Problems with 2007 Jeep Commander ENGINE

On average, the 2007 Jeep Commander starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 98 130 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2007 Jeep Commander

Driving at 58-60mph car stalled very briefly,a second or so, chimed once and then kept going, after about 1/2hr driving same speed my car did the exact same thing, stalled,we actually lurched forward in our seat, then 40 min later car did it again. 3 times total. i pulled off the highway and shut my car off and then drove without problems. *tr

9/13/14 at 0945, the vehicles engine light came on and vehicle started stalling. vehicle was taking to firestone and diagnostic service(engine analysis). mechanic stated that they could not find anything wrong beside the throttle body was dirty. we had the throttle cleaned. 9/13/14 at 1325 while traveling on multi-lane free way. vehicle stalled and choked smoked. vehicle was able to start and merge on to an exit and stalled again, several time before we were able to move out the way of traffic. had vehicle towed to another firestone. at that time another engine analysis was completed. after a few hours we we're inform that cylinder 1, 2, and 4 were lost/failed. also that it would not have been notice during a normal check-up and that they could not fixed it was a manufacturer issue. *tr

On the way home from work one night my engine light came on. we took it to our mechanic the next day and had it checked. we were told it was the knock sensor causing the warning. he had to order the parts to replace the sensors. after they were replaced it was just fine for about three weeks. the check engine came back on again. took back to our mechanic he said they were bad and replaced them again. the first two were sets from auto parts suppliers but when the second part failed he ordered a set from the jeep dealer. well they failed. he has been in contact with the jeep dealer trying to figure out what is wrong. according to them they have never had a problem with the knock sensor. i find that hard to believe. my mechanic is at his wits end about it. he contacted the dealer about the cost to have them check them out. they told him just to scan the computer was $94.00 a half hour and to run a complete test would be $100.00 a hour and take maybe two to three hours. i can't believe we have the only jeep commander that has this problem. *tr

I was driving my 2007 jeep commander, 5.7l hemi at approximately 25 mph on interstate 16 at approximately 2200 hours with my two minor children seatbelted in the back. we were approximately 150 miles from home. there was heavy traffic due to a holiday weekend, road construction, and rainy weather. i recognized a problem was occurring because i could not accelerate, and my attention was diverted from driving because i was trying to figure out what was happening. i realized that the engine had cut off without warning. there was no power to anything, and the vehicle was very hard to steer and to stop. i pulled over to the side, placed the vehicle in park, and tried unsuccessfully to restart the engine. i was able to check under the hood and i found that the oil level was in the normal range and the oil appeared clean. the antifreeze in the reservoir was in the normal range and there was no bubbling. the transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and brake fluid were also within normal ranges. after another try, it restarted, then there was a loud metal clanking sound then copious smoke coming from the tailpipe, then the engine light came on flashing. the temperature gauge registered normal. i turned the truck off and started making phone calls with thunderstorms and severe lightning complicating the situation. we arranged for a tow truck to transport us to a nearby hotel, and the next day i towed the jeep back home using a uhaul truck. mechanics have determined that a piston head is damaged and cracked and the jeep is currently in the shop having a new engine installed. they did not find an obvious cause for the damage to the piston. there are two significant problems: the engine stopped without warning, and the engine failed prematurely. it is unknown if the problems are related to each other. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while driving at approximately 5 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the check engine warning light illuminated. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). the contact stated that the parts needed for the repair were not available. the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 77,105.

I was driving down the highway and check engine light dings and vehicle comes to a stop, i was able to drift off to the side of the road but steering was locked up. engine completely shut off. after about 5 mins i was able to restart engine and now the check engine light bas and traction control lights are on. *tr

My situation began on jul 10, 14 when my vehicle began stalling while driving. since that time, this vehicle has been stalling and quitting on the highway/city streets and sputtering along every time i drive it. this vehicle stop running on me while driving 65 to 70 mph and i have to pull over to restart it. this is at a standstill and cannot be restarted while coasting. another time i was at a stop light and the motor died when i applied the gas pedal. even while turning onto a major highway has given me scary moments. even while at a stand still, the engine has died on me. these incidents that i have described have happened to me and my wife more than once for each situation that i mentioned here. to the best of my judgement, my situation is a major safety issue and an accident waiting to happen. the situation here is that the engine sputters/stalls and quits on me while driving. the cause to me is unknown since i am not a mechanic. as stated, this started jul 2014 and has been ongoing to date.

