I have owned my 2002 jeep grand cherokee laredo for 10 years. i purchased the car new from liberty auto city in libertyville, il. at 80,000 miles, i was leaving for school when i noticed my driver side window had fallen into the door. when i tried to use the switch to raise the window, it did not work. i took this car to the dealership, they knew right away that i had a problem with the window regulator, and they fixed it to the tune of $400. the dealership knew what it was because they have fixed so many, and the novice internet surfer would be able to search out this problem and find a myriad of complaints from grand cherokee and liberty owners alike. i understand a class action lawsuit was filed in california by jeep liberty drivers, and jeep has since extended the warranty on liberty windows. jeep reimbursed me $300 of the $400 dollars for this first incident. now, last sunday, i was leaving my home to work the night shift at the hospital, and i noticed the passenger window was rolled all the way down - sure enough, the same thing happened to the other window. i drove to work in a snow storm with the passenger window rolled down. now jeep will not reimburse me for the regulator, which again cost $400 to replace. again, my new jeep dealership, fletcher auto in columbia, missouri, knew exactly what the problem was because they also have seen it often with vehicles from this time period. i urge you to act to create a recall for this known defective part that has caused significant trouble and expense. i was not in danger, but i had to be at work to cover my shift, so i drove in the storm and had to leave my car in an open air unguarded parking garage with the window down all night. i believe jeep should be held accountable for this. i apologize for not providing my vin#, i am actually working in the hospital right now for another shift. *tr

The defrost only works 50% of the time. did not work while driving down the highway at 65mph. this was extremely dangerous as i could not see through the windshield. the next day was working fine and a week later i had the same issue. i had the heater core replaced and the issue is still happening. *tr

I as well as many other people am having problems with my power windows cords and regulators breaking i have put over $400 in one window and now have 2 more broken. chrysler states first that because i am the 4th owner they cannot help me, then states that because of my cars year (2002) and mileage (126k) they cannot help me. *tr

Faulty blend doors in 2002 jeep grand cherokee ltd a/c unit. *tr

2002 jeep grand cherokee. consumer states problem with front window regulators *tgw the front window regulators were replaced by an authorized jeep repair facility three times in the past 14 months. the consumer stated based on owner reports, the plastic piece on the window lift mechanism that held the cable appeared to be at least part of the problem.

2002 jeep grand cherokee limited. may 2010 front passenger side window fell down while driving. march 2011 back driver side window fell down while driving with my 4 year old daughter on that side. went to dealer said it would cost $800 to fix both windows. the way it sounds this is happening alot. it needs to be recalled. had to drive 30 minutes in 20 degree weather home with daughter in car. something things to happen asap. to much money to be spending ever 6 months to a year. *tr

electrical system:wiring:interior/under dash. nhtsa campaign id number : 01v288000 my 2002 jeep grand cherokee is having electrical issues of this nature. car lost directionals and heater/defroster, brake lights on highway. all electrical related. *tr

The defroster blows cold air randomly while driving in the winter. causes the windshield to fog, then freeze while driving. this is a very common issue and easy fix, but requires removing the entire dashboard assembly. to replace a $5 piece of plastic. this is a common issue and a safety problem and should be covered by the dealer. *tr

Driving along the highway when the passenger window started to go down by itself. i had some paperwork in the car and it started blowing around, causing me to become distracted and nearly hitting another car on the highway until i was able to pull over safely. the window regulator failed, which is a common problem with the jeep grand cherokee. *tr

I have been having troubles with the blender doors closing all the time on my 2002 jeep grand cherokee limited. i have had the suv for not even 3 years and the doors have closed 4 times already. 2 months ago they closed and it cost $1,200 to fix it, now 2 months later the doors closed again today 5/27/10. this is getting out of hand. these blender doors have a defect and chrysler is not doing anything about it. *tr

Dual control a/c heater unit on the jeep grand cherokee limited stop working. *tr

Failure of both passenger and driver front window control mechanisms within 17 months of each other. replacement is $545.00 each, with two hours labor ($212.00) being charged when it took less than 1 hour to complete replacement. service was at a jeep dealership. *tr

The heater failed in my 2002 jeep grand cherokee. this is apparently a very common problem in this model. previously the seat heaters overheated and the power steering hose failed. *tr

