04 jeep grand cherokee laredo driver seat track bracket broken. seat is now unsafe. *tr
Driver's seat frame broke. garage welded it, but it broke again at 102,000 miles. seat frames should never break! only vehicle i ever owned to have had this problem. checked on line, apparently others have had this problem as well. *tr
2004 grand cherokee laredo. this will be the second time since 2004 replacing the drivers side front seat. it broke in 2008 and again in 2011. the seat starts to rock back and forth like its loose and there is no way to tighten the seat.. so you have to simply live with it, very unsafe in my eyes. if i was in a accident i think the seat would snap off and i would be greatly injured! *tr
The seat brackets for the driver's seat on my 2004 jeep grand cherokee have snapped. this causes the seat to rock back and forth when accelerating or breaking. will cost between 500-800 to have the brackets replaced. *tr
Passenger seat heater element got way to hot and the seat stated smoking. i seen the recall so i called gave them the vin and was told this vehicle was not covered under the recall. *tr
While driving down the road my seat completely broke, throwing me towards the back seat. thank god i was able to control the vehicle and that no one was coming down the other side of the road or it would have been terrible. why would a seat fail like that??? the car is pretty much not drivable now because the seat is completely broken off the base. this is crazy!!!
Drivers seat bracket has broken causing seat to severely rock. i have seen numerous complaints. needs to be repaired by a welder or replaced. currently holding together with a hose clamp. *tr
2004 jeep grand cherokee with a recall for front seat electric heating elements. consumer expressed discontent with one dealership and was very content with the work done by a different dealership. *kb the first dealership stated they had the parts, but when the consumer arrived, she was informed the parts were not available. *jb
I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee laredo with 107,000 miles. today, 12/9/2010, the drivers side seat bracket came loose. i believe after searching the internet, that it is a mounting bracket. some other jeep cherokee owners complained of this problem. the seat now rocks when i brake and accelerate. i am concerned that if i get into a collision the seat will not be locked in and the seat belt will not function. *tr
The driver's seat of my 2004 jeep grand cherokee has broken for unknown reasons and , without homemade, patchwork bracing, flops back like a recliner. we have attempted to get this repaired both through our local dealer and through chrysler corporation and they claim that they cannot secure the part; we were first told by the dealer we had to prepay for the part, did so, and then they reported back weeks later that they couldn't find the part. unfortunately, our financial situation does not allow us to simply park the vehicle and make due. this is truly an accident waiting to happen and we would appreciate any assistance and support you can offer. *tr
I own a 2004 jeep grand cherokee with a driver's side power seat. it has approximately 105,000 miles on it. the front right seat bracket broke on 10/20/2010 causing the seat to rock while driving, accelerating or braking. the left side bracket is now also cracked but not broken all the way across yet. this is a very dangerous situation as it may both lead to an accident and cause additional injuries to the driver. i am now trying to find used parts for the replacement and have learned from one local used auto parts dealer (631-654-5172) that he didn't have any because this was a :"hot" item. my research on the internet has also found it to be a very common problem with grand cherokees. the seats are breaking with normal use. i have decided to complain to the nhtsa and my us senator in the interest of protecting others from a serious safety problem involving a large number of vehicles. this site currently shows 1898 votes of 'yes' in regard to having a cracked seat: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm i await your reply, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Front driver side seat started to wobble and then ended up snapping. metal broke in the front left of the seat right by where the metal piece is that lifts the seat. i drive with my seat all the way down and is never raised. the seat moves every bend and anytime i accelerate or brake. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while making a right turn, he heard a loud popping noise and could feel the seat moving. the dealer looked at the vehicle and stated that the mounting bracket for the seat was broken. the dealer stated this had been a problem in the past. the current and failure mileages were 182000.
The seat frame on my 2004 jeep grand cherokee has broken for the second time. the seat frame is not strong enough for a normal weight adult male. *tr
On my 2004 jeep grand cherokee laredo the right front bracket on the driver seat that holds the seat to the floor broke causing the seat to become unstable. i haven't taken the jeep to a dealer at this time. *tr
Front drivers side seat broke of rail and frame. *tr
2004 jeep grand cherokee e front driver's seat broken changed it once with the dealership but it broke again from reading online comments from other jeep owners this is an on going problem with the frame or seat bracket since i changed the frame it broke within 6 months of repairing it average cost for new seat frame is about 600 dollars at dealership and it's not fair to have jeep owners pay over and over again to fix a problem with their jeep when it's jeeps fault. *tr
The drivers seat back will not stay in an upright position, it gradually reclines, even while the vehicle is parked. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated when getting into the driver seat, he heard the metal bracket under the seat snap. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership but no repairs were performed at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was approximately 80,900. the current mileage was approximately 81,000.
