Blend door assembly and heater core failed on 2002 jeep grand cherokee. resulted in loss of defroster for front winshield which resulted in loss of vision through windshield. replaced heater core, blend door assembly, actuator, and recirculation door assembly. *nm
The heater has stopped working blowing only cold air out of the vents, doesn't properly defrost windows, so when driving on cold days the window fogs up causing a hazard, very difficult to see, almost hit some other cars because of the lack of visibility. not to mention driving in a freezing car with my young child. *tr
Dt*: the contact stated the passenger side front and rear and the driver side front power windows slid down on their own and would not come back up. there was a broken white plastic piece noted inside the window. the contact replaced the driver side front window. the dealership was contacted. additionally, once while driving on a dry highway at 60 mph, the cruise control was set at 60 mph; when the contact depressed the brake, the cruise control did not deactivate and accelerated until the gas pedal went to the floor. the contact applied the brake again and the vehicle slowed to a stop.
Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower blend doors are broken, resulting in no heat on passenger side, and no defrost for the windshield. *jb
2002 jeep gc overland. for the past 20k miles blend doors do not operate properly causing terrible frosting of interior during cold weather. safety liability. *tr

Heater system fails and will not blow hot air. blend door, and motor replacement is required at a cost of $800.00. i have a 2001 and 2002 jeep grand cherokee both of which have failed. one failed two times. each repair is $800+. *tr
2002 jeep grand cherokee. steering wheel began making strange sounds. steering gear and associated parts were replaced. shortly after, strange sounds returned, the steering began to become completely unassisted at low speeds for a brief second. the problem causes quite a scare and causes temporary loss of control. this is associated with low speed idle. damage is imminent without repair. this problem is well documented among jeep chat rooms. second well documented problem among jeep owners. faulty power window units that fail without warning and cause window to be stuck up or down. this causes driver to be forced to drive with open non responding windows in a variety of weather conditions, obvious safety and health hazard. third chronic hazard well known to jeep owners as well as jeep. the blend doors on a/c consistently fail right after warranty period. this causes a failure of the defroster and obvious danger, as well as drivers are forced to drive with constant unheated airflow until costly repair. jeep is well aware of these problems but refuses to acknowledge a consistent problem and offer correction for all affected vehicles. *nm
After reading almost all complaints with other 2002 jeep grand cherokees, i have to put in my two cents worth. i can relate to almost every complaint that there is. i just had both my front left and right window regulators replaced a month and a half apart, one just today at $327.00 with my employee discount. (i work for a car dealership) last month, i have had almost $500.00 worth of repairs for my power steering pump problems. i have had my brake rotors turned and resurfaced and am in need of doing it again. then on the other hand, i have experienced problems with my dual control panel not working correctly which i have not have repaired yet because i don't have the money for that one and didn't know at the time that it was a problem. then when my jeep was under warranty i have had the air conditioner compressor replaced, new battery(for hard or no starting), amongst other repairs that i can't think of at the moment. i have also been experiencing hard starts with my truck and also the transmission not engaging or jumping (accelerating) while switching gears that the jeep dealer has not been able to recognize as a problem. i feel that those new chrysler commercials are not up to par as american and german engineering. those germans know how to build vehicles in the first place and help repair them as the problem seem necessary. *nm
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that front and back driver and passenger side power windows could not be opened. he has taken the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that it would cost $358 to have the window repaired. the current mileage was 41,000 and the failure mileage was unknown. updated 09/11/07 *tr
I shut the passenger door and my window fell. this is the third time this year for this to happen. first it was the driver side and then the driver side passenger window. the guy at the jeep place said that this is a common failure with the grand cherokee. this is $450 for each time. *nm
Faulty window regulators in 2002 grand jeep cherokee. chrysler paid for the second window but refuses to pay for the first one after receipt was requested and provided. very common problem with this model according to the dealer but chrysler has refused to issue a recall. window drops down and creates a safety issue. *tr
I have a 2002 jeep grand cherokee and i have now had the third different power window failure since i bought the vehicle new. the window, when fails, falls down in its track and on one occasion happened while i was driving and it startled me. i have spent hundreds of dollars on the previous two failures only now to have a third failure. both front windows failed and now the rear left has failed. *jb
Heater/air conditioner ventilation system not functioning properly. just stopped working. would not direct heat/air to all vents. was not covered by extended warranty, even though they knew there was a defect in the equipment. $1200+ to fix with a couple $10 parts! the whole dash has to come off. *tr