I don't understand how the nhtsa can ignore the problem with the hvac blend door assembly unit on the wj jeeps. how can having no heat and no defroster not be a safety issue. i live in maine and can not afford the estimated $1200 repair to fix this widely known defect. try driving in 15 degree whether with snow on the roads and no defroster. guess what happens? your breath causes the windows to fog hence to the point on no visibility. i slid off the road after hitting a snow bank on the side because i could not see and was trying to scrape the quarter inch on frost on my window off. this is ridiculous chrysler needs to do something. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the heater ducts would not function correctly due to leakage in the evaporator coil. the heater core was replaced by the dealer. after the repair, moist air emitted throughout the vents causing the windows to become foggy. the contact had concern with the health and safety hazards regarding the air quality circulated throughout the vents. the failure mileage was 65,351.

Due to poor manufacturing and low quality parts, 1999-2004 jeep grand cherokees have been subject to breakage of interior parts controlling the heating and a/c systems, including but not limited to the blend doors and actuator. this system breakdown can occur suddenly, and can affect both the a/c and heating systems. when this occurred to my 2002 jeep grand cherokee ltd. it was in the dead of winter (dec 2009) and the weather had been extremely cold. i was unable to properly defrost my windows, causing extreme difficulty in seeing out of my windshield and right side mirror. because of this i was often having to roll down my windows--even if it was snowing--in order to drive safely to school and work. in march i took my car to a local jeep dealership to get more information on this issue and i was told by one of the service advisor that this is a known problem in many jeeps, and is seen very frequently. due to the problem being in the dash of the vehicle, the repair quote is over $1,300.00, and is not covered by my pre-owned vehicle protection plan with western general. daimler-chrysler has received thousands of complaints about this issue but refuses to recall a warranty or assist jeep owners in repairing broken parts. i am not comfortable paying $1,300 and being penalized for daimler-chrysler's mistake when, if repaired with the same parts, i could be facing this same issue again very soon! *tr

I am paying for a 2002 jeep grand cherokee that i purchased used in 12-06. i have had a problem with the heater 6 months after i purchased it used, which the dealer would not repair. i called chrysler and no one returned my call until this month. i received a recall about the fan blades and took it into the shop. prior to the shop appointment the check engine light came on, i asked the service tech to check why the heater was not working and why the check engine light was on. he called me to tell me that the recall part was on back order and that the blend motor and doors on the heater were broken and that the leak detection pump had gone out, which would prevent me from getting it inspected. he also told me that the heater plugs were melted and it needed a wiring harness replacement. the dash gets very hot which has melted the plugs but no heat is blowing into the vehicle. this could cause a fire inside the vehicle. also the leak detection pump is an emissions problem and per federallaw has to be operating in order to pass inspection. i spoke with chrysler and asked them to repair the vehicle and they laughed at me, telling me this vehicle had been out of warranty for 4.5 years. (it was out when i purchased it.)and if it were still under warranty then they would fix it. i also asked why if the recall had been out since 2006 then why was i just now getting it, and the part was on back order which tells me that i have been driving an unsafe vehicle.he also told me that the heater being broken was not a safety issue, it is due to not having heat to defrost windows and plugs melting could cause a fire. i have checked the web and there are so many web sites that talk about these problems with the jeeps that go back to 1998- 2005. please help me i am out of work due the medical problems and i have a very tight budget. i have contacted the n.c. attorney generals office, consumer affairs, chrysler, nat. assoc. consumer affairs. at this point nothing has been done.-sharon *tr

The heater / defroster stopped blowing hot air out on both passenger and driver's side of vehicle causing dangerous conditions while driving in cold conditions. i live in colorado and the other day even the inside rear view mirror was frozen and was no use. *tr

In may 2009 my passenger front window regulator went out. my local jeep dealership said that jeep makes cheap window regulator parts and this is a common problem with jeeps. yet they wanted to charge me $497.00 to fix problem. i went ahead and fixed it, because i couldn't drive around with a window rolled down everywhere i went. now 5 months later the passenger rear window has also broken, due to the same problem and the sunroof will also not close properly. i feel that if jeep admits to using cheap parts for their windows, then they should also fix them for free when they break so often. i cannot afford close to $500 per window every 6 months when they keep breaking. *tr

