical system and the transmission. the dealer replaced multiple parts in an attempt to remedy the problem however, the surging problem continued. *ak

I have a 2005 jeep cherokee with a v8 engine that was not included in the recall. my car sat for 5 days while i was on vacation. upon returning the battery was completely dead, i had the battery jumped and drove home from airport. the battery was dead again the next morning, vehicle was towed to dealership. after replacing the battery and an oil change, the vehicle began stalling when stopped at red lights or stop signs. the vehicle was also lunging forward when stopped. i have had the vehicle at the dealership four times for this problem and have gotten the same response "road tested- normal condition at this time". the service rep even called me to tell me he drove the vehicle and thought it was the transmission, that there is a hesitating shift and a jerks hard forward on acceleration. however they were unable to find anything wrong. vehicle has 9,000 miles. *jb

2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4x4. - transmission started to slip at 6,000 miles. took it to dealer, who did a service, and said all was fine. ran terrible from then on. - transmission failed at 24,000 miles . dealer said this was rare. took 2 weeks to replace! ran decently for 10,000 miles or so then problems came back. - transmission failed at 38,000 miles, in an intersection with my kid in the car. dealer then admitted that this was a problem with jeeps. took 5 weeks to replace. - transmission starting to slip and skip again at 68,000 miles. no service planned as i am turning it back in from my lease and never getting a jeep again!*ak

2005 grand cherokee shut off, locking in third gear. *ts the vehicle has been taken to the dealer on several occasion for this problem but they have been unable to duplicate the problem. the check engine light illuminated when driving and the transmission would not shift out of third gear. when making a turn the traction light illuminated and the engine stalled out mainly on right turns. *nm

We leased a 2005 jeep cherokee in january 2005 and in january 2006 everything on the dashboard started to cut off including turn signals, odometer... and everything on the dash including the cd player, the buttons for the heater/ac would overheat and the car began to smoke for no apparent reason. we took it in to galeana, the local dealership and they could not find a problem, which apparently seems to happen quite often with chyrsler automobiles. shortly after the car began to break down everywhere. if i parked the car at a store, work, home... and went back to start it, it would not crank. this happens 8 out of 10 times and the vehicle has been taken to the dealership 5 times and they could not "duplicate" a problem and now they tell me they can't do anything for me. shortly after that at the end of 2006, as i was driving down the highway a "pebble" as the dealership calls it, went through my grill and hit the transmission coolant, spraying transmission fluid everywhere almost catching on fire with me and my two small children in it. we took it to the dealership and apparently the transmission was blown out, $4,000 dollars to replace. all of our other problems still exists and chrysler does not want to fix the problems or let us out of the lease. i have tried talking to chrysler and getting this issue resolved only to hear them telling me that this was not their problem. this is becoming a trend in their business and if they cannot fix the vehicles they manufactured they should not be making the vehicles in the first place. *jb

***several problems with 2005 jeep cherokee laredo 3.7*** just after purchasing this vehicle in feb 2006 dealer had to replace the air conditioner because it would only work at one speed. after that the transfer case and shifter had to be replaced, next the windshield began to leak molding the carpets, next the steering wheel began making loud clicking noise when making deep turns, vehicle also has severe hesitation when going up hills, now my mechanic says there is transmission fluid all under the vehicle. have also bumped my knee against the key resulting in stalling. worst of all only getting 12-14 mpg!!!!!!have owned jeeps in the past, very unhappy with this one. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated there was nhtsa recall campaign 05v396000 regarding the automatic transmission. the recall was performed on the vehicle, but afterwards it continued to shudder while driving. although the repairs were performed accordingly the vehicle had a strong shudder that could physically be felt by the contact as well as a loud chatter from the transmission. while shifting from park to reverse there was a loud clanking noise. aside from the problem with the automatic transmission the electrical system displayed some abnormalities. while driving the dashboard panel lights illuminated and all of the gauges, such as the fuel and speedometer failed to register. the defroster which was in use at that time stopped working. this problem lasted only a matter of seconds but returned to normal when the check engine light illuminated. this occurred 5 or 6 times in a 5 mile radius and abruptly stopped with no further incident. when the contact returned the vehicle to the dealer for the automatic transmission, the electrical system problem was reported to the service department. the contact left the vehicle at the dealer for inspection. however, the service department has been unable to duplicate the problem. *ak