Drivers and passenger side windows have fell inside the door while parked. chrysler needs to replace this defective part that controls the window. when this happens it leaves your car unprotected to thieves and weather conditions. *jb
- dual climate control system on 2002 jeep grand cherokee limited failed. cold air was blowing from one side despite the settings. resulted in a $1200 repair at the dealership. -dashboard has a loud creaking sound coming from its underside when i turn on
i own a 2002 jeep grand cherokee limited. the events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of jeep. consequently,(1) the windshield and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. to correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary at a cost of approximately $1,200 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. according to the certified service department at the local jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 jeep grand cherokee limiteds with duel zone ventilation systems. *nm
Front passenger side electric window cable broke. window would not move and then fell inside of door. dealer stated that this is a common problem. approximately one year ago same problem happened with driver side front window. *jb
2002 jeep cherokee, driver and passenger side window regulators failed. the driver side regulator had to be replaced twice. *kb *nm***nar***
My jeep seems to be in need of a heater core replacement which is expensive to fix from what i understand. i feel that this is a major safety issue because everytime we get in the car to drive, the windshield is completely fogged up, the defroster doesn't work, heater doesn't work, but the a/c does. i constantly have to fill up the antifreeze, and i cant help but wonder if the fumes being emitted from the windshield are hazardous to me and my family? it is so hard to see through the window at any time of the day because even when you wipe the fog off, it comes right back. i fear getting into an accident with my wife and kids in the car. we contacted worthington dodge of carlsbad, who referred us to daimler chrysler since we have the extended warranty through them. they told us that it is not a common problem, nor is it a safety issue, and they basically told us :oh well, we wont cover it, and get it fixed yourself." *nm
Failure causes windshield to fog up and driver cannot see roadway. all ac and heater functions fail. this is the 5th failure after repeated repairs. the vehicle is unsafe to drive. *tr
Air conditioning blower would quit working. found a jeep forum on line. determined the problem was the blower motor resistor wiring connections overheating. this is a very common problem with these grand cherokees. seems like jeep should have done a recall. *tr
My 2002 jeep grand cherokee has only 55k miles on it and the door\regulator motor for the drivers side and passenger side windows broke. i was informed that this is a common occurrence with jeeps. this is not normal that there are failures of this type. it is 650 dollars to replace both door regulators. this issue needs to be resolved. *jb
Blend door in the ventilation system failed after only 40k miles, causing cold air to blow through the vents on the passenger side, even when the heat was on. cost of repair was ~ $900 parts and labor. *jb
I own a 2002 jeep grand cherokee overland. e events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) fogging of front windshield,(2) fogging of front passenger windows, (3) failure of passenger's heat while still maintaining the driver's heat function, and (4) only cold air released on passenger's side . consequently the windshield and front windows did not clear. whatsoever came the passenger's side floor and dashboard ventilation system. to correct this problem, a blend air door was necessary for apprately $1,200. according to the certified service department at the local jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 jeep grand cherokees with duel zone ventilation systems.*ak
I own a 2002 jeep grand cherokee limited with 51,400 miles on it. the events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield, (2) fogging of front passenger windows, (3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of jeep. consequently, (1) the windshield and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dash ventilation system. to correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary at a high cost of approximately $1,200 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. according to service department at jeep and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 jeep grand cherokee limited's with duel zone ventilation systems. *jb
Heater blend door inoperable. my pregnant wife and i were driving in the mountains near big bear, california . it was about 30 degrees that morning and the heater didn't work. it actually blew cold air on the windshield, and it froze blocking our view when we ran off the road. we could have been killed.*ak
My 2002 grand cherokee limited blows cold on pass. side and hot on driver side. it has done this for some time. i found out that there are many jeeps doing this. please help.... *tr
Jeep blend door break - visibility problem because of defroster. *tr
I own a 2002 jeep grand cherokee limited with 58,400 miles. the events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of jeep. consequently,(1) the windshield and front windows do not defrost, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. to correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary at a cost of approximately $1,200 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. according to the certified service department at the local jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 jeep grand cherokee limited with duel zone ventilation systems.*ak