In the summer of 2014, i was reversing and my 2007 jeep commander turned off twice. it has been happening more frequently since then. my jeep turns off while driving up to 30 miles an hour, and while stopped at a light, and/or a stop sign. the check engine light sometimes turns on, but not always when jeep turns off. sometimes it makes a 'huffing puffing' noise like it's struggling to stay on (before it actually turns off). it always turns on right after, but i have noticed it makes a loud squeaky sound when it turns on after i crank it. that squeaky sound, sounds like the sound it makes when someone tries to crank on the vehicle after vehicle is already been on. the chrysler recall center mailed me a recall p41 notice last summer/fall in 2014. i took it to the chrysler jeep dealership in mcallen, texas for recall p41 service at that time. i've taken my jeep to several mechanics since then, but no one seems to find the problem. the servicemen at dealership said to keep checking in with them to see if they have the part. they said problem is not related to recall p41...and keep advising me of other possible problems. i've fixed all of the possible problems suggested, and yet the 'turning off' still continues! the service manager at dealership, and the chrysler recall center people keep telling me that chrysler has not made part available, and for me to remove any extra keys from the key ring, and to continue driving me jeep until the part is available. chrysler will then mail me notice of recall part availability. i've been dealing with this problem for over a year! it is very scary, especially when it happens unexpectedly in an unreliable vehicle!! i don't feel safe.

The engine turned over several times but would not start. had car towed to my mechanic. valve six of the hemi engine (5.7 liter) was destroyed beyond repair due to a loosened valve seat. had to have engine replaced at a cost of about $7500.00. *tr

I am 74 years of age and at the time of my husband's death four years ago purchased a 2007 chrysler jeep commander which now has 53,815 miles. i began experiencing problems with unexpected complete loss of power on both interstate highways and residential streets over the last year. these occurrences have increased in frequency at varying times when driving within the last six months, and most terrifying on the interstate where i was faced with the realization of deceleration and cutoff at the speed limit of 55 mph. i received a safety recall notice (p41/nhtsa14v-38), round or about april 2, 2015 from chrysler group llc informing me of the vehicular problems described i am experiencing, chrysler group's recall notice makes a clear and specific representation that repairs would performed to correct the vehicle's defects free of charge when it is returned to the dealership. accordingly, southfield chrysler was contacted to schedule an appointment to diagnose the problem and ordered parts on or about april 6, 2015. i have been waiting for the part(s) for nearly three weeks. on april 24, 2015 i again contacted southfield chrysler after the vehicle hesitated to accelerate and was informed the manufacturer: "chrysler either will not, or has not, sent the parts need to fix the problem," contrary to the language of the notice. southfield chrysler will not perform repairs without payment for the parts. southfield chrysler has taken the position: "if i pay for repairs the manufacturer will reimburse me," which continues to leave me subjected to injure and/or death. i do not have the available funds to pay for repairs, relative to living on a fixed income and specific and very limited budget. it is clear to me that the manufacture and dealership will not perform responsibly to address a serious life and death that they are clearly aware exist. a complaint is proper. *tr

I purchased this used jeep on january 7, 2014. one week later, the jeep stalled in traffic on the highway. then stalled the next day on a local street while my teenagers were driving to school. then stalled in traffic the next day while i was turning onto a local street. then stalled again pulling into the driveway. the car was at the dealership for six weeks. they replaced the ignition switch, coils, computer system, wiring system, throttle. i picked the car up at the end of march, 2014. the car was working fine until this past weekend. it stalled again in traffic while my son was driving with four passengers in the car on april 26, 2014. it stalled again while i was driving the car on sunday april 27, 2014. the car was towed to the dealer on april 28, 2014. this vehicle could have caused a fatality. it is not a safe vehicle for anyone to drive. *tr

