We have classified the 57 complaints from 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee about VISIBILITY into the following categories.
In the fall of 2008, my son and my wife exited the front of the vehicle and closed their doors. within a second or two, both of them heard a bang but saw nothing wrong, as they were both at the front of the vehicle and unable to see their side windows. after returning to the vehicle, my son noticed his window was not up as he had left it. he was unable to raise the window normally so a cold trip home followed. a quick investigation revealed a failed window regulator. since i was not going to pay someone a ridiculous amount to replace the part, i did it myself after finding a window regulator at a local parts store. since the vehicle was not operating when the failure of the window regulator occurred, safety was not an issue relative to operation. however, since the failure was undetected at the time, or if it had happened after walking away from the vehicle, there was obviously a safety issue relative to an unsecured vehicle. the vehicle was open to anyone or anything wanting to enter it. it also created a potential for further damage from inclement weather. in august 2009, the driver side window regulator failed. the driver and front passenger side windows had been lowered to help cool the inside prior to driving. when the windows were raised, only the front passenger window responded. the driver side window would not raise. the vehicle was driven home where i replaced the window regulator. the same part failed in both instances. this part is obviously insufficient for its purpose. a failure of the window regulator and subsequent dropping window could easily cause enough distraction to initiate a moving incident. whoever owns the jeep trademark these days needs to fix this problem and issue a recall before there is an accident, a driver returns to a ransacked vehicle or worse, there is a car jacking by an unknown and uninvited passenger. *tr
Front driver side window went down and was covered under warranty. now all three remaining windows are down. all three went within the same month. this is obviously a factory defective problem and very expensive. chrysler should recall and cover this issue at their expense. *tr
Blend door actuator failure, safety issue!! no visibility!!! no heat on passenger side. *tr
Apparently there is a huge number of jeep grand cherokee owners with defective blend door actuators. i am one of them. i own a 2002 jeep grand cherokee limited and have no heat on my passenger side. no defrost, big safety issue. dealer quotes over $1,000 to repair. i can't afford that! *tr
This is in regards to the blend door issue on jeep grand cherokee models that have the dual climate control. the fact that this issue is imminent in nearly every one of these vehicles is disturbing enough in itself, but what is downright unacceptable is that the average cost to repair ranges from 1000.00-1300.00!! this issue is so prevalent that 3 different jeep site forums have had so many jeep owners bring this up that it has become a posted issue. i have recently purchased a 2002 model and, knock on wood, have not experienced this issue. i believe it actually may have already been taken care of, but in the event that i am wrong, i can only hope and pray that dc/jeep has stepped up and done what is right, and, at the very least, as a recall/tsb, covers a large portion of this repair. *tr
I was getting ready to go to work. it was cold and i needed to turn on the heat. i turned the heat on and all i got was cold air, the entire 30 miles that it takes for me to get to work. took it to the dealership and they told me that it was my blend doors and that it would cost $1500. *tr
2002 jeep grand cherokee blend door actuator broken and defrosted is now disabled i can not see. *tr
My 2002 grand cherokee suddenly has no heat. the defroster works randomly and sometimes shuts down only blowing cold, outside air causing the window to fog up with no warning. after researching this issue online there are thousands of complaints about this, the dealer fix is to take off the dash ($1000+ in labor) to fix a $20 part. there are parts available online to do the fix yourself for $100. seems to me that not only does jeep know there is a factory default with their jeeps, they rip people off by charging exorbitant amounts of $$ to fix something simple. i searched through your database and there are pages and pages of complaints for the same issue. at this point i am going to fix it myself because i cant go through the winter without heat, but im sure as heck not going to take it to the dealer and get charged $2500. and im definitely never buying another gm car again. *tr
3 out for 4 regulators had to be replaced on my 2002 grand jeep. *tr
2002 jeep grand cherokee limited (v8) went out to car this morning and driver side windows was half down in door - tried to roll it up - nothing. window then fell into door frame completely - regulator problem with plastic part. *tr
2002 jeep grand cherokee. blower controller connector is overheating and melting connector and now not working. replacement with new connector is possible from dealer with morpar repair kit #05102406aa . however... this does not fix the problem as it will happen again and again. this is due to strain on the blower motor drawing high amps because the common problem with this jeep is with the ac "blend doors" which was the first problem for me....as with many jeep cherokee owners. it costs over $1000 to fix a simple problem with the blend door because the entire dash has to be removed! so, the blend doors are a common problem with an expensive fix, and if you don't fix it, the blower motor and controller will overheat, leaving you with no air control to remove moisture in damp weather. the controller could overheat, possibly cause a fire, or if the controller and blower don't work, you have no way of clearing foggy windows....bad thing! very frustrated as this should be part of a major recall. why should so many jeep owners have to pay for a simple, yet expensive fix? *tr
When blower motor turned on high panel under passenger side under dash getting extremely hot. removed paneling under dash and wires are melting, too hot to touch! extreme fire hazard!!!! huge liability!! scared to even turn on blower motor any more due to possibility of fire. during current rain storm unable to get windows defogged to see to drive had to pull off to side of road. *tr