Drivers seat rocks broken brackets that hold the seat to the car. i have seen thousands of failures of these brackets reported on line. the fix is a new $1000 seat which often gets overlooked and people are welding (that's what we plan to do) a bracket which may create additional safety issues. *tr
Front seat support breaks. *tr
Metal bracket holding driver seat to the floor has broken twice during the ownership of this vehicle. i weigh 250lbs, i'm heavy, but we're talking about metal that has completely snapped in two. twice. *tr
I have a 2004 grand cherokee laredo. today while getting into my jeep, my drivers seat frame broke. loose in the front left corner. now my driver seat rocks when i apply the brake or give gas. wow, thank the lord i was not driving when this happened. i have contacted chrysler about this to see if they will assist with repair even though i have 70,000 miles of use. after doing some research, it appears this is a known issue yet no recalls are performed. it's going to cost me roughly $700.00 to get this fixed. below is a link i found with a lot of complaints around this issue. http://vlane.com/poll/30/2001-jeep-grand-cherokee-has-your-driver-side-front-seat-broken-on-this-jeep. *tr
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) my driver seat track broke for my 2004 jeep grand cherokee on the right side next to the driver side door. it snapped in half and while researching on the web i found a website that everyone else is voicing there concern. my seat is swaying side to side and when i am driving my seat leans back far. when calling the dealership they said that this is not a known issue and that it will cost me between 600-800 to fix. this is upsetting when i can weld it together, but when i get in a accident will that hold? it is a terrible product and the metal should have been stronger and thicker. Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received a recall notice for the seats, front assembly seat heater/cooler (09v117000). after having the remedy repair done, the drivers front heated seat was inoperable. the dealer stated that the front driver seat was inoperable; therefore, the heated seat element would not work. the contact stated that the front driver seat was operating correctly before the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the contact had not called the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 133,000.
2004 jeep grand cherokee. 76,000 miles. purchased new, i am the only owner. while turning into work, the driver seat bracket (the bracket that connects the seat to the floor) broke in the front left (if looking forward). now the seat sways and all of the weight is stressed on just one corner of the bracket. according to online reports, this costs up to $1000 to get fixed at a dealer. other reports of the bracket breaking while people accelerating and falling into the back seat. *tr
1/27/10 a received in the mail a safety recall j14-heated seat elements, chrysler group and dealership only fix the front passenger seat, and the driver seat was was not fix it was disconected awaitng for a cover seat, and as of 6/7/12 the problem is not fix, chrysler firts calimed that the work was completed on may 2010, i told them no only one seat was fixed, they called the dealership and confirmed my story, and now they are telling me that they do not have in stock a seat cover and that i have to continue waiting, i have been waiting for more than 2 years and have been more than patient, i want chrysler to pay me so that i can have this fix at a location that i feel confident because i do not trust chrysler or the chrysler dealership in randolph nj, if i was to sell my vehicle i will loose value because one seat is not working and i have not been able to use my heated seat in more than 2 years, this is unaceptable, chrysler group did not comply with the safety recall. *js
Left front frame bracket on driver-side power seat has broken or sheared... *tr
I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee that has the heated seat issue, recall j14 and called the dealership 3 weeks ago without a response. they set up an appointment for me to go in jan. 7th to get it fixed and when i went in they never even had the parts to fix it. so they got my information and said they would call me with an eta and it has been over a week now without any contact from them. when i called today i gave them my information again and they told me only 300 parts were being shipped to the whole state on monday and that i may or may not get it done even after that. to me, having heated seats that may explode and cause fires is a pretty big safety issue that should not take over a month (when all said and done) to fix especially living in a cold state like colorado where these seats are needed. by scheduling an appointment to fix it, then not having the parts to do it, then never calling me back to set up a new time that is completely unacceptable and well outside of a reasonable time for something as serious as this. *tr
Re: 2004 jeep cherokee driver side seat frame broke again after dealer so called repair. *tr
Front driver side seat has broke at 3 separate parts required welding to repair. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the vehicle was included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 09v117000, seats:front assembly:seat heater/cooler. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed the company which manufacturers the necessary parts was out of business. he was informed to call them back at a later date. the contact has since called the authorized dealer back 3 times and he was again informed to call back at a later date. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 94,000 and the current mileage was 100,000. the vin was unavailable. updated 01/03/11 *bf the consumer is still waiting for the parts to come in to fix the passenger heater seat. updated 01/07/11