I bought my 2002 jeep grand cherokee used with 51,249 miles i found out after 30 days that my blend door needed to be changed out the dealer where i purchased it was kind enough to split the cost 50% my part $492. now it has gone out again and you would have thought that it would last more than 2 years what can i do besides trade it in. *tr
(1) the hvac blend and recirculation doors on my 2002 jeep grand cherokee limited broke. (2) this resulted in only cold air blowing on the passenger side. (3) dealer quotes for repairs (parts/labor) are $800+. *nm
The hvac system in my 2002 jeep grand cherokee became inoperative due to poor quality blend doors. this led to no airflow from the system and unsafe operation of the vehicle due to no defrost/defog capability and subsequent loss of visibility out of the vehicle. *jb
Cold air began coming from the vents side of the glove compartment when the heater was on. dealer found the air conditioner/heater blend doors that direct the air had broken. a plastic part that directs the doors had broken. dealer technicians said they have repaired several vehicles with this problem. *jb
Under normal use of my 2002 grand cherokee overland, the automatic climate controls system has started to not work properly. the problem is that when the heat is on, cold air will blow on the passenger side and the front defrost will not work properly either. i have not fixed the failure yet because the repairs cost over $800 and i can't afford it. *nm
Mid summer my driver side window fell down, i thought with the help of my 5 year old son. the dealer charged me $500 to replace the power window actuator. today, my passenger window fell also. i'm on disability, haven't worked in almost a year - how can i afford to fix this same problem again? i'm glad to see i'm not the only one. *jb
2002 jeep grand cherokee climate control blend door failed. this causes outside air to blow from the passenger side of dash even when heat setting is turned to maximum temperature. defrosting windshield under winter icing conditions very difficult. dealer wanted $500 - $1500 for repair, depending on amount of labor required removal of dash. *jb
02 jeep grand cherokee blend door failure, heater and defogger failure. *nm
This is my 4th jeep. here is a little background on this issue. i purchased a 2002 jeep grand cherokee, the overland edition. the dealership pushed buying a used certified jeep vehicle! they mentioned the extended warranty that would take care of any issues that the jeep had during the last years of my ownership. i went in the dealership looking to purchase a new vehicle but they told me all the added benefits / value from buying from the used jeep facility! the warranty: as mentioned i purchased the warranty sold by jeep at the local dealership. the service agreement that was sold by the dealership went bankrupt! gary miller chrysler jeep isuzu located in erie, pa sold this to me. my 1st issue was when i decided to take the vehicle in because of a vibration while driving. i was made aware that the company was bankrupt when tying to call and find out what information will be needed when i go to the local jeep dealership in kansas city. furthermore i mentioned to the jeep dealership that pushed the contract that i am wiling to purchase the best contract to make sure i do not have an issue with my new vehicle in the future. the constant issues: i have now taken in my jeep for 6 visits! i have only included some of the payments (see the additional paperwork) but you can see a trend here. this jeep had been nothing but a problem since i purchased the vehicle! i am now stuck replacing the steering pump for the 2nd time! i have to pay for the replacement and live without a vehicle. i am out several thousand dollars and still have to take this vehicle (that jeep pushed on me) to the service shop about every 6 months. i just started driving my vehicle from the last service repair (i am getting very familiar to the local jeep dealerships) and still the item is not fixed and my jeep is leaking oil all over our company driveway. this vehicle is a lemon and the company that made the vehicle sold me a bankrupt contract. *nm
Right rear passenger power window regulator failed on 10/3/05, and the window fell down. cost to replace $370.00. while at the repair shop picking up the vehicle, the right front power window regulator failed. regulator also had to be replaced, total for the day $725.00. *nm
Dt: the contact states he owns a 2002 jeep grand cherokee limited. the consumer states that there was technical service bulletin 10005603 regarding the visibility:defroster/defogger system:windshield:controls/wiring. the consumer stated that he had the repairs done, but the cost was $1,357.24. he was still not satisfied with the repair of the vehicle because some of the vents pushed through a lot of air, and some of the vents pushed through a minimum amount of air. the consumer felt that this was a safety defect because it did not allow the defrosting system to work properly on the passenger's side of the vehicle. the consumer was concerned that there was no heat or air conditioning on the passenger's side. the digital control for the passenger's side of the door did not work due to the breaking of the door vents and the duct work for the defrost/defogger, air conditioner, and heating system. the consumer contacted the manufacturer, and they stated they would get back in contact with the consumer after they contacted the dealership. when the manufacturer called back, they stated there was nothing that they would do because the vehicle was over the three year, 36,000 miles warranty.*ak the transmission governor solenoid was replaced. the rotors were replaced because they were warped.
