While driving on the highway around 50-55mph the engine shuts down with no warning. there will be some slight hesitation as the dashboard lights up and all power is lost. have been able to coast over to the side of the road before coming to a complete stop where i can then turn the car off. this has happened 4 times now and can be potentially very hazardous. i am able to restart the car immediately and be back on my way with no problem. has been happening once every week or so. have taken truck to the dealership twice where they tell me they can not duplicate the problem and they do not now what is causing it. *tr
On multiple occasions our 2007 jeep commander with 5.7 liter v8 has stalled without warning. it has happened at idle, while slowing, while accelerating, and while driving at freeway speeds (60-70 mph). each time it has restarted after taking the transmission out of gear, turning the key to the off position, and restarting the engine. this is potentially very dangerous if it happens under the wrong circumstances since you, of course, unexpectedly lose power assist on both brakes and steering when the engine dies. the dealer claimed to have fixed it once, but it continued to stall. it has now been at the dealership for 3 weeks and neither they nor the chrysler engineers they have consulted claim to have any idea what is chrysler needs to make this right. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while driving at approximately 25 mph, the engine stalled. the vehicle was able to restart after three attempts. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the gear shift needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. the contact received a notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
Was driving to work going about 60 mph and motor just shuts off. had to pull off to the side of the road and turn off the key and tried to restart engine. it didn't start on the first try had to turn key off and tried again it started. it did the same thing when i was going home that morning had to do the same thing as above to get it started again. this is very dangerous i didn't have power steering or brakes luckily i wasn't on the freeway. *tr
After a schedule tune up, where two coil packs were replaced, and a pcm software update was performed our 2007 jeep commander began stalling at slow speeds. usually under 20 mph or at a stop when the engine is at or near idle speeds, the engine will obruptly stall without warning. there is no check engine light and no error code. our local jeep dealer has made several repair attempts including replacing the pcm, and shielding the engine wiring harness with aluminum foil. the problem continues. the key must be cycled to the 'off' position to restart the engine. the engine has stalled at high speeds a few times making for a very dangerous situation. *tr
This has happened to me. i am a mother, wife , daughter. the bad thing of this situation is that i had this replaced once before i had 31,505 miles on it and the ems electric transmission shift module had to be replaced . 4 yrs later mileage at 82,000 miles the same part has to be replaced. i have contacted chrysler and all they can say we are sorry there is nothing i can do for you. this part is no longer under warranty and informed that the part (68021352) was not included in a recall. this malfunctions has caused me to no longer feel safe in my car. i don't want to drive my car with my daughter in it. with out warning this has happened one to many times. this part should be recalled when i had the vehicle serviced back in 2008 i paid 100.00 now today when i had it repaired it cost 1000.00. funny isn't it that over 4 yrs this part has doubled in price. and the mechanic at chrysler says to me oh yeah i've seen this alot on this model. *tr
My wife was driving to church with my daughter and the vehicle stalled without warning for the 7th or 8th time since we bought the vehicle. there was heavy traffic at 6pm and it scared her and my 9 yr old daughter to tears. this vehicle is a real danger to my family and the lives of others. it does not start at this point. *tr

As of june 8th 2011 i bought my jeep used with approximately 42000 miles on it soon after it started having filling issues then for a while the issue ceased now about a month before date of stall listed above it started with the same filling issues except worse now causing it to not want to shift into gears as normal car would, kinda jerking in between shifts from different speeds and rpm increase and decrease. it has stalled on me twice now. the first time on the interstate at 70 mph with my 3 kids and pregnant wife in the car causing all power functions to be lost and we almost got ran over by a transfer truck trying to get to the shoulder of the road. i had it look at and the throttle body and intake cleaned of carbon deposited and now today june 12th 2012 it stalled again getting off the interstate heading to my work. still filling high and low and stalling and jerking between the natural shifting of the transmission. *tr