2007 jeep commander engine stall in stop and in freeway at 65mph out of the blue could barely drive it almost caused us to get into an accident, had to pull over multiple times. *tr

I pulled in my driveway, put my car in park and as i was turning off the key my car made horrible noise, and when i tried to restart the vehicle i had no power. i waited a few minutes and tried the key again, and the dash flicked off and on, off and on and it said transmission over temperature, check gauges, etc. this morning i tried again, and it said some code and then went completely dark today. about a month ago i was driving approximately 60 mph and my car just lurched shut off and restarted itself on a freeway. i talked to the tech - they did not know what it could be. reading there are several complaints about this. still not sure what is wrong with my car this time, i get it serviced regularly and obviously need to have it towed to a dealer to get checked out. *tr

The park assist light comes on causing the vehicle to stall while driving. lost communication with left front door module electrical . *tr

Suv stalled on highway, this has happened for a long time now and always get the same answer. i have had many thing changed that i have been told was the issue, but nothing works. today was that last straw. i was driving to work the suv stalled and almost had a major accident. something must be done about this. there seems to have been recall for this issue before, but jeep said it was not for my vin. well it needs to be . please help me get this fixed before somebody dies, like i just about did today. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled as the engine warning lamp illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the fuel cap was loose and needed to be tighten. the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to another dealer where the technician diagnosed that the electronic shift module was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 160,900.

Vehicle keeps loosing power shifts into n state, pdrn are highlighted with boxes and you have to wiggle shifter to regain power. message is: "service park assist". not sure if this is the same issue that the latest recall (13v175000) listed is however, my jeep doesn't seem to fall in the manufactured date range so i am making a formal complaint since this is kind of low miles to have this kind of an issue with this vehicle and it is happening with my manufactured date vehicle. *jb

The ignition switch position makes unintended position changes while driving. this has happened on several occasions and has resulted in two near-miss accidents. additionally, on occasion, the switch won't allow the car to start, and all power is dead despite a new battery. we have been dealing with this issue for a long time. received recall notice in sept 2014, but chrysler contends that part is still not available, and that the car is safe to drive. this car is not safe to drive! i have called chrysler group recall assistance center at 1-800-853-1403 multiple times and have waited for an hour on a couple of occasions without a pick up. this is also not acceptable. please help! *tr

I have a 2007 jeep commander i first started having an idling problem in august 2013. i took in to allen samuels they did a tune-up it was fine until march of 2014. the check engine light came back on i took back to allen samuels for idle problem & stalling as well. they did a diagnostic test they first stated fan clutch, had a fan clutch installed. after a week later still stalling took back to allen samuel they then stated wiring harness $1300 & them keeping it a week with no loaner. soon as my mom left the dealership couldn't even make it home which was 10 miles away the check engine light came back on next day back to dealership by it being a saturday no skill tech in is what i was told. called chrysler because i saw a recall on stalling engine. tuesday back to dealership chrysler called allen samuels they stated not the same as the recall. allen samuel kept my truck several days then stated water in tank. they emptied tank & clean it. i had service manager test drive before leaving its was still stalling was told to change gas fuel, drive a couple of days & bring back. called chrysler again to complain they advised another dealership. took it to the dealer they recommend after am extensive diagnostic test for $300 i was told to see the sales manager for a new vehicle. i since have had fuel injectors cleaned, spark plugs changed, boots changed, new battery, new water pump. it is still idling & stalling. i really would love for someone to be able to tell me what is wrong & repair it before someone gets killed. *tr

While driving the vehicle under normal conditions on the on-ramp to the highway, the vehicle stalled and lost power. i was not able to restart vehicle in neutral, once it rolled to a stop, and it was placed in drive, the vehicle was able to start. approximately two miles on the highway, driving approximately 60 miles an hour, the vehicle shut down again. it restarted once it came to a complete stop and i was able to put it in drive. *tr