Brought my 02 jeep grand cherokee in november 2007 had problems with the heat mode blowing cold out the passenger side vents. to stop this and make the passenger side feel the heat i had to tape up the vents on the passenger side. well summer of 2008 began so i remove the tape from the vents. with the ac on the air flow was weak the as was recharged the driver side blew cold, but passenger side was weak. around august turn on the ac nothing but a very weak airflow from both sides. the possible villains blend air doors and the air recirculation door. cost from dealer to repair 1,000.00 to 1,200.00 the winter of 2008/ 2009 is approaching no heat and *no defrost. could get dangerous. pleas help!!!!!!!! *tr
Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower having a visibility problem with the heater/airconditiong in car heating/airconditioning not clearing windshield. *tr __________________
Blend door failure on '02 grand cherokee. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at an unknown speed, the seat frame spontaneously failed and allowed the seat to suddenly retract backwards. the failure increased the risk of a crash. the dealer stated that the entire seat frame needed to be replaced at the cost of over $400. he is in the process of having the seats repaired. secondly, the power windows worked intermittently. the dealer replaced the window regulators. thirdly, he noticed that fluid from the heater coil leaked into the front passenger side of the vehicle. the manufacturer would not assume any responsibility for the repair because the vehicle exceeded the warranty. the failure and current mileages were 94,000.
Blend and recirculation door failures in hvac unit. failure is extremely common, and costs over $1,000 in repairs. *tr
Blend doors on my 2002 jeep grand cherokee not working. *tr
Blend door failure in 2002 jeep grand cherokee. may 19, 2008. *tr
Two years ago my passenger side heat stop working. when i took it to the dealer, they stated that it was not cover by any warranty and it would cost $1500.00 to repair. so the put tape over those vents and only had the driver side working. last may my driver side stop blowing hot air also. took back to the dealer, guess what it will cost $1200.00. i'm tried of this, jeep should have a recall! *tr
Blend doors on the hvac system have failed. passenger side only blows cold air. a common problem on these jeeps. *tr
While rolling up driver side front window, heard a loud noise within car door. window then fell into door and would not go back up. informed by dealer that the regulator was broken. service dept stated that this happens frequently because the part is made of plastic. was charged $295 for replacement part. exact same thing happened to my brother, who also owns a 2002 jeep grand cherokee, two months ago. *tr
I own a 2002 jeep grand cherokee limited and it is equipped with dual climate control. i've noticed a funny noise coming from the bottom of the dash it almost sounds like a twisting or a clapping noise. just recently i needed to turn on my heater because it was really cold out and for some reason although the temp was set all the way too high it was still blowing cold air from the driver side. however, the passenger side still worked fine. i bought this vehicle used and i know it will cost way more than i can ever afford for this repair. i have investigated this issue and understand that the problem is imminent to jeep owners. i understand that the company feels it is not a safety issue but a luxury. however it is for most of us that own a suv it is because we need to transport our families comfortably. for that is what they advertise. i have a new born child and i think it is ridicules i can not transport her in my jeep because it is to cold for her and she would be at risk of getting pneumonia, because the chrysler corporation has failed to take care of their customers. please help us in making the company fix their inadequate climate control problem and live up to their expectations. *tr
The blend doors on my 2002 grand jeep cherokee have broken and no heat to defroster or to interior car. jeep mixed problem in 2004 models but refuses to issue a recall. this is a major problem/safety issue since windshield will not defrost and cause potential accident. many people have left messages to your website about this over the yrs. why are you not doing anything? does someone have to die first? i guess so. thanks . *tr
While driving home last year i rolled my driver side window up and heard a loud bang. i at first thought that someone had hit my vehicle with a large rock but then the window dropped down into the door. when i got home, i went online and found quite a few complaints about the window regulators failing in chrysler grand cherokees and the fact that chrysler is aware of the issue but refuses to cover the repair. i also found that these problems could have been prevented if they'd just used a 25 cent piece of metal instead of the plastic piece they used. because i could not afford the $400 + it would cost to have this repaired, i found the instructions online and bought the replacement regulator and replaced it myself. however, all the complaints i read about say that all the windows will fail at some point. i have neither the time or even the money to get them all replaced. i think this is something that chrysler should address. had i been on the interstate when this happened, it quite possible that the bang of the piece failing would have been enough to cause me distraction and lead to an accident. *tr
The blend door on my jeep grand cherokee stopped working all of a sudden and now i need to replace them which is going to cost hundreds of dollars. *tr
Cold air blowing from passenger side vents and windshield defroster regardless of control or temp settings. driver side temp adjustments work properly, but passenger side and windshield defroster controls do not provide any heat. windshield does not defrost, as temp mix is not functioning for passenger vents or for windshield defroster. problem has not been resolved. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 jeep grand cherokee overland. while driving 55 mph with the heater engaged, the heater failed to blow from the front passenger side blower. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the dealer advised the contact that the blend air door on the front passenger side would need replacing. the contact stated that the failure caused the defrost on the passenger side to become inoperable and would decrease visibility. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 50,000.