Slowing down at a traffic light and the vehicle stalled. again coming close to causing a major accident because of so much traffic., the vehicle would not start again for about 30 minutes cause grid lock and chaos. all i could here was a clicking sound when trying to start it. this happened multiple times after that and the last time i ended up having to steer into a steep ditch to avoid rear ending an 18 wheeler. i had my kids with me at the time. i contacted the dealer and got no help. *tr
car stalls when driving down the road. the drnp dash lights all light up at the same time and the car shuts down for a couple seconds, then it resumes. it has happened several times randomly in the past. today, it stalled 3 times on the highway on my home from work. i had to pull over and restart the car. the check engine light finally came on today. the seatbelts also have broken several times. i've replaced 2 separate seatbelt cases (the outer cover) in the past year. the middle, second row seatbelt is locked up and currently unusable. when i bought the car, the first time i put up the 3rd row seat, the seatbelt was crushed by the seat and broken. and, the back seatbelt is currently broken again (which i have only used the 3rd row seats twice since owning the car), i plan to have them repair it again when i take the car in to get the check engine light checked :( *tr

My 2007 commander runs perfect when cold but after 1 1/2 hours of being on the road it begins to run horribly. in stop and go traffic the engine bucks, sometimes dies off and has a complete lack of power. the check engine light flashes, sometimes i put it in neutral and rev the engine and then it is fine for a while and the mil light goes off. sometimes on turns the engine sputters in the intersection which has led to several close calls of being hit by the oncoming vehicle. sometimes on the freeway, climbing a slight incline the engine sputters and i lose speed and crawl to the right lane, again sometime i put it in neutral and rev the engine, slam it in drive and sometime that works. my mechanic has had the pcm tested, changed spark plugs, coils, oxygen sensors, added extra ground wires, cleared the wiring for shorts, cleaned all engine connectors including injectors plugs and road test the vehicle with the scanner connected. stated that other than picking up dtc p300b the data stream on the scanner showed no abnormalities. there has been no change in the performance of my commander. i will be calling the dealer to see what can be done under my 8year/80,000 mile drive train warranty. *tr
The engine has stalled on many occasions while driving on highway and other roads. this has occurred probably 20-30 times over the passed couple of years. occasionally it will stall for a few seconds and then kick back in, but more often i will have to let the vehicle slow down and coast to a stop in the breakdown lane if there is one. i then put on the flashers, put it in park, turn off the key, wait a few seconds and start the vehicle. this may not happen again for several months or it may happen the next day. this is extremely dangerous and scares my wife and myself half to death. this past weekend while in the passing lane this occurred on the interstate with lots of traffic and we were lucky that it did not result in an accident. researching online i have found that this is not uncommon with the jeep commander. there was a recall for this exact problem. (power train control module software) nhtsa campaign id # 08v203000, nhtsa action # ea07007. i called chrysler and was basically told that our vin# is not in the recall and they will not help. this is my wife's car but i usually do the driving. *tr
While driving my 2007 jeep commander limited edition 4x4 at various speeds car stalls without warning. all power features including steering wheel lock and check engine light comes on. forced to maneuver to shoulder if possible (dangerous) put the car in park and then re-start. same problem has occurred approximately 50 times since 2010. have sought information from dealer and independent mechanics and attempted to repair at my own expense to no avail. mechanics have been unable to replicate the problem while on road tests, which is expected since the stalling is unpredictable. the most recent occurrence was 8/5/14 - complete engine stall while driving (approximately 40mpg), steering wheel and all other power features locked in the middle of traffic. put the car in park then re-started. *tr

Early 2010 i experienced issues with the engine light, "service park assist' and all my gears lighting up at once, and not being able to accelerate in the middle of 65mph traffic!. after researching the 'symptoms' and talking to several mechanics it was discovered the esm 'was bad' and was replaced. it began at approx 55,000 miles. i went thru quite a process with chrysler over this issue. long story short, now...amazingly after another 60,000 miles (coincidence???) i need to have it replaced again as all the same things are happening? jeeps usually last a long time, and this is not an issue with maintaining my vehicle or how i drive...so i will have to potentially replace it again and again? of course chrysler tells me its not a known problem with the vehicles yet just on this site and looking for the exact complaints i find no less than 45 of the same complaint and at least another 100+ that are probably the same just worded differently. how many complaints does it take to have a company pay for and replace defective parts? does it take a certain number of fatalities?? i honestly don't understand how it just gets ignored fort years and years. on top of that, the work has to be done at a dealer due to certain tools needed, and its no less than $1000 to replace. how convenient for the company. *tr
At 50 mph the engine stalled i pulled to the side and restarted it this has been happening ever since that first time only at present it happens more regularly at least once daily sometimes twice i have replaced many parts, plugs, coils, oil sending unit, cps, ignition switch but the problem still exist, ps i am a retired auto mechanic so i do not trust or believe in auto dealerships. *tr