I have a 2007 jeep commander with a chronic stalling problem. within just a couple months of buying this used vehicle, it stalled for the first time on the new york thruway going 70 mph. since then, the vehicle chronically and randomly will stall. i have had it stall as much as 7 times in the space of going 12 miles! it will stall on the highway at 70 mph; or stopped at a stop sign; virtually anywhere anytime! this is extremely dangerous. recently, i had it stall on the highway; i got it restarted and drove to my exit. at the end of the exit ramp when the light turned green, i proceeded to attempt to cross a busy intersection and it died again!!! i can't trust this vehicle and am afraid to drive it much. we have taken it to the local jeep dealership many times without successfully fixing the problem. most recently, we left the commander at the dealership for a week and they thought they had it fixed so we picked it up and in just over 1 day it stalled again. i work only 6 miles from home and can't make it home from work without it stalling. we have put thousands ... and thousands of dollars in repairs replacing sensors (including map), exhaust pipe with catalytic converters, ignition system, ... and the list goes on. looking on the internet, there are many websites and many complaints by other 2007 jeep commander owners for my same stalling problem. the 2006 jeep commander has had recalls for stalling ... and this vehicle (2007 commander) should be recalled and fixed. i cannot stress strongly enough how hazardous this vehicle is. would you place your life ... your loved ones lives ... in a vehicle that chronically stalls anytime and anywhere without warning?? think about it! i am just looking for jeep to fix the problem their design has caused in this vehicle. *tr

The engine stalls during operation (2007 jeep commander). *tr

Yesterday i went to start my jeep and when i turned the key nothing happened. a few seconds later it started without me doing anything. i only had to drive a few blocks and then shut the vehicle off. after 15 min i came back out to start my jeep and nothing... i just had a new battery and starter installed about 4 months ago. after approximately 20 min and trying to start it several times, it turned on. there were no problems w the lights or ac.. i took it to an auto parts store and they hooked it up to the machine, battery, starter, and alternator were all reading good. it started fine for the rest of the day, however when i went to leave work that night, it took a few tries and about 5 min. i also had over half a tank of gas so that's not an issue. i started researching and found many similar cases. i am supposed to take my jeep on a 13 hour trip next month and now i am very nervous that i will end up stranded while on vacation. the fact that i found so many other jeep owners experiencing almost identical problems has left me very upset and nervous every time i need to go somewhere. i also have 2 young children and it worries me to end up stranded somewhere with them. i hope jeep does something about this. i have had mine for 3 years and have loved it thus far. i'm not in a position to get a new vehicle at the moment so i hope this problem is fixed asap. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while driving at any speed, the vehicle would jerk and stall and the check engine light illuminated. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 120,108.

I have had this issue for over a 1.5 years. i've only had the jeep for 2 years. it has progressively gotten worse. the vehicle jerks and putts, the engine light comes on eventually flashes and the car shuts off. chrysler jeep has not, to this day, been able to diagnose the problem even with chrysler engineers. they have kept my car for weeks at a time to no resolve. they have tried replacing multiple parts just to see if it works. on a few occasions i have almost been hit due to the vehicle stalling out. i have been told that chrysler corporate will no longer assist me with this case. *tr

The engine warning light was been on and off for the last 2 years. we have changed-out o2 sensors and other fixes but the problem persisted. the issue was discovered by the local jeep dealership: four of the bolts attaching the manifold onto the hemi 5.7l engine of our commander were broken. the bolts and exhaust manifold gasket are being replaced - $642 cost. *tr

I have had to return this car several times. too many times to be exact. *tr

While driving down the street at approximately 25 miles an hour, the vehicle stalled it was towed to my home because it would not restart at the time. we had a mechanic do a spot check for blown fuses and battery/alternator issues, but no issue was found. the vehicle restarted the next morning. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 66,000 and the current mileage was 70,000.