This is a complaint against nhtsa. it appears that even though 100's of consumers have complained about a certain problem with the air flow blend door on jeep gc products nothing is done about it. it is obvious that this failure is a defect and not a wear and tear problem. i am sure there would be 1000's of complaints but not everyone knows about this site or they don't have a computer. it appears that this web site does nothing but allow people to vent about problems with their vehicles and nothing more is done about it or with it. our tax dollars pay these people at nhtsa and we get nothing for our money. they don't care about how much money it costs you to fix something and they don't care if it could possibly cause you physical injury or emotional pain because if they did then they would have determined that this problem is a defect. . this is not the first time i have been personally affected by the actions, well lack of actions by the nhtsa. i feel it is a waste of time for anyone to file a complaint with the nhtsa since they do nothing with the information you give them. have a happy holiday season all you jeep grand cherokee owners. *tr
Heat stopped working on the passenger side of my vehicle. now there seems to be little to no heat on the driver's side. i was told that this has been an issue with the jeep grand cherokee line, and yet nothing is done about it. of course this always seems to happen after the warranty has expired. i have yet to pursue repairs as this will cost me almost $500. *tr
No heat, poor defroster performance. was told the problem is the heater blend door has failed and the cost is around $`1,800.00 to repair. i started last winter with no head on the passenger side, now there is no heat on either side. defrosters not properly clearing windshield. *tr
Broken blend doors and actuator in heating system on 2002 jeep grand cherokee. *tr
Heating/ac non-functioning. blows only cold air. jeep grand cherokee 2002. started @ 75,000 mi with only cold air on passenger side, 1 year later only cold air both sides. jeep dealer wants $1200 to replace a "blend door" behind the glove compartment. many other jeep owners with same problem. *tr
Blend door for heater doesn't work, will not defrost windshield. poor visibility. *tr
Heater/ac blend doors have detached from the shaft attached to the electric motor. the doors circulate conditioned air to the cab and are responsible for defrosting the windshield. the windshield no longer defrosts causing visibility issues during the winter months. *tr
While driving, the front passenger side window slid down in its track. i had to pull over and pull the window up by hand. the same thing happened to my jeep's front driver side window on 12/22/05, except that occurred at night and it was 15 degrees outside (lived in ny at the time)-had to drive half an hour home with the window wide open. *tr
I have a 2002 jeep grand cherokee. i have had to have 3 window regulators replaced. i only have one left, who knows when that will go, perhaps next year, because it seems one breaks per year. i have had each of these replaced at a chrysler dealer. chrysler is quite aware that this is a problem with it's vehicles, but is unwilling to do anything about it, because it is not a "safety issue". this part with labor is $460 each time it needs to be replaced. chrysler is willing to keep draining the pockets of its consumers with no care to its loyal customers. there are 5 pages of complaints on automotive.com with the same issues. i want to file an official complaint. chrysler is unwilling to do anything to correct the problem, because the vehicle is no longer under warranty. i would like my money back. i think this car is a lemon!!!! i have put more money into this vehicle over the last two years then i have paid for the car. i hope you can help me retrieve some of my financial losses. *tr
Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower. *tr
I own a 2002 jeep grand cherokee overland with 44,500 miles. the events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of jeep. consequently,(1) the windshield and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. in addition to the fogging there is a leak of antifreeze, hazardous material, coming into the vehicle driver and passenger areas, due to defective heater core. to correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary and a new heater core at a cost of approximately $1,700 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. according to the certified service department at the local jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 jeep grand cherokee limiteds/overlands with dual zone ventilation systems. *tr
When heat is on, cold air blows from the passenger side. i believe the passenger side blend door is broken. i believe this is a factory/design problem and it affects the defogger and visibility. estimates over $1,000 to repair. *tr