Same common problem that has occurred on thousands of chrysler/jeep grand cherokee's. the blend door actuators that regulate hot and cold air fail so that heat stops working entirely. this also means the defrost stops working which is a major safety hazard when driving in wet and cold climates like the winter months in washington state. i recently drove over one of our mountain passes and could not see anything because it was snowing and i could not defrost the windshield. the repair costs $1600 at a chrysler dealership. *tr

The heater on my 2002 jeep grand cherokee only works approx. 25% of the time. the person i purchased it from said it only happened to her every so often, but that it had gotten worse. since i've owned it, it has continued to get progressively worse. i'm concerned as winter is approaching and i'll need to see out the windshield and will need a heat defroster for it living here in nebraska. this is a long known problem and i'm shocked that chrysler has not recalled this problem as it poses major safety implications. i've worked on cars for 15 years and have never heard of a heater going bad. as any mechanic out there, heaters don't go bad unless the whole heater core is bad, in which case i'd have a floor full of anti-freeze, which i do not have. my jeep has not lost an ounce of fluid and runs at perfect operating temperature. it's an obvious electrical problem that jeep should be held accountable for! there are numerous posts on numerous forms with hoards of people having the same problem that jeep is charging $1500 to fix. talk about a scam!!! *tr

Climate control system blend door failure. *tr

My window regulators keep failing one at a time in my 2002 jeep grand cherokee. the first time it happened on a major highway and there was a loud bang in which i thought i hit something. then my window fell in the door providing me no protection on i-95. most recently, in june 2009, my passenger window failed during a major electrical storm (evening of june 11, 2009 in wilmington, de) leaving myself and car soaked with no protection. *tr

Three of four power window regulators have failed suddenly and without notice, all within a year of each other with the most recent being last week. each time it occurs, there is a popping sound followed by the window dropping into the door. i have so far been fortunate to only have this happen when driving at speeds <30mph and without my child or dog being in the vehicle; however, there's still that 4th window with the same faulty plastic component that has been failing. i replaced the first window regulator at full cost at the dealership when it happened last year. when the second one went out, i didn't fix it because of the cost and the fact that it was a rear window. after the third one failed, i got suspicious. the service manager at the local dealership has stated that he has seen this issue on numerous occasions mostly with the liberty model, but on the grand cherokee as well. it is obvious that chrysler is aware of the issue; however, each agent i spoke with on their help line tried to downplay the issue like it was a freak occurrence and that there was no reason for a recall. based on the research i'm now seeing online and the comments from the service manager, i know this is not the case. *tr

I own a 2002 jeep cherokee 4x4 quad drive ,i recently broke down had to be towed. the problem was cooling fan. due to the relay switch. this is just one of many electrical problems i have with this jeep the door lock motors failed the windows failed on both driver and passenger side doors the bk hatch failed. the cost for the relay pkg was 347.59 i have yet to replace passengerside window operator and driverside door locks as they are both well over 300.00 each. this seems to be a defect as i have heard the same complaints from people that own 2002 jeep cherokees. *tr

visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower. *tr

I own a 2002 jeep grand cherokee laredo. in the spring of 2007, my driver's side window regulator broke (the window fell, would not roll up or down). i had it replaced. in october 2007, the same thing happened to my passenger side window. in may 2008, the same to my right rear passenger window, and in sept 2008, the same to my left rear passenger window. all windows have failed within one year of each other. the final straw was today when the rear drivers side window regulator failed again. i do not have the money to fix these, and believe that chrysler should issue a recall to repair the windows. i have received an estimate of $347 per window to repair the three windows. i can't afford this and expect jeep to correct the problems. *tr

Heating system in 2002 jeep grand cherokee failed. i don't have defrost, heat. have heard of numerous complaints from other cherokee owners with the same problem. *tr

Visibility-defrost. *tr

My 2002 jeep cherokee started blowing heat only on the drivers side and cold air on the passenger side. the windows were constantly fogging up making driving only possible by lowering the windows to reduce fogging. now, i have no heat and the mechanic says it is my blower doors and that this happens to alot of jeeps. we had to abandon the vehicle during a snow / freezing rain even last week and then couldn't drive it for the next several days due to freezing conditions. i have replaced the heater core due to fogging windows 2 years ago and the ac had to be charged constantly to stay cool. this is dangerous to drive and you freeze during cold times. i always have to make sure precip in not expected whenever we drive this vehicle during winter months. jeep owners need help with this...! now my passenger window wont go up either. *tr