Without any warning and before i knew of its commonality i noticed my defroster not able to keep up and then i had no heat from any vents..blend door failure in 2002 jeep grand cherokee, no heat at all out of any vents, terrible defroster function, very difficult to gain visibility in any inclement weather... i repaired it myself to a cost of $300 or so and around ten hours labor, all with oem chrysler parts, then one year later another failure of the same parts.... *jb
On 9/6 driver side power window regulator failed. went to firestone for repair cost was 420 dollars. 2nd time part was replaced, first time was within warranty period. 3 days later same exact part failed in passenger side door. car has less than 50k miles on it. *jb
2002 grand cherokee unlimited (wj) blend door broken. creaking/groaning sounds coming from under dash. when heater is on, passenger side gets only cold air. first discovered in sept of 2005 while vehicle was below 36000. vehicle still within factory warranty (100,000). was told by dealer that the blender door was broken and not covered under warranty. cost to repair approx. $850.00. unsatisfactory since this seems to be a common problem with wj owners. we've been living with this problem for two years due to the cost of the repair. *jb
I was picking up my children from school on 8/26/05 when we had got home the kids had got out of the car and when my son shut the left passenger side door the window fell down and i had it on lock tried to get it to go back up you could here the motor but it would not take it up but it would take it down. finally had to put a garbage bag over it until i could figure out how to get it up. called to find out how much it would cost and they said around $300.00 but they could get it up for me for $100.00 . then on 9/9/05 we had went out to dinner, after dinner we stopped at my parents house my older son got out to go in and when he shut the door the right passenger side window just fell down. same thing all over again now i am at a replacement cost of around $600.00 plus whatever labor is. as i was reading under all the complaints i found that i am not the only one that has had this same problem, this is a safety problem what if there was a storm and you are driving down the road and the regulator fails what would happen? this really needs to be checked into because people have infant children that ride in the back passenger seats. *jb
Dt: the contact complained about a problem with the window glass . the windows were off track and the glass dropped down inside the door compartment. he took the vehicle to a dealer. the windows were repaired at the contact's expense. *ak
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 jeep grand cherokee. on august 11, 2005, the front passenger side window regulator failed. the window was up at the time of the failure. approximately one year later, the driver side window regulator failed. the window was up at the time of the failure and the contact could hear a popping sound before the failure occurred. a few months later, the rear driver side window failed in the same manner. the dealer repaired all the window failures. on september 17, 2007 the rear driver side window failed again. the contact has all the repair orders for the failures. the failure mileage was 50,745 and current mileage was 79,362.
Blend door failure 2002 jeep grand cherokee, cold air comes in on passenger side around glove box. can not turn heater on high, if you do heater turns off because of resister that has been replaced once already(had to wait for the part because of back order, imagine that). winter weather - cold outside, warm bodies in jeep, windows fog, no visibility!! leave jeep sit outside with fog on windows - scrape ice (which once was fog) off the inside of windows. this is a problem that needs attention by jeep. does someone have to loose their life before this gets addressed by anyone!! i understand that this part(s) are replaced and keep going out. at $1500 to fix each time, how can anyone afford to drive the jeep gc. *tr
Engine light came on my jeep i took it to the dealership and they informed me the light is from a malfunction with the gas cap seal. also the heater and a/c don't work and i had them look into it they said the main device inside the dash was malfunctioning and want to charge me over $850. also my seat heaters don;t work anymore and again they said the heating pad failed. they refuse to repair the malfunctioning parts stating it's not cover in the warranty that ended 1 and a 1/2 month ago
Air circulation system has failed for the second time, causing unpredictable window frost conditions. *jb