My jeep has been stalling out at random times while driving. today it stalled twice while moving. it always starts right back up with no warning lights. most of the times it stalls sitting at a light. once it stalled going 65mph on the highway and started right back up by its self. the other day it stalled and it started back up then a few miles down the road the information center beeped and had a warning saying check gauges. the temperature gauge was on cold and it should have been in the middle (normal) because i had been driving for a little bit. i drove it to work and called the jeep dealership to schedule an appointment for after work that day. at the end of the day when i started it up to take it to the dealership the warning "check gauges" was gone. i told the service rep at the dealership what had happened and that its been stalling out. they called the next day and said they couldn't find anything wrong. i drive the car everyday and there is some very wrong with the car. i don't feel safe driving my children in it and we don't take it on the highway now. i wouldn't feel right trading it in and giving someone else the death trap. besides the concern for my families safety, i'm wondering if an accident was caused because my car stalled out how would i be able to prove that it was because the car stalled when the dealership is saying there's nothing wrong. please look into this issue because chrysler seems to not be concerned. *tr

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that while operating the vehicle in the rain the engine would suddenly shut off. in addition, when the engine was idling the rpm's would erroniously increase to 2200 without the throttle pedal being pressed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times but the failure could not be duplicated. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 35,000 jft

While driving on an interstate at 65mph my check engine light came on, a message stating "service parking assist system" appeared, and drnp was blocked on the front dash. the vehicle lost power and acceleration and began to feel as if the emergency brake was applied at full force. i pulled off the highway, turned the car off and back on and the check engine light remains on. online research suggests this is a common problem involving the electronic shifting module and/or connection issues with the rear parking assist sensors. this pervasive problem should be rectified with a recall at no cost to customers. *tr

Vehicle stalled in the middle of highway traffic. warning on dash states "service park assist system". *tr

The commander was sluggish on a trip to florida, when i would press the accelerator, it would hesitate and sputter. the month before this trip, i just had the transmission serviced at 60k to keep the power train warranty intact. so figured something was done incorrectly at the dealership and we would deal with it when we returned home. i wish we would have found a repair shop in fl to look into it as the jeep turned off on us going 74 mph on i-95. we almost got rear ended by a semi. we drove 65 the rest of the way home and it was one of the scariest moments of my life. i took it back to the dealership and they read the code and cleared the code like they did previously when it would do a hard downshift with a lovely clunk when coming to a stop. this fixed the issue until we were coming back from a four hour trip and the lurching forward when going up an incline started again. it cut off, the check engine light came on and stayed lit, as well as the park assist. like before we coasted to the side of the road, turned it off and restarted it. took it back to the dealership and was told it was the fuel sensor and shelled out $750 to get it fixed. i am scared to drive this suv and have never had this issue happen to any of the 20 cars we have previously owned. please look into why this is occurring because if someone dies due to being rear ended when it cuts off, a lawsuit will be imminent. thank you *tr

Vehicle stalls at slow speed, either in rush hr traffic or at stop light/sign. speed is slow, less than 10mph. can place transmission in park/neutral and engine re-starts immediately. has been happening more frequently recently; sometimes happens several times per trip. today it stalled 3 times on way to work at various stops. no check engine light is on while engine is running. when it stalls, the red oil light and lightning bolt light are on, but not flashing, and both go off once engine is running again. it is the 5.7l hemi motor. *tr

My 2007 jeep commander vehicle had problems with idling and stalling, car would cutoff while driving between 35-60 miles and as well during idling. this had been an on going problem since 2010 though 2012 and then some time before. i officially for the record file this complaint understanding that many jeep owners had this same problem many times over although the chrysler corporation never did a recall regarding this problem pertaining to 2006-2008 jeep vehicles which was and is such a disservice to the consumers. *tr

The engine of the vehicle will stop at low speeds <30mph. happens in traffic and repesents a potiental safey hazard. fortunaly it has not stopped on any railroad tracks or in an intersection. has occured over 2 months. have taken to the authorized jeep dealship and they have not resolved the issue. reading the prior incidents reported to the agency, the stopping of the vehicle seems to be a chronic and persistant problem that represents a safety risk to any one that drives this make and model of vehicle. the manufacture does not even seem to know what is causing the issue. *tr