2002 jeep grand cherokee, laredo, 4x4 i noticed that the vehicles hvac is not functioning correctly. this causes sometimes obstructed views in passenger side compartment . this occurs everyday when vehicle is running i'm currently in the process of repairing this defect myself. *tr

2002 jeep grand cherokee overland. heater/defroster blowing cold air causing windshield to freeze up. i searched the complaints and cannot believe that there hasn't been a recall on this model vehicle. has 60 minutes or the national media been apprised of the problems with this model vehicle? this is what i believe is a serious problem. maybe not if you live in florida, but i live in connecticut. i only hope someone wakes up and addresses this issue!!!! *tr

The automatic blend doors to control the heat are broken and now only blows cold air out of my vents, my windshield now freezes up very easily and makes driving in freezing condition very dangerous. *tr

The heater on my 2002 jeep grand cherokee blows cold air on the drivers side. *tr

Passenger and driver side power window actuators have failed. the passenger side failed first and was covered by an extended warranty. a few months later the driver side failed. vehicle is only 6 years old. *tr

The windows in this jeep have always worked great. on december 3th, we rolled the window down, but it wouldn't go up. the regulator in the passenger side front window broke and the window will not roll up. it will soon be fixed. *tr

Hvac blend door breakage leading to expensive dashboard removal for part replacement. online forums suggest this is a very common problem. jeep grand cherokee laredo 2002. *tr

My 2002 grand jeep cherokee's heat stopped working and i was told that the actuator doors were gone. this was determined by the dealer. now my heated seats have stopped working.the dealership gave me an estimate of about 1300.00 dollars to replace the doors. *tr

I own a 2002 jeep grand cherokee limited v8. since i have owned the vehicle i have been battling with no heat. there is a problem with the blend door that comes with the dual module heating and cooling system. i sell homes and people do not get loans if there is no heat in the house. it is considered uninhibitedly. what do i say to my 2 year old when they want to be warm while driving anywhere in the cold months. their are to many people with the same problem with the same vehicles. a recall is mandatory. *tr

The blend doors stop operating correctly and there is no heat and no control of the air on the passenger side of the dash. dash needs to be removed to replace blend doors and mechanisms. *tr

Prior to the problem the vehicle performed as designed and then suddenly a snap noise came from the dash area and then the windows fogged while i was driving. the failure was a plastic component of the climate control vent system and the consequences are no heating of the drivers compartment and compromised comfort & visibility while driving. the only solution that the jeep dealer offers is to replace the badly designed expensive parts with equally inferior expensive oem replacement parts which are inevitably going to break again. diagnostic / repair quote $1600.00 i sought advice / info regarding my problem and discovered on my own a company in texas which makes a reliable / permanent solution for the jeep grand cherokee poorly designed dual control vent & recirc systems. i bought an after mkt repair kit from a texas co. heatertreater.com for $225. the superior designed parts are impervious to breakage like the oem jeep components and will not repeat this trouble in my vehicle like the original parts. please review heatertreater.com as useful info as to how jeep engineers should have built it and to see demonstration of the problem. my old parts are available for you to review. *tr

Have a 2002 overland jeep and the heat has gone out on it for a second time. very expensive to keep fixing and was told this is common for this vehicle. *tr

Blend doors failed on 2002 jeep grand cherokee. cannot get heat, defrost windows, etc. this happen to our jeep at 80,000 miles, but i have heard from many jeep owners with the same problem, some happening as soon as 40,000 miles. this is clearly a manufacturing defect and is a safety issue if one cannot properly defrost windows. cost is $1,200 to repair per dealership. *tr

I own a 02 jeep grand cherokee limited. first it started off with only hot air on my drivers side and freezing cold air on my passenger side, now its just cold all around. i took the car to the dealership and they said its a problem with the blend door system and it would cost over 1000 dollars to fix. when i looked online to find a quick fix for the problem i learned there are thousands of people with the same problem. this should be deemed a manufactures defect. *tr