While driving my assistance system brake light came on i was driving 30mph and had to pull over the car would not shift or go over 30 mpr at 31,505 miles on it and the ems electric transmission shift module. has to be replaced. 4 yrs later mileage at 82,000 miles the same part has to be replaced.this time i was on interstate 94 driving 60mpr and the lights came on i pulled off interstate and when i pulled into gas station the car pulled and lunged i turned it off waited and turned back on while i was driving at 30mpr it would not go past 30mpr. i have contacted chrysler and all they can say is hold on to your receipts as this part is no longer under warranty and informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. this malfunctions has caused me to no longer feel safe in my car. i don't want to drive my car with my daughter in it. *tr
I have had my 07 jeep commander (3.6 v6) since january 2008. i have notice numerous times while driving from a complete stop, that my vehicle will lose power and start to sputter when i try to apply the gas and the car moves very slow as in less than 20mph. this has happened to me numerous times and makes me very uncomfortable driving knowing that my car can stop and leave me vulnerable to being rear-ended at intersections or common stops. i notice when this happens that my vehicle cluster displays "service park assist" and the service park assist light comes on uncontrollably and at the same time my dash/ cluster also displays ( [p][r][n][d] ) all at once as if the vehicle does not know what gear it is in. this is not acceptable for a vehicle that is supposed to provide a safe driving experience. i also find it very disappointing that numerous people all over the united states and internet/ forums all have this problem and chrysler tries to narrow it down to a select year. model. and engine. my vehicle has the same issues as the previous recall for the 2007 4.7 v8 engines, yet chrysler ignores the community of jeep commander owners with the 3.6 v6 engine that have the same problem. there is also a tsb (18-004-09 rev. a) that describes the clunking and hesitation you feel when trying to get up to speed. this is not something a customer should have to pay for. my vehicle is a 2007 with less than 40,000 miles on it and i should be able to enjoy my vehicle safely during this time period. another problem is that the vehicle does this at random so you can't just take it to the dealership and show them the problem. i'm sure they would gladly take my money and let me spend 1000+ dollars for new parts, but i have an 8yr/80,000 mile warranty purchased from chrysler and will not pay for diagnostic after diagnostic to try and replicate a problem that is clearly there... *tr

I completed a recall (14v-438 recall date: september 3, 2014 manufacturer recall number: p41) understanding that my problem would end. the ignition key recall work: when i insert the key to the ignition, it takes an effort to push and turn the ignition key. 1) i am afraid the key will break off after several attempts. 2) i have not experienced the light flickering and electric panel shutdown (engine still running, but panel seems to be disconnected from engine performance at this point) 3) my vehicle continues to accelerated on its own with foot on brakes only when stopped at a light or stopped and making turns, or stopped on "p- park" with engine idling joltin my head/body (to describe how much it is felt).
I called the dealer (walnut creek chrysler jeep) in 2007 that my engine made a stalling noise when i started the engine, and they said not to worry about it (i purchased the vehicle in may 2007, so only a few months later). i moved the car to ct, and to tx (warranty companies continue to track my address, no word of recalls, they almost stalk me, i have the mailings to prove it, which i would like to opt-out from; only use an e-mail for recalls). for months, and years, i have been complaining that my vehicle has been accelerating usually while stopped at a traffic light, it stalls while driving, the front panel lights flicker even shut off (seems running on auto pilot), the engine self-shuts off for no reason. i even asked dealers if there were any recalls, they said no. i heard that many people had their front panel vehicle lights flicker erratically, also the self-accelerating and self-stalling problems with their vehicles. the thought that my car had been hacked crossed my mind (many studies show that this can happen); i contacted my insurance company, and also the state police agency regarding a drivers license and agency documentation fine print about research. no accidents, but the above problems continue to affect my vehicle (the panel lights "some what" slowed down, but the self-acceleration, self-stalling continue, and self-shut down continue. i have driven my vehicle for approximately 35,000 miles, and purchased it new in may 2007. is this a safety issue? note: do not post or distribute my personal information, or upload to a public database. please keep my personal information private. in addition, i do not want to be pestered with more warranty offers; i have no idea how they obtained my physical address.