Repeated climate control blend door failure on 2002 jeep grand cherokee. *tr
Today while driving my 2002 jeep grand cherokee overland, the heater stopped sending warm air to the driverside defroster and heat outlets (has dual zone controls). i suspected it was a problem with the "flow doors" which control the amount of warm air to enter the passenger cabin. upon researching the problem on the internet, it appears this is an identified defect affecting many jeep grand cherokee owners. the problem is apparently not correctable without replacing the "flow doors" and door actuators. i called the local dealership and they acknowledge it is a known problem and have received a technical service bulletin on the issue. estimated repair cost is $1100 plus. my opinion is that since it is a known manufacturing defect, it should be covered through a recall and at no expense to the owner. also the fix provided by chrysler dealership is known to fail prematurely after short period of operation. *tr
I want complain about hvac system in myjeep grand cherokee overland 2002, i bought a car on 19.11.2007 and one week after i ve got cold air only and no heat /passenger and driver side/, outside -2 and after one hour driving temp inside +1 , so if im planning to go to centre of europe where in middle of january is about - 15 than i will be frozen over, that my first wj but i really disappointed when i heard that repair of this item in uk cost 1200 pounds!!!!!!!!!!!car done approx 48000 miles so im really anxious to think what would be happening when he reach 100,000.....my god! *tr
While vehicle was parked, driver side window fell, and power window control failed to raise the window. it is now stuck in the half-open position, pending repair. my research shows that this is a common recurring problem among jeep owners, and that the repair is approx. $400 for each incident. given the hundreds of owner reports i have since discovered for this exact problem, chrysler should issue a recall to both improve the quality of the part(s) and remedy the problem. *tr
The heater blower blows very cold air on passenger side. very poor defrosting on windshield even with the temperature setting on max. *tr
I have a 2002 jeep grand cherokee limited and always heard noises from the vent since i bought the jeep, got it checked out when it was under warranty and they did something to the actuator. a little over a year ago i had coolant leaking into my car on the passenger side, had to get a new heater core ($800) then when they finished no heat was coming out, it was the blend door so they had to redo all the work in getting in there ($350 after i complained), 3 months ago, same problem heater core leak ($920), now 3 months after that i have no heat, took it in last week, blend door problem and $730. i have no heat in my jeep!! i cannot believe they do not have a recall for this problem with so many people having the same issue and i have had it twice! something should be done. *tr
We have a 2002 jeep grand cherokee and since the first month that we purchased it nwe we have had problems with the window regulators breaking. we have now had four to break in the five years that we have had the vehicle. the first one that broke was repaired under warranty, but the other three have taken place since the beginning of august of this year. the first window regulator that we had to have repaired by the dealership cost $422. we have not had the other two windows fixed yet, because we are hoping that daimler chrysler will help us out with this. i have contacted the customer service center and they will not cover the malfunction due to the warranty expiring. i feel this is an eventual safety issue. when the cable snaps it sounds like a shot gun firing, which could cause the driver to react to the noise. more than anything, i find it to be a manufacturing defect that consumer nation wide are having to pay for. i have read hundreds of similar problems of jeep grand cherokee owners on car forum websites on the internet. *tr
Windows fog up so bad i can't see on right side of car. cold air blows out on passenger side even as the temp control is set on hi position. ran diag. on hvac and error code 52 = ai (recirc) door travel range too large & 56 = right temperature door travel too large. *tr
Blend door failure in the hvac system of my 2002 jeep grand cherokee overland. failure causes hvac system to blow cold air only. this could be catastrophic as i live in colorado and need heat in the winter for visibility out the windshield. *tr
First there was the recall on the electric radiator fan, and now consequently the heater, or blower doesn't produce hot air. there has been multiple hundreds of these similar problems within the past year check this link to secure the validity of this argument http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/jeep-grand-cherokee/tserat48371icob68/p14. *tr