Driver's side seat track suffered material fatigue fracture. seat frame is a stamped metal frame. the crack happened on the front left leg that attaches the seat to the floorboard. the seat track is stamped by a chrysler directed supplier and shipped to jci for assembly. suggest chrysler to investigate seat movement (causing fatigue in the bend), material thickness and the possibility of adding a gusset (or brace) across the bottom of this bend in the track. this happened on my personal vehicle. i noticed some movement in the seat but i thought it was coming from the recline function. i was backing down a hill when it snapped causing me (the driver) to suddenly tilt backward. i was startled and the truck bumped into the mailbox at the end of the driveway causing a damaged bumper. *tr
I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee and my drivers seat started leaning about a year ago then this year is started squeaking when i sat in it, but never thought anything of it since i have 120,000 miles. then all of a sudden as i am driving at 65 mph the seat makes a loud pop noise and i almost wound up in the back seat. i stopped the car and looked under the seat to find the frame cracked. i got home took the seat apart and found it had cracked on all the weld joints and where the bolts where that help it to the metal frame. i searched online only to find out that this is a very common problem and 100's of people are having the same issue. this is very dangerous and could cause a tragic accident. i had the seat welded by a friend since you cannot buy the parts to repair. after 3 weeks now my steel frame on the seat has cracked. these seats are death tramps and chrysler should have to fix them. very dangerous, do people have to die in order for this to be rectified? *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. while the contact was driving approximately 5 mph coming from a complete stop the power windows and power door locks failed to operate when engaged. the additionally, a noise sounded from the instrument panel whenever engaging the power window switch. the vehicle had a recall repair performed under nhtsa campaign id number 06v197000 (seats: front assembly: seat heater/cooler). however, the failure continued to occur after the recall repair. the power windows and power door locks failures had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was 80,000. the current mileage was 95,000.
Seat mount bracket fails under normal use. front seat drivers side mount bracket broke at 65k miles under light use. looking online it seems like this is a "normal" thing causing a dangerous driving situation of driving in a "rocking chair". jeep knows this is an issue yet there is no replacement part for upgrading an obvious inferior structural component that is integral to safe driving. *tr
My front driver side seat of my 2004 jeep grand cherokee has broken twice since i have owned it. the metal literally snapping. i have been reading sites on the internet and this appears to be an extremely common occurrence. it makes me wonder if it just breaks due to every day driving what would happen in a crash?
2004 jeep grand cherokee laredo -- front seat bracket/rail broken/snapped off--this created a safety situation with seat not secure--raises questions as to what would have happened if in accident and seat broke loose. *tr
2004 jeep grand cherokee, drivers seat broke a weld. i was driving about a year ago and the weld just broke. i haven't had a chance to get it fixed because i can't find a used replacement and dealership wants over $800 to fix. i have checked online and have found almost 2000 people with similar problems all stating the same thing, jeep doesn't have a recall for this and they can't find a replacement seat used or new for that matter and jeep dealer wants over $500 to fix the problem. i have also read that the people that have had the seat fixed or replaced the issue just happens again. i feel this is a safety issue as it broke while i was driving the vehicle which thank god did not cause a accident to happen only because i was not on a busy road and was able to recover from the initial shock of the seat breaking. i checked under the seat was able to see the metal broke right at the weld. *tr
Tl*the contact owned a 2004 jeep grand cherokee limited. while driving, she turned on the air conditioner and smoke started coming from under the passenger side floor board; near the air vents. the fire department extinguished the fire. the cause of the failure has not been determined. the failure mileage was 67,000. updated 01/20/10. *lj the consumer stated once she pulled over, fire began emitting from the passenger floorboard. a recall regarding the heated seats was issued in 2005 and 2006. the consumer took the vehicle to have the repairs done. a second recall went out in november. updated 01/21/10.*jb
Driver's side seat bracket has broken. i have welded once and it has broken again. i am not a large man (about 185lbs) and feel this should not have happened under normal use. many jeep owners have complaints on this. *tr
Stopped at a light, when light turned green, accerated, driver seat rocked backward and felt loose. on examination front left bracket on frame had broken. this seems to be a problem this this car, searched on-line to find many people with this happening. had it welded. about 6mos later rear bracket broke in same way. this is very dangerous to the driver, must hold on when seat moves in this way. don't know why jeep will not fix at there cost. they say ther is no recall. there should be one.
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact slightly reclined the front driver's seat and the seat frame fractured. the seat could have completely failed while driving, thus increasing the risk of a crash. the dealer stated that he would be responsible for replacing the seat frame. the repair would cost $600. the contact is in the process of having the vehicle repaired. the failure and current mileages were 109,000.
